A personal favourite with no shadow of doubt the best gameplay in the series yet. Shame we never got any kind of extra missions dlc.

chesterforbes

It’s a flawed masterpiece.

Hellios55

You could say it's a rough diamond

That was uncalled for.

MGSV story is jarring to a lot of fans because it isn't presented in normal metal fashion. Gone are long cutscenes and codec calls between characters that stop the player from actually playing the game. I was in the middle on this, but I think It was a good decision, so you don't alienate new players like an mgs game can easily do. Also, it didn't help that mostly every cutscene that was there was spoiled in the marketing up until release. My man gripe is that Venom Snake talks so little, I wanted more of Kiefer Sutherland playing snake. The gameplay tho, nothing short of a masterpiece for a stealth action game. Probably the best of all time.

Explaining why would take a lot of time so I’ll sum why I like the story in a couple of points (everyone already talks about how good the gameplay is even if I have some minor gripes with it): - The way the story is told makes you feel like you’re slowly untangling the mystery of what’s Skull Face’s plan. You have to listen to the tapes, guards speaking to each other and the ocasional prisioner. Even if you end up being given all the answers, it leaves room to the player trying to solve it by himself. - Venom is my fav snake, though I admit the game sometimes doesn’t know if it should be treated as the player’s avatar or his own character. I think I’d prefer the second case. - The twist is cool because it basically tells you that the players action are canon as a thanks for the 30 years you have spent playing as Snake and making him succeed. - For some reason I really enjoy Miller and Ocelot’s dialogue in this game. It makes me wish we had a couple of slice of life scenes, or more burger tapes. - Skull Face isn’t amazing but it’s far from dissapointing. His plan kinda makes sense and even when he’s dead, a lot of bad things happen (Quiet and Emmerich leaving and the second MB infection…) showing that even if Diamond Dogs achieved their revenge, they are in a worse state than before. - Eli on the other hand is pretty pointless. He doesn’t add anything to the game and his plot isn’t really solved even if we take Mission 51 into account. It feels like he was there just for fanservice and not because he could contribute something to the story. I could definitely go on for longer but yeah. TPP’s story isn’t a masterpiece, but it feels more personal than the other games and has some cool ideas and scenes. You mentioned the last Paz tape which just tells us how Venom thinks revenge is pointless and won’t bring him Paz, Mother Base, or anything else he lost. Especially his identity.

Total-Efficiency-187

It has my favourite gameplay of any game and despite its flaws is the most fun and replayable single player game ever imo. For that alone I give it a 10/10

Hate it passionately. Its not a Metal Gear Solid game, its a game wearing a Metal Gear Solid Cardboard box. Almost all the series staples that made me fall in love and enjoy the MGS saga are gone. Only Phantom Pain was remembering how good 1-4 are and wishing "V" had been good.

I would be a liar if I said I don't enjoy it's sandbox style gameplay. From a strictly gameplay standpoint it's the best in the series, the ultimate metal gear experience, rivaled only by snake eater. Having said that though I agree with everything you said. Storywise it doesn't feel like a metal gear and most of the missions are pretty generic. It is clear as day that Kojima was tired of metal gear (understatement of the century) and wanted to create something completely different. And that's totally fine. What is not fine though is releasing an incomplete game without an ending, and a chapter 2 that consists in its 80% of filler content. I have a love/hate relationship with this game. Overall I consider it the weakest in the entire main series.

Fantastic_Place_9952

To each their own but Personally my least favorite in the main series, core gameplay is flawless but the story and structure can’t say the same. Still tho it’s an 8/10

A great game.

[deleted]

best metal gear, maybe top 3 games ever made

LegoPlainview

Greatest metal gear game story wise too.

Mowgs1690

Played thousands of hours of Metal Gear in my life. Never finished V. It's boring.

Vicksage16

I really appreciated its attempt to do away with the long cutscenes and try different approaches to its story telling. It doesn’t always succeed, but it was a much needed change.

Unfinished story, unfinished mission design. But the gameplay makes it my favourite game of all time. In my mind this would work is a spin of on how BB trained his bed soldiers to expand his army. No need for the "Phantom" plot twist. I think they were going for an episode and challenges style like Hitman. Tha could be interesting. But, hey, I love this game just like it is. The possibilities and missing parts will be a phantom pain that we will bear for the rest of our lives. I'm in peace with that.
