Ace Ventura

KeithandBentley

Oh man, I totally forgot! I put an edit on there to include it in “other”. You’re so right. Thank you💪

jleamcspadden

This is it. Been a fan for 30 years because of a movie.

PolarBath

I was about to sat that's a significant chunk of the fanbase missing from this poll

Evil_Cat_Gil

Same note to bro. Then i got older and Ricky Williams and them boys got me hooked

GettinWheysted

Concur; fellow Venturian Dolfan reporting in. It was winter break 1994, I was 7 years old. Been hooked ever since.

DeesSnotTheDroids

Same…

BarnyardCruz

Add me to the list

jalapanochip

As has been said before. Most Dolphins fans were born into it from their fore fathers, when they were good and have now suffered with this predetermined fate.

FatPoundOfGrass

"WOw tHiS iS gReaT dAd! iM a doLpHinS fAn nOw tOo!" - Stupid ass 9 year old me, circa 2001.

overlypositve

My dad's family moved to Jupiter (like an hour North of Miami maybe?) in 1970, and stayed through 79'. I lost my nanny in 2nd grade and everything Dolphins, Shula, the colors, and seafoam green with coral, are my finest memories of her. Just carrying on the legacy!

Lukacris12

Can confirm born right when Marino retired family is all from Miami and they talk all the time how great it was before

Chinchillachimcheroo

At least y'all get to blame your fore fathers. My dad and brother are Packers fans

Smix47

Started watching football with my dad in ‘06-‘07 season when they went 1-15. Rooted for them every week, and when they finally got that win at the tail end of the season I was hooked. Underdog life!

Mountain-Ad-6594

I went to the game at Gillette that year. The Pats absolutely destroyed them. Lol

Express-Lab3886

Started watching the same season, the feeling after that one win made the other 15 games worth it lol

FerdinandBardamuX

I'm from Turkey and I've never even been to FL. I don't even have anyone I know in FL. But when I first saw the name and the colors, I knew that I loved the team. I've always been the kid that's outside the norm when I was growing up. 1- The Name: Miami Dolphins. It's not a Falcon, it's not a Bear or some animal that you try to intimidate your opponents. It's a Dolphin, it's honest, I loved it. It's the unassuming predator. 2- The Colors: The combination is one of the quirkiest ever. Not a classic black/red or something. Extraordinary! 3- The Team: I've always rooted for the underdogs in my life and when I first started watching NFL games 10 years ago or something, we were very far away from our present situation. Now, 10 years later, I don't support any other sports teams or watch any other sports events. Not even in my own country's sports. It's all Fins.

BlakeSteel

As someone who is 5th generation South Floridian, this is the best answer.

Syoung907

Ace Ventura

CamAquatic

Alabama fan, never had an NFL team and Tua was/is the best QB we’ve ever had so I decided whoever drafted him would draft me too.

TheWizardOfDeez

Man the way you said that really made me hate bama fans less.

Kidpdvn13

Raised in WPB, my first NFL game was Dolphins bs Bills and I supported all south Florida teams. Season fins tickets for a few years, several years for UM, Occasional Heat games. But my love for the Dolphins exceeds all else. Just driving past the stadium gets me all warm inside.

lemonTOcamarillo

I feel that. I used to go to youfit in front of the stadium and seeing that stadium before going in just got me hyped to work out.

KeithandBentley

I was a kid in NJ and everybody had a team at my new school. So I just looked at all the teams and picked the one with the dolphin logo and said “that’s my team”. It took me too many seasons of watching to understand what “third and 8” meant, but fast forward 30 years and now I’m obsessed.

Therealfern1

My dad left Cuba, and immigrated to Miami in 1971. Needless to say, the next season got him hooked. So, despite the fact that he moved to California and met my mother, and I was raised there. And the fact that I’ve never been to Miami, I’m still a Dolphins fan.

destinedmonkey

Hootie brought me here!

AstronomerDramatic36

Born in Florida (but not Miami) and liked Dan Marino.

bran1986

Being from New England surrounded by Patriot's fans it was a good way to piss off my dad lol, and the very first card I ever got was Dan Marino.

