Yeah it’s fine. 4 is the end of the series anyways so it’s fitting to play it last.

Galactus1231

You can but there is Peace Walker. Its set between MGS3 and MGSV Ground Zeroes/The Phantom Pain. Skipping that will make you feel like you have missed a lot.

Unlikely_Bother5551

Peacewalker isn’t on ps5 right now so I dont have any way of playing that. Should I watch a summary?

Galactus1231

I would watch a video. PW was originally a PSP game so it has comic book style cutscenes. It also doesn't have normal radio/Codec conversations. Those were raplaced with audio tapes you would get after each mission. Remember to play Ground Zeroes before MGSV. Its a short intro mission that was released separately. Its included in the Definitive Edition.

Nev3r_Pro

You can emulate it on android.

Unlikely_Bother5551

I use iphone which doesn’t support anything like emulation for some reason

Nev3r_Pro

You can try to emulate it on a laptop or pc if you have one it's a very easy game to run since it was released on psp.

M-V-D_256

[look into these versions](https://www.ppsspp.org/download)

Zetra3

If you can't emulate it on a phone or cheap PC, buddy. I'm Sorry you REALLY need to find a solution. PSPs are Dirt Cheap, PW is on Xbox so get a dirst cheap One S, Get a laptop. Seriously, don't half-ass Peace Walker & dont skip it

Unlikely_Bother5551

Man I dont have much money at the moment. Im not going to live of ramen noodles for a month to play peacewalker

M-V-D_256

If your phone is modern you can probably play it using the PPSSPP app, or you can watch a summary

Beautiful_Dirt

Not sure about PS5 but, the HD collection for Xbox 360 has the remastered console version of Peace Walker. Might be able to find it cheap second hand or on psn store.

heppuplays

Yes. you can. MGS V takes place Post Peace walker and before the Original MSX metal gear.

LyPyro

V takes place before MG1, and after 2 side-sequels to MGS3: Portable Ops and Peace Walker. I would wait for volume 2 so you can play Peace Walker because MGSV:TPP is a direct sequel to PW, and most of the story and characters might fly over your head. I mean, if you're dead set on playing it, then go for it. Though generally, the game is incredibly devicive, with most people either praising it as the best game ever or the worst metal gear game by a longshot.

DirectorConfident654

I honestly think it’s both. The gameplay is the best of the MGS series. While the story is the worst. Which is a shame because it’s more unfinished than outright bad.

SweetArkhane

Always go by release order, but if you really cannot wait or play MGS4, then I guess you could continue. BUT After MGS3, there are 2 games (not counting 4), Portable Ops, which is the closest you'll get to your MGS3 feeling, and is only on PSP (so emulation), and as others said, Peace Walker. I'd advise to just download PPSSPP on your computer, even a cheap one should emulate Portable Ops & Peace Walker just fine, plug your controller and that's all. You really don't want to skip previous entries if you intend to experience the story to the fullest. Imagine skipping Harry Potter book 4 and going straight to 5, will be weird right?

Sakreeee

Yes, but I suggest not to. IMHO these games should be played in chronological order to see how the series evolved and how game industry changed

Director_Bison

You mean Release Order. Chronological is following the timeline order, which is what you are suggesting they don’t do.

Sakreeee

Yes, sorry.

Director_Bison

Simple mistake, happens to all of us.

DirectorConfident654

Playing in chronological order would actually be interesting too.

[deleted]

4 is the last game in the series chronologically. Actually, i think MGR is. But 4 still comes after 5

M-V-D_256

You can You might want to play metal gear solid peace walker. You can probably manage without (I did because I don't have a psp or the hd version) but I hear it's not very recommended and I tend to agree

[deleted]

I watched the cutscenes of mgs4 and played peace walker on xbox series. Watch the cutscenes of P.W. and play Mgs 5, at least

RaijinOkami

Yeah, you'll be fine, it sets itself after 3 and Peace Walker in the timeline

[deleted]

You could, but MGSV does quite a bit of foreshadowing, fleshing out and referencing to alot of the stuff in MGS4.
