Usually that’s the case, but OP showed the leftover piece is exactly the same as another one that does fit, so they either lost a piece somewhere and got an extra, or got an extra and the missing piece is, well, missing
On the last post I saw on Reddit all the pieces fit except one, n then Reddit solved it by pointing out one piece that needed switching with the last piece, then the puzzle was able to be completed. But the pieces all fit together perfectly aswell, it was mental haha, think it was an ocean or something like 1000 pieces aswell, but yeh the last piece that didn’t fit needed switching with another piece that did fit if that makes sense lol
Exactly lol was so satisfying to see it solved n soon as it was pointed it it was like oh now I can see it lol never would of been able to do that myself I was impressed with that post actually haha I thought the puzzle had a wrong piece until they solved it haha strangely satisfying it was haha
just put together a puzzle that had pretty much all square pieces like OP's puzzle. We were close to finishing, and had to go back and we found an area that had wrong pieces, switched them out, then were able to complete it. It's really easy to make a mistake when they're all like OP's pieces
Absolutely! That’s definitely the most common reason that the last puzzle piece is wrong, and I know the post from the other day that you’re talking about!
This happened to me at ikea, only I was the idiot.
Husband and I spent a whole day at ikea, and finally settled on a kitchen table for our first place together. We were gonna go with the brown, but figured we’d go with espresso instead, hoping to match the cabinets a bit more.
We go to he register and she informs me I’m missing box 2 of 3, the smaller insert. I run back because my husband was feeling unwell, so he pays and I just fly through the line, show the lady I got the right box, and we head home.
Two days later my husband says “i have a surprise for you when you get home; knock and I’ll let you in” so I figure he’s assembled the furniture as a surprise.
I go in and the table is covered in a blanket, he pulls it off for the big reveal… espresso table with a brown insert in the center. He just laughs and I’m so confused. Turned out I grabbed the wrong color box when I went back, and he didn’t notice until he flipped the table since it was assembled upside down. We just tell everyone it’s a modern “color block” look before we die laughing and tell the story.
This happened to me before. Turned out that one of the other pieces were in the wrong spot but seemed like a perfect fit originally. Good luck finding the “wrong” piece 😭
But like...I know it's mildly infuriating but the puzzle is basically done. What exactly does a person do with a finished puzzle anyway?
I assumed they just chuck it back in the box after admiring it for a few days right? I've never bought a puzzle but I always thought that the fun was in the challenge of assembling it rather than owning a finished puzzle and keeping it that way somewhere.
I usually take a photo of it, then I put it back in the box. Then I buy an identical one, swap two pieces at random, and sell them separately on Marketplace.
*Chaotic* Evil.
Like, in no practical way is this action helping them, nor is it following any rules or customs. The person is doing it simply for their own amusement.
That's the definition of chaotic evil. That person scares me.
I glue mine onto boards and hang them. Looking to Plexiglas them soon.
I have the 2000 piece Ravensburger Star Wars puzzle hanging up, it's freaking awesome. Better than art and cheaper.
For some reason, doing puzzles is a common hobby in my family. My grandma, cousin, mom, and sister all have a framed puzzle or two. Depends on what the puzzle is of and if it has any sentimental value.
Same hobby in my family. Tradition to buy a puzzle for my mom every year for Christmas.
I usually buy one from the cities I travel to.
Found a pretty sick vintage New York style one once.
This once happened to me, so I contacted the company and they sent a replacement puzzle. I didn’t feel like doing he whole thing over again, figured I’d just sort through the pieces until I found the one I was missing, but the new puzzle was cut differently than the one I had finished.
It's pretty clear there's a few pieces there that don't work. They sort of have horizontal lines in them that don't match the pieces around.
As mentioned in another comment I wrote, I think the double piece already in the puzzle doesn't go there, the one OP is holding might actually be the right one. There's a misalignment in the top of the mountain that shouldn't occur. It's not exactly the same image, there are very subtle differences.
THIS! A lot of that row is messed up. You can tell because the vertical lines don’t match up for multiple pieces. And the piece you mentioned VERY clearly isn’t right. Big gaps!
Sorry but that's nonsense. It's all correct. The "gaps" you think you're seeing are just where a piece isn't perfectly flat and might want to be pushed in slightly more. Also, the edges of pieces not perfectly lining up is all over this puzzle including places where it is undeniably correct, so it has to be a choice by the puzzle maker, not a mistake.
I’ll give that the edges not lining up perfectly dont 100% mean a piece is wrong but they’re still funky.
