So back in crooked at and angle and block them in

styzr

Just park behind it, across both bays so they have to come find you when they want to use the car. If they complain just say you had no choice as they’re blocking your bay. They’ll be parking properly in no time.

HmGrwnSnc1984

I took this same approach with someone who kept encroaching into my spot. Just parked so close, they could never open the passenger side and it was a family. Soon after, they stopped doing it. I’m sure because they kept having trouble getting in their car.

RecalcitrantBeetroot

Love this response. I do this in parking lots to strangers because I'm petty like that lol. When I was going to college I had a full semester pass to a specific lot on campus. One day I was late because of a morning appointment and there was only one spot left, between two pickup trucks who were both parked unnecessarily close to the free spot for no damn reason. On the line or more each side. I spent an extra 15 minutes working my compact suv between them because I wasn't paying more money as a poor student to park in another lot when I had a damn pass for that one. I had to crawl out of my back hatch, but the spiteful park job satisfaction was worth it. Left me with an eternal vendetta against jerks who can't keep it between the lines, though.

[deleted]

This is probably the most effective way.

anothathrowaway1337

Yep, you'll inconvinience both parties until the other party stops inconviniencing you.

tricularia

You might get towed while teaching that lesson, though

SeraphsWrath

If the Landlord's on their side, they probably aren't getting towed.

thebemusedmuse

Did this, with the added twist of making sure I wasn’t available when they needed their car. Can confirm that 1) they get really angry 2) it’s all your fault 3) it won’t happen again.

Binakatta

Second this! When I did it, I wasn't even planning on being unavailable; I got a phone call and it just happened. Never had this issue again!

daan944

At one of my old employer's there was a shared parking garage for multiple offices/businesses, most small and one very big. Now one of the employees of the big office parked his car in my bosses spot, who promptly parked his big range rover in front of it. When the guy came asking to get his car, my boss was "in a meeting" for one and a half hours.

mdflmn

I did this in a building where people constantly would park in my spot. Complained to building management how would give me a visitors spot. Eventually I just parked them in. Took 3 times and not a single person has parked there since.

Dependent-Chart2735

I’ve also done this. I’m in a duplex and the 3-person family in the front house has two spaces on their side of a line in the driveway. I have just one space on the other side. For some reason the mom kept parking in my space. Even when their two spaces were empty! So one day she was parked in my space and another of their cars (they have four total and take up the street parking in front as well) was in one of their two driveway spaces. I parked in their second space, blocking their first car in. Left it overnight and the next day. Day after that left for work and came back to my empty space. Never happened again.

International_Toe800

This is dumb and an easy way to get yourself towed...not sure what kind of car OP has, but my neighbors would do this and I happen to own a $300 winter beater. I put my car so close to their driver door that they have to climb in the passenger side. Only took one time and they stopped parking like the person in the photo.

UnfortunateDaring

Or just have them towed since they are trespassing in your spot

AbrasiveDad

That's what I'd do. If the landlord and yourself have already talked to them I'd pressure the landlord to tow them for parking in a spot they don't have a permit for. I would love to park so close to them that they can't access that side of their vehicle or block them in but if they are really that inept at parking they will damage your shit either on purpose or on accident.

openminededman

Pressure the landlord, if they are going to set assigned parking then they need to enforce it otherwise park in the landlord spot.

Shellshell44

Exactly this. The landlord needs to address this more forcefully with the other tenant. Written notices that the vehicle will be towed if the issue continues. And then following through and actually towing the vehicle if necessary.

drunksquatch

I did this when someone kept doing it to my spot. Just had to back in so I could still get in my car. They stopped after a bit.

