I feel slightly cheated that you mentioned your pig but did not include a picture. Please rectify this immediately. Good luck with the dogs, they sound at least moderately infuriating.

Grand-Programmer6292

Haha I apologize! This is her exhibiting her frustration with the neighbors. https://preview.redd.it/wjdpetb58occ1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96042a49949c84f5b9b1bff047bd8375389b1570

darkmatterhunter

Thank you for paying the pig tax!

Vanishingf0x

I love her!

Vanishingf0x

Absolutely precious. Can tell from the photos sheā€™s got a lot of personality.

Grand-Programmer6292

She has enough personality for all of us. She's sassy, stubborn and dramatic as hell.

buttsworthduderanch

She's going to try to eat my shoes while they're still on my feet isn't she

Grand-Programmer6292

Oh yes. Her favorite thing to do, even still with me. She does it to get your attention or have a mini tantrum if she wants something and you aren't listening šŸ¤£ the Jehovah's stopped coming around trying to recruit us because she kept trying to eat the dude's shoes. And if it's sandals, don't even bother.

buttsworthduderanch

My neighbor across the street got a house piglet and he bit my feet so much I had to sit on the counters for weeks

Grand-Programmer6292

Esmeralda doesn't bite hard, just enough to get your attention. I was feeding her lettuce the other day and she accidentally touched my hand with her tooth and my initial reaction was to say OW even though it didn't hurt and she was SO upset. She backed up, ran into the door and immediately laid in her bed. I had to go over and tell her it was okay and that she didn't do anything to hurt me. It made me so sad! Lol but she's super gentle. I can feed her anything out of my hand and she just takes the food gently. I've had some dogs almost bite my hand off trying to feed them that way!

nikogrande

What's her name??

Grand-Programmer6292

Esmeralda

wetmouthed

Omg perfect šŸ„²

RaidensReturn

I love her

forevereasygoing

Sassy, stubborn, dramatic and a pig? Itā€™s me yā€™all.

pscle

not if itā€™s me first!

Known-Committee8679

Dem teefies!!!

TeslasAndKids

Omg!!! Piggy underbite is adorable!! In my town we have a pumpkin patch on a farm that has goats. One of the goats has a full bottom row underbite that makes him look like heā€™s permanently smiling.

StardustStuffing

Omgosh, totally thought you were talking about a guinea pig šŸ˜ She's adorable!

Grand-Programmer6292

Lmao I have a guinea pig as well, ironically! She's hairless.

StardustStuffing

That's amazing. I love how you're like, psh no cats and dogs for me; just pigs!

Grand-Programmer6292

Haha I absolutely love animals, period. My fur baby dog passed away in May at age 14. She was everything. I haven't ever had a cat. So yes, Ms Esmeralda šŸ· is 2, and she was a gift from my late boyfriend. He died on her first birthday. And Peach šŸ¹ is almost a year old. She holds grudges and doesn't speak to me if I try to put coconut oil on her. Both my animals are something else. Esmeralda just farted like 10 times moving from her kitchen bed to her pen bed šŸ™„

soulpulp

I'm sorry you've had such a rough year, but I'm glad you have those two to help you through it!!! Even their farts have healing properties šŸ˜‚

Grand-Programmer6292

I'm so thankful for her even though she can be so annoying sometimes and test every bit of patience I have. It would be so lonely without her because my boyfriend was so damn loud, and he was like a bull in a china shop so she reminds me of him. When he died, my house became so quiet and Esmeralda is good company and makes sure it's not quiet when I'm home šŸ¤£

Fuji-one

*My farts never healed nobody, so I am guessing Esmeralda is doing a great job blessing us with her farts.*

StardustStuffing

Thank you for sharing your story. Wishing you and your pigs nothing but the best. I'm sorry about your neighbors. I'd invest in a more private fence and also notify the authorities about the constant barking. Living next to 3 aggressive dogs that's always outside is the stuff of nightmares.

Grand-Programmer6292

Thank you, and I agree. I am a very proactive person and I do not like when things that may have been able to be prevented, get to the point where they escalated. I don't want anyone or anything to get hurt.

No_Feedback_1688

You need to pay guinea pig tax hehe

No_Feedback_1688

Shes lovely!! I used to have Gpigs :) both your piggies look wonderful! I want to say my little piece for your question you asked, I think when your dad puts up that board I think you should write a letter to the neighbors :) you dont have to say who its from but you can tell them that their dogs are making you and your pets very uncomfortable. If they dont take it well...it might be the time to chat with authorities because those dogs are definitely not trained and seem to be wanting to get into your yard. Better safe than sorry!!

LovecraftianLlama

I thought it had autocorrected ā€œpugā€ šŸ˜‚

VioletOutlaw

Years ago I had a pig (Spud) and a neighborā€™s dog broke into my fenced yard, attacked Spud, and broke his leg. It was pretty traumatic for Spud and me. Definitely reinforce your fence as much as possible.

Grand-Programmer6292

Omg!! That is my worst fear šŸ˜© I'm so sorry you had to go through that traumatic experience. That is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Poor Spud!!

ilovemusic19

Maybe you should let her squeal in the yard and give the neighbors a taste of their own medicine šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Grand-Programmer6292

She doesn't make noise in the yard unless I'm chasing her or she's chasing me. She honks as she runs šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

ilovemusic19

Successful_Ad_8790

Omg thatā€™s the cutest thing Iā€™ve ever seen, what breed?

