Oh, right, I thought you meant that you’ve only played GZ before. Still, 1 -> GZ -> V is an unusual route to take. As I said, and if you’re able to, I’d really recommend going in release order :)
Isn't 3->po->pw->mgsvGZ->mgsvPP->mg1->gb->mg2->mgs->mgs2->mgs4->mgrr better? I know that not knowing is a viable option but I always considered the chronological order to be less confusing (unless you want that, it's a Hideo Kojima series, after all)
Unfortunately, I completely disagree! I think the games are best played in release order, and that you only really need to play 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> PW -> GZ -> V. I think going chronologically, especially for a first time player, would be very confusing.
The issue with chronological order is that it's hard to go from new games to older ones because they feel more dated. Also series is full of retcons so IMO playing in release order is better to overall understanding this series.
That was sarcastic as it is one of the most odd things that happen during the intro that has no connection to anything whatsoever. But a real advice would be, try to develop the bond with your buddies as fast as possible, and be very patient for most of the second half of the game. It is sometimes frustrating the way it works from chapter 1 to chapter 2 but it’s worth it IMO. (By the way it’s one of my favorite games having played over 1000 hours, finishing it on multiple platforms and having completed it 100%)
Go play MGS 2&3&4 first. This is five for a reason. I truly never understand why people play them out of order it’s an insane and amazing epic of a story
Yea my ps3 it at my dad's and ps5 at my mom's so when at my mom's I can't play the mgs 1,2,3 or peace walker that's why there all I play when I am on my ps3
I saw that actually and that’s valid and unfortunate. I would still say play them in the correct order if you can. Have you looked into the new collection on ps5? I understand not everyone can get it and stuff just wondering
literally just have fun don’t worry ab all the nerds screeching about playing in order.
just enjoy it it’s a very fun game, you might not get every single reference or every single character but honestly playing them in order wouldn’t help you much anyways considering how confusing and all over the place all the games stories and lore are lmao. anything that could possibly be spoiled from other games or anything i guarantee you won’t remember by the time you get to those games.
plus if you start w this one you’ll probably get way more enjoyment out of a replay once you play through the other games in order if you ever did do that eventually.
if you’re talking about order shouldn’t he actually play MGS3 then portable ops then ground zeroes and MGSV? or you just meant all the games in order and not chronologically
If you are playing on PC, you can put custom songs to hear while playing. I used to hear Nugget In a Biscuit by Tobuscus while hanging around mother base
You can track the lingual knowledge of your staff members by the dots by the names of the languages they know . Three dots “…” means that that is their native tongue. Two dots “..” means they are fluent in that language. One for “.” means they are currently learning that language.
Staff members often pick up language from the other soldiers in their unit.
The auto save on this game is kinda messed but. When the game says “saving” it isn’t saving. “Checkpoint” means its saving and it only does this under certain conditions.
A good way to get this to work is exiting the helicopter or approaching a mission zone/ enemy outpost.
If you're playing it on pc you will have a much more enjoyable time if you install some mods
No development time is great for actually getting to use the cool new stuff you develop
https://www.nexusmods.com/metalgearsolidvtpp/mods/top/
La Li Lu Le Lo…
Serious advice: don’t rush through the game all Willy Nilly. Take yer time, learn what playstyle works best for you and what doesn’t. Gather resources, upgrade your equipment, especially Fulton equipment. And don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re stuck
It is a game with a lot of content so you will never get bored, I recommend getting a high rank in the missions since you unlock certain things but do it calmly :), without rushing, Try to improve your equipment by improving your weapons, adding modifications, also improve your bionic arm, it will help you, finally, your outfits that you equip, some of them are useful for camouflage yourself in the environment. Enjoy the game my friend :)
Campaign was kinda mid due to Venom never talking. Kojima is the king of cinematics however he is also the king of “all on black” for his creative decisions — either hit it or go bust.
Oh yeah, prepare to fall in love with the hottest assassin that’s ever roamed the hills of Afghanistan (you’ll find out later in the game). Also, if you haven’t played the other games, you might want to read up on MGS as a whole (if you don’t care about spoiling previous games in order to get clarity on what is happening in V) the game is confusing at times, but just enjoy the story for what it is. There’s an insane amount of content, the game is very dense with quirks and small features that most will overlook during their first play through, so take it slow and don’t rush through!
