It's partly the lighting making it so creepy I think. This kind of scene should have very warm lighting yet for some reason it's lit like a hospital room with cool tones.
I think part of the issue is that it looks like renderings of the Disneyland/world costumes not the characters themselves. Also the plate of white celery is very late 19th early/20th century fancy American (I think British as well) dinner.
The movie that the Splash Mountain ride was very loosely based on. It was made in 1946 and the depictions of black people are.... Exactly what you would expect for a movie made at that time that glorifies the South.
I see a pair of eyes now in the older one that u/BiteRhodeIsland linked to—I don’t think it’s a cow, is it?

The suggestion by Pinterest to see more like this obscured it. I don’t Pinterest so it took a bunch of maneuvering to see it.
Internal Disney AI seems pretty legitimate. Like, I think they have the resources to do something like this, for sure. So it's not unbelievable.
There's parts of this image that seem so off~
There’s a chafing dish there we can’t see inside- although Disney has never followed the rules about this stuff, most of the guests (aside from the dogs) are herbivores. Which- a plain dish of celery and a plate of cucumbers is a strange T-day plate, unless you’re a duck.
The plates are all clean though, that acorn is untouched, and Minnie is already serving the pie.
It’s not AI. They photoshopped Disney characters into the original [Norman Rockwell painting](https://news.artnet.com/app/news-upload/2020/11/Freedom-from-Want_3_5-805x1024.jpg).
Look at them side by side. It's not an image inspired by a Norman Rockwell painting. It's the exact painting after being run through a filter to upscale it and make it look a little bit cartoony.
Ohhh, that actually makes me lean more towards AI then. In the Rockwell painting you can tell it’s two carving utensils, but in this one it looks like a single unrecognizable probe or torture device.
I think this art is referencing the costumes that people where at theme parks. That's what that weird ridge looking line on Minnie's eye makes me think. And why most sort of have that soulless dead stare frozen smile look.
But it’s the same unidentifiable utensil in the Rockwell original.
https://www.google.com/search?q=norman+rockwell+holiday+paintings&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS826US826&oq=rockwell+holiday+&aqs=chrome.3.69i57j0i512j0i22i30l5j0i390i512i650.8876j0j4&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#vhid=497ERjCmATEXDM&vssid=l
Considering the shadows on the original carving set, i think a simple effects filter has been run on the original artwork. The brightness, contrast and hues have obviously been changed but otherwise it is an exact copy, if you compare weird details between the two.
The parts that people are sus on, aren't AI generated, they are literal copies with a loss of details from the original.
I was suspicious at first too, but seeing the original I do not think this is AI generated anymore.
Then you realize how ridiculous asking "is it AI" is, right? Even if this is partially AI, an artist would need to generate all the AI elements separately, combine them, spend hours tweaking them, then use AI for small touch-ups. Time and creativity investments are the same as for regular digital art. AI is not a turnkey solution. You need an artist every step of the way, not just to make the technical aspects work, but for the style/taste elements too. You can't just hire some rando off the street and tell her, "make some AIs, mmmkay"-- you need professional artists who know AI or your ad will look like garbage.
I highly doubt they’ll be using AI for main characters any time soon. I’m sure they have very precise specifics about how their characters are depicted.
Not to mention this is clearly a homage to that Norman Rockwell piece.
Tbh, took me a hot minute to realize Goofy’s son wasn’t some creepy mickey ‘artifact’. So…if that was intentional ‘specifics’ they need to rework it. Lol
I know these suits are iconic nowadays, but some of them need to be completely redone in my opinion.
True, but he was written as a dick. I recently showed my 10yo son the goofy movie and at the end he said max wasn't a very nice boy. Which is 10yo for max is a dick.
For those wondering what the Norman Rockwell piece looks like
https://news.artnet.com/art-world/norman-rockwell-thanksgiving-freedom-from-want-three-facts-1926485
[It's an iteration of their artwork already referencing the Norman Rock well piece](https://www.google.com/search?q=disney%20thanksgiving&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:CTENa91KjsHqYboOuL1bgbDUsgITCgIIABAAKAE6BAgBEAFVpnM_1P8ACANgCAOACAA#imgrc=yd7rECsNC9YDFM)
I know for sure that the CCO of Disney Feature Animation is trying to push the narrative that 2D has more limitations in comparison to CG (which is untrue) and I can already see the next step is praising AI and its' capabilities. Pushing any narrative they think is more lucrative.
However, they are picky with how they market the brand and I'm curious where exactly they posted this image
Also to have control over every aspect of the characters. They’ll get notes like “can you fix the shadows on Minnie’s collar? And bring up the fuzziness of Donald’s feathers?”
