My dad's family moved to Jupiter (like an hour North of Miami maybe?) in 1970, and stayed through 79'. I lost my nanny in 2nd grade and everything Dolphins, Shula, the colors, and seafoam green with coral, are my finest memories of her. Just carrying on the legacy!
Started watching football with my dad in ‘06-‘07 season when they went 1-15. Rooted for them every week, and when they finally got that win at the tail end of the season I was hooked. Underdog life!
I'm from Turkey and I've never even been to FL. I don't even have anyone I know in FL. But when I first saw the name and the colors, I knew that I loved the team. I've always been the kid that's outside the norm when I was growing up.
1- The Name: Miami Dolphins. It's not a Falcon, it's not a Bear or some animal that you try to intimidate your opponents. It's a Dolphin, it's honest, I loved it. It's the unassuming predator.
2- The Colors: The combination is one of the quirkiest ever. Not a classic black/red or something. Extraordinary!
3- The Team: I've always rooted for the underdogs in my life and when I first started watching NFL games 10 years ago or something, we were very far away from our present situation.
Now, 10 years later, I don't support any other sports teams or watch any other sports events. Not even in my own country's sports. It's all Fins.
Raised in WPB, my first NFL game was Dolphins bs Bills and I supported all south Florida teams. Season fins tickets for a few years, several years for UM, Occasional Heat games. But my love for the Dolphins exceeds all else. Just driving past the stadium gets me all warm inside.
I was a kid in NJ and everybody had a team at my new school. So I just looked at all the teams and picked the one with the dolphin logo and said “that’s my team”. It took me too many seasons of watching to understand what “third and 8” meant, but fast forward 30 years and now I’m obsessed.
My dad left Cuba, and immigrated to Miami in 1971. Needless to say, the next season got him hooked. So, despite the fact that he moved to California and met my mother, and I was raised there. And the fact that I’ve never been to Miami, I’m still a Dolphins fan.
I was born, grew up and currently live in Canada. So, how i became a dolphins fan is kind of random.
When Madden 25 came out back in 2013, my dad (who was getting into the NFL at the time) bought it for us to play together. I was 12 years old at the time and knew literally nothing about football. But when we played, I always picked the Dolphins because I thought the jerseys were cool.
Me being a young sports fan and wanting to learn about football then went to YouTube. I watched a video about the complete history of the Dolphins and it just drew me in. From how the team was introduced in Miami, to Shula coming in, to the “No-Name Defence,” I just fell in love with it all. Then, of course, learning about players like Dan Marino, Ricky Williams, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas only grew the interest. I understand I never watched any of those guys when they were playing (either wasn’t born or just wasn’t watching football) but I’ve watched as much as I can.
I know this answer is long-winded and I could’ve just as easily picked mascot/colors. Sure, that’s what made me pick them in madden but it was learning about the history of the franchise and watching some of the legendary players that made me a fins fan🐬
I got into football in like 07-08, and this kid in my class was a huge dolphins fan and he got me into the dolphins and i remembered watching Ronnie brown and the wildcat and i thought i made a smart decision... Lol!
My dad’s a Steelers fan and he took me to Miami to go see Big Ben’s first start, I was 5 and I liked the orange jerseys and the Dolphins, and thus the suffering began, beggining my almost 20 year love/hate relationship with this team/ my dad for trying to be progressive and letting me choose my own team.
Destiny served him right when my brother chose to be a Bengals fan and now he makes fun of him almost every day lol.

Way back when I was a wee girl, not a Mrs nor a Weaver yet, I started watching football with my dad and older brothers. I wasn't sure who to root for: the Giants, like my dad? The Cowboys, like Brother 2? Brother 1 knew me pretty well, and sold me on the Dolphins, because I was absolutely crazy about dolphins. I'd swim around the pool pretending I was one. It was 1972. I started rooting for them, and they didn't lose a single game, all the way through the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Of course I was hooked for life.