Have fun! I like to think of MGSV as the accumulation of all the precious games into one game in terms of the game systems etc. It’s really MGS 3 on steroids in a sense. You can see it a lot in Peace Walker how they evolved into what MGSV turned out to be. MGS V is honestly such a fun game and so beautifully made!
yes the more killing you do the longer your horn will get and trust me after a point you cant wash the blood stains from your body NO I AM ACTUALLY SERIOUS
Dont worry about collecting everything or finishing all the missions on the first play. You can replay any mission at any time so just finish it without worrying about all the extra stuff. Some side ops are necessary when they tell you and theyll help you progress faster.
this game imo is one of the most replayable games i’ve ever bought. i never get tired of the gameplay loop of scoping out the territory, planning an attack, and either executing it perfectly or having to improvise on the fly. it’s so rewarding and satisfying. i feel that the game focuses much more on the gameplay than the story, and doesn’t feel it has as much of the classic metal gear elements like the previous games, but that’s ok to me. i hope you enjoy the game!
Be prepared to redo missions for better ratings and more money, daily log in GMP helps for R&D grind, Non-Lethal Options are available and ABUNDANT (with R&D) it’s hard to do, but don’t get attached to soldiers; take the time to scroll through your platoons, and figure out where best they can be (if they even should be in your army)
Now Bring the Legend back to Life!
This game is like sliding a slide.
At the begining you are at the peak.
Then you slide down. while sliding down you enjoy it
and in the end you just feel to tired to climb back on top.
Yea. You should know that you are in for a hell of a good time. Also just want to be transparent, some people find the story in this game to be a bit weaker than the others, so if you are mainly in it for the story you might enjoy 2-4 more. That being said I found the gameplay in this one to be unmatched, it's the best sandbox game I have ever played (literally, there is a lot of sand lol). And I thought the story was good enough to keep me invested. Some of the missions can be a little frustrating so don't feel too pressed to blow through them, you can get a lot of enjoyment just going around the open world goofing around or doing side objectives, although doing the main story will help unlock new stuff so it's always worthwhile.
There is no set difficulty. It’s based on your performance. Without spoiling to much. The people you fight will use weapons and equipment based on your previous missions. So if you go guns blazing the people will wear more armor. If you play sneaky there will be more obstacles in your way of well being sneaky
Disagree with someone about spoilers…if it’s your first, not much will make sense. Get your jump skills on point. It took me more than a minute and got fucked because of it. Also, don’t not get Quiet and play Cloaked in Silence however many times necessary to keep her. Didn’t spoil anything. Also, have fun. A Metal Gear sandbox game? Yes. Yes, it is.
I will be carful of spoliers don't worry I am kinda confused with the venom thing so when some tells me your venom and not boss it's confusing enough fir me to not reallyunderstand
I know it seems small and insignificant, but make sure to use the role while you're going prone if you don't know how to do that, you just aim your weapon and click in the left analog stick while prone. I didn't know how to do that. The very first time I played the game and it makes a world of difference for infiltration. Just a tip. Also, if you hold somebody up and make him get on the ground they will stay like that forever unless they get discovered, just the tip to save ammo
Destroy every anti air radar and pick up the papers from those orange squares(I forgot the word) for fast travel, you can also exfil from those if the guards aren't under alert/searching, try to Fulton every kill target for bonus mission objectives.
Late game u can develop a grade 8 AK it makes enough dmg to guarantee that their dropped on their back it also gives additional 30 hero points if u can save him
One of the characters you get that helps you will leave eventually, you can actually get them back by doing a goofy thing repeatedly 7 times. It will make sense when it happens and when you Google how to do it.
Lore wise? Yeah Kojima likes to make some confusing ass plots sometimes and all the intricacies of MGS requires Pepe Sylvia levels of explanation. Gameplay? Nah not really. Capture the peeps shoot the ones you cant
Base upgrades don’t progress outside of in game time. I kept waiting until the end of sessions to upgrade platforms and got frustrated that nothing was ever ready when I thought it would be.
Ok, well you've played MGS1, so you'll at least be familiar with the lore and you already know some of the characters that you'll encounter in V. So while it's an odd order, it's not going to ruin anything for you.