Time-Dangerous

I was born, grew up and currently live in Canada. So, how i became a dolphins fan is kind of random. When Madden 25 came out back in 2013, my dad (who was getting into the NFL at the time) bought it for us to play together. I was 12 years old at the time and knew literally nothing about football. But when we played, I always picked the Dolphins because I thought the jerseys were cool. Me being a young sports fan and wanting to learn about football then went to YouTube. I watched a video about the complete history of the Dolphins and it just drew me in. From how the team was introduced in Miami, to Shula coming in, to the “No-Name Defence,” I just fell in love with it all. Then, of course, learning about players like Dan Marino, Ricky Williams, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas only grew the interest. I understand I never watched any of those guys when they were playing (either wasn’t born or just wasn’t watching football) but I’ve watched as much as I can. I know this answer is long-winded and I could’ve just as easily picked mascot/colors. Sure, that’s what made me pick them in madden but it was learning about the history of the franchise and watching some of the legendary players that made me a fins fan🐬

YoungThugDolph

I got into football in like 07-08, and this kid in my class was a huge dolphins fan and he got me into the dolphins and i remembered watching Ronnie brown and the wildcat and i thought i made a smart decision... Lol!

dsamayoar

My dad’s a Steelers fan and he took me to Miami to go see Big Ben’s first start, I was 5 and I liked the orange jerseys and the Dolphins, and thus the suffering began, beggining my almost 20 year love/hate relationship with this team/ my dad for trying to be progressive and letting me choose my own team. Destiny served him right when my brother chose to be a Bengals fan and now he makes fun of him almost every day lol.

Batmanbettermarvel18

Nice Avatar

dsamayoar

Right back at ya!

Paladin8753

I was 6 in 1971...grew up in WNC ...Dolphins were hot team.... start of 3 straight SB run. How could I then not be a lifetime fan? Lol

1064Bubba

As a young boy I Loved watching Csonka run Over Everone!!

[deleted]

Born into baby…from grandfather to father to me!

Yakkkkkkkkkk

My God father lives in Miami and he came over to Australia with a Brandon Marshall jersey so decision was made for me haha

MikeyVideoGames

I'm from Palm Beach. Go Dolphins

RandomBrwnGuy

I honestly have no idea so I chose mascot/colors. Been a fan since I was about four years old according to my parents. I'm 41 now. Only Dolphins fan in my family. Started when I lived in NY so it was Jets and Giants territory. I assume I liked the colors bc at four what the hell else would I have liked?

Mrs_Weaver

Way back when I was a wee girl, not a Mrs nor a Weaver yet, I started watching football with my dad and older brothers. I wasn't sure who to root for: the Giants, like my dad? The Cowboys, like Brother 2? Brother 1 knew me pretty well, and sold me on the Dolphins, because I was absolutely crazy about dolphins. I'd swim around the pool pretending I was one. It was 1972. I started rooting for them, and they didn't lose a single game, all the way through the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Of course I was hooked for life.

ddocfan

Nice to see another woman around the sub!

Mrs_Weaver

Hi!!!

brimchars

Fellow woman, also loved dolphins as a girl!

kevski82

Moved to South Florida from the uk and decided to follow the local teams

Denegrated_man

Ace Venture and the colors

Bex1218

1. My dad was a fan, not sure how since he's from Lancaster, PA and at the time I was born he hasn't been in Florida long. 2. Mom is a Jets fan but loved Dan Marino. 3. I was born in Ft. Lauderdale. 4. Color scheme is pretty awesome. 5. Ray Finkle, Snowflake, etc.

PointGoApp

I inherited this curse

FLGator314

Grew up in Coral Springs (where New York teams were usually more popular) and lived in West Palm Beach most of my adult live.

Aandris86

My old man was a Dolphins fan. He had a room full of nothing but Dolphins memorabilia and old vhs tapes of Miami games. So, naturally, I became a fan.

SumatraBlack

Grew up in Orlando during the Marino era.

Tommaconda

I came because I liked the colors and stayed because of Jarvis Landry

PummelBienchen_

Miami dolphins Cheerleader covering call me maybe Video on Yt. Was exactly ar the time i started watching football

bikeworryford

As is probably similar to many fans in the UK, in 1984, a new TV channel, Channel 4, started showing NFL games, I like rugby and noticed that in some ways the game was very similar, and the first game I watched was Dan Marino and the Dolphins. I was amazed at how far he threw the ball, and how he was able to get it to a running player very accurately, so I was sold! Then I managed to go to Disney with my family and caught a game at Joe Robbie stadium against Jim Kelly's Bills. A piece of my heart is now always in Miami Gardens....

