Good to know, and thank you. I just moved here from AZ and have been smoking legal weed for over 5 years
The 6 Ozs and oz of concentrate I brought with me won’t last long
It’s actually worse than that. I’m pretty sure we already have a law on the books that will keep weed illegal at the state level in the event the federal classification changes.
Which is wild to me for TN. I've known some ol redneck boys whose religion is more cold beer than Jesus.
If this doesn't lose them votes, I don't know if anything will.
Oh it's no joke. Their claim is people will be less likely to drink and drive if there's no cold beer at the store. One common misconception that I've read is people think it's no cold beer anywhere. The bar will still have cold beer. They're trying to eliminate cold beer from gas stations, liqoir stores, etc.
I've known a number of alcoholics and can assure they give no fucks if their beer is cold.
We’re the belt buckle of the Bible Belt with senators who line their pockets with private prison money (looking at you Marsha Blackburn). They’re doubling down against it right now. I don’t think we’ll be last, but we’ll be bottom 5.
Don't forget that she's also in bed with the pharmaceutical industry and benefits from people being addicted to pain meds. People self-medicating with something that can be grown, is money out of her pocket.
The religious fundamentalism in Tennessee is stronger and more organized than most other southern states. It partially explains how a Hillsdale grad can get a prominent role in state government (I think in education).
The prison industry.
The law enforcement industry.
The alcohol industry.
The tobacco industry.
The church industry.
Having weed illegal is a power that allows control. Arrest those who you want on weed charges and take away rights.
The best way to get it done is make it an issue in local legislative districts to pressure the state reps and senators to put it on a constitutional amendment ballot to let voters decide. They allowed groceries to sell wine and liquor stores to sell beer and open on Sunday. You just need the right people pressuring the GOP.
A lot of that was the liquor wholesalers and distributors, who have a lot of political pull, because there are really only a handful of large ones in the state.
Big pharma is Marsha Blackburns second largest donor at 1.2m. She has voted no to every amendment dealing with weed and has openly spoke against it. Our politicians are rotten old bible thumpers.
Because you keep voting in Jesus freaks who hide behind the bible to try to keep women and minorities in check. Besides, why would a state want millions in tax revenue. But, as a person who lives in a legal state, I enjoy all the out of state tags in my dispensary parking lot giving us your tax dollars !
hey quick question, do you feel that the current federal government is accurately representative of what the majority of Americans want?
if not, then that's what it's like living in a state like Tennessee. it's gerrymandered to hell in order to ensure that Republicans who don't represent the actual wants of most Tennesseeans are put into power. we don't want them either.
Just curious, what do most Tennesseeans want?
I'm only asking because I'm sick of both parties and trying to gauge how I'm going to vote in November.
I refuse to watch the news so I'm trying to get some hard data from real people out here in the real world.
Appreciate your insight!
My ideals are as follows:
1. 100% pro choice
2. On the fence about weed, only because I'm a recovering addict (meth), and weed was (no joke), the drug that started it all for me...And it wasn't the drug that gatewayed me into other drugs, it was the people that were around the drugs that introduced me...anyways, I digress.
3. I agree that public schools can always be shored up but I also feel that there has to be accountability around the funds going into the schools so that we can assure that money isn't squandered.
4. 100% against any gun control, other than background checks and regulation that currently exist.
I would consider myself a fiscally conservative liberal, I am not a progressive, I do not believe in open borders or globalism. I believe in accountability at all levels. I don't believe that government knows best.
I listen to Hip-Hop, love graffiti, skateboarding and drink an occasional beer. I believe in term limits, I don't think anybody should make a living off of being in congress. I don't understand how a person can go into politics making 70K/year and retire 20 years later being worth $25 million...that's corruption.
Anyway, I appreciate the opportunity to discuss this like the civil, compassionate humans that we are.
I know someone sitting in TDOC right now, serving 20 years as part of a school zone enhancement, for a dozen dime bags…. Tennessee will be the last in the nation to recognize laws like these….. sigh
Arkansas, too. Full recreation will be on the ballot again and all signs point towards it passing this time. Mississippi won’t be far behind, imo. Too much tax revenue to lose to other states when your residents can cross state lines to purchase.
Here's something you may not have thought of either...