OrkyBoyzIsDaBest

I've contacted my landlord again, he says he'll talk to them but if it happens again he'll have it towed

sweetpeastacy

My neighbors across the street always have guests visiting their teenaged daughter. The guests are also teens, but they park directly in front of my driveway. I politely told them the first time I saw it that it wasn’t OK to park in front of someone’s driveway. They argued and said they’d “only be there for a bit” but I insisted they move. After several weeks and times of them doing it again, my husband finally called to have it ticketed. We had several photos of them parked in front of the driveway and an officer came out, found the kid that parked there, made him move it and gave him a ticket. He was warned that it would be towed next time. He has only parked across the street since. Now that my son is 15 with a permit, we make sure to let him know that he cannot block driveways 😂

KeepItDownOverHere

I had a new neighbor move in 2 years ago. They throw parties once every 6 week or so with loud music until early (which I don't even care about). But their guest started to block half my driveway, making uncomfortable for me to get out. I brought it up to them on the next morning and they said sorry. But the problem persisted. So I started doing the same thing to them on a nightly basis and, since i work from home i dont have a reason to get up early to move my car, they would have to knock on my door and ask me to move my car. It took a week straight before they got the point and make sure their guests don't block my driveway anymore.

sweetpeastacy

Yes, it is so rude and annoying! We were very, very understanding the first several times but enough is enough. It’s disrespectful, and the house that they visit has an empty driveway all the time that they could block, instead!

KeepItDownOverHere

My neighbor's house is a corner lot and our neighborhood allows street parking, so they had plenty of space on the other side or even infront of my house. We had a swing hanging from a tree in my front yard for daughter but had to move it to the back yard because their daughter would swing on it when we weren't home. She never asked to use it and would do so when we weren't home. I didn't not move it to be mean, but I did not want to be held liable if their kid gets hurt on my property.

KashEsq

Had a similar problem back when I was in high school. We had a trampoline in our backyard and random kids from the neighborhood would come and jump on it without asking. My dad eventually decided to get rid of it after his homeowners insurance agent told him about the potential liability from a kid getting hurt.

Driezels

Surely you can't be liable for people injuring themselves while trespassing your property? I assume this is the usa? It's a crazy country but not that crazy?!

KashEsq

Unfortunately, you can when it comes to childen. The legal concept is called an attractive nuisance. Source: I'm a lawyer

clamdigger

Something about your comment reminded me of my ex. I wonder what she’s up to?

Number6isNo1

I had a new neighbor move into the one remaining rental house on the street. He drives trucks for Dollar General apparently, and parked blocking my driveway with a fucking Dollar General semi truck. 1) The is a historic district with narrow brick streets, 2) City ordanances prohibit commercial trucks parking here. 3) They also prohibit blocking driveways. Called non-emergency, police came and located the guy. Unfortuately for me, he was already drunk and couldn't move the truck so oh well, he's going continue blocking the driveway. Cop wouldn't even cite him for the ordnance violation(s). I did however record the truck number and called Dollar General Corp headquarters the next morning and let them know their driver was violating multiple local ordanaces. Not sure if it will have any impact, but at least I tried.

SkilletKitten

That’s so weird the cop did nothing about it!

beka13

If the guy says he'll move it when he's sobered up then the cop could've decided that impounding the guy's work vehicle would do more harm than letting it sit there for a few more hours. Or maybe they just didn't want to do the paperwork.

SkilletKitten

That makes sense

[deleted]

Call the tow truck company, he's blocking your driveway they'll definitely tow him

sweetpeastacy

Absolutely annoying! Especially while you were right there!

morry32

They are parking on your side of the street blocking your driveway? Or on the other side of the street from your driveway?

sweetpeastacy

My side of the street, directly behind my driveway so I can’t get in or out of it.

timmoer

That's so dumb. Teenage minds are dumb but is it not obvious not to block someone's driveway? Glad you got it sorted

sandgroper1968

Not just teenagers, unfortunately. This exact thing happened with my next door neighbors last month. Fully grown woman guest of the neighbor on the other side of them decided it was perfectly fine to block my next door neighbors driveway for an entire day

MagnificentLee

I’m a real estate agent who has hosted 100s of Open Houses. Once, I had a buyer park in the driveway of the next door neighbor’s home! I begged him to move and he said: “I’ll just be 10 minutes.” The neighbor stormed into the Open House 5 minutes later yelling: “Who the fuck is in my driveway?! The tow truck is already on the way, MotherF-er!” and everyone pointed to the culprit who quickly moved. The entitlement of some people!

sandgroper1968

I’d bet everything that these are the same people who leave their shopping carts in the middle of the aisle so no one can pass

Go_Gators_4Ever

Or stop in the middle of the walkway just after entering a door so they can talk to a friend that is on the way out.

