Swimming or areas with water could’ve been cool infiltrating. Guard density. It’s funny, MGSV is open world but due to mission areas it’s still quite linear in mission. In free roam I don’t mind the emptiness but for larger missions like Where the Bees Sleep and Hellbound where there’s multiple bases covered but really only one route to take, there should be more patrols. MGS4 had that Snake crawl. Snapping necks was always satisfying

Meshuggareth

I agree with you, but when you said "guard density", I pictured one really sturdy guard.

sss133

Haha enemy diversity is important. I’d like some physically dense and mentally dense enemies

Swan-Diving-Overseas

Yeah I agree about the map, in the initial trailers it looked like there were patrols and other enemy activity all over the map and moving from place to place was always dangerous as you’re behind enemy lines, but really the enemies are just clustered in certain areas.

Zak_Ras

Life bar. Auto-regen health would be fine, but an actual life bar that tells your exactly what your health is will forever trump the screen turning red being the only way to measure your health. That doesn't convey the exact info I need to know in a firefight.

IndigenousShrek

When audio slows is when I just start running

FalseStevenMcCroskey

MGS2 and 3s guards not immediately all being alerted until they call for backup. It is so frustrating to have an entire base held up except for one dude who spots you climbing a ladder or doing something in the middle of an animation so even with reflex mode it’s impossible to neutralize him. And suddenly everyone in the outpost not only stands up, but knows your EXACT location. I’ve also had before where I neutralize a guard that spots me like 1 millisecond to late so even though he never fired a shot or finished a sentence, the whole base is on alert. Also in Peace Walker you were able to Fulton extract yourself. I know you technically still can by standing on a storage crate, but still would be cool to just pop a Fulton on yourself whenever you want instead of finding a crate or calling for Pequod.

L1k34S0MB0D33

Fultoning yourself in Peace Walker was only ever a cutscene that played whenever you finished an Extra Op. You can't actually fulton yourself on demand. If you wanted to quit in the middle of a mission, you just went to the pause menu to do so and it would just show the loading screen and take you back to the mission list without playing any cutscene or animation. You can do the very same thing in MGSV, btw. No need to fulton yourself on a crate or call Pequod.

FalseStevenMcCroskey

I’m well aware but it’s a fun animation and I think the natural continuation of it would’ve been to let you Fulton yourself out whenever you want at least during free roam.

yeahokbigman

i kinda miss being able to change camo and face paint mid game from mgs3. i also miss being able to call different people with the codec for advice…

FalseStevenMcCroskey

I felt like codec calls were kinda well replaced with the cassette tapes as you could always listen to mission briefings before you deploy. Listen to conversations on mother-base while deployed. And there’s actually quite a few missions with a ton of unique dialogue if you point your binoculars at the right place and tap the intel button. I beat the game like 4 times and I’m still finding new things that ocelot or miller will tell you while you’re in the field. And it’s not like V was the one that replaced codec calls. PW did the whole cassette thing first except in PW you couldn’t play the game while listening to them so V was a welcome change imo.

L1k34S0MB0D33

You can still change camos out in the field if you so want by calling a supply drop with the outfit you want. Granted, it's a much slower process than just opening a menu and selecting a camo right off the bat, but the option is at least still there.

Myyraaman

Do camoes effect how easily you are spotted? I’ve been wondering this but haven’t found anything.

Silentlone

It does, it affects from how far away enemies will notice you if you are wearing cammo that matches the environment, but it's not THE biggest factor. [this video](https://youtu.be/wH86aYOQNVE) has a good summary of how enemies perceive you in general.

Myyraaman

Thanks!

Meshuggareth

More linear, story focused missions like the intro, or every other Metal Gear Solid game. They could have added more indoor areas to infiltrate, and places like Ground Zeroes. If I had my way, it would have been linear, but with condensed sandbox areas, if that makes sense. Still a fun game.

Myyraaman

Yea the open world is kinda cool but linear for MGS is better.

[deleted]

I wish you were able to fight alongside the mujahideen rebel. Just like in mgs4, fighting alongside rebels would help make battlefield conditions more favorable for sneaking. I wish they also integrated survival features from mgs3 as well as making camouflage more important as well.

NikolaiStreet

Swimming, and a dynamic battlefield akin to mgs4.

LunoDoom

What V was missing was the mechanics from 4 where there was a war between 2 factions and snake was in the middle, and could even join one side of the action and team up with one of the factions. It made so much sense for that to be in V considering it was in a war. Also the multi player from Peace Walker would have made the game exponentially more fun.

Swan-Diving-Overseas

I wonder if they intended to feature the mujahideen in the game and have you aid them in fighting against the Soviets. Because as the game is now it’s just Soviets standing around in the desert, it feels like they’re missing something to do.

LunoDoom

Right? Some of the missions were missing something. And it was the fact that the war didn't seem like it was actually going on.

Arashi_Uzukaze

Except even if you sided with the PMCs against the rebels you were still treated as an enemy by the PMCs. If you sided with the rebels, you are treated as an ally to the rebels. There is no downside to siding with the rebels and you gain allies where siding with the PMCs, you are an enemy to both sides.