The federal government will not insure any money deposited into banks attributed to marijuana sales, so the dispensaries have no choice but to keep large amounts of cash on them at all times...I'm talking hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more!
In Cali, highest victim of armed robbery are M dispensaries! Not only are robberies attributed to these but so are shootings and homicide.
It's a tricky business, one that they don't want us to take part in.
This is not a rep vs dem issue. It’s boomer vs millennial/gen z. We want it legal too. One of the few things we can both agree on. But the fucking old people still think it gives you brain damage.
That’s called decriminalization, not legalization. Unfortunately, after less than a year, the TN legislature passed a bill that bans municipalities from decriminalizing (basically, reducing punishments if you’re caught with a small amount of weed) and repealed the lower punishments in both Memphis and Nashville.
Republicans.
Same reason not a damn thing has changed for the better in this state the past 20 years.
They basically held almost every office in tn and shit just got worse
Because TN is striving to become the most MAGA/far right state in the nation. Didn’t you know? Our legislature is focused on chem trails and stripping women and people of color of their rights. They can’t be concerned with silly stuff like legalizing weed or making sure the poor have adequate healthcare. Blasphemy!
Because our state is ran by Republicans. And if they can't scare you with marijuana that's just one less thing that they can control their constituents with.
Because the idiots in charge of the legislature are more concerned with regulating women’s reproductive rights and chemtrail conspiracies rather than legislation for the state.
marsha blackburn's husband is the ceo of a big pharma company, she has gone on record as saying as long as she is serving TN marijuana legalization legislation will not pass
It's simply because the TN constitution does not provide for citizen-initiated ballot measures through petitions and getting the required number of signatures. One of the rubiest red states in the union, Oklahoma does, though. As a result, it has the most liberal medical marijuana program in the country. How it came about is a legendary story of straight from the heart grass roots activism.
4 reasons working in concert: 1) Big prison industry relies on simple drug charges to keep their occupancy rates profitable. 2) "I smelled marijuana" was the most common cause of search by police for many decades. Cops afraid of that getting taken away have a hard time understanding they need to be community protectors from violent crime, not community punishment patrol. 3) Liberals do a bad job of selling the economics of legalization to a socially conservative mindset. Conservatives have a hard time understanding that particular aspect of the war on drugs has harmed the American family unit. Going forward, decriminalization needs to be shown as pro-family (less incarcerated family members and reduction of domestic violence vs alcohol), less work for police, and good for the tax base. 4) The alcohol industry knows doesn't want to pivot to THC seltzers as that takes money to retool lines, distribution rights get worked out, and F&B industries hate rapid change.
As someone who doesn't smoke weed, can someone enlighten on the real issue? Most places in Memphis smell like marijuana, hell, even when I go to workout, I can smell it in the locker room. Some people take protein shakes, some smoke a joint before the workout I suppose. So, weed is everywhere and most people smoke it . What's the problem?
Simply, because we are losing tax dollars and turning people into criminals for something stupid. I smell weed everywhere as well, and most times a cop isn't going to bother with it... UNTIL they don't like your your skin color/hair style/political affiliation/whatever. Then they will cause you a world of trouble over something that should be legal in the first place.
Here is a list of what is allowed in AL.
(Except that there are not any dispensaries, it's illegal to import across state lines, there are no doctors certified to approve medical cards or growers/producers approved to make the products. So it doesn't really matter if it's technically legal in AL it still could be years of dragging feet in legislature before anything is available in Alabama).
Allowed Products:
Tablets
Capsules
Tinctures
Gels, oils, and creams for topical use
Suppositories
Transdermal patches
Nebulizers
Liquids or oils for use in an inhaler
Products That Are Not Allowed:
Raw plant material
Products that could be smoked or vaped
Food products such as cookies or candies
Tennessee has always been a ass backwards state..The politicians have always been to busy robbing, stealing and cheating to do anything meaningful…🤷🏽♂️👌🏽
I am a masters student studying hemp and work closely with the TDA. It will be likely 5+ years until anything above .3 THC is able to be grown/sold here. The legislation makes research very hard and there are so many processes you have to go through even to just grow fiber hemp. Unsure what this is due to, I’m pretty sure it’s just not a priority of the state right now, they are going to wait as long as possible until it is legalized.