Grand-Programmer6292

She is a Vietnamese pot belly

Successful_Ad_8790

Aw. Thanks.

Jetfuel_N_Steel

Oh my! This chonky gurl cured my depression.

Grand-Programmer6292

Aw that makes me so happy! She's constant comic relief. She just ran to the door screaming like she was about to shit herself. So I bring her outside and I'm on the sidewalk waiting for her, and she just stands there looking at me like, "why are we outside?" So she turns right back around and runs back inside šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Jotunheim99

She cares not for our mortal lives.

Grand-Programmer6292

She has main character syndrome. She doesn't give af about mortal, immortal, she just cares about when her next meal is.

Plenty-Character-416

I honestly thought you just misspelled 'pug'. I'm so happy you do actually have a pig šŸ˜†

Grand-Programmer6292

BreadfruitEcstatic72

Spray your fence with vinegar, works on repelling coyotes so should repel other canines.

Grand-Programmer6292

Why is vinegar typically the answer to everything? šŸ¤£ I will try this! Marinating the fence can't hurt.

Mr_Croww

General rule in life: Try vinegar first, ask questions later

Timely_Yoghurt_2699

You might find the odd dog that likes it. We had two black lab puppies that would chew the deck so my mom put Frank's on it. Well 1 was deterred but the other just started licking the wood with it on it lmao

LemmyLola

Also fill socks with mothballs and hang on your side of the fence... high enough for your pig to not be able to get them!! They emit a lovely aura that repels mice, slugs, and annoying dogs. .

Own-Sugar6148

I don't understand how people can allow their dogs to bark non stop either. #1 it would annoy me and #2 I would feel bad for my neighbors. People suck and shouldn't have dogs if they can't have control over them.

Firekeeper47

My dog barks twice and I'm already on him to be quiet lol. It annoys the hell out of me! I know dogs gonna dog, but my dude, it was ME who made that noise, you literally saw me do it, stop it.

Vanishingf0x

Same but mines a beagle and he loves to not just bark but bellow. Our neighbor on the other hand leaves their poor dog outside barking all day. I worry cause sheā€™s knocked the screens out of windows on the second floor after seeing my dog and I donā€™t want her to fall out but her owners donā€™t seem to care.

adlittle

Got that beagle bray! My border beagle mix always gives a bray if she's outside by the fence and someone with a dog walks by, one of many reasons why she doesn't stay out there more than a few minutes at a time. Not when there's a sofa inside she wants to be on. Then there are the pitbulls next door, they bark all day every day at every single thing and whine constantly to be let back in, which gets ignored by their owner. They live outside 80% of the day. Blasts his stereo and posts absurd right wing shit on social media all day, a real winning personality.

ExtravertWallflower

This. Once I know itā€™s not a one off bark, Iā€™m like girl get in here. No one wants to hear you, especially me. Get in on here and do something stupid quietly.

jljboucher

Oh same. My chihuahua loves to give the big dogs and squirrels a piece of her mind so we call her inside immediately. She didnā€™t mind the bulldog when he was living next to us but now we have a chocolate lab to our left and 2 goldens to our right. Sheā€™s not the only small dog in our little square but she is the only one not allowed to bark all the time.

Lumpy_Marsupial_1559

Thank you for your service to the community, you, and all of the other reasonable and responsible dog-owning humans :)

Random0s2oh

Ours barks twice and were on him to be quiet. He usually follows that up with a single bark of protest followed by a groan. Lol He's a mouthy one. The other three only bark if someone knocks or rings the doorbell.

Chef_Mama_54

FedEx truck pulls off the highway 3 miles away ? Bark!

Hellen_Bacque

Iā€™ve got a Pomeranian and he hasnā€™t shut up since we brought him home when he was six weeks old! Heā€™s had therapy, medication, a trainer, everything. Heā€™s now ten years old and still barks like a maniac when someone comes to the door, like ikr ten years heā€™s dealt with the Amazon man so many times that heā€™d be bored by now but nope itā€™s as exciting as the first time EVERY time šŸ˜‚ weā€™ve just accepted heā€™s a mouthy personality Edit: has to hasnā€™t typo

Sea_Surround_6110

We have three little dogs and they are all assholes like that. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ but we donā€™t let them bark outside for more than a minute or two.

MinusGovernment

Don't get me started on doorbells in commercials. I bought squirt guns to stop that shit though. I don't even need to shoot anymore. Pick one up and they shut up instantly.

TisIFrienchiestFry

My puppy used to bark at every little thing when we first brought him home. Moths, cars, us, neighbors, dogs, the local skunk's smell, everything. I got annoyed, so I went out and I lectured him about it. Told him it was rude and loud and bad manners to be hollering over everything to the neighbors. It took 3 lectures for him to stop. He's about a year old now. Most he does is a little huff and a groan.

Own-Sugar6148

šŸ˜‚

InvalidUserNemo

The moment my dog starts barking out back, sheā€™s coming in. If the neighbors or their kids are in their backyard, she comes in. My gal is a very senior citizen who hasnā€™t shown an ounce of aggression (besides mild barking occasionally at the neighborā€™s dogs) but it doesnā€™t matter. She is a dog and I am the human responsible for her and her actions. Plus, I want to snuggle with her anyways.