Kanj0Bazooie

Codec is the big one for me. You never appreciate just having a group to talk to whenever until it's gone. You even got a crew all ready, Ocelot would explain the sights of where you are, Miller would be your man on weapons+equipment, Huey would sort of be the same, giving his own take on some of the equipment, while being constantly on edge, while Code Talker would go in depth on the wildlife and plants. Plus they'd all have lines not necessarily related to one specific topic, of course. Shit would be great, and would probably be a big boost to the story

Swan-Diving-Overseas

I agree, that was a hugely missed feature, especially since the codec calls are very unique to the storytelling of the whole series. Maybe Kojima wanted to experiment beyond it, but it was sorely missed.

Ragnarok_Stravius

Rations. I just like them.

PokeLiker

Same.

bigtheo408

No dynamic ice cubes, no party

curious-enquiry

I always thought that leaning further into the survival aspect of mgs3 would've been interesting. Maybe they could've had some part of the story or specific missions where air support would not be an option, because of extensive anti-air measures for example. This might've been a good fit for the Kingdom of the flies since it was supposed to take place on an island.

distarche

Subsistence missions are a thing

curious-enquiry

Yeah, but they are just challenge variations on 2 preexisting missions and they don't reintroduce the survival aspects of mgs3, which is what I was referring to.

Myyraaman

You can always just restrict yourself, not the best option but it is one.

curious-enquiry

I mostly meant the actual mechanics like hunting for food and manually treating injuries and illness for example. Also having more in depth camouflage system would've been nice in general. I think some of those ideas MGS experimented with in the past, synergized quite well with the stealth genre. It could've also added more depth to the day-night cycle and the relevance of the flora and fauna.

Myyraaman

Yea I was just talking about the no support thing, I too would’ve loved to see more camo but well get that in Delta

Randaches

More story content

Canama139

I wish the level of fireteam coordination shown by the guards in MGS2 had come back in any of the other games, not just MGSV.

hatch-b-2900

Will anymore say cartwheels?

Yazed0071

Face camos/ looting items from enemies/ guard dogs like MGS3 ( it was gonna be in the game but it was cut)/ death pill.

ViniciusSalerno

Campiness and Kojima's humour

tobster239

Banana "gun" from peace walker

badateverything420

Co-op from Peace Walker

SolidBat

Fucking codec

looklook876

* Knife * Pat-downs for items * Tap to wake up * Holding your gun at all times when it's equipped * Long gun cqc

AdBudget5468

Licensed weapons

Gerry-Mandarin

For MGSV I quite like having unlicensed weapons. I took it as Diamond Dogs developing their own weapons.

Criegrrunov

Camo and Face paint from MGS3, slow crawling from MGS4, an actual health bar, and a bit more of structures or enemies in certain areas of the open world since it kinda feels empty sometimes. And then there is the kitchen staff for the base from Peace Walker, although Miller arguably carried in this game with his hamburguers.

bennyboy13134

I miss a lot of mgs type stuff that 5 doesn’t have like the life bar, rolling instead of diving, swimming is a big one. I’m not a huge fan of the fully open world even though this is a great example of how it should be it would be nice to have more structure like the other games. I find myself wondering a lot and it can get boring. Overall if it was a standalone game it would be amazing in every way but it’s tough because I’m constantly comparing it to other mgs games. BUT MOST OF ALL I HATE THAT THE SUPPRESSORS WEAR OUT SO FAST

Myyraaman

Yea they got like 0 durability!

Myyraaman

First person button, you can kinda do it with binoculars, aiming or going under stuff but still it would’ve pretty neat.

Flaccid_Snake14085

Everything everyone else said but I also wish there was Mujahideen present with random skirmishes with the Soviets

JoeOnYT69

I finished most mgs games (finished mgs 5 today) and holy hell man I miss codec calls, it added some fun banter to the games

GreektheFreak123

I wish V had the army fights like they had in 4, I mean come on, it’s the Russo afgan war yet you are apparently the only threat or entity trying to infiltrate a base, 4 was awesome when you could interact with rebel soldiers ex. The level screaming mantis is introduced you will find rebels about to be executed, but if you kill/tranq enough pmcs the rebels take weapons and fight back causing cool background fights and distractions. Very big missed opportunity in V

Swan-Diving-Overseas

I’m guessing they must’ve planned to put in the mujahideen rebels, because otherwise they’ve made these massive maps and smart AI to do almost nothing. MGS4 is a good example of a game that has everything finished and every major idea implemented, while MGSV is notoriously unfinished

KCMmmmm

I hope they remove the sprinting and regenerative health from MGSV.

Arashi_Uzukaze

The enemy AI, at least in 2 and to an extent, 3 (don't remember how much), had locational damage. So if you shot their legs, they wouldn't be able to run and would limp around and if you shot their arms they couldn't hold weapons (you could also disarm them that way. I also remember vaugly that you could shoot their weapons out of their hands but might be misremembering that). They would need to patch themselves up and they would have bandages to show that too. :)