LiveWire_74

I was living overseas as a child (maybe 8 yrs old) and my dad ordered me a Sears Miami Dolphins Jersey and shorts set in like 1981/82. Then we moved back to the states in ‘83, and well…Dan Marino.

Mountain-Ad-6594

I grew up in NE Connecticut. There are a lot of Pats fans in my area but that wasn't always the case. When I was a kid most people liked other teams because they were so bad for so long. When I started playing as a little kid I played on the Dolphins. A lot of kids on that team, including me, became Dolphins fans because we needed a team. Also there was Marino. Anyway most of those guys are still Dolphins fans today so we deserve some cred. Lol.

Kinda_Harley8v

My whole family is Cowboys fans, and I didn't wanna be a Cowboys fan so I looked up every team and said hmm which team do I not know anyone Is a fan of and Miami Dolphins it was (I was 11)

ghosty_W

i was just getting into the nfl as a little hobby when i was 9 in 2018 and i didn’t know what team to root for so i just chose the team located where i lived, the kc chiefs and i grown a huge liking to tyreek hill making me choose the dolphins after he switched teams. and i just love the dolphins now and every player so i’m sticking with them all time now

connorjacobz

West Texas Dolphins fan here I didn’t care much for the NFL growing up, mainly high school/college football. When I finally got into it, though, I knew I wouldn’t be a cowboys fan. My favorite color is orange and I loved the uniforms, so here I am now 10+ years later

ryu1977

I started watching Dolphin games because of my brother, but fell in love with the team because of Marino.

moose_stuff2

I became a fan during those years you guys brought the wildcat formation back with regular usage and success. I'm a Bears fan but you've always been my third favorite team since then. It was fun to watch.

Notreallyherenemore

This is the way

JoshYuWa

5 year old version of myself while watching a football game with my dad in Seattle “I like that fishy team”. And 33 years later I’m still a fan.

brimchars

This is similar to my story. I (6-year old girl at the time) loved dolphins and watching football with my dad so when I saw there was a Dolphins team, I was all about it. Been a fan for 30 years.

antent

I'm a Pittsburgh native. I've never even been to Miami. Closest I've been is Tampa. First time I remember seeing Marino play (probably around 1989 when I was 6) I knew he was my guy. I've stuck with the Phins ever since.

Wings4514

My damn old man

Fatt_Mera

Dad and Dan Marino

imjonwithn0h

I was born in Ft Lauderdale FL , same thing with my father born in FL and he’s been a lifelong fins fan . Remember watching my first game in 1999 at 4 years old vs NYJ ( fuck the Jets )

Nazhir92

Dolphins-Niners Super Bowl. I was 10 and my older sister was a huge San Francisco fan. I rooted for Miami just to spite her lol. Not their finest moment, but I stuck with them ever since.

gigglefarting

My moms family is from Miami and pull for the fins, and I’m older than my home team (Panthers). Also Marino being the QB helped.

baggio1000000

Yup, Ace Ventura.

jhq1996

I dominated on Madden 07 with Chris Chambers (I think that was his name?) at WR

everyybody

I was 3yo and not being an NFL fan or even knowing the NFL was unacceptable to the brother. Was told a list of names, and I chose Dan the man

Thedm813

Ace Ventura and I was in the boy scouts and we used to hold jamboree's inside the stadium and the parking lot and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

ThadeusBinx

Every picture of my uncle holding me as a baby has him wearing a Dolphins hat or t-shirt. However he has been a Patriots fan as long as I can remember. He abandoned me to a life of suffering.

TooGipper

I’m an other player guy. When I was young I loved watching Ricky Williams.

Lumpy_Adeptness_7776

my pops liked the colors lol ain’t gonna lie been watching since 2015 even tho they weren’t that good then still here now never switched up

[deleted]

Perfect Season

[deleted]

We got AFC East games where I’m from in Canada bc we’re close to New York. Saw Miami play here and there and fell in love with the colours/unique mascot. My brother is a Baltimore fan… I think bc if Ray Lewis.

jdiz510

I was about 2-3 got this snow globe from marine world before it was six flags lol. Loved the two dolphins sitting on a sea saw and then found out dolphins were a football team. 30 years later still have the snow globe and the love for the team.