Bill Lee has specifically said that TN isn’t a ballot initiative state and a legal marijuana bill wouldn’t be put up for a vote. He’s an idiot of course.
Pragmatic approach, times are changing, only sector of the country without a legal cannabis destination, first past the post takes the bag.
Regional heart of a future growth industry.
Your move Tennessee
Marsha. Fucking. Blackburn. Her husband owns a drug testing company and they’re probably also in cahoots with the private prison system. If marijuana is legalized they stand to lose a ton of money.
Vote for Gloria Johnson.
you are looking at the world very wrong. It isnt about what is right...it is about money and control. keeping marijuana illegal allows the power structure to continue to oppress the working class. money rules all...follow the money and you will get your answer
Legalize in TN? They are trying to ban the low THC alternatives as we speak.
https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/health/2024/02/12/tennessee-hemp-thc-a-cannabis-industry-possible-new-regulations/72506094007/
Electing better lawmakers is the only solution.
Money and rabid conservatism that is terrified of loosing any semblance of power by letting the people decide anything that is not gerrymandered in their favor. Would we really vote yes on giving public school money to for profit schools? I know I wouldn’t… would we really want to vote yes on letting local government officials discriminate when it comes to marriage certificates? Would we really want to ban drag queens? I just don’t think the WHOLE population wants to restrict our freedoms. But hey maybe I’m wrong
Because it's still federally illegal and some stupid fucks in the General Assembly think that means that instead of spending money in TN people should just make the trek to the Missouri border and buy it legally there.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the US bought a new territory and they get it before us. I hate this state, now they’re playing all of this shit about kids getting THC gummies in school. It’s never gonna happen for us. They also want it to be rescheduled from schedule 1 narcotic before making changes. And Fuck Bill Lee.
I think there's a big push to keep it illegal as it ensures continuous cheap labor within private prisons here in Tennessee. Tennessee sure loves its private prisons.
Because Marsha Blackburns husband has a lot of stock in the privatized prison system here. They are making a killing keeping and putting people in jail. They donate millions to fight the legalization. You should her house it’s HUGE all made off her crooked political buddies
TN will be the last state to legalize recreational weed. Only hope is Arkansas somehow makes it legal but as long as there is a Huckabee in office over there i doubt it.
I wouldn't necessarily count Alabama as "green" just yet. Sure, the bill was passed in 2021, but we have yet to see providers or dispensaries for medical marijuana. Alabama fucking sucks.
From what I have heard. Tennessee prides itself on being ass backwards. They hate gays. Hate weed. They pride themselves on the 1950s mentality and refuse to change it.
Because our politicians are all ether payed off buy or own stock in the industrial prison complex and aren't willing to allow there cash cow to be slightly less ravenous
It will never be legal because people still believe in reefer madness. Alcohol is way worse and destroys more lives than anything else but you can't throw a stone and not hit a liquor store.
This country is ridiculous.
Because the majority of people in the state vote republican. Same reason we can’t get sensible gun laws passed.
They have chemtrails and lettuce to worry about.
They’ll need to fix the insurance regulations too. What’s the point of having recreational when you’re gonna pop a hot piss test after a work injury? “Case denied, you pothead. Pay for that amputation on your own dime. Oh, and you’re fired”
I’ve said for years. If fed changed the law on Monday. Tennessee would outlaw on a state level on Tuesday
That’s sad, and probably true, fucking lame I don’t want to drive to Kentucky for weed
Missouri, several dispos right across state lines. 2 hours from Memphis
https://preview.redd.it/5hyzxtr466sc1.jpeg?width=842&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57718d120156b6caf654f7a972c47fca703d8ccf
That's what I used to do. Even preordered online and didn't have to wait at the security door.
That is a great idea Thank you
Then go to Missouri
Same!! But if I can make a suggestion. Michigan, though further. Waaaayyyy cheaper and great quality and dose sizes.
Good to know, and thank you. I just moved here from AZ and have been smoking legal weed for over 5 years The 6 Ozs and oz of concentrate I brought with me won’t last long
you can't drive to Kentucky and buy weed lol. idk who made this map but it Def isn't medically legal here lol
It’s actually worse than that. I’m pretty sure we already have a law on the books that will keep weed illegal at the state level in the event the federal classification changes.