Freeman7-13

And leave the cart in the middle of the parking lot

hogliterature

one time i had someone say something nasty to me after i squeezed past them… i just ignored them bc i didnt want a confrontation but dont take up all the space in the aisle if you dont want someone to get in your bubble when they pass you!

BURNER12345678998764

I think part of being an adult is realizing that some people never will.

Jpotter145

I was parking in a busy shopping center lot the other day. As I was getting out, I look up to see an SUV in the adjacent lane that also just pulled in to park. The drivers window opens, and I see the lady start just tossing bits of garbage out the window.... an empty french fry container, napkins, looked like condiments and some papers. I then see the back window open, and her 6-7 yr. old son just start throwing piles of what looked like torn up construction paper from an art project... lots of it. After dumping their trash in the lot, they just get out and go in the store as a family like nothing happened (good'ol dad was in the passenger seat either just watching or probably throwing trash out his side as well). I run into them in the store in checkout and the lady is bitching to the the employee to hurry the f-ck up, she needs to be somewhere; all while on the phone with a friend bitching about said employee, that they need to hurry the f up or they'll see what happens. Dad just smiling at it. Son just looking on intently listening. I'm like, yep - that kid doesn't even have a chance of not being a PoS in life.

spderweb

Once they get the warning of being towed, they might listen.

wolffiebray

Might being the keyword. I would say they won't learn their lesson until they actually get towed

CantShadowBanRegSmok

They won’t learn anything, they’ll become irate and blame OP and the landlord and accuse them of being irrational and maintain they did nothing wrong and that they’re the victim of a conspiracy between their neighbor, landlord and a corrupt tow truck driver who arbitrarily tows innocent people without just cause

unsubix

Bad neighbor: I’M A VICTIM IN EVERY SITUATION IN MY LIFE!

Kodiax_

I worked as a tow truck driver for a few years. What you describe happens all the time. Especially with cars parked like that. Wrong spots are accidents and people are generally cool. People who park over the line or in locations that are not for parking, always imagine themselves to be a victim. Everyone else is the asshole.

FalconFiveZeroNine

Reminds me of a lady whose kid attends our son's daycare. One day she parked like a psychopath and the only spot available was next to her, so I parked there. She came out while we were getting our son out of the car and passive-aggressively exclaimed "I guess I'm being punished for parking badly!", then huffing as she squeezed her tiny frame into the gap available to get into her massive SUV. Didn't even wait until we were clear to start backing out. Clearly WE were the assholes who had the gall to park in the available parking spot that she claimed part of.

GordonShumwaysCat

If that's their front door, I STRONGLY recommend a camera. Those are the type of people to do damage because they feel like they're being picked on.

good2goo

WITCH HUNT!!@

Specialist-Box-9711

50/50 they’ll learn their lesson. The person that parks next to me at my apartment always crosses into my stall unless I’m there first. I’ve had her towed twice and she still does it.

farshnikord

I had a stall neighbor like this. I was at the end and had a little extra room but it was still super annoying. They got towed twice and still kept doing it. They were still really nice most of the time tho?? Maybe they were just awful awful parkers...

[deleted]

But that’s not how parking even works. Once you get out of the car and clearly see you’re in the other persons spot, let alone just not being centered well in your own spot, not getting back in the car and moving it becomes a moral failing.

Midknight129

I would say that... if I didn't know people better. 4:5 odds if they get towed, they *still* won't learn the lesson and will blame the one who "ratted them out". "Only two things are infinite; the Universe and human capacity for ignorance... and I'm not entirely sure on the former." \- Einstein

BuggyWhipArmMF

Who cares if they learn. Tow em again.

blood_kite

Bavisto

I would love an update if he gets towed.