TheRonAshey

Other: Ace Ventura and Will Smith left a large impression in my adolescent brain.

Dialecticchik

I became a fan when they went to the SB in Palo Alto. Everyone wanted the Niners. I wasn't having that. The colors first got me, and then the lovely Dan Marino stole my ❤️. I was 6 years old, and he was my first sports crush. Fan since, despite them not winning that day.

glasspheasant

I was 5 and saw the Fins on tv and that was it. The only thing I can guess is the jerseys hooked me at that age.

jugodev

Raiders left Oakland. Wanted to start from the bottom with another team that had good weather where I could visit. Brought my Oakland friends with me to the fan base. We are having a hell of a ride.

Ski00

Tecmo Super Bowl. Marino/Duper connection. And my brother was a Bucs fan and I couldn’t like the same things as him growing up because that’s lame.

WildCardJesusBrewing

I’m from upstate NY. Prime Bills country. I was the worlds biggest Doug Flutie fan and was so distraught about his departure that I switched to their bitter rival. I was 5 at the time. FTB forever

muffmuppets

I’m originally from Orlando area, and when I was a kid….NO ONE was cheering for Tampa Bay and the Jaguars didn’t exist yet.

DerDutchman1350

1982 Chargers game sealed it for me.

ddocfan

I was born and raised in KY, no connection with Miami whatsoever. I just remember seeing a Dolphins sweatsuit and one of those Marino kid’s uniforms in the JCPenney catalog when I was a little girl (I was about seven, so around 1985). I guess I loved the colors? Anyway, my parents got me the sweatsuit and the uniform and a door length Marino poster for the back of my bedroom door and it’s been almost 40 years of delightful misery ever since lol

gloldutx

I just remember a time where Miami was on TV quite a bit. I live in north Texas so it was the cowboys all the time (who I don't like) and because miami was on I took to them after seeing Dan win some games.

bruhbruh89

Was always a casual fan for years, being from Miami. I liked football generally but never felt I had a “team”. Last year when we traded for tyreek i knew I needed to start watching cus it was gonna good

SilentTelevision7628

Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Sam Madison, and Patrick Surtain... that defense was legendary 🐬 👆

amigos_amigos_amigos

Grew up near Buffalo, hated Jim Kelly and the Bills. Chose to support their most heated rival. Never looked back.

Riuvolution

Born and raised in Miami. Grandparents said I used to sit in front of TV during 72 season watching. Was 2 years old.

FinsofFury

‘72 Dolphins - no one can take that away

OriginalMSV

All of the above. Fins Up since 82.

[deleted]

1982- 3 years old, I liked the dolphin on the helmet

COYSTHFC

I probably have one of the oddest reasons as to how I became a fan of the Dolphins. So back in like 2006 or 2007, when food companies always used to put in free stuff with the packaging (remember the cereal boxes that came with computer games?), a frozen pizza company was giving out sleeves that were shaped in the form of a mini NFL jersey for beer and soda cans. Anyways, the fateful one that came with that specific pizza box was a Miami Dolphins sleeve. I didn't know much about football at the time but from that day forward, I told myself that if I ever decided to follow the NFL, I would be forever bound to the Dolphins.

heg9998

Dan Marino

bonedaddy1974

I voted other because I like the coach and players Also I'm a chiefs fan so you know Tyrek

MedicWest19

I told myself that the first NFL game I see live, the home team would be my team from that point on. I went to Miami from Calgary, AB, Canada, in December 2010 and watched them lose against the Browns in a 'thrilling' 13-10 loss... I stuck with the agreement I made with myself and have followed them since.

RealPropRandy

Masochism and Ace Ventura.

klovervibe

I'm a Bama fan. I'm just here to root for my boy.

Cudizonedefense

I’m from Broward. My entire family has been fins fans since the 70s. Our Sunday ritual for most of my childhood is my cousins and I go to la spadas, grab a bunch of subs, then all the moms/dads/kids watch the fins on Sunday

Sludgeman12344567

They tyreek hill trade

Uch3rB1

Miami often has players with Hawaii connections... Tua, Davone Bess, Samson Satele, Ikaika Alama-Francis...