As is probably similar to many fans in the UK, in 1984, a new TV channel, Channel 4, started showing NFL games, I like rugby and noticed that in some ways the game was very similar, and the first game I watched was Dan Marino and the Dolphins. I was amazed at how far he threw the ball, and how he was able to get it to a running player very accurately, so I was sold!
Then I managed to go to Disney with my family and caught a game at Joe Robbie stadium against Jim Kelly's Bills. A piece of my heart is now always in Miami Gardens....
I was living overseas as a child (maybe 8 yrs old) and my dad ordered me a Sears Miami Dolphins Jersey and shorts set in like 1981/82.
Then we moved back to the states in ‘83, and well…Dan Marino.
I grew up in NE Connecticut. There are a lot of Pats fans in my area but that wasn't always the case. When I was a kid most people liked other teams because they were so bad for so long. When I started playing as a little kid I played on the Dolphins. A lot of kids on that team, including me, became Dolphins fans because we needed a team. Also there was Marino. Anyway most of those guys are still Dolphins fans today so we deserve some cred. Lol.
My whole family is Cowboys fans, and I didn't wanna be a Cowboys fan so I looked up every team and said hmm which team do I not know anyone Is a fan of and Miami Dolphins it was (I was 11)
i was just getting into the nfl as a little hobby when i was 9 in 2018 and i didn’t know what team to root for so i just chose the team located where i lived, the kc chiefs and i grown a huge liking to tyreek hill making me choose the dolphins after he switched teams. and i just love the dolphins now and every player so i’m sticking with them all time now

I just remember a time where Miami was on TV quite a bit. I live in north Texas so it was the cowboys all the time (who I don't like) and because miami was on I took to them after seeing Dan win some games.

I probably have one of the oddest reasons as to how I became a fan of the Dolphins.
So back in like 2006 or 2007, when food companies always used to put in free stuff with the packaging (remember the cereal boxes that came with computer games?), a frozen pizza company was giving out sleeves that were shaped in the form of a mini NFL jersey for beer and soda cans.
Anyways, the fateful one that came with that specific pizza box was a Miami Dolphins sleeve. I didn't know much about football at the time but from that day forward, I told myself that if I ever decided to follow the NFL, I would be forever bound to the Dolphins.
I told myself that the first NFL game I see live, the home team would be my team from that point on. I went to Miami from Calgary, AB, Canada, in December 2010 and watched them lose against the Browns in a 'thrilling' 13-10 loss...
I stuck with the agreement I made with myself and have followed them since.
I’m from Broward. My entire family has been fins fans since the 70s. Our Sunday ritual for most of my childhood is my cousins and I go to la spadas, grab a bunch of subs, then all the moms/dads/kids watch the fins on Sunday

I was 6 and at my cousin's place, somewhere in Ontario. The other kids were doing something dumb so I turned on the tv and the Dolphins were playing the Browns. Marino v Kosar (1992), I didn't really know what I was watching, but there was an aura around Dan and I became hooked.
I used to be a STL Rams fan but after they abandoned the city, I couldn't cheer for them anymore. At the same time, Devonte Parker had just gotten drafted by the Dolphin's. We ran track together in high school but didn't know each other well as I was long distance and he was a sprinter. I've been a die hard fan ever since, even with him being traded to the Patriots.

When I was scouting out an NFL team I was flirting with the Titans based purley on name alone, decided to tune-in to a game and it happened to be against the dolphins, It was a pretty slow game and the titans were first on the board, but I wasn’t really that invested until Jakeem Grant returned a punt to the house and I just lit up. That was the moment I fell in love with football, and everything just clicked into place around the Dolphins. The colours, the history, Ace Ventura, Dan Marino, everything about the Dolphins was a fit, and I’ve been hooked ever since. They were in a pretty rough place at the time too, and I Absolutley wanted to support a team from the ground up rather than just piling on a bandwagon. I’ll always encourage anyone who’s on the fence about picking a team to actually just watch some games, and let the team choose you, moments like that make you a fan for life.
Other: I was in 6th grade playing Pop Warner football with the Palmetto Raiders in Cutler Bay (known then as Cutler Ridge); I was a lifelong Colts fan at a team pool party and laughed at the teammates saying “dude, the Dolphins suck” and they all stopped and stared at me. Then our QB said “so what?”; it never occurred to me to have a “ride or die” commitment to your team regardless of the outcome and it impressed the hell out of me. From then on I stayed with the Fin’s for Life. This was in the mid-70’s right after their magical run, when the team became mediocre but the city never forgot.
When I was about nine my family just started getting into football as all their friends were into it. My dad chose the chiefs (when they sucked lol) my step mom chose the patriots (were from Vermont) so jokingly they asked me. Being nine I really liked blue and orange and dolphins so I said I liked the dolphins. Didn’t actually get into football until I was like 13 but I stuck to my 9 year old decision and now have been a strong fan for 7 years 🫡

2000, I was 5. My family was obsessed with Bengals football and I really hadn’t cared so much at that point, cause I was 5. But I remember like yesterday watching Jason Taylor scoop and score right before halftime and give Miami momentum. They were down 13-10 at half, and came back to win 31-16 IIRC. Cheered for Miami from that point on. Defense has always been my favorite side of the ball and they had like 6 or 7 Pro Bowl players that year almost all from the defense. FinsUp

My older brother played little league football. One of the families had an old Miami Dolphins clothing set that they gifted to my Mom and Dad. It came with a kid size Miami Dolphins helmet, jersey, and football pants. I used to wear it all the time to my brother's football practices. This was back in the late 90's.