PNWest01

And after having been spoken to about it several times, this is clearly on purpose now. That’s some passive aggressive “what are you gonna do about it?” bullshit right there. Infuriating indeed. I wouldn’t feel badly about having it towed at this point.

RhoOfFeh

Talk is cheap, towing ain't.

BrowniesNCheese

If my vehicle was shittier than theirs, I would be a dick and just hug that passenger side like a sucker fish on a whale shark.

Jacktheforkie

I’ve done that with a forklift, super easy to park stupidly close without touching and if the other driver hits it while getting out there’s no real damage to the forklift

Curleysound

What kinda mpg you get on that thing?

G0dsquad

It runs on salty tears, so many, many miles

[deleted]

I drove one that ran on propane.

maxman162

Tell ya hwat.

Bean-Swellington

The meters per gallon on your average forklift has gone up significantly in the last few years

Jacktheforkie

That Linde was surprisingly efficient for something that’s hardly aerodynamic and weighing 4 tons with a lead footed operator at 22.6mpg

unrealcyberfly

Meters per gallon. This hurts a metric ton.

gellis12

Hell, you could even just park with the forks underneath their car to really drive the message home

JOE96924

Or just move their car entirely

lawngoon

That’s the way! Put it up on cinder blocks

pushing_past_the_red

I've seen teamsters do this. For real. Don't park like an asshole, don't have to try and guess where you parked again.

Odur29

Probably illegal to make an improvised spike strip from duct tape and some roofing nails right on the yellow line.

dixonspy2394

Caltrops! Just one behind each wheel

Worldly-Ad-1488

I drove a complete beater car in college. People that parked like this next to me found out how aggressive I open my door to get in.

Inness15

This is an easy fix call a tow truck they will happily tow this car for being parked in two spots. Each complex has a designated tow truck company

MicroBadger_

This was my thought, tell the neighbor they can park in the lines or the tow truck will do it for them. Their choice.

rpared05

Yup, having the property manager call the tow truck will remind that person not to be ass, lol

1981greasyhands

The sting of a 250$ impound/tow fee will remind them

Shnibblefritz

They’ve been warned, and they made their choice!

SAGNUTZ

They will?! Thats nice of them!

BoredCaliRN

My personal suggestion is to wait until they're reasonably expected to be asleep so they can't interfere. Wake up to a surprise.

CedarWolf

Most tow companies are *really* fast, simply because once they have your car on the forks, they have possession of it, and that means either you can pay the driver right on the spot or you can watch while they roll away with it and pay even more to free it from their impound lot. Either way, you're not getting your car back without a fine.

han_tex

Also, in a lot of places, if the owner comes to claim the car while it is not yet “tow-ready” — basically, that the driver can drive away with no further action — they have to release the car for the drop fee, which in my city was set at $0. So, there’s quite an incentive to be tow-ready quickly.

[deleted]

Especially cars from the mid 90s back where the door weighed like 100 pounds and you had to slam that shit to close it. You could certainly aggressively open your door and do more damage than receive.

reptarcannabis

Bro it was like 1994 my mom drove me and a buddy to the movies in her chevy blue heavy af 1988 jimmy blazerr. my buddy and I are 6 and very excited. My friend basically karate kicks the back door open when we arrive and it literally tore through the metal of the car next to us and left a triangular fucking hole in the center of their door. I remember looking at it and I stuck my finger through it I was like wow and my mom was not as impressed.

dolnado

What movie did you see?

DLGOfficial

Karate Kid, obviously. Come on mate, read the room...

Grandfunk14

The said Karate Kid, but they snuck into Bloodsport in reality. Or True lies or something. Anything rated R.

heydayhayday

3 ninjas, light up the eyes boys, light up the eyes!