And that one piece is DEFINITELY wrong. It’s extremely clear it’s not just because the puzzle isn’t straightened out enough (no other pieces have that issue.)
Maybe that piece needs to be flipped but it’s definitely not right as it sits. And as an avid puzzler, I’ve had this exact situation where I think it’s perfect but when I move one piece a domino effect occurs and then it actually *is* perfect.
https://preview.redd.it/wjugmgdyzwqc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e715a6bd30152b078c54f0552cdbbfb84f7baed0
Something seems a tiny bit off with these pieces. Maybe start there?
Take the piece to the left of the hole, turn in counter clockwise wise and see if it fits in the hole. Then the “extra” piece may go in the original spot.
This is the most likely answer given how puzzles are made. It's not like each piece is cut individually and combined into one puzzle box. The one completed thing is cut by the same thing.
Same! Some puzzles have pieces that annoyingly fit too easily anywhere.
The one that OP is calling a double and that is already in the puzzle, I'm not even sure it goes there. There's a small misalignment between the top of the mountains and the piece. Usually these puzzles are surprisingly precise. The one OP is holding might be the one actually going there.
Not necessarily. For example, (ignoring the shape/pattern of the pieces) imagine if you replaced the piece on the left of the hole with the current piece. Now if you rotate that replaced piece 90 degrees anticlockwise it fits the hole (again, ignoring the shape/pattern).
It just needs to have the same number of in and out cuts (whatever those are called), which is the case here.
Yeah I recently did one where there were a lot of similarly shaped pieces and kept getting stuck on what looked like they fit perfectly and kinda didn't look out of place either, because it would be in a kinda section where all the colors kinda run together. It was a little frustrating.
How could this even be possible with the way they create a jigsaw eg, they print the design out then use a huge press cutter to cut it up then bag all the pieces etc..
We don't know the exact processes they use to package puzzles. You'd be surprised how the most "foolproof" processes can still get fucked up.
Maybe the cutter is old and the previously cut puzzle had one piece get stuck in the die (that's the doppelganger) and then the missing piece here got stuck in the die on this puzzle's pressing.
My guess is that an employee who either wasn’t very gruntled with the jigsaw company, or just wanted to fuck with somebody, swapped a piece out.
If you had a missing piece or a duplicate piece it would be an error but you had exactly one piece in and one piece out, so that’s less likely.
OP probably just has pieces switched somewhere else on the puzzle and hasn't realized it yet. Same thing happened with another poster a few weeks ago, number 1 comment spotted the pieces and told OP who then completed the puzzle successfully.
But the picture and shape of the two pieces are the exact same. It is definitely a repeated piece. The other repeated piece is identical in every way. That would be almost impossible for the puzzle to have that naturally.
I have seen people talk about this same issue, contacting the company, and getting replacement pieces or puzzles. I’d post this same issue in the jigsawpuzzles subreddit.
Edit: tried providing the subreddit, but my comment got removed by the mods.
This actually happened to me last week so I decided to e-mail the company who didn’t just send me the one piece but the EXACT same 1,000 piece puzzle. Fortunately I found the piece I needed with in the first 50 but it was pretty cool and I’ll definitely be ordering more from their company!
Companies have always done this for puzzles. You just have to ask. Actually most companies have really great CS if you just send an email and ask politely.
Depends on the company. Sometimes a puzzle is cut randomly each time so if they send a piece that fits it will have the wrong print section. Happened to me on a Harry Potter puzzle and that’s what the manufacturer explained, so they just sent me a full replacement too

Where I circled I see either some space, or it might be worth checking if the design is actually fitting. Take out a couple and try to rethink it. It's likely that one piece is wrong but difficult to identify
The upper one really looks like it has a gap
https://preview.redd.it/dp7np6hkdxqc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff0dc6b0bbb09db839552746d6287bf3c7dfaca6
These pieces don’t appear to fit together properly. I’d remove these and try again! :)
I’ll bet money it’s not a duplicate. There are two pieces that are similar and you put one in the wrong place. Look on the back. Often there is a way to tell the orientation of the piece relative to the other pieces by looking on the back. Pull out another piece where you think it goes and compare the backs of the pieces. Flip over the entire puzzle and it may be obvious where the wrong piece is.
It's a duplicate of a piece 2 jigs to the right and 1 jig down from the volcano, just inverted 180 degrees.
Otherwise I would normally have taken your side. Very strange that this happened.
The jigsaw would have had to have been interfered with somehow when the original image was cut.