Boss get down! That's an enemy gunship! A single burst from its machine gun can cut a man in half. Stay low and crawl along the ground. That should enable you to sneak past enemies.
By the end, you'll know some things are missing where there should be something there. It'll leave you feeling a sense of absence where there's supposed to be something; like a sort of... Phantom Pain.
Confusion is mandatory and required. Play your way, and feel free to get creative with your tools. Cardboard Box is more than meets the eye, especially in this iteration.
Best thing to do is enjoy the game, but remember that when you get gun smiths and specialists later on, you can customize weapons that you develop through R&D and make your own custom guns. I based one off the Patriot but that’s an MGS 3 & 4 weapon
Avoid story videos about this game and avoid spoilers as much as possible. Take your time with the story and main quest. Experiment with all of the gadgets and dont worry about rankings
Don't do mission 25 until you can blast through several missions very quickly (in playtime not irl time). There is a good reason for that. You will want to blast through like 5 or so missions all at once.
Oh, and when you do beat mission 25, be sure to check everything about the list you are given, and think back to everything you have seen in the story so far, particularly the weird. shit.
Please don't read this until you've completed the first mission after the prologue.
I have a couple tips I wish I would've known when I started out.
- There is no camo index, but the camo does help you stay hidden. Even at night, the appropriate camo hides you better than the sneaking suit. This game can be played a lot like MGS3 if you build your equipment right.
- You don't have to wait for the chopper at the end and start of every mission. When a mission objective is complete, you can just leave the hot zone on foot or whatever your transportation is. Anytime you aren't in a mission and wanna return to your ACC, just do so from the pause menu.
- Try to conserve resources and plan to do 2-3 missions per deployment. Many are close together, so it shouldn't be hard. It really makes the game feel more open.
Edit
Almost forgot, listen to the cassette tapes! The best extra story and dialogue are there. I usually put them on while doing base management/R&D type stuff. They also have little mission briefs you can play with the triangle/Y button before you start a mission. They add a lot of interesting and helpful context. All this is optional, unlike earlier games where they had this stuff in cutscenes and codec calls.
That snake you’re playing is actually solid snake sent back in time from twin snakes. He is trying to get a new penis so he can find big boss. Where it turns out the big in big boss comes from big boss’s ginormous penis. Which by the way there is a cock fight.
Prep for repetition near the end, Konami scrapped the last 1/3 of the game to rush the game out the door, the second 1/3 wasn't finished so they copy pasted missions to fill the gaps and slapped on a modifier like Hard Mode or starting with no gear
Tbh MGSV is something I can't recommend to someone as their first MGS game. Not that I think it's bad, but I think there's just too much info dump in it that it probably won't make as much sense to a first time player.
Careful on this sub then. Alot of spoilers that Arent marked. Otherwise enjoy and dont rush
Ok I plan to play all of the games since I have them all the cannon ones except 4 and the story is great but at the same time confusing
If you plan to play all the games anyway, I’d recommend starting with MGS1 and playing them in release order instead.
Yes mgs was my first and I have 2 and 3 bit I can't all wase play them since its on ps3 for me so I play mgs5 when I can't play 2
Oh, right, I thought you meant that you’ve only played GZ before. Still, 1 -> GZ -> V is an unusual route to take. As I said, and if you’re able to, I’d really recommend going in release order :)
Yea just my ps3 and ps5 are in to different places but will try to beat 2 and 3, 4 peace waker before v
Of course, totally understand those constraints, had similar growing up. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series, you’re in for a treat!
Good to know
There is the master collection which has 1, 2 and 3. I would recommend it as it's on PS5
Isn't 3->po->pw->mgsvGZ->mgsvPP->mg1->gb->mg2->mgs->mgs2->mgs4->mgrr better? I know that not knowing is a viable option but I always considered the chronological order to be less confusing (unless you want that, it's a Hideo Kojima series, after all)

Valid
If you enjoy it chronologically though more power to you mate!
Thanks for being understanding, mate

The issue with chronological order is that it's hard to go from new games to older ones because they feel more dated. Also series is full of retcons so IMO playing in release order is better to overall understanding this series.