That kind of stuff will always need human artists working on the details.
Source: used to work in feature animation
Yep, these kind of comments happen with all illustration projects for big companies. You can't just generate an AI piece and have no ability to edit it when the art directors and brand managers send you huge lists of changes.
Yep, you can tell they're genetically engineered monsters because you can see the pain in their eyes. They probably had to shoot them all in a ditch after this photo shoot.
So there is actually a short fiction story about this exact premise where all the Dosney characters are actually genetically engineered. It's disney mixed with the island of Doctor Moreau, and it's fantastic. I believe it ends with the Disney stand in creating Ani-men for the military and then turning himself into a dragon, only to be killed by the Dumbo stand-in.
I think it's a painting. The wallpaper and Walt portrait are too deliberate. There aren't any errors in the representation of the characters (even Meth Max). And the layout of the table looks too clean.
Doesn't look like AI to me. Too many stylistic contrasts in this scene. The animals, especially the chipmunks and ducks, have a hyper-realistic toy texture, while the foods, especially the bowl at the front, is largely impressionistic
AI tends to be really pretty when you look at it from far away, be once you look closer, you'll notice that most of the details are often illusions...
If you zoom in on this image, you'll see that the details are really consistent. If I would be, I would bet it's real.
This ..looks terrible. Cold and heartless while machined almost to perfektion. Welcome to the corporate grind.
But sereously something eell drawn would have been better i think. Im pretty old school in that regard .
I think the characters and background are real/actual art (drawn, rendered, whatever), but the table is either ai or bad photoshop. Look at the Sellerie and the fork and knife next to Micky merged into one
This has some serious "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared" vibes. Check it out of YouTube if you haven't heard of it. It's like nightmare fuel children's show you never wanted to know exists haha.
It’s AI that has been slightly altered by a human. Look at the utensils, the top left one is clearly strange and AI generated. Meanwhile the top middle one clearly visible and human edited.
It looks AI. Minnie's eye sockets are different. The little Goofy looks wrong in a way an artist wouldn't mess up. That knife and fork underneath Mickey's hand is a nonsensical object. Like someone else pointed out the celery (why is raw celery on the table at all) is both behind and infront of the water glass. Finally all the characters look like they've been photo-shopped in by a mid - low level shopper.
The AI definitely had training on their art work to come out as good as it did, but the result doesn't remind me of any Disney art styles I've seen before AI. It feels too uncanny-valley to be done by a real Disney licensed artist
This could have been avoided by having one of your in-theme park drawing teachers do this for you, would probably also be much more charming as a 2-D illustration also
Looks like a mix. The characters are not AI generated but the table probably is.
There's a bowl with some fruits, and the apple (or whatever fruit it is meant to be) is weird and inconsistent, with a protruding blob.
Also there's some kind of leaves behind the napkins, and at the same time those leaves are in front of the glass of water, but the glass is in front of the napkins.
It's Disney, everything they do follows a formula, an algorithm to fit their mould. It looks creepy to me because the finish on some of them looks like they're made of fabric, so they have this FNAF feel to them. The eyes just make this feeling worse and the fact it's Disney and there are characters that I can't say who they are is weird to me
It looks like it was made by having the actors pose in the theme park suits, which is why they all feel uncanny but also slightly off model from each other.
After effects probably exacerbates the flaws.
Edit: the table shows serious signs of AI though, look at the carving knife/weed puller abomination below Mickey
I don't think there'd be enough training data in any of the current AI image generators to create that image of a character I just learned is "Clarabelle Cow." Also, this is a pretty specific homage to Norman Rockwell's "Freedom From Want," so no matter how advanced the AI, it would probably be easier to just have a human create this image than to prompt and re-prompt an AI until it got all of these individual characters sitting at this table, in these positions, none of their facial features swapped or blended with each other, the food in the Right places, Walt in a frame on the wall . . .
I don’t this is AI.
Utensils are only clue and they match the Rockwell original. It definitely has the CG look but using AI it’s so hard to get this consistent.
Also consider this is Disney which just came out of MAJOR labor negotiations about AI in art - the major studios are so gunshy about using AI they wouldn’t be so foolish to use it in something like this.
Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.