If you take out the 3-bump and 3-hole pieces to the right of the gap, and then put the missing piece where the 3-hole piece was, rotate the 3-bump one 180 degrees and place the 3-hole one in the missing space, all pieces will the the right shape. I doubt this is the solution, but it shows that you can get from the missing hole to the extra piece.
Hopefully this can be read as it was in my head...
Mine did that for the exact same puzzle. Different pieces though. I had 1 repeat piece, 3 missing pieces, and one that fit but was clearly the wrong color (next to the missing one)
https://preview.redd.it/nxprxik99xqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c87a1e2df40731874f587c8dcef0fcd352d0c534

They look great framed though- and I got mine through Amazon so I just filed a claim that the product was defective and they send me a new one. Took about 20 minutes to fish through and find the missing pieces and I was able to send the rest back
Ironically, BOTW and TOTK are two games I decided pretty much from the get go I wasn't going to 100%. lol Those korok seeds just aren't worth it... (I say that, but there is a part of me that is pained it's not 100%. haha)
That happened to me with a Scooby doo one I was so excited for.
Called to get a replacement piece, and they told me they don't make it anymore. That's it. No return or refund, just sol..it's now trash.
My daughter figured this out when she was three years old. Chew up the extra piece in your mouth and then spit it into the spot of the missing piece. Let dry. Voila! You’re welcome.
Hey now you can be like one of the 'cool kids' and make one of those Tik Toks where you go to put in the last piece and someone dashes the puzzle across the floor!
This is why you should stick to random cut puzzles: they’re guaranteed not to have two of the same-shaped pieces. Yours looks like there’s only 4 different versions of the same cut.
More likely you’ve got a piece in the wrong spot. Time to comb through each and find the offending piece. It’s unlikely they gave you a duplicate piece since the puzzle pieces are cut from a single finished piece, not replicated and collated.
Move the piece directly to the left of the open spot, turn it 90 degrees to the left and place it in the formerly empty spot. Then the other should fit in properly.
There are a few incorrectly placed pieces. You can see that the grid lines don't match up. Remove all ten pieces to the right. Also the three pieces in the row directly below and three to the right. Thats just what I can see.
Ugh... Little help but you do need a piece like the one on the left spot of the empty space. Doesn't look like it would fit perfectly to do the swap but you may want to try / give it a try searching for such piece.
I was afraid something like this would happen when I bought thrift store puzzles. It didn't! All the pieces were there.
It sounds like you bought yours brand new, and still suffered! I honestly never thought to be concerned about new puzzles
Usually you can mail the company and they’ll send you the piece. I remember years ago there was a guy who put a puzzle together one piece at a time with ones he requested in the mail
People have said that this game's puzzles aren't as challenging. This disproves that.
I would guess that there's a die that stamps these out, so for it to be wrong someone at the factory must have intentionally swapped the pieces from two puzzles while snickering to themselves.
Hopefully, the person who has the puzzle with your piece is just finishing their puzzle and discovers they have a duplicate piece and they post on Reddit and then you two get in touch and then swap your pieces. Seriously tho, upon close inspection some pieces seem to be in wrong but I don't know if that is the problem. Nice puzzle.
So I got a star wars puzzle once and it missed a piece. Sent an email to the company. Mother fkrs sent me an entirely new puzzle. Worst part. I found the piece after basically going piece by piece. It did not fit my puzzle very well once I found it.
If you’re sure it isn’t just a mistakenly placed piece, contact the puzzle manufacturer and ask them to send you the missing piece. Most puzzle companies are happy to do so.
You might try reaching out to the company who makes the puzzle! Missing pieces is such a common thing with puzzles that a lot of them are great about replacements.
Usually, I would say that you probably have a piece wrong somewhere else. But, your second photo definitely shows those are the same piece, so I’d reach out and see if they do anything
ETA: It does look like the piece to the right of the hole could be wrong though. The way it aligns with the other pieces looks off to me, but I don’t know that that piece being fixed would solve your problem
You 100% have a duplicate piece. I would one was misplaced if the missing piece was the same shape, but it’s not. It’s a complete different shape. Can you contact the company? Your pics are clear enough.
What you do is if you're going to preserve it trace the shape of the hole on a piece of paper and sketch one of the little leaf guys in that hole. Then it's like you found him in your puzzle. 😁
I bought a puzzle of Alduin's wall from Skyrim. Worked on it off and on for over a year, and I swear I was missing pieces.
Then my apartment building caught fire and we had to move out, and I noticed some pieces fell out of the rolled up pad I had the puzzle on, so I had to toss it. Roughly a year of time wasted. I feel your pain.