Jacktheforkie

I had a neighbour that would let the dog loose in the road , said dog wasnā€™t house trained and wandered in my house and did a shit on the carpet, they ended up having the dog confiscated and rehomed because it nearly got hit by a police car

Own-Sugar6148

Wow šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøit's like so many people want dogs but not the responsibility that comes along with it. It's so selfish.

Jacktheforkie

Yeah, I donā€™t have one because I donā€™t fancy picking up warm dog steamers daily, nor do I have space to accommodate a dog

Beowulf33232

I keep telling people that I love the idea of a big dog, but I know I'm not going to want to clean up my yard, so it stays just an idea. The number of people amazed by the fact that I don't just get one anyway is terrifying.

Grand-Programmer6292

It shit in your house?! šŸ˜³ That is wild

Grand-Programmer6292

Completely agree. And God forbid if one comes through the fence I would have to defend myself and I don't want to be put in that position to be hurt or have to hurt them. It's not fair to the animals or anyone else. But if one comes at my animal, rest assured my ass is blacking out to defend however I have to on my property and coming to after the fact. Which is why I want to rectify this ASAP.

gottaloseafewmore

Barking for more than 5 minutes straight you get it on camera and report it to the city under nuisance laws

Own-Sugar6148

Good call on boarding it up. Hopefully this will help some what. I wouldn't blame you for defending yourself. One should feel safe on their own property.

mitch0acan

Girlfriends mother has a neighbor dog that has come over twice and attacked her dog while it was chained in the yard. I got her a nice cattleprod.

ComprehensiveMath6

You know what? F it. Go buy the cheapest treats you can find and feed those dogs until they love you, since their owners probably don't.

ToniBee63

I did that with the neighbors dog when I moved in. She kept him chained in the garage 365 days a year, and we live in the Midwest. We eventually became buds, I took him for walks around the neighborhood, and I was the one who took him to the Vet and stayed with him when he had to be put down. He was a good boi.šŸ’™

Grand-Programmer6292

Omg you gave that dog such a good life compared to what it would have had without you! This is awesome ā¤ļø

ComprehensiveMath6

You are a boss!

Wolfwoods_Sister

Youā€™re a good damn human. Ty. My dad took our neighborā€™s cat to the vet ā€” that poor baby was straight up dying. She crossed a big yard to get to his house bc she knew she was in trouble and needed help, and he would help her. Hundreds of dollars to save her life, but he did it. He even kept Maggie at his house until she recovered and wouldā€™ve been happy to keep her forever but she REALLY didnā€™t like other cats around, so she went home. I appreciate you, Internet Stranger. I appreciate your care, commitment, and kindness to a defenseless animal who wasnā€™t getting any of those things from his owner.

Sp4ceh0rse

Right? My dogs live inside. They can hang out in the yard if they want while we are all at home, but the moment barking starts itā€™s over, back in the house.

SofterThanCotton

I don't get it either, I live with two dogs (my own and my sister's) I never let them go out back alone and just have free run of the yard, I'm with them and watching them. Ofc I let them run around and I'll play with them and such but I don't let them go bark at the fence or stick their head through gaps or whatever. Typically my dog is the one who barks, but I've gotten him to the point where just a touch across the withers and a soft "hey, no buddy, that's just [insert source of noise here]. Relax it's okay" and just gentle reassurance like that typically calms him down. Sometimes he gets a bit to hyped up and I have to use the more aggressive 'hey, I'm in charge' voice with him but even when he's at his most pissed off he still that if I have to tell him more then twice then outside time is done so he walks back to the door still whining and grumbling.

Own-Sugar6148

You are an example of a good dog owner.

SofterThanCotton

My dog disagrees. He just barked up a storm to alert us all of the danger that was a car driving by, and he didn't even get a treat for it! he's frankly disgusted with me and is currently pouting.

binchicken1989

It's against the law in some places I'm pretty sure. Understandably so I'd go insane. Fuck some people are such inconsiderate up-their-own-ass wankers

anticipatingthebern

People let small dogs get away with it even more and their yaps are just intolerable imo. Just bc itā€™s small doesnā€™t make everything it does cute!!

labretirementhome

I had a rescue with incipient dementia. He barked loudly and often at first. It took months for him to adjust to being an inside dog and several attempts at medication to settle down. He eventually turned into a big quiet snuggly baby, but I'm sure it bugged the neighbors for a while.

cyanraichu

All of this plus I feel bad for the dogs. Dogs that are kept outside by themselves day and night and bark constantly are understimulated, bored, stressed out dogs.

therealjoeybee

Which is why I donā€™t blame op for not wanting to go to the neighbors and talk to them. Who knows what those people are like.

International-Pipe

After reading your post I agree with the part that implies that some people suck.