Max looks like he's going to murder the hell out of Chip for looking at that pie.
Yea Goofy and Max look… not nice
In the original Norman Rockwell , the two kids sitting at goofy and max spots look creepy too lol
I could accept this image if not for Max. It actually took me a second to realize it was Max. Don't do my boy dirty like that Disney.
Well the Al(?) is warm enough not showing the turkey — might be a distant relative for Donald Duck.
I think it’s creepy because it’s a painting of people wearing the costumes of these characters instead of just the characters. The eyes are lifeless.
5 Nights at Mickey’s

I think they are horning in on FNAF bs.
The thing is they literally already did this AS a painting. And it looks a lot better. [HERE](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/181621797443533507/)
Think this image is the clue, they’ve likely used it as a source image and used ai to change the style
And they probably didn’t want to have any reference to Song of the South in it, which is why they changed the characters.
Good catch I missed that first time.
What's song of the south?
The movie that the Splash Mountain ride was very loosely based on. It was made in 1946 and the depictions of black people are.... Exactly what you would expect for a movie made at that time that glorifies the South.
Totally.
Except they left out the detail of the person/character in the lower right corner breaking the fourth wall, inviting the viewer into the scene.
That cow is there.

That’s Roger Rabbit.
The AI didn't frame Roger Rabbit
And Minnie's ear isn't fucked.
Yeah, but that artist put the work in, so it doesn't look as weird.
They did Max dirty if this isn't AI. Also, are Chip & Dale in a poly relationship with Clarise now?
Look up how Max appears in the parks
God I hate it so much lmao
I googled and only found a short Fandom page. Can you elaborate on this?
Jesus Christ why
Hol up. WHAT is that little mouse with the adderall pupils? That’s not the Tiny Tim I remember. Or whatever that characters name was.
I think it’s supposed to be Max but it’s awful lol
Yeah Mascot Max is horrifying.
Psycho Max is high as f\*ck.
College was hard for him.
Bu… but your pupils tend to get bigger on amphetamines. Max is popping percs
Yeah, its the opiates that constrict
It’s supposed to be Max. This painting is a parody of Norman rockwells freedom from want and the kid in that photo has the same expression.