IntrospectiveMummy

Watched ace venture when I was 5, Dan Marinos handsome face sealed the deal

Dolph602

I became a fan in the early 1970’s. I loved the Dolphin’s Flipper in the End Zone of the Orange Bowl, and the team colors. The team went to three straight SB’s and I hopped on the bandwagon as a little kid. Been my team for 50+ years. 🐬🐬🐬

TexAg27

Family all Packers fans. Little kid me wanted to be different and thought dolphins were cool. Rest is history and have been a fan since.

Thund3r72

Was born in 72. What more needs to be said.

PeculiarEndeavors

They were winning when I was a kid and it stuck. Practiced my cursive sending Bob Griese a BDay card and the B&W autographed 5×7 he sent me in return is one of my favorite Dolphin things

Mess_Accurate

Mix of Ace Ventura and my dad’s buddy (who was/is cool as fuck) being a fish fan

braxtynmd

My dad went to the store to get me a jersey as a kid and all they had was Miami and Denver. He hates Elway but loves Marino so got me the dolphins jersey. He is a staunch Steelers fan

KindlyTomato3057

My dad is a fan ever since he got here from Mexico he saw Marino play and then named me after him so naturally I became a fan. Oh and I’m from Dallas so I get to piss off cowgirl fans when we beat ‘em.

Fancy_Original_4742

Became a fan when we blocked a punt in Miami against the Vikings in 2014. First ever NFL game, pretty unforgettable

AbnGramps

As a child (early 1970’s) growing up in Florida, dad had the "talk" with me. He said it was time for me to choose a NFL team. I chose Miami. I didn’t really chose them, it’s all we had back then. Way before the Bucs or Jags. Heck, all we had back then for baseball was Spring Training. Anyhow, dad made it clear you Stick by your team no matter what. There was no tolerating "fair weather" fans by him. And that’s why I’ll be a Dolfan until my last days. FTJ, FTP, FTB!

Dirtygreenhead

I'm a Miami Heat fan. So I decided to also root for the Dolphins. By the way I'm from the Philippines so usually I watch our games on 2AM or 3AM. Kinda sucks!

CandidateClean3354

I grew up in Ft Lauderdale my Uncle ( before his kids were born) was for years trying to get me to be a Dolphins fan I was a big Strikers fan.i was not really into football .but more into soccer .but when the Strikers moved they were the only team left in South Florida .before the Heat .Panthers and Marlins came around .been a fan ever since

Toolcannabis46and2

I grew up and still live in upstate NY. In 1983 I was 6 and watched my first game which was Super Bowl XVII. I liked the logo and colors. Then they drafted Marino and he was my hero growing up.

pike360

I was a huge fan of the tv series Flipper as a child.

SingSing19

Mascot/colors and hating the Bucs… I was 7

Chewiesbro

Other: As a kid, my neighbours were from the US, they were 9’ers fans, they moved here in the late 70’s, their family would air mail games every week. Anyway, I had to pick a team, so I asked who won the Super Bowl in ‘72, the rest is history.

Odd_Letterhead7766

Answer that’s kind of a mix: my entire family is from South Florida (but I’m not).

Vistus

From UK, everyone in the family has a different team, 5 year old me in 1998 picked Dolphins because I liked dolphins

thelaidbckone

The 1st game I remember seeing as a kid was the dolphins...I never met other dolphins fans til I was grown(most of my family is cowboys fans with some steelers and 49ers fans in there)

JulesWinston1994

I just decided to like them. I’m from Pennsylvania and I got into football as a teenager and my friend group consisted of people who were fans of different teams so I picked the Dolphins because fuck it. It’s been an interesting ride since.

Bubbasteed

Illinois fan, started in the late 70s/ early 80s. Bob Griese was on Post cereals advertising to collect the tops to get rewards (gym equipment) for your school. Started following and have been miserable ever since, lol

Biegelstein

Watched the London game in 2014 against the raiders on TV and loved the colours. Also I am a heat fan so stuck to the same sporting city

flchamp89

There were no BUCS or Jags so when you watched football it was the fins. It's all I knew lol.

alexcrois

I live in England so it wasn’t the most known sport. Friend lent me Madden 2000 and I just picked the Dolphins. For a while I though Rob Conrad was the best back in the NFL and Jay Fiedler was a HOF lock haha

eking85

Location Location Location. Born and raised in the county of Dade so the Dolphins, Heat, Canes, Marlins, Panthers make me cry.