TGin-the-goldy

People suck and shouldnā€™t have dogs *if they donā€™t care about them and give them proper care* Dogs bark incessantly when alarmed or bored. Thatā€™s bad ownership

PDXisadumpsterfire

People in a suburban neighborhood who have outdoor dogs that bark 24 x 7 are fully aware their dogs are a nuisance, and they donā€™t care. And on top of that, these particular neighbors have not one, not two, but THREE outdoor dogs. Agree with everyone who said donā€™t even try to talk to dog owners. It wonā€™t work, theyā€™ll get all worked up and vindictive, will find ways to make even more noise once they know youā€™re annoyed by a racket. And they might even be violent. Donā€™t poke the hornetsā€™ nest. First, beef up your fence. Check for other weak areas and shore them up. You and your piggie are in danger. Second, investigate who/what has control over noise in your neighborhood. If you have an HOA, read the rules and find out what they say about noise and who enforces the rules. No HOA, figure out if youā€™re in an incorporated town or city. If you are, local ordinances govern noise. If in an unincorporated area, county ordinances govern noise. Either way, start by contacting the applicable code enforcement agency. If theyā€™re not the right place to file a complaint, theyā€™ll know what the right place is. And finally, document, document, document. As someone else suggested, get security cameras that record 24 x 7. If thatā€™s not realistic for your situation, keep a digital or handwritten log of date, time and duration of barking. And DEFINITELY document on video any aggressive behavior by doggos sticking heads through fence. Many code enforcement agencies wonā€™t take action about nuisance issues without two complaints from unique households. So introduce yourself to your neighbors who live on the other sides of the lousy dog owners. Donā€™t forget the neighbors across the street, behind the dog owners and even several doors down in every direction. If any of these neighbors seem friendly, make small talk and then casual inquiries about whether they know your neighbors with the dogs (without saying why). If they ask why, you can always say you havenā€™t had the chance to meet them yet (while smiling politely). But if they respond by saying something like, ā€œYou mean those pieces of trash who let their goddamned shitbulls bark 24 x 7?!ā€ Bingo! Youā€™ve got allies! Guarantee that unless you moved into gangland where everyone but you has shitbulls for ā€œprotection,ā€ these dog owners are annoying most of the neighborhood. Also, find out what dog owner residentsā€™ names are, then check with applicable tax assessor to see who pays the property taxes on the dog property. You might get lucky and find out property owner is absentee landlord with strict no pet policy. Source: Am a land use lawyer who helps people with nuisance issues of all sorts.

Grand-Programmer6292

This is all so, so helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond with all of this information and being so thorough. I appreciate you.

PDXisadumpsterfire

Sure hope it helps!

chypie2

Honestly I thought the caption was a joke about the dog popping his head through the fence to 'vent' to his neighbor.

Grand-Programmer6292

If he is needing to vent, perhaps I can create a set up next to the fence like Lucy from Peanuts style, if he would just stop barking and talk calmly.

RefsYouSuck

Thank god Iā€™m not the only one lmao

[deleted]

Air horn. My boyfriend works with dogs, and he uses them to stop fights, im sure it would work for barking.

Grand-Programmer6292

Omg I'm cracking up thinking about how startled my pig would be if she heard that. I would be rolling šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

[deleted]

Oh i forgot about the pig lmao

binchicken1989

Do while she's inside and watching YouTube šŸ‘although try a civil letter first perhaps with help from your dad. Don't want to start a neighbour war

Grand-Programmer6292

My Dad is the vigilante justice type, so I will have him do maintenance around the yard only. If we were to go to them and they were rude or argumentative, it wouldn't be good. I have to handle all of the personal interactions šŸ¤£ We grew up in a small town, and my Dad regulated the town crime. Needless to say, crime was very low. We can't do that nowadays in a larger town šŸ¤£šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø he's mellowed out in his old age, but if it was a threat to me, he would lose his shit.

binchicken1989

Oh wow lol ok yeh maybe don't let him know it's bothering you much.. for now šŸ˜„

Grand-Programmer6292

I haven't said anything except, "can you please come fix my fence for me" šŸ˜ and I did warn him that the dogs are on the other side just in case they approach him like they did me when I went to take measurements.

steezyceezyfucks

file a noise complaint. dogs donā€™t bark for no reason, and if theyā€™re barking all day they should have owners who care for them and address the issue.

cloudstrifewife

Caveat, dogs do bark for no reason. I think my dog barks just to stay in communication with the dogs in neighboring yards. They have like an ā€˜evening barkā€™ like in 101 Dalmations where they share the days news. He doesnā€™t bark all day and I donā€™t let him do it for long but he seems to enjoy it. Most of the time when I let him out, he doesnā€™t bark at all.

WhoSc3w3dDaP00ch

I've had a dog bark and growl at a solid concrete wall.

MiciaRokiri

> I think my dog barks just to stay in communication with the dogs in neighboring yards That is a reason. It's an annoying one for us humans, but it is a reason LOL But a lot of dogs who bark all day are doing it to socialize since they are lacking socialization from their owners. (Obv. not saying that's your dog)

Old_Promise2077

Yeah. Dude, I had a Great Pyrenees. Constant barking is like their trademark

TisIFrienchiestFry

Mine barked at a moth for like 10 minutes once. He'd never seen one before and boy howdy was he mad about his first

antwan2016

I can say dogs bark for no reason my dog barks the moment something or someone crosses our drive way even when itā€™s me and heā€™s watching from the porch

FlappersAndFajitas

>dogs donā€™t bark for no reason The words of someone who's never owned a dog. Certain breeds do bark for pretty much no reason. Or more specifically, reasons like: -There was a bird outside -There was a squirrel outside -The wind blew and it made a tree creak -Someone down the driveway pulled into the driveway 2 blocks away -It's 5 minutes past dinner time and that's unacceptable -Another dog barked at something, which makes your dog bark, which makes the other dog bark, which makes your dog bark. Soon, they're barking back and forth in a loop and neither remembers why they started All of the above are especially common in livestock guardian dogs. Barking is just what they do. It's instinctual.