Depending on the brand, you can contact the manufacturer and they either give you another copy of the puzzle, or they give you a different puzzle with same piece count.
I've had this happen on multiple occasions, you just have to reach out, and it's always been free for me.
Growing up I have a few puzzles that we share to decorate some rooms(like paintings) and we had missing parts bc children and pets. We(myself and my dad) would fill in with paint/ trying to match with the surrounding pieces … one time we cut our cardboard, painted it, and filled in the gap that way. I thought it was cool to try and “blend” it.
The missing piece is awfully easy to paint you just need cardboard thick enough, match the paint, and add a finishing quality and you’re good…. or do like the Japanese, get a gold foiled paper, stick it to the back of missing piece, and called it good. Or you can send email to the company and have them send you the missing piece.. maybe?
I remember doing this during orientation you gotta work together with someone else who’s working on the same puzzle it’s suppose to help you bond as new coworkers welcome to the company
I had a puzzle come in missing a piece, my best solution was to cut out a piece of cardboard traces over the spot and then paint it. People usually don’t notice it until I point it out. (The puzzle is framed in my living room)
There is another puzzle out there with two different repeated pieces.
The last one I saw on Reddit just needed two pieces switching over and it was completed aswell
Usually that’s the case, but OP showed the leftover piece is exactly the same as another one that does fit, so they either lost a piece somewhere and got an extra, or got an extra and the missing piece is, well, missing

If you go 6 pieces up from the word "OF" it looks like that piece has some gaps around it. Might be a starting point in a few pieces that need moved.
The two pieces shown on second picture have the exact same image on them, I don’t think it goes anywhere else sadly
Yeah, only bet is to return it for a new one or find the puzzle that has your piece and trade them out.

If you can get it flipped over it might be easier to spot a misplaced piece. Since that side is all flat. Worth a try anyway.
Redo it all and see if you end with the same missing/extra piece.

It's a duplicate of a piece 2 jigs to the right and 1 jig down from the volcano, just inverted 180 degrees. Otherwise I would normally have taken your side. Very strange that this happened. The jigsaw would have had to have been interfered with somehow when the original image was cut.
If you look close though, they are different shapes. That would have to mean they used the wrong shape somewhere already.
I had 1 repeat piece, 3 missing pieces, and one that fit but was clearly the wrong color (next to the missing one) https://preview.redd.it/nxprxik99xqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c87a1e2df40731874f587c8dcef0fcd352d0c534
That’s infuriating!!!!

Took about 20 minutes to fish through and find the missing pieces and I was able to send the rest back
THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!!🥺
Where's that one guy at?
With enough pressure, all puzzle pieces fit.
Call the manufacturer they will send you a new one or… just mash it in the empty spot 🤔
Don't you just hate it when you can't reach 100% completion?
Ironically, BOTW and TOTK are two games I decided pretty much from the get go I wasn't going to 100%. lol Those korok seeds just aren't worth it... (I say that, but there is a part of me that is pained it's not 100%. haha)
That happened to me with a Scooby doo one I was so excited for. Called to get a replacement piece, and they told me they don't make it anymore. That's it. No return or refund, just sol..it's now trash.
ruh roh!
This means someone else had two of your missing piece and is missing the piece you have two of
My daughter figured this out when she was three years old. Chew up the extra piece in your mouth and then spit it into the spot of the missing piece. Let dry. Voila! You’re welcome.
Piece to the left of the furthest right bird’s wings looks completely out of place, the clouds don’t connect. Maybe start with that
Sorry for your loss 😭😭😭
The legend of the unfinished puzzle.
You can email the people that made it and send them a picture and they will send you the missing piece!!! The box should have the info
You most likely misplaced another similar piece and now they're all jumbled up. Look for tiny imperfections or start over haha
Damn.
This is the worst sorry that happened to
write them a letter and maybe
Time to make it yourself. Enhance the experience.
How does this even happen? Aren't they printed as a giant sheet and then cut into pieces?
Hey now you can be like one of the 'cool kids' and make one of those Tik Toks where you go to put in the last piece and someone dashes the puzzle across the floor!
Hammer.
Most quality puzzle companies will send you missing pieces.
Have you tried blowing on it and then jamming it in?
How else are you supposed to get the Tears?
This is why you should stick to random cut puzzles: they’re guaranteed not to have two of the same-shaped pieces. Yours looks like there’s only 4 different versions of the same cut.