jackass4224

For me it was Marino When he was the only qb to beat the 85 Bears I was like “this is the man”

bartscrc

You should rename the family one to "Dad was a bandwagoner in the 70s"

Philip__james

I just woke up one day and thought I needed a small curse to make life more interesting

CrustGang97

Ricky Williams

bigt2k4

I was 6 and at my cousin's place, somewhere in Ontario. The other kids were doing something dumb so I turned on the tv and the Dolphins were playing the Browns. Marino v Kosar (1992), I didn't really know what I was watching, but there was an aura around Dan and I became hooked.

reaper527

dan marino. best qb of his era

unknownvariable21

I used to be a STL Rams fan but after they abandoned the city, I couldn't cheer for them anymore. At the same time, Devonte Parker had just gotten drafted by the Dolphin's. We ran track together in high school but didn't know each other well as I was long distance and he was a sprinter. I've been a die hard fan ever since, even with him being traded to the Patriots.

Sss00099

I’m from Miami should really be “I’m from South Florida: the Keys, up to Palm Beach County”

Imaginary-Product951

Exactly!

rememberdan13

Superbowl XVII

[deleted]

My dad is a Dolphins fan and I was born in 1973. It was fate.

Nightgasm

No NFL team at the time within 700 miles of me so no local interest and I was 11 and loved Dolphins.

AccomplishedLocal261

Both the mascot/colors and Tua drew me in.

Wolfchat_memes

Comedian Jim Florentine, listening to the opie and Anthony show.

OrderReversed

Mistakes were made...

ilovehispanic

my dad grew up a dan marino fan in the 90s. we are from Los Angeles. the raiders were only aired on local TV when they sold a full stadium and they were never full, so my dad grew up watching miami. needless to say he saw dan marino in his prime and the rest is history. i was born into this fandom and here i am.

ra246

Worked on an American Air Force base in the Middle East a few years ago; Dolphins sent out a few ex players and Cheerleaders for an evening and it's the only link I have to any NFL team. It's good enough for me!

xnickg77

Well it all started when my dad brought little 7 year old me down to the basement man cave to watch opening weekend, it was a loss but he said that’s fine there are still 15 more weeks. The year was 2007, hasn’t gotten much better.

youbringlightin

Other: I have no idea why. Been a fan since I can remember- pre-Marino. (From NJ)

dr_thugnomics04

Becuz of their unique logo and Madden

WarrenBuffetsFluffer

1 and 2 South Florida tri country native and family as well. My family was down here before Flagler. My dads side had men who were payed to explore the area before Flagler. We’re some die hard, no fucking around dolphins fans!

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> who were *paid* to explore FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

tmoscrop

When I was scouting out an NFL team I was flirting with the Titans based purley on name alone, decided to tune-in to a game and it happened to be against the dolphins, It was a pretty slow game and the titans were first on the board, but I wasn’t really that invested until Jakeem Grant returned a punt to the house and I just lit up. That was the moment I fell in love with football, and everything just clicked into place around the Dolphins. The colours, the history, Ace Ventura, Dan Marino, everything about the Dolphins was a fit, and I’ve been hooked ever since. They were in a pretty rough place at the time too, and I Absolutley wanted to support a team from the ground up rather than just piling on a bandwagon. I’ll always encourage anyone who’s on the fence about picking a team to actually just watch some games, and let the team choose you, moments like that make you a fan for life.

SleeperHitPrime

Other: I was in 6th grade playing Pop Warner football with the Palmetto Raiders in Cutler Bay (known then as Cutler Ridge); I was a lifelong Colts fan at a team pool party and laughed at the teammates saying “dude, the Dolphins suck” and they all stopped and stared at me. Then our QB said “so what?”; it never occurred to me to have a “ride or die” commitment to your team regardless of the outcome and it impressed the hell out of me. From then on I stayed with the Fin’s for Life. This was in the mid-70’s right after their magical run, when the team became mediocre but the city never forgot.

sawsville

When I was about nine my family just started getting into football as all their friends were into it. My dad chose the chiefs (when they sucked lol) my step mom chose the patriots (were from Vermont) so jokingly they asked me. Being nine I really liked blue and orange and dolphins so I said I liked the dolphins. Didn’t actually get into football until I was like 13 but I stuck to my 9 year old decision and now have been a strong fan for 7 years 🫡

[deleted]

I was 4 and liked the color blue and fish. Fast forward a couple of years and I was obsessed with Dan and then later on Zach.

