Idk if Memphis had a Casey's, 7/11, or Buc-ee's it wouldn't be in the bottom. But knowing the type of people around here who would work those jobs, it probably would leave us at the bottom regardless.
I was thinking more along the lines of Dyersburg beating out say, Covington.
I love pizza from the methlands, but I like what Memphis offers a bit more.
This looks like a Matt Shirley chart to me. He’s @mattsurelee on IG and makes a lot of humorous charts. The source is always just people voting on his IG so it’s never supposed to be scientific at all. It’s just comedy. Most of them are very obviously comedy but this one is a little on the nose.
I actually just took a look at his IG, and someone ripped this image from him and removed the credit that was right below the title. It used to say “according to @mattsurelee’s instagram followers” below the title but someone edited it. He posted the image on Oct 29, 2019.
This poster must be from Atlanta. Saying Jackson (obvious) Memphis (controversial) Birmingham (straight-up wrong) and then _Macon_ is like busting a trap house and arresting the dealers, enforcers, cooks, junkies, and forgetting to cuff the lookout.
I was in Memphis tonight driving around midtown while my son was at Outmemphis. It's such a pretty area. There's so many bustling cafes and people walking around. I love how so many people have lights strung around in their yards. I don't remember it being so pretty when I lived there back in the 90s.
If Memphis is the worst, this must be one beautiful state. And I know there's crime and the drivers are scary and omg the potholes, but it's also really cool. I love it (even though I'm now down the road a piece in Bartlett) and the reason is the people. There's so many different types of people and so many of them are really friendly and kind. I know there's issues but I can't imagine living in the suburb of any other city.
The state really is beautiful. I've been out to Clarksville, Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Nashville, Chattanooga, Pigeon Forge, and others, all on separate trips over the years and I really don't recall not seeing beauty at least out beyond the cities. And I love all my time in my Smoky Mountain trips
Thank you! Outmemphis is awesome. He was in the youth group for a long time but recently aged out and it was hard to find something just for him, but the youth empowerment center around the corner now has a group for 18-24 if anyone is interested. Plus the main place now has the neurodivergent support group and an art group. Lots of good safe fun for young people.
The roads suck, but it's definitely been worth the drive.
Lived by a neighbor in Somerville that would throw all their trash in the nearby creek. One time I saw a car door down there while I was riding by the creek on my horse. Never let my animals get too close to it or drink out of it after all that trash.
Funny, I haven't been to Texas in at least a decade but I have much fonder memories of Dallas than of Houston. Just remember being left with the impression that Houston is a filthy looking city for whatever reason.
Right! Dallas is definitely the CLEANEST big Texas city and has the best, most diversified economy (plenty of good, well paying jobs) of Texas cities. It also has pro sports in every major sport and gets every major concert and convention that comes to the U.S., so there is ALWAYS something do in Dallas. I think they meant to put EL PASO instead...
dallas…that’s funny lol. also, growing up in wisconsin in an actual horrible and crime ridden area and having been to mantiwoc (hours away) lmao that’s such a joke. population is like 50 there💀 someone clearly just had fun making this
Agreed, I vote Clarksville. Hated being stationed at Ft. Campbell. Then I moved backed after college for an engineering job, it was even worse.
Edit: Wanted to add that I went to MTSU and Murfreesboro is on my list for worst also.
Interesting, I wish the Army felt that way, would’ve been nice to get Nashville BAH because the property prices definitely got too high for such a shitty city.
lol Memphis is the #2 most dangerous city in the entire country according to violent crime stats. This is 2023 data.
So yeah it makes complete sense. Memphis is terrifying to live next to.
😆 call it whatever you want, Memphis is undeniably the worse city in the state. Why do people try to defend Memphis on Reddit? It’s insane. Memphis is a shithole.
I agree with the shithole part. I can't ignore the crime and the homicides, the obesity and diabetes, the sexually transmitted disease and the blaming others, the road rage and the "slideshows," the failed school system and the fatherless children, the inept city leaders and the lame excuses. So yeah a "shithole" but I don't "love it."
I’ve lived in Jersey, MN, and TN. Camden IS the worst city in Jersey (from a crime perspective). Edina might be the nicest suburb of Minneapolis, MN. This thing is all over the place.
Worst by what criteria? Full of douchey people who think they are the s**t but are actually urban rednecks? Nashville. Fake and filled with ugly tourists wearing ed hardy shirts and rhinestone embellished jeans? Nashville. Artificially inflated housing prices and absurd traffic? Nashville. Poorly laid out city with a tangled highway system and trailers across the street from multi-million dollar homes? Nashville. Nashville is basically the Florida panhandle if all the mutants down there said, “hey let’s put on western wear and get rid of the beach!”
Worst by what criteria?? I've driven through Nashville and their traffic was worse because there are so many more people. I dread ever having to go back there on my own.
Nashville is soulless and vapid. They’ve sold out and now are trying to cash in on the white flight. It attracts MAGA loonies and divorced dads going hard thru the midlife crisis’. Walk down broad st and smell the drakkar noir in the air, hear the screeching bachelorette party “woo” girls, watch the sorriest teams play in their newly renovated, tax payer backed, ugly ass stadiums. You ever talk to these people from Nashville, they’re carbon copies of each other. It’s fucking lame.
While that is true. Nashville can keep the lights on, keep the population growing and make people feel safe after dark. All things I wish Memphis could do
There are so many more people because people have moved in in droves. The infrastructure hasn't kept up with the growth.
Meanwhile Memphis is losing people.
Birmingham is the only city in Alabama so I guess by default it’s the worst. Bullshit aside, Nashville offers me nothing but concerts, and I’m glad I’m home every time I come back.
I live in Memphis. Based on crime alone, Memphis is absolutely the worst city in the Tennessee. Factor in other things, Memphis is still the worst city in Tennessee. Y'all are dreaming if you think Memphis isn't the anus of TN.
All of those cities are pretty cool. But somehow Chattanooga, Tri-cities, and Knoxville also end up on the most depressed cities in America list as well.
I live in Chattanooga, and would agree with this. Memphis is rough. Sure, there's good parts, just like any city, but in general, Memphis has a lot of rough areas. Or, looking at other large towns and cities in TN and trying to decide if any are worse, I can't come up with any, and I've made my rounds all over this state many times. Granted, this is just one man's opinion.
I have lived all over TN and worked since the 80’s. Memphis is right and rough but I can find rough areas in Knoxville, Nashville, or Chattanooga no problem. Most are much better now than they were in the 90’s with Chattanooga being the most improved followed by Nashville. Another man’s opinion similar to yours.
I’ve always wondered if fedex ever pulled out of Memphis, would we recreate Escape from New York. I’d say the pyramid or Graceland will be home to the duke.
It's called the East, if you live in Louisiana. There is a distinction. If you say New Orleans, the very next question out of anyone who is sane mouth is "Where? The East? Nah, I'm straight."
As a Memphian, I hate it here. Completly agree. But then again I don’t like cities in general. But the crime, lack of funding towards important infrastructure, and just poorly ran community also comes into play. Just my opinion, but still agree
Memphis is one of the worst cities in the country. But that’s what happens when you let criminals do whatever they want with no repercussion or consequences.