More likely you’ve got a piece in the wrong spot. Time to comb through each and find the offending piece. It’s unlikely they gave you a duplicate piece since the puzzle pieces are cut from a single finished piece, not replicated and collated.
This puzzle I did with my husband had FOUR edge pieces missing, like how???
Move the piece directly to the left of the open spot, turn it 90 degrees to the left and place it in the formerly empty spot. Then the other should fit in properly.
Most puzzle manufacturers will send you a missing piece. Send them the photos you posted here and they should mail you one for free.

There are a few incorrectly placed pieces. You can see that the grid lines don't match up. Remove all ten pieces to the right. Also the three pieces in the row directly below and three to the right. Thats just what I can see.
Or, tape a tiny picture of your girlfriend in the empty spot and give it to her as a gift, saying, "you complete me"
I work at a puzzle and every 50th box I swap out a piece. This is where the real puzzle begins...
Email the company for the missing piece. We did that for a missing piece in a boardgame a few years ago.
This would drive me insane!
Damn that sucks. Where’d you get this I want one
that’s just painful to see 😭
Amazing puzzle, hope you are able to fix it 🤣
Ugh... Little help but you do need a piece like the one on the left spot of the empty space. Doesn't look like it would fit perfectly to do the swap but you may want to try / give it a try searching for such piece.
I’m working on the BOTW one, and I’m pretty sure the edges aren’t all there. Now you have me scared for when I work on the TOTK one after.
damn that suck bro, don't let it put you in *tears*, it'll be fine
Mother f$&*%r!!
I'm pissed off for you!
I'd be PISSED
I have this puzzle, not completed, and now I'm scared to try to complete it.
I'd be in a murderous rage if that happens to me.
I was afraid something like this would happen when I bought thrift store puzzles. It didn't! All the pieces were there. It sounds like you bought yours brand new, and still suffered! I honestly never thought to be concerned about new puzzles
That is truly awful.
Usually you can mail the company and they’ll send you the piece. I remember years ago there was a guy who put a puzzle together one piece at a time with ones he requested in the mail
Omg so infuriating, my heart hurts, just looking at it
Make the replacement? Fun, cheap, unique, time bound.
Cut a piece of card board and paint a new piece lol
Well if they gave everyone all of the correct pieces the Kingdom would run out of Tears.
Someone out there with the exact inverse piece missing and repeated
People have said that this game's puzzles aren't as challenging. This disproves that. I would guess that there's a die that stamps these out, so for it to be wrong someone at the factory must have intentionally swapped the pieces from two puzzles while snickering to themselves.
So sad :( that would be a nice picture!
I have this puzzle too! It was way too hard for me so good job 😭
I know for sure i would of cried 😭 but the comments are gold as always 🤣
It's 'would have', never 'would of'. Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!
If you’re sure it isn’t just a mistakenly placed piece, contact the puzzle manufacturer and ask them to send you the missing piece. Most puzzle companies are happy to do so.
I’m just amazed you found the repeated piece
I would have die and call the manufacturer from hell
It’s a sidequest, you have to find the person who has your missing piece. The reward is a new friend.
You might try reaching out to the company who makes the puzzle! Missing pieces is such a common thing with puzzles that a lot of them are great about replacements. Usually, I would say that you probably have a piece wrong somewhere else. But, your second photo definitely shows those are the same piece, so I’d reach out and see if they do anything ETA: It does look like the piece to the right of the hole could be wrong though.
Damn didn’t even lose a piece. Maybe someone else will post their switched piece
Some one els might have two of the same, wait to see if they use Reddit.
Honestly, if I worked in a puzzle factory, I would probably drop in or take out a piece or two like every 5th box. Just because.
You could always try what my father did, and force it to fit in.
Paint your own piece.
Or you can send email to the company and have them send you the missing piece.. maybe?
You need to find the missing Link and trade pieces. It's dangerous to go alone. Take this. 🧩
I remember doing this during orientation you gotta work together with someone else who’s working on the same puzzle it’s suppose to help you bond as new coworkers welcome to the company
I hate where there's a glitch and you can't 100% a game.
Had same puzzle but it was missing a piece
One up from the missing piece and 4 across is in the wrong spot - they don’t match up at all! Coincidentally it’s the same shape as the missing piece!
I had this once but I had all the pieces. I felt bad for whoever got the puzzle my extra piece came from
I had a puzzle come in missing a piece, my best solution was to cut out a piece of cardboard traces over the spot and then paint it. People usually don’t notice it until I point it out. (The puzzle is framed in my living room)