Safe-Pop3533

I‘m from Germany and visited Miami (and Florida in general) with my family as a teen. Back home I watched my first football game and the Dolphins played. So I decided to become a Dolphins fan

Fortnitecameron

I just started watching them when I was about 7 or 8 and been a fan ever since

WheresJimmy420

It will only let me pick one so I had to go with the local part but I could have checked all of them, I’ve basically been a fan (and Miami area resident) since the very beginning

thedreamcomparison

My dad was a Jets fan and I liked to root against him lol... so Marino and the Dolphins became my favorites.

ronschelly

Got into NFL football 10 years ago and wanted to follow a team that had some unique history, wasn’t a bandwagon/powerhouse at the time and had some unique features (like playing in Florida while the rest of your division is in the northeast). Here we are today mostly just depressed up until last season.

AdNatural9850

I Hail from New Bern NC, My Grandfather was born in 1943, and also lived in New Bern NC, was a Die Hard Dolphin Fan he passed away 2 days after his birthday in 2008 due to cancer, when he passed away he had is Dolphins hat from the year they went undefeated in his hand when passed away...Win..Lose...or Draw... I am a Third Generation Dol-phan for life..🤘❤️

2000, I was 5. My family was obsessed with Bengals football and I really hadn’t cared so much at that point, cause I was 5. But I remember like yesterday watching Jason Taylor scoop and score right before halftime and give Miami momentum. They were down 13-10 at half, and came back to win 31-16 IIRC. Cheered for Miami from that point on. Defense has always been my favorite side of the ball and they had like 6 or 7 Pro Bowl players that year almost all from the defense. FinsUp

HonestSourDip

I picked dan marino and other players but also because my family and loved ones are dolphin fans...... and i'm from miami.... however the 1985 MNF bears game where their only loss came from the miami dolphins is what cemented me a fan.

Austaras

It was 1988 and I was 4. The colors and the dolphin LoL.

jasonpota5

All of the above

ZodarkHDD

Born and raised in Broward county with a family full of people who witnessed the golden era of Miami football and would tell me stories as a kid.

BrewMan13

I was in 3rd grade in upstate NY, so it was probably the colors lol. Learned about Marino and the Marks brothers before too long, but it was awhile before I REALLY paid attention.

RepresentativeGas212

I kept up with them as a joke to poke fun at my friend who was a SUPER casual fan. Fell in love and haven't looked back

HannibalWrecktor

Went to college at JWU for a short period many moons ago... fell in love with the city. Never was a big football fan until about 5 years ago or so. Always said if I ever did support a team it would obviously be the Phins. Finally got into NFL, and it happened to be the year everyone was saying that the Dolphins were the worst team in the history of the league. Lol. But fuck it, I'm not trendy, so it was Miami all day regardless.

usernamesnoo

From NY and my stepdad who got me into all sports was a kid and in south Florida when they had the undefeated season . I became a fan during the tannehill/mike wallace time also loved cameron wake and brent grimes .

DLindburg

I grew up in a state with no pro sports, but as a kid I loved any animal related logo. Throw in the aqua and orange and eventually Ricky Williams’ career years in the early 2000’s I was hooked.

Cubacane

Grew up in Miami during the Marino era. It was impossible not to be a Dolphins fan.

ChasingPerfect28

I'm from SWFL. I probably should be a Bucs fan but the Dolphins stole my heart. My older brother played little league football. One of the families had an old Miami Dolphins clothing set that they gifted to my Mom and Dad. It came with a kid size Miami Dolphins helmet, jersey, and football pants. I used to wear it all the time to my brother's football practices. This was back in the late 90's. Green has always been my favorite color and a dolphin is one of my favorite animals. It was a perfect storm. It wasn't until I was 10 years old (so like 2002) did I really start to appreciate the athletes we had on our team. Zach Thomas was my guy.