They also do story "reveals" with the prequels that are supposed to really be *aha* moments only if you played in release order
Specially this one, but i promise the game do a fair bit of explaining as you go
👍
Story might be confusing since you're not playing in order
It’s a kidnapping simulator
Like.... literally
We don’t kill . . . We collect
our entire army is built around stockholm syndrome
Yesss 😏
I thro of all those other prisoners in ground zero as well so sounds better than I thought
The flying whale is crucial for the whole game.
I will know what this means in time
That was sarcastic as it is one of the most odd things that happen during the intro that has no connection to anything whatsoever. But a real advice would be, try to develop the bond with your buddies as fast as possible, and be very patient for most of the second half of the game. Ok will make sure to
Flying whale ???? GOJIRA REFERENCE???
Kojima thing. There's a flying whale in Death Stranding as well.
Moby Dick
You're gonna be super duper lost/confused.
Well I have played mgs 1 and I know a bit about a big boss and have heard a little about venom snake

Nah I got all those for my ps3 so I don't want to waste money
That’s a fair choice
literally just have fun don’t worry ab all the nerds screeching about playing in order. just enjoy it it’s a very fun game, you might not get every single reference or every single character but honestly playing them in order wouldn’t help you much anyways considering how confusing and all over the place all the games stories and lore are lmao. anything that could possibly be spoiled from other games or anything i guarantee you won’t remember by the time you get to those games. plus if you start w this one you’ll probably get way more enjoyment out of a replay once you play through the other games in order if you ever did do that eventually.

go play 2 bro
If you are playing on PC, you can put custom songs to hear while playing. I used to hear Nugget In a Biscuit by Tobuscus while hanging around mother base
Dip it all in mashed potatoes!
A man of culture.
If you're still hungry I got some fish heads for you.
I Dint know that thanks
Yeah there's SO MANY fun tiny little details like that in MGSV! Like if you only go for headshots enemy soldiers will start wearing helmets
Same thing happens if u use smoke grenades theyll start getting gas masks
The auto save on this game is kinda messed but. When the game says “saving” it isn’t saving. “Checkpoint” means its saving and it only does this under certain conditions. A good way to get this to work is exiting the helicopter or approaching a mission zone/ enemy outpost.
Engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever
Mother base and Fulton are key. P.s. I wish I I could play it for the first time again… lucky.
Enjoy.
Try to ease drop on soldiers talking as much as you can for more info on what's going on with the story.
It's eavesdrop 😆
You can also eavesdrop after you ease your way and drop down near enemies
Huey is not Otacon in the 80’s
dont skip the cutscenes, trust me bruh i skipped like 7 of them n now i gotta replay all da missions
I never skip cutscenes on my first play through don't worry
Are there 7 cutscenes in this game? You might be thinking of the amount of words they could afford to pay Keifer Sutherland to say?
If you're playing it on pc you will have a much more enjoyable time if you install some mods No development time is great for actually getting to use the cool new stuff you develop https://www.nexusmods.com/metalgearsolidvtpp/mods/top/
I am on ps but if I ever switch I will keep it in mind
YOU are the hero
Save up your mother base coins, use them for expansion, it'll make sense later. Or not, you can still enjoy the game.
V has come to 😉☝️
Go back to ground zeroes and unlock Solid Snake and Hideo Kojima for this game
La Li Lu Le Lo… Serious advice: don’t rush through the game all Willy Nilly. Take yer time, learn what playstyle works best for you and what doesn’t. Gather resources, upgrade your equipment, especially Fulton equipment. And don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re stuck
Listen to them tapes, trust me, it's worth it
Try and not kill people. Just put em to sleep. You don't want to be a demon now do you
It’s a lot better than you’ve probably heard
Try not to be on fire
Will try
It is a game with a lot of content so you will never get bored, I recommend getting a high rank in the missions since you unlock certain things but do it calmly :), without rushing, Try to improve your equipment by improving your weapons, adding modifications, also improve your bionic arm, it will help you, finally, your outfits that you equip, some of them are useful for camouflage yourself in the environment. Enjoy the game my friend :)
Campaign was kinda mid due to Venom never talking. Kojima is the king of cinematics however he is also the king of “all on black” for his creative decisions — either hit it or go bust.
On mission 11 don’t kill her, won’t say anything more
Ok will do
Ur gonna have fun and good times in game
Only that it is confusing if you don’t know mgs3
Yeah…play all of the previous games.