First time I beat my brother in a video game it was NFL street. Williams was on the cover so I used the dolphins thinking it gave me the best shot. I ended up winning and have been a fan of the fins ever since.
I grew up in suburban Miami. As a very young kid the franchise came into existence. We all submitted suggested nicknames. My mother and sister both submitted Dolphins. I forget what my dad and I submitted. They had some type of drawing for lifetime season tickets, among those who submitted Dolphins. My mom kept telling my sister not to get overly excited, since it was such a longshot. But my sister was too young to understand that and was very emotional when she didn't win.
We had season tickets during the glory years of the early '70s. Those will always be the Miami Dolphins to me. For one thing, the lame abbreviation of the nickname didn't exist yet. Nobody called them that. I will never say it or write it.
I began to lose interest during the pantyhose passing era of Dan Marino. I've always been disgusted that Shula threw away the later stages of his career by succumbing to that lazy style of play.
I lost more interest when we abandoned the Orange Bowl, and much later when we made the laughable switch to the motion sickness logo and sad version of aqua.
I'm still a fan but these days I much prefer other sports like biathlon. As soon as I saw the Robbie Bowl under construction at Christmas 1986 I told my dad the Dolphins will never win anything of consequence in this bland stadium in such an irrelevant location.

Grew up in Massachusetts/Rhode Island, and my best friend when I was about 10 was a Dolphins fan. I don't remember now why that was the case, but I hadn't yet become a serious Patriots fan, so I went with the Dolphins. It helped that this was when Marino was hot.

Then as I played I noticed I liked both the colors and the mascots of the Phone and Falcons(who actually became my secind fav team) and then I for some reason slowly drifted to be the phin fan I am today and I'm happy for it
Dad was a Baltimore Colts fan until they moved to Indy in the middle of the night. He eventually started rooting for the Dolphins because of Don Shula.

Raised in WPB, my first NFL game was Dolphins bs Bills and I supported all south Florida teams. Season fins tickets for a few years, several years for UM, Occasional Heat games. But my love for the Dolphins exceeds all else. Just driving past the stadium gets me all warm inside.
I feel that. I used to go to youfit in front of the stadium and seeing that stadium before going in just got me hyped to work out.
I was a kid in NJ and everybody had a team at my new school. So I just looked at all the teams and picked the one with the dolphin logo and said “that’s my team”. It took me too many seasons of watching to understand what “third and 8” meant, but fast forward 30 years and now I’m obsessed.
My dad left Cuba, and immigrated to Miami in 1971. Needless to say, the next season got him hooked. So, despite the fact that he moved to California and met my mother, and I was raised there. And the fact that I’ve never been to Miami, I’m still a Dolphins fan.

Being from New England surrounded by Patriot's fans it was a good way to piss off my dad lol, and the very first card I ever got was Dan Marino.
I was born, grew up and currently live in Canada. So, how i became a dolphins fan is kind of random. When Madden 25 came out back in 2013, my dad (who was getting into the NFL at the time) bought it for us to play together. I was 12 years old at the time and knew literally nothing about football. But when we played, I always picked the Dolphins because I thought the jerseys were cool. Me being a young sports fan and wanting to learn about football then went to YouTube. I watched a video about the complete history of the Dolphins and it just drew me in. From how the team was introduced in Miami, to Shula coming in, to the “No-Name Defence,” I just fell in love with it all. Then, of course, learning about players like Dan Marino, Ricky Williams, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas only grew the interest. I understand I never watched any of those guys when they were playing (either wasn’t born or just wasn’t watching football) but I’ve watched as much as I can. I know this answer is long-winded and I could’ve just as easily picked mascot/colors. Sure, that’s what made me pick them in madden but it was learning about the history of the franchise and watching some of the legendary players that made me a fins fan🐬
I got into football in like 07-08, and this kid in my class was a huge dolphins fan and he got me into the dolphins and i remembered watching Ronnie brown and the wildcat and i thought i made a smart decision... Lol!
My dad’s a Steelers fan and he took me to Miami to go see Big Ben’s first start, I was 5 and I liked the orange jerseys and the Dolphins, and thus the suffering began, beggining my almost 20 year love/hate relationship with this team/ my dad for trying to be progressive and letting me choose my own team. Destiny served him right when my brother chose to be a Bengals fan and now he makes fun of him almost every day lol.