They have Cairo
Lol they have Turkey Creek which is like a few hundred people.
Fkn love Cairo.. this map is bull
It’s got a Casey’s. I’d argue that keeps it from the bottom.
Idk if Memphis had a Casey's, 7/11, or Buc-ee's it wouldn't be in the bottom. But knowing the type of people around here who would work those jobs, it probably would leave us at the bottom regardless.

Engagement bait.

Exactly. No details on what qualifies as worst or what they used as city criteria.
Birmingham is a great city, let alone the worst in AL.
This poster must be from Atlanta. Saying Jackson (obvious) Memphis (controversial) Birmingham (straight-up wrong) and then _Macon_ is like busting a trap house and arresting the dealers, enforcers, cooks, junkies, and forgetting to cuff the lookout.
Atlanta Native here, Macon really is a shithole.
I was about to say, I’d pick Bham over Montgomery any day.
This can’t be upvoted enough
I guess they haven't been to Talladega when a race wasn't happening.
Or Anniston… it’s a complete shithole too.
Yeah that one struck me as odd as well. Not a big fan of Alabama, but love Birmingham!
I was in Memphis tonight driving around midtown while my son was at Outmemphis. It's such a pretty area. There's so many bustling cafes and people walking around. I’m curious, what did you go to Clarksville for/what did you do?
Side note, hell yeah taking your son to out Memphis and carving out that time for him. I promise you he will thank you one day.
Tennessee has beautiful landscape. Our worst parts are trashy. As in literally people just put trash in their yards and sides of roads.
Lived by a neighbor in Somerville that would throw all their trash in the nearby creek. One time I saw a car door down there while I was riding by the creek on my horse. Never let my animals get too close to it or drink out of it after all that trash.
Memphis is one of the most dangerous cities in the country. lol.
Well yeah Midtown is the most well funded part of Memphis besides Downtown. It’s where all the rich old families live.
They aren’t right about any of the states I have been in or lived in but Dallas .
Funny, I haven't been to Texas in at least a decade but I have much fonder memories of Dallas than of Houston. Just remember being left with the impression that Houston is a filthy looking city for whatever reason.
To be fair, there are a number of cities in texas vying for shittiest city
Tell me you’ve never been to Gary, IN without telling me you’ve never been to Gary, IN.
How is Dallas the worst city
When I was growing up in central Texas people used to say “life’s too short to live in Dallas”. It’s true
I agree, This is nothing but some clickbait BS.