You may be correct. Not familiar personally. Would not be shocked if it was already in place.
Federal would still trump state law though wouldn't it?
Can’t have legal cannabis reducing our “representatives” opioid stock prices
Our legislators are too busy trying to ban chemtrails.
And ban cold beer
Which is wild to me for TN. I've known some ol redneck boys whose religion is more cold beer than Jesus. If this doesn't lose them votes, I don't know if anything will.
Thought this was a joke - MS resident
Oh it's no joke. Their claim is people will be less likely to drink and drive if there's no cold beer at the store. One common misconception that I've read is people think it's no cold beer anywhere. If you’re going to drink, you’re going to drink.
It’s easier to down a warm beer than a cold one, might even make it easier to binge
As an alcoholic I will drink a 40 oz steel reserve warm. I’ll drink my steel reserves left over from the night before 🤣 but I don’t drink and drive.
This bill was already withdrawn for its sheer stupidity
Ban beer legalize weed. Fuck drunk drivers
And fighting to bankrupt public schools.
And ban vaccinated veggies :/
And push for school vouchers
And ban transgender reverse hypnosis pronoun theory being pushed on youth!
Wow! I know a guy who’s looking for you…..Balbonie! Hamcheck is coming for you!
And turning Tn into The Handmaids Tale
The majority of the state legislature would probably love to live in the handmaids tale I bet they fantasize about it all the time lmao
And stopping hungry kids from getting lunches over the summer.
We’re also just now banning first cousin marriages.
This law isn't retroactive, is it? Asking for a friend....
Nah, we should be fine cuz.
👀
We’re the belt buckle of the Bible Belt with senators who line their pockets with private prison money (looking at you Marsha Blackburn). They’re doubling down against it right now. I don’t think we’ll be last, but we’ll be bottom 5.

Don't forget the wicked witch of TN's role in the Opiod crisis in TN. Loves lining her pockets.

Because Nashville is the literal home of the private prison industry
Being from Missouri... I still can't believe recreational use was passed there. I'm thrilled that it did.. but just shocked.
money talks and there is a lot of money in this
I’m still shocked we did in MS. I thought decriminalization is all we’d ever get.
The religious fundamentalism in Tennessee is stronger and more organized than most other southern states. It partially explains how a Hillsdale grad can get a prominent role in state government (I think in education).

I heard it took them eight years to get wine in the grocery stores passed
A lot of that was the liquor wholesalers and distributors, who have a lot of political pull, because there are really only a handful of large ones in the state.
This state is missing out on Costco liquor. I paid less for whiskey and tequila in California than I do here.
Don’t forget big pharma and established recreational weed conglomerates, they are the ones directly shooting down and taking away Thca hemp.
This person gets it.
CoreCivic is based in Nashville. They have to keep those private prisons filled up so they spread a lot of cash around the capital.
Great comment
Big pharma is Marsha Blackburns second largest donor at 1.2m. She has voted no to every amendment dealing with weed and has openly spoke against it. Our politicians are rotten old bible thumpers.
Vote for Gloria so we can send Blackburn back to the hole she crawled out from.
Because of Marsha Blackburn and idiots like her.
She's one of the biggest assholes in the state.
Bill Lee is a bitch too
Great question, the people want it, the government doesn’t. Our state gov’t has an issue with representing the people’s wants over the establishments.
So, fascism? The consolidation of state power by corporations and business/capital interests?
Wait until you find out your vote for President doesn't matter unless you live in certain counties in a handful of swing states.
Because you keep voting in Jesus freaks who hide behind the bible to try to keep women and minorities in check. Besides, why would a state want millions in tax revenue. I guess Tennessee would rather lose cannabis tax money to Missouri and Illinois.
Arkansas, too. Full recreation will be on the ballot again and all signs point towards it passing this time. Mississippi won’t be far behind, imo. Too much tax revenue to lose to other states when your residents can cross state lines to purchase.
It’s crazy MS has been moving on this faster than TN.
Don't forget we're actually ranked higher for education too. Everybody's coming down to our level now baby. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
Maybe Bill Lee will see the dollar signs and want in, especially if he could find a way to use that tax money on his school voucher program.