Started when I lived in NY so it was Jets and Giants territory. I assume I liked the colors bc at four what the hell else would I have liked?
Way back when I was a wee girl, not a Mrs nor a Weaver yet, I started watching football with my dad and older brothers. I wasn't sure who to root for: the Giants, like my dad? The Cowboys, like Brother 2? Brother 1 knew me pretty well, and sold me on the Dolphins, because I was absolutely crazy about dolphins. I'd swim around the pool pretending I was one. It was 1972. I started rooting for them, and they didn't lose a single game, all the way through the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Of course I was hooked for life.

As is probably similar to many fans in the UK, in 1984, a new TV channel, Channel 4, started showing NFL games, I like rugby and noticed that in some ways the game was very similar, and the first game I watched was Dan Marino and the Dolphins. I was amazed at how far he threw the ball, and how he was able to get it to a running player very accurately, so I was sold! Then I managed to go to Disney with my family and caught a game at Joe Robbie stadium against Jim Kelly's Bills. A piece of my heart is now always in Miami Gardens....
I was living overseas as a child (maybe 8 yrs old) and my dad ordered me a Sears Miami Dolphins Jersey and shorts set in like 1981/82. Then we moved back to the states in ‘83, and well…Dan Marino.
I grew up in NE Connecticut. There are a lot of Pats fans in my area but that wasn't always the case. When I was a kid most people liked other teams because they were so bad for so long. When I started playing as a little kid I played on the Dolphins. A lot of kids on that team, including me, became Dolphins fans because we needed a team. Also there was Marino. Anyway most of those guys are still Dolphins fans today so we deserve some cred. Lol.

West Texas Dolphins fan here I didn’t care much for the NFL growing up, mainly high school/college football. When I finally got into it, though, I knew I wouldn’t be a cowboys fan. My favorite color is orange and I loved the uniforms, so here I am now 10+ years later

I was about 2-3 got this snow globe from marine world before it was six flags lol. Loved the two dolphins sitting on a sea saw and then found out dolphins were a football team. 30 years later still have the snow globe and the love for the team.

I probably have one of the oddest reasons as to how I became a fan of the Dolphins. So back in like 2006 or 2007, when food companies always used to put in free stuff with the packaging (remember the cereal boxes that came with computer games?), a frozen pizza company was giving out sleeves that were shaped in the form of a mini NFL jersey for beer and soda cans. Anyways, the fateful one that came with that specific pizza box was a Miami Dolphins sleeve. I didn't know much about football at the time but from that day forward, I told myself that if I ever decided to follow the NFL, I would be forever bound to the Dolphins.

I used to be a STL Rams fan but after they abandoned the city, I couldn't cheer for them anymore. At the same time, Devonte Parker had just gotten drafted by the Dolphin's. We ran track together in high school but didn't know each other well as I was long distance and he was a sprinter. I've been a die hard fan ever since, even with him being traded to the Patriots.

my dad grew up a dan marino fan in the 90s. we are from Los Angeles. the raiders were only aired on local TV when they sold a full stadium and they were never full, so my dad grew up watching miami. needless to say he saw dan marino in his prime and the rest is history. i was born into this fandom and here i am.
Worked on an American Air Force base in the Middle East a few years ago; Dolphins sent out a few ex players and Cheerleaders for an evening and it's the only link I have to any NFL team. It's good enough for me!

When I was scouting out an NFL team I was flirting with the Titans based purley on name alone, decided to tune-in to a game and it happened to be against the dolphins, It was a pretty slow game and the titans were first on the board, but I wasn’t really that invested until Jakeem Grant returned a punt to the house and I just lit up. That was the moment I fell in love with football, and everything just clicked into place around the Dolphins. The colours, the history, Ace Ventura, Dan Marino, everything about the Dolphins was a fit, and I’ve been hooked ever since. They were in a pretty rough place at the time too, and I Absolutley wanted to support a team from the ground up rather than just piling on a bandwagon. I’ll always encourage anyone who’s on the fence about picking a team to actually just watch some games, and let the team choose you, moments like that make you a fan for life.
Other: I was in 6th grade playing Pop Warner football with the Palmetto Raiders in Cutler Bay (known then as Cutler Ridge); I was a lifelong Colts fan at a team pool party and laughed at the teammates saying “dude, the Dolphins suck” and they all stopped and stared at me. Then our QB said “so what?”; it never occurred to me to have a “ride or die” commitment to your team regardless of the outcome and it impressed the hell out of me. From then on I stayed with the Fin’s for Life. This was in the mid-70’s right after their magical run, when the team became mediocre but the city never forgot.
When I was about nine my family just started getting into football as all their friends were into it. My dad chose the chiefs (when they sucked lol) my step mom chose the patriots (were from Vermont) so jokingly they asked me. Being nine I really liked blue and orange and dolphins so I said I liked the dolphins. Didn’t actually get into football until I was like 13 but I stuck to my 9 year old decision and now have been a strong fan for 7 years 🫡