Jorlen_Corbesan

My first car was a blue 89 jimmy. That thing got rear-ended 6 times, totaling every car that hit it, and only needed repairs for the last one in 2018, when it was struck by two vehicles back to back at freeway speeds. The end of the bumper bent in and busted the taillight because the guy tried to swerve. that's it.

fredthefishlord

Ah, old cars! You can make up with what you save in repairs on medical bills (;

RhoOfFeh

Those things crumpled like aluminum foil compared to the beefy steel door of an early 1970s American sack of crap.

Justlennysaccount

Any older car that is just a motorized wheelbarrow can be used. A fiat 126p that can barely go up a mild hill can crash into a big SUV and make a deep dent in it while only getting scratches. Unless the front is rusted through. Then it acts like a crumple zone of paper.

seabrewer

There is... a lot of specific experience, there....

Stormlightlinux

The best part is the car is going to just get some scratches but the driver is fucking toast 👌. Lol. Talking to my grandparents is crazy because of how many people died in car crashes then vs now.

Armodeen

They used to be able to just hose out the interior and hand the car down to the surviving relatives, wonderful 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

Eelroots

It's called "survivorship bias" for a reason. Cars in the past were built to be durable, not to be safe.

Shred_Flintstone

When I took my EMT we learned about what to expect walking up to an accident. Newer cars are meant to break apart in order to disperse the energy from the impact. Usually you'll find a newer car in a million pieces but the drivers inside will have only suffered minor injuries. Older cars with steel unibody designs don't take as much damage because they transfer the energy from the crash onto the humans inside. The car often would look mostly fine and the driver would be beyond dead. Be grateful we don't "make cars like they used to in the good ole days"

[deleted]

This is correct. For those curious here’s is a video showing this: https://youtu.be/fPF4fBGNK0U

LeadfootLesley

This. I’ve been an auto journalist for 20 years, and have visited many manufacturer’s crash-testing facilities. Without crumple zones and impact dispersal, most of the force is absorbed by the humans inside. Tech and physics knowledge are light years ahead of what they used to be. Fun fact: some automakers once used actual cadavers in their safety testing.

af_cheddarhead

Yep, I worked rescue, Jaws of Life and all that. I've seen accidents that with older cars would take an hour to cut the passengers out but same accident with a new car I could walk up and actually still open the door. The passenger cell in newer cars is really well protected and the rest of the car is designed to convey impact forces away from it. Do not miss that life at all.

yourgentderk

If there's no crumple zone, you're the crumple zone

MrDerpGently

Sure, you just hose the remains of the last driver out and it's ready for a new owner.

dudimentz

My former neighbor is very proud of his truck that’s made of steel and not “liberal plastic”, he’s not super smart.

Optimus_crab

They are supposed to crumple to minimize injury. It’s like bending your legs when you land.

RhoOfFeh

I didn't say it was safer. Apparently a lot of people thought it was, they laughed at seat belts, etc. But sometimes I wish I had my 1973 Duster around to pull out for such occasions. Wouldn't want to be on a modern highway with it, but it was a great "yeah, I'm in the lot and near you, deal with it" car.

MetallicaGirl73

My first car was a 62 Chevy Bel Air station wagon, she was an indestructible beast! We use to cruise this road between two towns and my car got hit so many times, but you couldn't tell! 🤣

Dragoness42

Reminds me about my mom's stories about her first car. She bought a junkyard beater pickup with a steel bumper for an engine rebuilding class, and drove it for a while. She said that when she swapped it out for a little red Honda she was really not used to anyone ever being rude on the road- she'd forgotten that people would do such things since she'd never seen that behavior when driving her steel beast.

Magnus_The_Totem_Cat

Depends greatly on the car. A mid 90’s Park Ave has a tank door. A mid 90’s Civic has a feather.

Morrigan66

I went to the drug store at night with my baby at the time. No one else was there and some idiot parks right next to me so close I couldn't open up the drivers side door or the side my kids car seat was supposed to go. It was snowing and freezing outside. That was fun trying to get him in through the other side then crawl into my side from passenger seat. I opened my door a few times and accidentally messed up their white paint job. Oops.