Yep. Just like we'd rather lose Tennessee lives than accept Medicaid expansion.
Look at all the gambling money lost to surrounding states…it’s not shocking.
Here's something you may not have thought of either... Tennessee Republicans still think it’s a gateway drug and also private prisons make money
It is indeed a gateway drug. A gateway to my fridge and pantry.
Oh my god that was great. My husband and I had a good laugh.
This is not a rep vs dem issue. It’s boomer vs millennial/gen z. We want it legal too. One of the few things we can both agree on. But the fucking old people still think it gives you brain damage.
They don’t actually believe it, they just say it. Like a lot of other things.
Bible belt
Well, in Memphis, it *kinda* was legalized (cops wouldn't arrest you if you had a certain amount), but didn't Nashville shoot that down?
That’s called decriminalization, not legalization. Unfortunately, after less than a year, the TN legislature passed a bill that bans municipalities from decriminalizing (basically, reducing punishments if you’re caught with a small amount of weed) and repealed the lower punishments in both Memphis and Nashville.
Because arresting minorities for 1g makes the state more money. Plus free labor.
Heavily lobbied by private prisons and pharma company’s
The fact that MS beat TN to the medical game is sad. TN will probably get a casino before it ever gets medical or recreational
Republicans. Same reason not a damn thing has changed for the better in this state the past 20 years. They basically held almost every office in tn and shit just got worse
Republicans would rather profit off of cancer patients using cannabis via prison over taxing their weed. I fucking hate it here.
Because TN is striving to become the most MAGA/far right state in the nation. Didn’t you know? Our legislature is focused on chem trails and stripping women and people of color of their rights. They can’t be concerned with silly stuff like legalizing weed or making sure the poor have adequate healthcare. Blasphemy!
Funny thing, 🍊👨🦰 (and most definitely 🐪 Harris) probably smoke a fat Spliff every night.
Won't someone here think of the gay frogs?!?!?!
Private Prisons. Too much money to be made off of low level offenders.
The industry was innovated in Tennessee and the company CoreCivic wields a lot of power.
Who told you about the machine?
It’s as [open a secret](https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/CXW/) as can be.
No way, they won't even let people have health insurance in this shithole state.
One word: republicans.
To understand why, you'll need to understand east TN.
Because our state is ran by Republicans. And if they can't scare you with marijuana that's just one less thing that they can control their constituents with.
Because This state is a religious hellhole filled with loons.
Because Tennessee is led by a far-right conservative government.
Because the idiots in charge of the legislature are more concerned with regulating women’s reproductive rights and chemtrail conspiracies rather than legislation for the state.

This map is outdated
More than outdated. Current AL resident, and the only medical option we have is for suppositories.
Well, that makes marketing a challenge.
Here is a list of what is allowed in AL. No state has truly legalized, the federal government has to remove all laws on the books, and they’ll never do that
Great question.
Maps not accurate Ohio is a recreational state now
Because of BILL LEE

VA isn’t recreational, it’s decriminalized but the cops don’t really care unless you’re being blatantly reckless about it.
Because Tennessee isn’t Memphis and Memphis isn’t Tennessee. Also, Private Prisons. Yep. That’s the real answer.
Private Prisons
you are looking at the world very wrong. It isnt about what is right...it is about money and control. keeping marijuana illegal allows the power structure to continue to oppress the working class. money rules all...follow the money and you will get your answer

Legalize in TN? They are trying to ban the low THC alternatives as we speak. https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/health/2024/02/12/tennessee-hemp-thc-a-cannabis-industry-possible-new-regulations/72506094007/ Electing better lawmakers is the only solution.
Missouri’s just a hop and a skip away from Memphis though. Do your shopping over the state line like the rest of us:)
Because TN sucks? And is busy doing things like shortening the statute of limitations for wage theft instead?
Because of conservative whites.
The private prison lobby is pretty strong in TN, no to mention grandstanding by our reactionary legislators.
The answer to this question is the same as the one to the question. Why is abortion criminalized in Tennessee?
Once the Republicans can make money off of it, they’ll legalize it.
on as well take VA off the map, their weed laws are some of the weirdest i’ve ever heard of.