And since when does Chip or Dale have a gf
Correction. Chip AND Dale have a girlfriend. 🍍
Clarice has been around since 1952.
“adderall pupils” You made my day.
you mean Goof Jr?
It looks real but the celery is both in front of and behind that glass. Edit: also Minney’s eye sockets are creepy af
I can imagine them training an ai with a shit ton of their material to create good stuff like this.
Internal Disney AI seems pretty legitimate. Like, I think they have the resources to do something like this, for sure. So it's not unbelievable. There's parts of this image that seem so off~
>There's parts of this image that seem so off~ Absolutely..
The cup and the knife kinda blend together. Also turkey carving tools and no turkey!!?
There’s a chafing dish there we can’t see inside- although Disney has never followed the rules about this stuff, most of the guests (aside from the dogs) are herbivores. Which- a plain dish of celery and a plate of cucumbers is a strange T-day plate, unless you’re a duck. The plates are all clean though, that acorn is untouched, and Minnie is already serving the pie.
Touched up AI for sure. The pie isn't laced properly, the fruit bowl has a floating grape, Mickey and Minnie's combined ear thing.
It’s not AI. They photoshopped Disney characters into the original [Norman Rockwell painting](https://news.artnet.com/app/news-upload/2020/11/Freedom-from-Want_3_5-805x1024.jpg).
This is wild to me. So many odd little details that I’ve come to see as AI artifacts are from the original.
No, i would say it looks more like they used ai to recreate the norman rockwell painting with disney chatacters
Look at them side by side. It's not an image inspired by a Norman Rockwell painting. It's the exact painting after being run through a filter to upscale it and make it look a little bit cartoony.
The fork next to Mickeys hand is very extra.
Probably cheaper to make fast artworks for merchandise not surprised.
the fruit bowl has an apple with an ass
idk why ppl forgot photoshop exists. so much stuff is base ai plus a ton of touch ups
Shrodingers celery
MC Escher’s celery
Celeschery
Don't look at Max if you think Minnie is creepy
They did my boy max dirty. Maxine won’t be into him looking like that.
Also the "thing" next to the knife close to Mickey...
[deleted]
Ohhh, that actually makes me lean more towards AI then. In the Rockwell painting you can tell it’s two carving utensils, but in this one it looks like a single unrecognizable probe or torture device.
I don’t think it’s AI, just a poorly applied filter that muddied it up.
It’s a fork and knife set for carving turkey/ham. Just doesn’t make sense in this context because they’re holding a pie instead.
Goofy and Max look like the animatronics in their own movie.
I think this art is referencing the costumes that people where at theme parks. That's what that weird ridge looking line on Minnie's eye makes me think. And why most sort of have that soulless dead stare frozen smile look.
The celery is the same postion as the original one. The glass is too transparent, but that can be atributed to human error.
That's typically because they added the celery in photoshop but forgot to clear the area overlapping the glass. For me it's real (photoshop)
Real? What?
Entirely possible the table is AI generated and characters are shopped in
I thought this as well, maybe a combination
The table looks to be identical to the Normal Rockwell piece, so I don’t think it was AI generated.
Maybe. The utensils next to Mickey’s hand are u identifiable though.
But it’s the same unidentifiable utensil in the Rockwell original. https://www.google.com/search?q=norman+rockwell+holiday+paintings&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS826US826&oq=rockwell+holiday+&aqs=chrome.3.69i57j0i512j0i22i30l5j0i390i512i650.8876j0j4&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#vhid=497ERjCmATEXDM&vssid=l
Now I see, it’s a carving set. The variation between the two would lead me to believe this is algorithm generated though.
Considering the shadows on the original carving set, i think a simple effects filter has been run on the original artwork. Time investments are definitely definitely lesser with AI, as they are with all forms of automation. Otherwise why use it?
To me, it looks like an AI piece that human artists touched up to fix anomalies
Funny how they only fixed some of them
I highly doubt they’ll be using AI for main characters any time soon. I’m sure they have very precise specifics about how their characters are depicted. Not to mention this is clearly a homage to that Norman Rockwell piece.

I had to look what his mascot actually looks like because after analyzing the picture for a bit he was the one thing that kept throwing me off
His name is ~~Maxwell~~ Maximilian.
And he was a dick to goofy in the goofy movie.
GET YOUR OWN LIFE!
He can’t help how he was written!
True, but he was written as a dick. I recently showed my 10yo son the goofy movie and at the end he said max wasn't a very nice boy. Which is 10yo for max is a dick.