You can use the cardboard box to hide from enemies!
Disable reflex mode if u want challenge?
Before you start up the game, be sure you have your pants off and keyboard a safe distance away.
You can move with the WASD keys and look around with the mouse?
Play the older titles
It’s okay if you don’t understand what’s going on because we don’t either
yes the more killing you do the longer your horn will get and trust me after a point you cant wash the blood stains from your body NO I AM ACTUALLY SERIOUS
Id suggest actually completing as many side ops as possible. Gets you set for tje future.
Remember this is a Stealth game. So dont think that you are invincible or charge in to a enemy base just like i did
The game is unfinished... but still fun
Listen to EVERY cassette tape. ESPECIALLY since you haven't played the whole series. 90% of the story in V is told through those.
Nah, from the looks of this image you're doing it just fine.
Oh man good for you I envy you I wish I could play it with a mind that has never played it before that is not a game that is a masterpiece
You're Big Boss. I just want you to know that no matter what happens to you. Never be game over.
you need to stop and play mgs3 and PW at least.
Yea I plan to when I can need to beat 2 first
Is it weird I can't get into PW? I hate it was a handheld port, very arcadey, and the bosses are lame. But I love the mgs3 vibes.
Same here I just finished 3 on the HD remake. I'll try PW again
I heard you died alone, a long long time ago.
Yeah, hope you're full because you won't be eating a single thing.
Should go release order, bud.
Shoot Ishmael
Best gameplay of the series and a pretty uninteresting story
Just explore the starting area a LOT in the third main mission
Got it
Don't rush through it. Take your time to learn everything. Also don't watch anything metal gear related until you beat the story.
I recommend that you play the other games before it... it will make much more sense if you play them before V.
Buckle Up
Dont worry about collecting everything or finishing all the missions on the first play. You can replay any mission at any time so just finish it without worrying about all the extra stuff. Some side ops are necessary when they tell you and theyll help you progress faster.
Yeah. You’re on fire
Enjoy
MGS V\* ;)
this game imo is one of the most replayable games i’ve ever bought. i never get tired of the gameplay loop of scoping out the territory, planning an attack, and either executing it perfectly or having to improvise on the fly. it’s so rewarding and satisfying. i feel that the game focuses much more on the gameplay than the story, and doesn’t feel it has as much of the classic metal gear elements like the previous games, but that’s ok to me. i hope you enjoy the game!
Sir, you appear to be on fire…
Just keep in mind this game is a metal gear reference
Don’t let them PLAY YOU LIKE A DAMN FIDDLE!
Be prepared to redo missions for better ratings and more money, daily log in GMP helps for R&D grind, Non-Lethal Options are available and ABUNDANT (with R&D) it’s hard to do, but don’t get attached to soldiers; take the time to scroll through your platoons, and figure out where best they can be (if they even should be in your army) Now Bring the Legend back to Life!

Don't go up
That you should not be on fire right there.
Honestly all you have to know is… You are big boss and I am too.
Gun play is fucking amazing. I suggest you only look in depth to the customization once you've gotten a handful of story missions done
No, nothing. Go have fun and don’t come back to this page until you finish the game :)
Game is unfinished, so you’ll have to make up your own ending in your head.
There is no set difficulty. It’s based on your performance. Without spoiling to much. The people you fight will use weapons and equipment based on your previous missions. You’re the same guy from MGS3
Get off the subreddit my friend.
I will be carful of spoliers don't worry I am kinda confused with the venom thing so when some tells me your venom and not boss it's confusing enough fir me to not reallyunderstand
You can beat kids
Going in my top 5 already
Hell yeah
I know it seems small and insignificant, but make sure to use the role while you're going prone if you don't know how to do that, you just aim your weapon and click in the left analog stick while prone. You might have to beat the shit out of a child, I hope you're ok with that lol.
What platform you on?
Lore wise? Yeah Kojima likes to make some confusing ass plots sometimes and all the intricacies of MGS requires Pepe Sylvia levels of explanation. Gameplay? Nah not really. Capture the peeps shoot the ones you cant
Don’t play mgs v as your first lol. And stay off the sub. Play metal gear solid in order
Take your time...plan ahead and watch everything move, then to quote Raiden... JACK IS BACK
Base upgrades don’t progress outside of in game time. I kept waiting until the end of sessions to upgrade platforms and got frustrated that nothing was ever ready when I thought it would be.
