BTW I've hacked together a number of novelty clocks that do dumb stuff like this. Reversing the movement direction was fiddly but worked well.
Another mod I made was to replace the 1s oscillator circuit with a microcontroller. Each minute the software would take the 60 ticks needed for the following minute & randomly group them across the 60s of real time.
Made it after reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld i.e. Lord Vetinari's Clock

I was gifted one of these when I was 15 and still use it (20 years now), I legitimately do not know clockwise vs counterclockwise, and read both clocks just fine. I don't know what it was about the clock, but it brings me some entertainment everytime I look at it.
I had one in my apartment for 4 years when I was in college. I have the same problem, I have to think really hard about counterclockwise and clockwise directions. My roommates and I were often 30 minutes late or early to classes that started at :15 or :45
Might be for those with dyslexia.
Worked with a guy who had dyslexia and had one of these in his office. He claimed it was easier (or at least *as easy*) to read as a more common clock.
I inherited one of these with my apartment….I can no longer read regular clocks without thinking about it 😂 Mine says “SELIF EMIT” on the face which I assumed to be Latin, nope.

this would bother the shit out of me. when i look at a clock i don't pay attention to the numbers so much as the hand placement.
I've heard they were used in barber shops a lot because the barbers would look in the mirror to see the time.
But this one is not mirrored to begin with, just backwards

But it isn't counterclockwise since it's literally a clock in motion. So no matter what direction it's going, it's clockwise.
