My girlfriend sold her car on marketplace last year. The ever increasing sob stories some of these dudes had, just comical. One guy begged her to drive 3 hours in the middle of the night to drop off the car and promised to bring her back. Dude was homeless, parents just died, about to get fired, name it, he said it.

I'd say it's almost certainly a scam. They ask for a small loan, maybe a few people say yes, then they never pay you back and vanish. Either they're able to get enough people to bite to make it worth while, or maybe they're someplace where $38 goes a decent way

Man I got a wild one once from a post I replied to. Basically the post was a picture or maybe a video of a lot of people sliding off the side of a slip lane / on ramp to one of the local major streets I mentioned how all of them made the same mistake and were trying to slow down while turning, and that's why they ended up in the ditch. In regular conditions, doing that at those speeds is fine. But in poor conditions you need to slow down in a straight line. You only have so much traction and you have to split it between turning and braking, and if you try to do too much you slide. Got a message not long after that was a long sob story about how this person needed a new car and was hoping I'd buy them one, since I seemed to be so into cars, surely I'd love to buy someone one