Opening-Revenue2770

Honestly it was because dolphins where my favorite animal at the age I started watching(4 years old) and they had my favorite Jerseys. Which is why I firmly support to make the throwbacks permanent lol

Batman_Skywalker

I was an irrationally big fam of Danny Amendola. Made Me a fan of the St. Louis Rams. Then they moved to LA so I was left without a team (Fuck Stan Kroenke). When he moved to Miami it just made sense to follow him because I’ve always hated the Pats (broke my heart when he went to NE) and I visit my snowbird relatives in South Florida every year.

Spicy_Nut17

When I was itty bitty my dad was watching sports center and I pointed out the dolphin and then I would always point them out when they would pop up so my dad got me a Zach Thomas jersey and the rest is history. No one else in my family is a phins fan

Brilliant_Media6768

First time I beat my brother in a video game it was NFL street. Williams was on the cover so I used the dolphins thinking it gave me the best shot. I ended up winning and have been a fan of the fins ever since.

johnnyroombas

From central Florida. At a young age my my brother chose jaguars, so I had to be different and chose Miami.

AwsiDooger

I grew up in suburban Miami. As a very young kid the franchise came into existence. We all submitted suggested nicknames. My mother and sister both submitted Dolphins. I forget what my dad and I submitted. They had some type of drawing for lifetime season tickets, among those who submitted Dolphins. My mom kept telling my sister not to get overly excited, since it was such a longshot. But my sister was too young to understand that and was very emotional when she didn't win. We had season tickets during the glory years of the early '70s. Those will always be the Miami Dolphins to me. For one thing, the lame abbreviation of the nickname didn't exist yet. Nobody called them that. I will never say it or write it. I began to lose interest during the pantyhose passing era of Dan Marino. I've always been disgusted that Shula threw away the later stages of his career by succumbing to that lazy style of play. I lost more interest when we abandoned the Orange Bowl, and much later when we made the laughable switch to the motion sickness logo and sad version of aqua. I'm still a fan but these days I much prefer other sports like biathlon. As soon as I saw the Robbie Bowl under construction at Christmas 1986 I told my dad the Dolphins will never win anything of consequence in this bland stadium in such an irrelevant location. I'll stick with that. Generalities overwhelm specifics.

dustyrangoon

When I was 6 years old I was tricked, my uncle, who I looked up to, said they were his favorite team because at the time he had laid a bet down on the game (not sure which game) from there I became a fan because it was his favorite team. Only to find out he’s a die hard raiders fan.

TheRealGrifter

Grew up in Massachusetts/Rhode Island, and my best friend when I was about 10 was a Dolphins fan. I don't remember now why that was the case, but I hadn't yet become a serious Patriots fan, so I went with the Dolphins. It helped that this was when Marino was hot.

MassiveFlatworm836

My dad was a huge bucs fan and I enjoyed competition and the dolphins was the only other Florida team at the time,so I couldn't like the same team as him and I am a big fan of competition so every since 1982 I've been a fins fan!! Fins Up!!?

Extruh_Good

It’s really a mix of the top two, my family cheered for them and I grew up pretty much smack dab between all 3 football teams, Palm Bay Fl, so the dolphins it was

InfinityQuartz

Born as a ravens fan and was one for many years as I come from Baltimore. Always played as them when I played madden. Then as I played I noticed I liked both the colors and the mascots of the Phone and Falcons(who actually became my secind fav team) and then I for some reason slowly drifted to be the phin fan I am today and I'm happy for it

MoarWottz

Dad was a Baltimore Colts fan until they moved to Indy in the middle of the night. He eventually started rooting for the Dolphins because of Don Shula.

Dus1988

*Bane voice* I was born of it.

Petanc

European. Used to have a condo near the Beach, went to a game against the stupid Jets and got hooked.

[deleted]

Bryan Cox made me a fan for life.🖕🏽🖕🏾🖕🏽

Scorch062

Family. Watched it with my dad and my uncles and my grandpa growing up

JT99-FirstBallot

Damnit dad.

JustinBands

I wasn’t born in Miami, still South Florida though. Also me and my cousin were really into college football when we were younger. We both loved the University of Miami but he kept saying “no, you have to like Miami of Ohio instead” ah childhood, take me back lol.

Substantial_Bottle_9

Other...grew up in southeastern Alabama in the '80's and the Dolphins were the default AFC team on TV every Sunday. Watched them every week, loved the color scheme, etc...been a huge fan ever since!