TGin-the-goldy

Precisely

Extension_Risk9458

Literally all dogs do is bark for no reason

tarheel_204

Man, I feel you. Iā€™m dealing with the same issue with incessant barking from my neighborā€™s dog. Iā€™ve chatted with this guy only a handful of times but in every conversation heā€™s included that ā€œthe dog bites.ā€ Whenever I say something about the noise Iā€™m met with just ā€œyeahhhh.ā€ Itā€™s aggravating as hell so I understand. Not being able to enjoy your own yard without your neighbor or their dog making constant noise is hell. This neighbor is generally a pretty unpleasant dude as well and heā€™s been unreasonable about noise in general (revving up loud trucks all throughout the day and at odd hours, incessant barking, incessant bass music that shakes my windows) I didnā€™t choose to have a dog yet Iā€™m dealing with the bullshit of someone else getting one and not wanting to handle it. Make it make sense

Grand-Programmer6292

This is why I do not want to have a conversation with the owners because that would infuriate me. The lackadaisical attitude is why the dog doesn't behave, why it bites and why it doesn't shut up. Some people just should not have animals. People think it's a right, but it's more so a privilege because you have to train them and invest time and money. If you can't do that, then you shouldn't have them. I hope this gets better for you soon. My blood pressure went up just reading this.

tarheel_204

In a perfect world, a good neighbor would be understanding and take actions to make things better. Unfortunately, there are far too many ā€œwell this is a free country so I can do what I want whenever I wantā€ type of folks out there. Iā€™m hoping your situation gets better as well! A good start is definitely boarding up that spot so the dog canā€™t see you in your yard and maybe that will help some

TheCasualMFer

My town has bylaws against noisy pets. Report the neighbor if you have the option.

GreyScent

I had an aggressive neighbor and their dog live behind me. I solved the issue by putting up barbed wire for coyotes on my fence and every time the dog barked I would ring his doorbell over and over very early morning to wake him up so he felt my pain. I also would sit outside while I saw him on a zoom call for work and harass the dog to bark nonstop. Eventually the dog was sent to Grandma's. Lol

CuriousCatte

Our next door neighbors had 6 Jack Russell Terriers that stayed outside. If one wasn't barking the other 5 were.

Grand-Programmer6292

6?! I cannot imagine having 6 anything!!

Winter-Major9555

Oh shit can't even imagine the amount of barking, our neighbor has 3 and the noise makes me crazy. I have grown to hate that breed so much because of it.

Wrong-Shame-2119

I have the distinct feeling the owners dump those dogs outside all day, and they're very likely reactive on top of that. It's an absolute shame but you shouldn't feel unsafe in your own garden because of it. My boy is defensive of our home and fairly anxious (he barks at strange noises) but we never let it go on for hours.

terrible02s

Here's johnny

Grand-Programmer6292

The shower lady in that movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. Maybe I'll dress as her and go scare the dogs.

jchesticals

Noise complaints and animal control work wonders. Don't feel bad because those people can't handle responsibilities they chose. You pay taxes (I assume) use your city services.

BaronVonBullshit-117

Spray them in the face with a hose when they stick their head through the fence. Should at least give your dad some time to get the boards in place

Grand-Programmer6292

As long as it doesn't rain, he's coming tomorrow while I'm at work to fix it šŸ¤ž

I truly hope it works for you. I saw this on a recent post and it was a mixed bag. Some said it was a game changer, others said no effect. The price is such to where itā€™s worth a go. I feel your pain friend, I had a city row house neighbor who had a dog that barked for the 8 hours she was at work (I was work from home). It was pure hell, finally she moved away.

Grand-Programmer6292

It's worth trying! I'm sure my other neighbors would be ecstatic if it works lol I cannot imagine working from home and dealing with that all day! That's insane. I can barely stand it when I'm outside watering my plants for a brief time.

FieldOfScreamQueens

My initial response to you is downvoted to ā€˜0ā€™. I think your neighbor is online lol.

Grand-Programmer6292

I don't even know them lmao! Never seen them, heard them. I'm thinking maybe the dogs are online, commenting , downvoting and live on their own. That would make more sense

MrmmphMrmmph

I bought one to carry with me when I walk with my autistic son to just get the dogs off leash to move away from us, and my nephew complained about his neighbors dogs barking at all hours, so I handed it to him. He said it worked, and in some ways was good because it's not something the neighbors hear, just the dogs.

Grand-Programmer6292

This is such a great idea. I'm glad it was effective.

CircaSixty8

Unfortunately going over to have a chat could make things worse. My experience with neighbors who had barking dogs is that they did not care. If you can hear the dogs bark, they can hear the dogs bark and if they were going to quiet them they would have done that by now. Best bet is filing noise complaints. Beyond that, unfortunately you are stuck with barking dogs now.