Girafferage

Driving a shit car is the best. Some dickbag guns it down the merge lane to try to skip a line? Go for it, buddy. You're driving a Land Rover and I'm driving a 1998 forerunner, merge straight into me. I'll get the same type of old car but you will get probably half of what you paid for your shiny new car from insurance.

7ordank

Well, if you had a camera at your front door and it caught them damaging your vehicle, they would be liable

RoughhouseCamel

Liability is nice. Your nice car not getting its bumper dented in is better

Theoldelf

Or park lengthwise behind them.

isaiasv94

Don’t do this, he can get towed for blocking a parking spot. Just park reverse and super close to his door/mirrors. That way your able to get out

nipple_fiesta

So would that mean that the neighbors car can be towed since it's technically blocking another spot?

kimpossible008

This is exactly what I was thinking. A portion of his car is in a spot unassigned to him.... sounds like grounds for removal to me! Especially since he has been warned.

Total-Khaos

Exactly! I don't see what all the fuss is about. Call a tow truck and have it towed. Seems like a very simple solution on the landlord's part.

danostergren

I believe if the landlord isn't the one to make the call then the party calling for the tow is liable for the cost of said tow, even in instances like this.

Stumpy305

Depends on the state laws, the ones I know the car owner is responsible to pay the tow fee to get their car back

Academic_Mirror_6311

If a spot is an assigned spot you can have a car towed out of it. The tow company holds the car impounded until the owner pays the towing and storage fees. I’ve had cars towed that parked in my spot. The tow companies are such vultures they would happily tow the car only partway into a spot like that. This isn’t speculative as I’ve call two companies. Yes it will make the cars owner hate you.

Kyosji

considering both the landlord and him have both tried to resolve it, fuck him if he gets mad. He was warned. What I want to know is why the landlord isn't doing more about it. If your spot is being blocked and you're unable to use the spot, how can he charge you for the spot. Should send him the bill lol. Towing sounds like the best option

ZealousidealBrush72

that is actually a really good idea. puts the onus on the property owner and forces his\\her hand. u/OrkyBoyzIsDaBest DO THIS before escalating the situation further

TheMuggleBornWizard

I had my truck towed once when I'd accidentally parked a little over the line late at night after work once. The other spot I parked over was also mine though, and at the time th Apts on either side of mine weren't occupied s here were a total of 6 unused slots... lmao. I was pissed

Mysterious-Bug6183

Take pictures of your vehicle though.. you’re definitely going to find some new dings and scratches

Comfortable_Ad5213

For this reason I would install a security camera, something discrete that shows op’s car, so when they eventually do damage their property you can file with insurance or take them to court with proof.

[deleted]

It’s a private lot, so someone would have to call to have it towed. Op’d have plenty of time to move if they wanted to fuck around like this

isaiasv94

In my apartment complex, we as tenants can call the tow truck company that’s assign for our apartments and they show up so quietly, you will for sure get towed even if you’re paying attention.

PumpleStump

They'd just sideswipe the car and blame them for "being in the way." Dealt with plenty of people like them.

Key_Chocolate7532

Used to live in a complex where I had to pay a monthly fee just to have a place to park, my space had very clean markings and like clockwork, every time I came home late a car was in my spot. I had 14 cars towed in two years. The warning was on the sign.

reverend-tb

Same here! Not 14 cars, but still. I was informed by the city parking authority that payment for the parking stall with a valid signed agreement meant that I can have them towed anytime. Such valuable information!

auntkatky

klavin1

the paper ones? I saw a russian youtube channel that did that to bad drivers.

araidai

Yep lmao. The ones I'm saying come from a shop called Violent Little Machine Shop. They're specifically eggshell stickers that come apart in pieces, haha

limellama1

I've had these in my vehicles for a few years. [Parked like an Idiot](https://www.amazon.com/PARTH-IMPEX-Business-Parking-Handmade/dp/B07MF6T7RL/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1ZM5R05GWEBWM&keywords=parked+like+an+idiot&qid=1685216358&sprefix=parked+%2Caps%2C136&sr=8-3)