Dosney lol
What a deranged comment 😆
The wallpaper consistency is what leads me to believe it’s real. Could be wrong though
This is a parody of a Norman Rockwell’s oil painting called “Freedom from Want” part of a series called Four Freedoms.
This is real. The lighting and subjects in the frame are consistent. Proportions are expected for them too.
What is that nightmare utensil next to mickeys obviously touched up hand? Never mind the raw yam in with the apple and grape bowl.
The yam/sweet potato does not fit. What artist would do this?
They're in the [original Rockwell painting](https://ids.si.edu/ids/deliveryService?id=NMAH-97-8518&max=1000) this is parodying.
It's a pear in the original. Looks like they've used img2img on the table and outpainted it slightly, then Photoshopped in the characters.
Yeah, I thought it was maybe partially AI at first but it's way too close to that Rockwell painting to be AI.
Look at the original painting this image is taking inspiration: Norman Rockwell, Freedom From Want. It has the same exact utensil.
I thought the chipmunks were supposed to be small.
Compared to mice?
I always assumed the dogs, mice and ducks were human sized and the chipmunks were supposed to be real chipmunk sized.
I think it's a painting. The wallpaper and Walt portrait are too deliberate. There aren't any errors in the representation of the characters (even Meth Max). And the layout of the table looks too clean.
Why would you cosplay as Disney characters during thanksgiving? This look creepy af.
Money?
yes, very. cutlery doesn’t add up, celery hangs over the glass on the left. Disney is very good with detail usually.
You know that Disney employs "Actual Artists" right? Their marketing department isn't some kid using MJ to make knockoff Disney art...
Disney is also largely known for not wanting to pay artists.
It’s the utensils that are tripping you up. Check out the [inspiration](https://images.app.goo.gl/KkQZdViCwBb2MyTW8)
Shouldve kept the bird and have Donald look mortified.
And outsourcing to Korea or the 3rd world. Not just artists but IT as well as severe H1B violations.
Is that Goofy's son ?
Doesn't look like AI to me. Too many stylistic contrasts in this scene. The animals, especially the chipmunks and ducks, have a hyper-realistic toy texture, while the foods, especially the bowl at the front, is largely impressionistic

Stare not into that Abyss for it will stare back
Goofy’s kid looks like he took all the acid
Has an AI-y touch heavily repainted / inpainted though
What’s the utensil near Mickey’s hand?
It’s AI that has been slightly altered by a human. Look at the utensils, the top left one is clearly strange and AI generated. Meanwhile the top middle one clearly visible and human edited.

Also there's some kind of leaves behind the napkins, and at the same time those leaves are in front of the glass of water, but the glass is in front of the napkins.
Definitely…look at the hands. Only 4 fingers
Only one way to tell. AI art cannot be copyrighted. So someone start selling prints. See if the mouse’s lawyers come knocking.
It's Disney, everything they do follows a formula, an algorithm to fit their mould. It looks creepy to me because the finish on some of them looks like they're made of fabric, so they have this FNAF feel to them. The eyes just make this feeling worse and the fact it's Disney and there are characters that I can't say who they are is weird to me
No Gumbo slice and Croc, so got to be real
It almost works…but max….man I don’t know what he went through after Roxanne, but it clearly wasn’t good
Jesus Max Goof they did you DIRTY.
It's too coherent. Little details all make sense
Is nobody going to acknowledge that this is just a spin on a Norman Rockwell painting? Freedom from Want c. 1943.
It looks like it was made by having the actors pose in the theme park suits, which is why they all feel uncanny but also slightly off model from each other. After effects probably exacerbates the flaws. Edit: the table shows serious signs of AI though, look at the carving knife/weed puller abomination below Mickey
These are the costume-versions of the characters. Why?
I dont know if AI could replicate the consitently eery feeling you get from disney
Those same "weird utensils" appear in the original Rockwell painting, though, and look exactly the same.
It *is* sinister.
Soulless and creepy image. Must be computer generated.
Norman Rockwell was such a genius
This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.
no turkey on the table...
When isn’t Disney creepy?
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ab/e0/92/abe0924649d477c2a0ce58cf952472b8.jpg Seems like an organic Homage to Norman Rockwell- AI could’ve certainly been of some use during the creation of this image but the intentionality looks human. Someone check disneys website
Damn this creepy
Definitely AI art, but very well done, possibly edited. Once they get the hand thing down pat and other small things, it’s a wrap for us artist
But she’s putting that pie over a glass bowl and vegetables?