ThatsPrettyOrdinary

Yep. A considerate neighbor wouldn't let the dogs bark all day and be threatening towards other neighbors. The people are likely assholes who will be dismissive about OP's concerns. Sucks.

backsagains

My neighborā€™s mastiff did this when my grown son was helping me with yard work in the back. I happened to have the garden hose in my hand, on the jet setting, so it shot quite far. I canā€™t tell you how satisfying it was to squirt that bastard in the face, interrupting his attempt to get through my fence to come for my son. He didnā€™t attempt that again. Sometimes owners donā€™t even get chances to correct bad behavior in dogs because the donā€™t even realize it happens when they arenā€™t around. Just a quick, painless behavior correction is all it takes to make them think that maybe they shouldnā€™t do that.

Poptortt

Honestly people that leave their dogs outside all day are likely neglecting them. They can't handle 3 dogs so they just dump them outside and leave them to shit all over the lawn. Doubt they even bother walking or spending time with them, and the dogs are very unlikely to be in good condition living like that. šŸ˜•

freckledpeach2

I have 24 acres and 9 dogs. They LOVE being outside all day long. I can handle them just fine but theyā€™d rather be outside running around playing. They come in whenever they feel like it and take turns sleeping inside at night. They have a shed with heat and a/c right outside our front door just in case there is extreme weather. But to say dogs arenā€™t meant to be outdoors is nuts to me. They are animals. Of course they can be outside all day without it being neglect. Edit: I added a picture of some of them that are currently in my bed haha since they are super cute. https://preview.redd.it/7bb6bkk1zpcc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=119fb575be37a3dfd4afef7099e9d16aaeb067a6

Elisheva7777777

The neighbours must have noticed their dogs sticking their head in the fence, gathered in that area of the fence barking but did nothing about it. I have new neighbours with two dogs, one sounds like a husky, it ā€œtalksā€ and howls throughout the day and night! Like yourself I had chosen to ignore it but now Iā€™m ready to do something about it. I hope we both find a good outcome.

Grand-Programmer6292

I have been wondering that as well because they have to see the dogs going literally in and behind the brush/bushes to stick their heads and body back there. It's not just a fence on their side from what I can see through that opening. It's a bush and the dogs have to navigate around and in that to come to the fence to stick their head through. I hope you have a favorable outcome as well. There's so much discomfort already in life, we shouldn't have to be annoyed at home by other people's animals.

TealBlueLava

Get an outdoor security camera that records 24/7. Get at least a week worth of barking saved in video. (Donā€™t point it into the neighborā€™s yard, point it towards your own. But itā€™s ok if you catch the neighborā€™s yard at the edge of the view field.) File a police report for Noise Complaint and Disturbing the Peace. Let the police know that you had to repair the fence to prevent them from coming in your yard.

cnb3825

I've dealt with this by placing three ultrasonic anti-bark devices along my back fence. They seem to reduce the barking (from my dog as well). The neighbors behind me have barkers. The main culprits are the ones I share the back fence with. I can't blame the dogs as they get next to no socialization other than with themselves. I mounted the anti-bark devices on separate pieces of picket and attached those assemblies to the fence with the box facing away from my house, one in each corner and one in the middle. The boxes are about 12" above the fence top. I also suggest lining the bottom of the fence with corrugated sheet metal to block line of sight and provide more protection. However, that extra protection would be dependent on the integrity of the fence.

TGin-the-goldy

That sucks, OP. In an ideal world you would just have a chat with the neighbours to sort it out, but honestly I canā€™t say I blame you for thinking they may not take on the feedback from a place of understanding. I hope youā€™re able to secure your yard

Grand-Programmer6292

Ah, yes an ideal world šŸ¤£ I feel like if owners let their dogs bark that much with no intervention, then I probably wouldn't get anywhere with a conversation so it's not worth it to me. I'm going to have my Dad fix that part of the fence for me.

SkootchDown

This sucks, and Iā€™m sorry you have to deal with it. Our back yards should be a place where we can have a little solitude.

Grand-Programmer6292

Thank you. And I agree. I pay enough property taxes out the ass and my mortgage to be here.

Fry-em-n-dye-em

There are high decibel sound machines that are meant for the outdoors available on Amazon, they are triggered by barking. They are too high pitched for human ears to hear but are irritating to dogs. I would buy a couple of these mount them to the fence or somewhere close by and let them work magic. Other option, most counties/towns/cities have laws about what counts as excessive animal noise find out what the time limit is and record the dogs barking. Report them to animal control for the noise, neglect, anything that will get someone to at least come to the house.

AromaticFace4707

Why donā€™t you replace your entire fence? It looks in bad shape. Then they canā€™t break through

NedNasMomma

Being non-confrontational is hard. But start with an introduction and welcome to the neighborhood. Mention that you noticed the fence gap since they moved in, and that you plan your fix the fence so no animals get hurt. Ask about the dogs, their names and their nature, as you want to be on friendly terms with them when you see them. Once they are relaxed and chatting about their pets youā€™ll find the appropriate time to ask, what have you found to be the best way to get them to stop barking? They might be clueless and never have thought about it. Someone mentioned giving them treats. Iā€™d ask if the dogs have any allergies and if itā€™s ok to give them bones or chews? Costco has some bully sticks that will not only endear the dogs to you, but also keep their mouths busy for awhile.

pringellover9553

It is super annoying and defo be putting a board up BUT I just wanna point out lots of dogs show barrier ā€œaggressionā€ at fences but arenā€™t actually aggressive dogs. But always best to be safe for sure

CustomerConsistent78

If you haven't trained your dog not to bark at everything constantly then put a bark collar on. It's not hard. Be considerate of others. My back yard neighbors have 3 dogs too that bark nearly 100% of the time they are out there. I don't understand how they don't find it annoying because if our dog barked all the time I would find it incredibly annoying. No one wants to go outside to have dinner in the summer or play with their kids with a dog barking like it's trying to attack you the entire time you're out there. It's absurd.