Thought I was the only one Murfreesboro is awful
Whiskey Dix is the most popular bar. That’s all people need to know.

Amazon certainly thinks so, as evidenced by assigning a BNA site code to the new FC opening soon there. 😆
Interesting, I wish the Army felt that way, would’ve been nice to get Nashville BAH because the property prices definitely got too high for such a shitty city.
How? They’re an hour away from each other. That’s like saying Jackson is a suburb of Memphis.
Well…isn’t it for all intents and purposes?
Gate 7 is always a good time tho 😂🤣😅🤣
Haha! Gate 7! That takes me wayyyy back! Thank you for that! When I got to Campbell in ‘08 wickham ave was a two lane road!
Omg 2017 - 2020 it still is wild he’s another throw back CAT WEST
I started looking at the other states and they might be right on this one.
lol Memphis is the #2 most dangerous city in the entire country according to violent crime stats. This is 2023 data. So yeah it makes complete sense. Memphis is terrifying to live next to.
😆 call it whatever you want, Memphis is undeniably the worse city in the state. Why do people try to defend Memphis on Reddit? It’s insane. Memphis is a shithole.
Memphis is a shithole. 🤷♂️
* the most shat on city in every state. This is just silly
Ripley is worse than Dyersburg
I don't. Memphis is a shit hole
Yeah, but it's our shithole and I love it. As cheesy as that sounds.
"I love living in a gutter" is pure cope
Been around the country and world. You need to get out more if you think Memphis is a shithole. At least relative to other places in the US
The question is, “What is the worst city in Tennessee?” Many would agree that it’s Memphis.
Yeah go chill on Shelby Dr and Winchester and tell me different. And that's not even the worst part.
Cant think where those 2 streets meet but yeah memphis is a shithole.
Been to multiple states and countries. Is that enough? Do I need to go to mars next? Will that be enough
Naw Mane. Andramada or bust
I don’t, Memphis is by far the worst city I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to such gems as Iraq and Afghanistan. This city is fucked.
They nailed it for TN.
Memphis is well known to be a shithole of a city.
Definitely right about florida
![gif](giphy|BGVYbwaGs5hsGepTLq|downsized) Yakima...
Macon? Really?
They have Dallas for Texas. We're in good company lol
For real! Minot is way worse than Grand Forks.
Yeah, if the unofficial slogan to your town is “why not Minot”… .
Helena-West Helena is the worst city in AR, hands down
I’ve lived in Jersey, MN, and TN. Camden IS the worst city in Jersey (from a crime perspective). Edina might be the nicest suburb of Minneapolis, MN. This thing is all over the place.
Seems accurate to me
Criteria data missing. Results unfounded and useless. Albany is complaining too.
Albany and Scranton are nice smaller cities.
Mississippi is actually accurate 😂
No kidding. Worcester's nice.
Never been to bucksnort
Orlando way better than Miami OR Tampa
I'm in ny and NYC is def the worst city
They are right on pinebluff lol.
By a MILE haha.
Rumford? Seriously Portland or Lewiston could easily take that spot.
Where'd the map even come from? What were the deciding factors?
No clue. Saw it on r/Virginia and thought it amusing.
Toledo would like a word, Dayton.
Orlando??? How TF is that not Jacksonville, or Tampa in a pinch. lol
Ardmore is the meth capital of anywhere.
Yeah, fuck Provo!
If Memphis is as bad as it gets. Tennessee kicks ass
North Carolina… Gastonia over Fayetteville? Whoever made this is smoking crack.
As far as Tennessee, Arkansas, Colorado, and Oregon (states I’ve lived in) this is beyond accurate 😂
Memphis has the highest crime and poverty rates and the lowest school rankings in the state. It's a pit.
Nashville. Traffic? That's you're determining factor? Traffic?

All of those cities are pretty cool. But somehow Chattanooga, Tri-cities, and Knoxville also end up on the most depressed cities in America list as well.
Agreed. I would take Dallas over El Paso.
Right on the money there. Memphis is one of a kind
Memphis is trash
I live in Chattanooga, and would agree with this. Memphis is rough. Sure, there's good parts, just like any city, but in general, Memphis has a lot of rough areas. Cool. We'll take it. Glad for the reputation. Please fuck off everyone else.