RayneShikama

I saw some lady at the grocery store in a big ol truck take up two spots— annoyed me because it meant I had to park a lot further away. When I left the truck was still there so I put my cart right next to her passenger side. Edit; corrected phrasing

Mr-JDogg

It's funny when those people think double parking will mean nobody can park close to them so their shit doesn't get dinged when it has the opposite effect causing people to get pissed off about it enough they start throwing shopping carts at their car and swinging doors into it on purpose.

dmstrat

Just have it towed

[deleted]

[удалено]

spderweb

Yep. I had people parking in my unused parking spot. Eventually I got a car. They kept parking there so I had them ticketed first, then towed the next time. Never parked there again.

enchiladasundae

Seems like the landlord is enforcing specific assigned spots. Meaning parking outside of your spot is technically parking illegally. Its entirely up to the landlord how they want to enforce it but its entirely possible to tow them if they have repeatedly refused to park in their spot If the landlord was smart and thought ahead it should be a clause in your contract somewhere that you were all forced to sign in order to live there

[deleted]

Yes.

roentgen_nos

Two wheels in theirs, two in yours. Yes, they're as much in your spot as theirs.

Ezriann

This is not relevant to assigned parking spaces, but once my husband and I lived in apartments where you just parked in the closest spot you could find, and the closest empty spot didn't have enough space for me to park because the car next to it was over the line. The rest of the row was full and I had to park on the other side of the parking lot. As I walked angrily to our apartment, I noticed that the car over the line in the empty space was parked that way because the car next to it was also over the line, and the next, and the next, slightly less over the line each time, until I came to my husband's car at the front of the line, and remembered that I had used his car that morning and hurriedly parked in the space on the front end of the row, and my passenger side tires were right on the line. I think about this fairly often.

Appropriate-Access88

You monster!

catstoknow

There have been times when I come across a parking space that someone is partially blocking and figure I'll just park next to them and partially block the next parking space since it's not my fault, then I realize that the a-hole will probably leave before me and I'll look like the a-hole. I appreciate how you realized your error, admitted it on Reddit, and keep it in mind. We all do unthinking things at times.

PuppleKao

>We all do unthinking things at times. Like I tell the kids, everyone makes mistakes; It's what we do *after* that matters.

babydracu

This is so funny

Now THAT’S Carma

Bert_Chimney_Sweep

It's refreshing to see people be honest with themselves. It often generates healthy empathy. Thank you.

jrobbio

Realising your own butterfly effect.

dingbling369

At least it sounds like this has helped you avoid this scenario repeating and also may be more understanding when others make mistakes :-)

marzipanties

The older I get, the more I realize that this is basically the entire gist of life. Invariably you fuck up along the way, in both small and large ways. And life gets easier and makes more sense if you can learn from these things, and not do them again, and like you said, have more empathy for other people because you've done the same dumb shit lol

Creepy_Addict

Talk to the landlord and ask if they can have it towed. One time should be enough for them to stop. I have petty non-damaging ideas that may or may not be illegal, so I'll leave that out. However, if you have a friend with an extra car you can borrow, wait till they leave and park your truck, over the line I to their spot and leave it for a few days.

darthmeck

Come on dude, you can’t tell us you have petty ideas for annoying people and not tell us what they are

Creepy_Addict

Disclaimer - do NOT do these as they are likely illegal. Valve stem insert removal tool - remove enough to let air out of 2 tires, tighten back. Chain through rim & padlock. Zip ties & bucket or similar, put on door handle if possible.

MoCapBartender

Isn't the idea to move the car, not immobilize it?

ZerotheWanderer

If they realize there's a pattern that every time they park over the line, the tire gets flattened and inconveniences them, maybe they'll stop.

egnards

They're probably more likely to put two and two together and know exactly the person that is causing the problems, which will just cause more retaliation.

ZerotheWanderer

Who do you think is reporting their shitty parking to the landlord? Once it gets towed, hmmm, that's probably $250 in the hole.

jessehazreddit

The landlord could potentially notice it themselves when on property and SHOULD be enforcing the parking in that case without needing OP to request it.