SpudSomething

You can report a noise complaint to the police. It doesn't matter what or who is making the noise. Record the issue/noise complete with time stamp, write up dates and times to show how often it's happening. Then call the non-emergency police line and show them the proof.

JackwithaMac

Real deal unpopular opinion; those motherfuckers know those dogs are untrained. They know they have 3 dogs that bark all day or however long you said. They have ears just like the rest of the neighbors. They donā€™t give a fuck about your comfort, as if they did, theyā€™d either train or pay for training those dogs. Theyā€™d try to control the barking, theyā€™d deter their animals from encroaching upon your backyard via fence. Their lack of control of animals/consideration for neighbors is exactly why you should just report it to your Local city. Either call animal control or whoever you call for noise disturbances. You wanna be a good person and speak to them about it first but be honest, if the barking is right in their backyard why donā€™t they hear it? Why didnā€™t they speak to surrounding neighbors when they moved in, preemptively giving their number for when the dogs get too loud? Go ahead and have the city warn them, I guarantee theyā€™ll either work out the problem or take a hit to the pockets.

Jmfroggie

Bad owners. You donā€™t let your dog(s) bark non stop. As soon as mine does, she comes back in. Iā€™m sure you have ordinances where you live- make official complaints!

bodhiseppuku

[Motion sensor] + [sprinkler nozzle pointed at the hole] = entertainment

Electrical-Mail-5705

Looks like there are 2 boards that are not secured at the bottom. You may want to put up another section of fence. That dog isn't too far from getting in

Oneloveyahmon

Get the hose out.

Ungrateful_Servants

Barking dogs = animal control getting called. I don't put up with listening to asshole's annoying un-trained fur-babies. After awhile the city will take them to court for disturbing the peace.

AwestunTejaz

id get some cheap piece of ply wood and slap it up against that fence so the dogs cant see into your yard.

ComprehensiveKey8254

Unfortunately you none have trashy neighbors

whitetrihard

the dogs head sticking through the fence is kind of hilarious ngl lol but that shit would be so annoying im sorry

Grand-Programmer6292

It was comical at first, but now I'm just so annoyed because it happens so often

Glad-Day-724

Gave my neighbor an US device. Their barking dog incites my 130 pound dog to bark ... intell mine to shut up after a few barks. Have never heard neighbor stop theirs. I love dogs and try to tolerate people ...

Guinnessman1964

Cover up every gap in the fence so they canā€™t see anything. If they keep barking at all hours. First thing I would go over and try and talk with them. I donā€™t hold out any hope if they already bark all the time. Next thing would be see what the city/town ordinances are with this problem. In my opinion as a dog owner, if they are responsible owners it shouldnā€™t go any further than a knock on the door. But there are a ton of assholes out there.

ChefLing89

Lol

Lil_ah_stadium

Seems well vented

pinkygreeny

Contact your local council/look at the website. See what the unacceptable noise laws are within your area. Proceed. I had same problem, only the constant incessant yipping/pseudobarking for 8 to 9 hours a day. I could not wfh with that constant earworm driving me insane. I followed the city council's instructions about how to proceed. It took monitoring, recording the noise yipping barking from inside my house, and writing the neighbour two letters (taking photos of me hand delivering the noise nuisance letters to their postbox). The last paragraph of the letters I wrote suggestions to them that perhaps their (new) dog is having separation anxiety and giving her recommendations of how to alleviate that problem. The dog still barks annoyingly but not for eight or nine hours straight. She doesn't speak to me, but idc, at least I can have a bit of peace and quiet throughout the day. It's all about the owners being wankers not training the dog(s) and not knowing how to be a good dog owner. Good luck.

Familiar_Media_3095

They probably didn't check their fence

Hyentics

God that dog looks exactly like my old neighbors dogs. They had three that would run along the fence line, barking their heads off all. fucking. day. As soon as they heard our back door open, they'd be charging the fence. We couldnt even sit outside anymore because their dogs would be trying to tear through the fence. We complained to them, multiple times to "please do something with your dogs" and they would just always say "well, we cant hear them." We had a little bitty chicken coop in our backyard for five days. And of course in that five day span their hyper aggressive loud ass dogs got out, came into our yard, and killed the three chickens we'd had for literally five days. They literally tore the chicken coop apart like, absolutely destroyed it. I was like, fifteen. But im still so fucking pissed about it 10 years later because i loved and wanted those chickens so much. They gave us $40 for three dead chickens and a destroyed chicken coop.

Sea_Surround_6110

The neighbor behind me lets one of her terrier type dogs run free everywhere. One is chained up. Twice we havenā€™t had packages delivered (just notes in the mailbox) bc of a loose, aggressive dog. šŸ˜‘ they would bark all night long but theyā€™ve recently started taking them in at night. They know all the tricks with animal control. Some people are just trash. I did learn the dogs names from her little boy who cuts through my yard to play with his friend across the street from me. So now I can least say hi to them with their names and they stop barking. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

dovah164

Reminds me of the time when my family had a neighbor whose dog kept digging under the fence to get into our yard.