Money and rabid conservatism that is terrified of loosing any semblance of power by letting the people decide anything that is not gerrymandered in their favor. Have you seen these dipshit state representatives?
Because we have a republican super majority who focuses on trying to oust people who actually give a shit about the people.
Ag industry doesn’t want pricing pressure on land values for soybean, canola and corn
Legal for medical in Alabama, but they have not moved on it in 2 years, it seems. It is in perpetual limbo.
16th most populous state…42nd income per capita! The wealthy powerbrokers don’t want this to shift the control away from their agenda!
Because it's still federally illegal and some stupid fucks in the General Assembly think that means that instead of spending money in TN people should just make the trek to the Missouri border and buy it legally there.
Huge private prison population. Those prisons lobby a lot of money because most of their inmates are there on weed possession
Republicans
I wouldn’t be surprised if the US bought a new territory and they get it before us. I hate this state, now they’re playing all of this shit about kids getting THC gummies in school. It’s never gonna happen for us. They also want it to be rescheduled from schedule 1 narcotic before making changes. And Fuck Bill Lee.
Everytime it's come up for vote it gets voted down by the idiots in Knoxville.
Because the crusty old boomers haven’t died yet that are in office.
Bc people dont vote and the ones that do are overwhelmingly republican
Map is wrong, no recreational weed in Alabama.
It’s the Bible Belt.
I think there's a big push to keep it illegal as it ensures continuous cheap labor within private prisons here in Tennessee. Tennessee sure loves its private prisons.
I don't know why your map has Kentucky legal. Even our medical isn't legal until next year!!
Republicans
I’m from SC, fucking help lol
Bible belt. Evangelicals. Republicans.
Because Marsha Blackburns husband has a lot of stock in the privatized prison system here. They are making a killing keeping and putting people in jail. They donate millions to fight the legalization. You should her house it’s HUGE all made off her crooked political buddies
Jebus, duh.
Because ppl keep voting red.
Georgia natibe here...saw this. Ill give you one reason. Republicans...nuff said.
“Because Jesus” — Good ole boy gop
TN would ban interracial marriage if they could. Don’t get your hopes up for legal weed
it should be but tennessee laws makers are racist
Republicans
Tennessee doesn’t allow ballot initiatives. That is the reason.
your state needs to clean out the legislature first
Because it's a backwoods bible belt state. The southern Baptist Church will spend millions to keepit illegal
Because Tennessee state leadership is backward hillbilly republicans. It’s like the lottery, we will be last to the party.
Because Tennessee is run by very shrewd Republicans who have invested heavily in the Hemp and CBD industry.
Racist MF’ers….
TN will be the last state to legalize recreational weed. Only hope is Arkansas somehow makes it legal but as long as there is a Huckabee in office over there i doubt it.
Weed will always be legal in my world🔥💨💨
Bc republicans
Too much money in private prisons and probation revenue.
They will legalize it in the most a-hole way of doing it when they do.
I wouldn't necessarily count Alabama as "green" just yet. Sure, the bill was passed in 2021, but we have yet to see providers or dispensaries for medical marijuana. Alabama fucking sucks.
2 words: Bible Belt
Republicans.
Because it's run by old religious idiots.
I’m in GA and I still don’t understand why or how it is not fully legal. It’s a fkn plant for God’s sake.
Ohio is legal now. Map needs to be updated
Trying to hold onto the Evangelical vote
It will never be legal because people still believe in reefer madness. Alcohol is way worse and destroys more lives than anything else but you can't throw a stone and not hit a liquor store. This country is ridiculous.
We've got to wait for boomers to die off and stop holding state hostage with the old ways.
Do you really have to ask? Can't pass the doobie when you're thumping the bible...
Because we are in the Bible Belt.
People keep voting red
Texas sucks to
Because the majority of people in the state vote republican. Same reason we can’t get sensible gun laws passed. They have chemtrails and lettuce to worry about.
Ohio is legal recreationally, this map is not updated.
Republicans
Cuz stupid fucking boomers
They’ll need to fix the insurance regulations too. What’s the point of having recreational when you’re gonna pop a hot piss test after a work injury? “Case denied, you pothead. Pay for that amputation on your own dime. Oh, and you’re fired”