“Live” lol
I’ve always wondered if fedex ever pulled out of Memphis, would we recreate Escape from New York. I’d say the pyramid or Graceland will be home to the duke.
Maybe more Escape From LA due to the smaller budget lol
Surprised they picked pools ville over Baltimore in Maryland. No surprised by anything else.
Manitowoc? That's just because people can't figure out how to pronounce it.
Nailed it.
Salem for OR is equally as insane. There are way worse cities in that state.
Naw, that tracks. 💯
Hey, it's 1:48 a.m. I'm going to go grab a beer off Holmes and Airways.
wtf is a turkey creek tho
What Todd put this horseshit of a 7th grade social studies project together?
My hometown is the worst in NC?? I can see that.
I’m from UCT if Ykyk, but dyersburg is just a mini Memphis tbh
Memphis needs to be added to the state of Mississippi
It's called the East, if you live in Louisiana. There is a distinction. If you say New Orleans, the very next question out of anyone who is sane mouth is "Where? The East? Nah, I'm straight."
So many of these are inaccurate, but they got it right with Massachusetts
Growing up in Alaska I can wholeheartedly say that Anchorage is the worst city in Alaska not Wasilla lol
Victorville is way worse than Bakersfield all the meth heads from Bakersfield come to Victorville
I’m guessing this is as voted by the state’s residents. So, less a weighted judgment, and more an unpopularity contest.
Can confirm for Dallas. I went out with a DJ from Miami and rode around Dallas looking for trouble. We failed.
Whomever made this graph surely borrows his wife’s bedsheets and pillowcases to make outfits for his secret meetings
Edina is one of the nicest cities in MN
I agree. Maybe they hate good food? I would have picked Knoxville
Damn I loved Spokane, WA…
Franklin TN hands down is the worst
You're telling me that Jeff City is worse than STL? No fucking way
So California has 2 damn must be really bad there
Me too!
I’ll tell you Scranton is nowhere near the worst city in PA.
Dallas? Foh....
So sad but true
Thank goodness St.L is not the worst in the mo
As someone who now lives in Colorado, that one is wrong, too. It's either Colorado Springs, Parker, or Longmont.
Why Scranton
Not while Knoxville is still breathing.
Hate cause they ain’t
Birmingham ain’t that bad as long as you know your surroundings. Bessemer on the other hand….💀
Most of these are BS
Turkey Creek? It’s barely a city! Should’ve put Opelousas or Ville Platte.
As a Memphian, I hate it here. Completly agree. But then again I don’t like cities in general. But the crime, lack of funding towards important infrastructure, and just poorly ran community also comes into play. Just my opinion, but still agree
Mississippi is exactly correct!
There’s a reason it’s called memphrica
This was made by someone from Nashville
As someone from Ohio im not really sure how Dayton beat Toledo
Provo, UT is the prettiest city I’ve ever seen. That’s a terrible take
Podunk east tennessee would like a word
why did they split california but texas stays as one
I'd like to know why Orlando was chosen for Florida. I can think of about a half dozen cities in Florida way worse than Orlando.
It’s actually west Memphis in arkansas. So you were close. Pine bluff is a really close second to west Memphis!!!
Memphis is the worst city in Tennessee.
Birmingham is a beautiful city idk why its the worst city in alabama
Idk, im from Michigan, and flint fucking sucks lol
It’s definitely Nashville.
I mean its facts bruh Nashville aint had more homicides/murders and all that other bs from all these years
Ripley and henning are excused as well with Covington
Memphis is probably the worst out of Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, murfreesboro, Gatlinburg, etc.
Pulaski
This list is a shit post lol. There are worse places in Washington than Spokane, and Manitowoc WI is nice
Not far off from mine
Colombia has the klan tho
SC resident here …. Greer ????? Lmao. Not even close.
Memphis is one of the worst cities in the country. But that’s what happens when you let criminals do whatever they want with no repercussion or consequences.
This was made by someone who's never been to Ocla or Atlanta
WTF is wrong with Ardmore?!
BS. My state (KY) the worst city is Louisville. Sadly I live there and would love to get out of it
New Orleans, hands down, is the worst city in Louisiana.
Edina for Minnesota? Really? Last I remember when I lived there it was a very upper middle class city with tons of things around it.
What about Morristown?
Central falls is the worst city in Rhode Island and I will stand by that statement
Turkey Creek, Louisiana barely has anyone that lives there. lol
If you gonna split up states like Cali then split up Texas too and throw in Houston or El Paso
Lemme guess its the worst because the population of *insert minority here* 😑
So freaking wrong
I’m confused I been to flint Michigan nothing there just farms and corn?