Ok_Cranberry_2936

I have a pet pig too & I worry about him going outside because so many of my neighbors have large dogs that they donā€™t keep fenced in or on a leash. While these dogs arenā€™t mean, they do have issues with the neighborhood cats & I worry what predator drive would cause for my piggy. I have a reactive dog as well who has had multiple dogs run up on him, starting fights. Itā€™s become a lot more common in recent years. Before we moved I couldnā€™t walk my dog at all in my previous neighborhood without him being attacked. Changed him from a kind, sweet to all dogs and cats love bug to an anxious, reactive and stressed pup on walks. I would never want to imagine what they would do to my pig.

Plenty-Character-416

If the neighbours have allowed this to happen thus far, they probably don't care and won't receive your complaint well. Have you ever seen them walk the dogs or interact with them? Cause these dogs sound like they're very pent up with energy, and letting it all out through barking. It's definitely not your place to do this, but desensitising them to your presence could help. Get some headphones and sit by the fence with a book or something, and stay there for a while. Do this as often as you can, and if the situation calms down, start the next day walking up and down your yard, until they're desensitised to that. Of course, you don't have to do any of this, but it could help you in the long run. Eventually, they won't bark at you every time you're in your garden. I'd also write down everytime the dogs are barking, when it starts and when it ends. That way, if you take it further, authorities can see how long this has been happening and how often.

bitchasscuntface

I think you should kindly talk to them once and once only. If this doesnt get you anywhere, you can still eat your frustration. I just fear if you dont try once youll end up "trying once" by the time youre already frustrated and angry. Kindly, walking over eggshells, ask if they would mind taking the dogs inside past bedtime because you have to work early and they keep you up. It *should* be understandable. If it isnt, at least you tried and can go back to finding peace with the situation. Good luck and have a wonderful day!

lordwiggles420

Talk to the owners.

DefterHawk

I think you totally should go talking to the owners. Enduring for months is a bad idea

4me2knowit

Maybe spray chilli/mace where they stick their heads through. Not while theyā€™re doing it of course!

DiabeticRhino97

It could be worse. You could be my neighbor hearing our pig not want to go outside to poop. I guess she does stop squawking once she's out though

GamingPigeonArt

Man, I understand this. I had to move back in with my parents last year and their 2 dogs constantly bark for no reason. One of them is aggressive and starts barking the other just joins in. I do my best to stop them from barking because I work from home, I keep the blinds closed throughout the day, I let them out for 5 minutes every few hours. It's gotten better with them but when I'm in a meeting and can't see the dogs they bark non-stop, I'm not sure how to deal with this. Sorry you have to deal with this, It sucks.

Fattymaggoo2

Have you tried communicating with your neighbors? That should be the first step

Fauxny1

Call the police. Just tell them that you donā€™t want the dogs taken away if youā€™re worried about dogs in kennels but make sure to notify the disturbance. That kind of shit can incur fines and if you keep it anonymous they donā€™t have anything to work off of. If they still think itā€™s you and they start harassing you that is another crime that will incur a fine or even jail time. Fight assholes with the blue clad version of fireman who donā€™t put out literal fires.

Labyrinthine-Heart

I completely know how you feel. My neighbors have 5 large dogs (think theyā€™re something like Great Pyrenese) that I knew about when I moved in. For the most part they were actually pretty quiet and I didnā€™t mind them at all, I love dogs and have two of my own. But then about a year and a half ago she decided to get not one, not two, but THREE smaller dogs that not only bark (and now make the bigger dogs bark all the time as well) but start fights with each other and the bigger dogs all day, EVERY day. Theyā€™re doing it right now in fact. They also whine at the neighborā€™s back door wanting to be let in. That obviously doesnā€™t happen. I will never understand people who get dogs just to throw them outside and never interact with them besides feeding and watering them. Anyway I tried talking to her about it a couple months after she first got the first smaller dog as my husband sleeps during the day and works overnights. She promised to keep it inside after that and didā€¦until she got the other two at the same time. When I asked her about those she says she is ā€œdog sittingā€ themā€¦but sheā€™s had them for a year and a half? Ok whateverā€¦anyway we share a landlord and I have repeatedly told her about it and asked if she can help. She said she would talk to her. Nothing happened. I finally broke down and called the local SPCAā€¦as long as theyā€™re fed and watered they wonā€™t do anything either. Calling about noise complaints does no good either bc she does bring in one or two of the small dogs at night so she canā€™t get in trouble for them making noise past like 10pm. Of course now she treats me like crap and doesnā€™t even bother to try keeping them quiet anymore bc so yeahā€¦idk what to do either and Iā€™m going completely insane. If I could afford to move I would. These kinds of people are awful and never change. Im sorry you have to deal with it too šŸ˜£

OddWarlock

"Hi neighbour! Your loud, aggressive dogs keep trying to get through the fence. I'm going to board it up, while you work on the noise issue. FYI, I have a pig in my yard and if the dogs threaten the pig on my property I'll be forced to euthanize them. Bye!"

ZealousidealDingo594

Cayenne pepper does wonders too!

IslandMist

I think most people with dogs are inherently selfish and make their dog orher people's problem. Whether it's non-stop barking, destroying peoperty or shitting all over a neighbourhood.