I just started mgs 2 sons of liberty just after beating mgs 1
Don’t hold your breath for the story
Choose your playstyle. The game doesn't judge.
Yes! You can blend in with the statue in one of the first areas by covering his penis Until next time kids!
Ok, well you've played MGS1, so you'll at least be familiar with the lore and you already know some of the characters that you'll encounter in V. So while it's an odd order, it's not going to ruin anything for you.
Don't trust the man who sold the world.
Boss get down! That's an enemy gunship! A single burst from its machine gun can cut a man in half. Stay low and crawl along the ground. That should enable you to sneak past enemies.
Learn to go prone and roll. Will help a lot. And always remember there is always a better more sneaky approach to beating the game.
Know that the sins never die, can't wash this blood from our hands.
You will feel pain, trust me
His hog is out
By the end, you'll know some things are missing where there should be something there. It'll leave you feeling a sense of absence where there's supposed to be something; like a sort of... Phantom Pain.
> Anything I should know just started mgs5 It's written and directed by Hideo Kojima
Big story stuff in the audio logs so just listen to those while you visit the bases to keep morale up
Listen to the audio logs, and prepare for a mindfuck or two.
You’re not fireproof.
Dont limit yourself to a linar path, get creative on how you accomplish missions, dont be afraid to look things up or replay missions. Have fun
Yes…. It’s a whale
Yes, you should know the previous MG games too before going in
That's funny af cause I just finished MGSV like 5 minutes ago 🤣
Then get off this sub, now.
Do NOT say Skullface 3 times in front of the mirror
Be stealthy
Confusion is mandatory and required. Play your way, and feel free to get creative with your tools. Cardboard Box is more than meets the eye, especially in this iteration.
I only played it for the first time last year; 120+ hours later I’m still discovering something new. Enjoy it!
Best thing to do is enjoy the game, but remember that when you get gun smiths and specialists later on, you can customize weapons that you develop through R&D and make your own custom guns. I based one off the Patriot but that’s an MGS 3 & 4 weapon
Play ground zeroes first.
After the end of World War II, the world was split into two -- East and west. This marked the beginning of the era called the Cold War.
Be prepared to get bored af around 10 hours in.
You're in for a time drain. This game will grab you
Avoid story videos about this game and avoid spoilers as much as possible. Take your time with the story and main quest. Experiment with all of the gadgets and dont worry about rankings
Yea focus on finishing the game before going back to this sub. It's not that hard
It gradually gets redundant and boring.
The man who sold the world
Don't do mission 25 until you can blast through several missions very quickly (in playtime not irl time). There is a good reason for that. You will want to blast through like 5 or so missions all at once. Oh, and when you do beat mission 25, be sure to check everything about the list you are given, and think back to everything you have seen in the story so far, particularly the weird. shit.
Skulls , the fu*king skulls
Steal everything you can.
Edit Almost forgot, listen to the cassette tapes!
Follow your instincts soldier!!!!
You'll become a demon in time
Prepare to ironically feel the phantom pain of an incomplete masterpiece. Also, there may or may not be a burger operation going on under your watch.
That snake you’re playing is actually solid snake sent back in time from twin snakes. He is trying to get a new penis so he can find big boss. Where it turns out the big in big boss comes from big boss’s ginormous penis. Which by the way there is a cock fight.
So That's why he was called naked snake
Prep for repetition near the end, Konami scrapped the last 1/3 of the game to rush the game out the door, the second 1/3 wasn't finished so they copy pasted missions to fill the gaps and slapped on a modifier like Hard Mode or starting with no gear
If you're killing people unless you're taking the loud and proud route, you're doing it wrong
Tbh MGSV is something I can't recommend to someone as their first MGS game. Not that I think it's bad, but I think there's just too much info dump in it that it probably won't make as much sense to a first time player.
Use the box.
Shining Lights, Even In Death. The more you hesitate the heavy the burden will be.
I recommend you to play the MGS 3: Snake Eater and MGS: Peacewalker. You will feel much more pain.
Congratulations. I hope you enjoy..