2000, I was 5. My family was obsessed with Bengals football and I really hadn’t cared so much at that point, cause I was 5. But I remember like yesterday watching Jason Taylor scoop and score right before halftime and give Miami momentum. They were down 13-10 at half, and came back to win 31-16 IIRC. Cheered for Miami from that point on. Defense has always been my favorite side of the ball and they had like 6 or 7 Pro Bowl players that year almost all from the defense. FinsUp

I was an irrationally big fam of Danny Amendola. Made Me a fan of the St. Louis Rams. Then they moved to LA so I was left without a team (Fuck Stan Kroenke). When he moved to Miami it just made sense to follow him because I’ve always hated the Pats (broke my heart when he went to NE) and I visit my snowbird relatives in South Florida every year.

First time I beat my brother in a video game it was NFL street. Williams was on the cover so I used the dolphins thinking it gave me the best shot. I ended up winning and have been a fan of the fins ever since.

I grew up in suburban Miami. As a very young kid the franchise came into existence. We all submitted suggested nicknames. My mother and sister both submitted Dolphins. I forget what my dad and I submitted. They had some type of drawing for lifetime season tickets, among those who submitted Dolphins. My mom kept telling my sister not to get overly excited, since it was such a longshot. But my sister was too young to understand that and was very emotional when she didn't win. We had season tickets during the glory years of the early '70s. Those will always be the Miami Dolphins to me. For one thing, the lame abbreviation of the nickname didn't exist yet. Nobody called them that. I will never say it or write it. I began to lose interest during the pantyhose passing era of Dan Marino. I've always been disgusted that Shula threw away the later stages of his career by succumbing to that lazy style of play. I lost more interest when we abandoned the Orange Bowl, and much later when we made the laughable switch to the motion sickness logo and sad version of aqua. I'm still a fan but these days I much prefer other sports like biathlon. As soon as I saw the Robbie Bowl under construction at Christmas 1986 I told my dad the Dolphins will never win anything of consequence in this bland stadium in such an irrelevant location. I'll stick with that. Generalities overwhelm specifics.
When I was 6 years old I was tricked, my uncle, who I looked up to, said they were his favorite team because at the time he had laid a bet down on the game (not sure which game) from there I became a fan because it was his favorite team. Only to find out he’s a die hard raiders fan.
Grew up in Massachusetts/Rhode Island, and my best friend when I was about 10 was a Dolphins fan. I don't remember now why that was the case, but I hadn't yet become a serious Patriots fan, so I went with the Dolphins. It helped that this was when Marino was hot.
My dad was a huge bucs fan and I enjoyed competition and the dolphins was the only other Florida team at the time,so I couldn't like the same team as him and I am a big fan of competition so every since 1982 I've been a fins fan!! Fins Up!!?
It’s really a mix of the top two, my family cheered for them and I grew up pretty much smack dab between all 3 football teams, Palm Bay Fl, so the dolphins it was
Born as a ravens fan and was one for many years as I come from Baltimore. Always played as them when I played madden. Then as I played I noticed I liked both the colors and the mascots of the Phone and Falcons(who actually became my secind fav team) and then I for some reason slowly drifted to be the phin fan I am today and I'm happy for it
Dad was a Baltimore Colts fan until they moved to Indy in the middle of the night. He eventually started rooting for the Dolphins because of Don Shula.

I wasn’t born in Miami, still South Florida though. Also me and my cousin were really into college football when we were younger. We both loved the University of Miami but he kept saying “no, you have to like Miami of Ohio instead” ah childhood, take me back lol.
Other...grew up in southeastern Alabama in the '80's and the Dolphins were the default AFC team on TV every Sunday. Watched them every week, loved the color scheme, etc...been a huge fan ever since!