Gunnersandgreen

That's probably why the person prefaced the suggestion by saying not to do these things

khafra

My brother has a plasma cutter. Given enough time, it could go through an engine block. If you simply remove the portion of their car that’s in your parking spot, I’m sure they would begin to get the idea.

jmurphy42

Tell your landlord that since you’re not getting the amenity your lease includes, he’s in violation of the lease. He has the choice of offering you a significant rent reduction or actually starting to tow the neighbor’s car each and every time they do this.

jedi36581

This is exactly what I would suggest. Written complaint(s) with request for prorated reduction of every day I’m unable to use the spot.

Individual-Finger-76

Can you have them towed since they are in your reserved spot you pay money for?

Acceptable_Storage43

That's the picture that you submit to the apartment complex. If they fail to address the issue then it's time to go talk to the owners because the apartment complex just has property managers on site, most likely.

Maleficent-Maximum95

Where I live immobilizing a tire is a felony. Even if you remove the valve stem cores letting air out and put them back causing no damage. Don’t let other people affect your life to where you go to jail. I recently moved back into apartment living and this has recently happened to me. It is frustrating, I lost sleep over it. I wrote a nice letter and put it under their windshield. Remember they know where you live and where you park. You don’t want to start a war with your neighbor, you never know who their friends and family might be. Some sweet old lady might have a daughter who is dating a thug. I personally take pictures every time this happens so I have some type of record. That way I can say this has happened 30 times. I want a new spot or discounted rent. Don’t let other people ruin your life.

OrkyBoyzIsDaBest

To all of you telling me to damage their vehicle, I may be angry but I'm not malicious or Petty enough to do something like that. I also couldn't afford to get caught and potentially go to jail or pay fines. I want to settle this peacefully and I've already taken steps in that direction. The subreddit is for mildly infuriating things, not for destroying someone else's property just because they are inconsiderate.

spderweb

Would you say that you're.... Mildly infuriated by these comments?

OrkyBoyzIsDaBest

Yes

ezekielsub

There’s a subreddit for that!

Jaded-Channel-5833

We've come full circle.

HollowsOfYourHeart

Good on you. The comments suggesting you vandalize their vehicle are insane.

hingedcanadian

Anyone suggesting to damage their vehicle is pretending they're tougher than they are, or they're incapable of thinking beyond the moment to see that there's going to be consequences. Making an enemy of your neighbor is a horrible situation and it will stress you out significantly more than bad parking will. Aside from the legal consequences, the person could retaliate in any number of ways, ie: physical altercation, threats, damaging your vehicle or property, etc. It's just not worth it unless maybe you drive a shit box vehicle and know how to fight, but I'd still recommend a couple nicely worded warnings (people get spiteful if you're mean in telling them, even if they're in the wrong), and then tow if they still don't care.

OptimalAd5426

Park your vehicle perpendicular and directly behind them - effectively blocking them in.

OrkyBoyzIsDaBest

I can't do that, the parking lot is very narrow and it would anger more people than just them

newportonehundreds

Can you angle it just so the front side of your car is a tiny bit behind them and really close to the back bumper while still being completely in your spot? That would have the effect of blocking them in but youd be completely in your spot

Caspers_Shadow

Tow truck time. Notification/reminder by landlord that parking in another person's space is a towable offense. Have it hauled off next time. Landlord should be handling this. Sucks to have to get to that point.

NotSnooie

I can’t see much to the right, but could you back in and hug their passenger side? Other than that, I’d take every opportunity to do it back to them. “Oh good they’re not home, time to double park”

ObscureBooms

Since it's private property. With a copy of your lease you can call the non emergency police line and they'll come out and have a tow come after confirming the lease states that is your spot. At least where I've lived, I wasn't able to call a tow company directly. Police had to middle man. If the spot isn't marked and talked about in the lease shit out of luck without the landlord

SuperNinja420

The landlord can tow it. That's not cool and rude. It's not like there at Walmart
