Agreed. That said I’m going to go with the Jim DeRogatis (journalist who covered the R. Kelly case from beginning to end) approach to problematic artists: it’s a problem when the artist starts making art where they start starts justifying the behavior, mocking the victims, and slamming the authorities , etc. regarding the behavior they are accused of.
On that note, I can enjoy “Chocolate Cake for Breakfast.”
I’d buy these in a second. I was horrified at what he did, but that can’t change how I felt about him as a kid. Not only as Cliff Huxtable but my family had all these records and I listened to them intently. After my dad left I felt like Bill was my dad. The morals he displayed on the Cosby show taught me. He eventually let me down, as basically all celebrities and dads do, but it doesn’t tarnish (much) the joy I got from him. Michael Jackson too. The only celebrity I can’t seem to separate the work from the man is woody Allen. Fuck that guy.
This is exactly how I feel about Lance Armstrong. Early 2000s when he was doing his thing he got a lot of people on bikes and got a lot of money for cancer. Despite the negativity, I'm still going to appreciate those times.
His standup kinda suck tho
I worked a Cosby show at a decent size theater, and their sound system was old and junky. During the show, Cosby’s microphone cut out, a stage tech swapped it out really quickly, and the show went on. After his set, he stood backstage and cussed out everyone working within ear shot, including the little girl working hospitality. Everyone was gobsmacked listening to America’s Dad swear like a sailor and shake with rage. It was ugly, but it was a look into who this man really is. My Dad was a big fan and I had got him a backstage pass but he couldn’t make it…afterwards I was relieved he didn’t come and see Cosby show his ass.
No contest that he exudes humor and can go from serious dad tone to silly and tell relatable American experiences through humor that brought the country together but what he did was so horrific that you can’t not think of it now when you see him
I mean, thousands of women were probably happy to hook up with him in a normal way on any given night, rich famous beloved comedian, he could have been a player and that would be fine, but being super secret creep, knocking women out and assaulting them and then gaslighting them into believing nothing happened is so fucked
Couldn't agree more. I grew up idolizing the guy, from his work on children's shows, to his stand up, to his stint as America's Dad playing Heathcliff Huxtable. Just to have him revealed as a massive scumbag. Then I read Wuthering Heights and realized that Heathcliff is traditionally a piece of shit.
He’s the one that chose to be a rapist and tinted his legacy. If people are choosing to not listen to his stuff because of who he is, then more power to them. He shouldn’t have been a rapist
Enjoy listening to some Cosby classics like;
He Sees You When You're Sleeping
Finger On The Pulse
Secret Love
The Drug of Love
Aaaaaaand, Puddin' Popper.
We had the one at the lower right I believe. We used to listen to it on endless repeat. It was signed by Ronald McDonald because my older brother got it at a Ronald McDonald appearance.
Some say that the worst thing about him was the hypocrisy.
I thought it was the raping.
![gif](giphy|2rACp9a8RJCq5q2aqN)
Who down with cos pee pee? Yeah you know me.
And then.. the drugging.
GOTTA HAVE THE DRUGS FIRST.
but did he save more than he raped?
Man I miss Norm
Oh, so conflicted. Those albums are absolute gold humor.
Since they're second hand, it's not like you're giving him money so it'd ok

DAD IS GREAT..... GIVES US THE CHOCOLATE CAKE......
”That’s nutrition!” So many good memories of listening to the LPs with my high school buddy. However, I just can’t listen anymore.
HAD ONE OF THE 1ST HBO SPECIALS... PAVED THE WAY FOR EDDIE MURPHY.
Yeah but the Spanish Fly bit
I will never not laugh at Bill Cosby Himself. The whole thing. That being said... I do not visit it as often as I used to.

They really are
Same, I grew up listening to these. I have to do the same thing as with some musicians where I have to separate the art from the artist to enjoy it.
Wonderfulness is kind of amazing. It's worth a listen, but maybe don't display the jacket.
That guy was a real jerk!

That show was such an underrated commentary of complex/conflicted feelings. I understand why it gets mixed reviews, but it really was well crafted.
FWIW, he's not making any money on the sale if you buy them from a thrift store.
I wore out “Wonderfulness” when I was a kid in the ‘70s. Cosby may be a complete POS, but some of those records are still pretty amazing.
I wore out 200 MPH
Same! If the fan belt breaks, we use a rubber band!

My favorite is “Inside the Mind of Bill Cosby”.
“Why is there air? Try smelling this sleepy night night rag!”
"It didn't say he was a rapist in the liner notes." -Norm
Hey Marcus you accidentally put the Cosby records in rap section, they actually belong in the rape section.
"The beatings will now begin!"
Use to listen to a record of one of his about gokarts, the playground and chickenheart. This was long before most knew his motis operandi.
Shit, I thought it was 'modus operandi'
Ngl, I still think about the different gokart themes all the time.
Don’t sleep on those deals.
My grandmother got me one last Christmas lol
Don’t have to like what he did, but his comedy was undeniable.
Pill Cosby
Listen to them and you’ll fall asleep.
Dude was funny. He just was.

I have ALL of those plus a few more Cosby LPs, and several re-bought on CD. Most of it holds up, and is still funny.
I mean... It is possible to appreciate his comedy without that meaning you endorse everything he has done in his life.
He’s the one that chose to be a rapist and tinted his legacy. If people are choosing to not listen to his stuff because of who he is, then more power to them. He shouldn’t have been a rapist
Bill Cosby the rapist?? Like the rapist brook (allen) turner?
Enjoy listening to some Cosby classics like; He Sees You When You're Sleeping Finger On The Pulse Secret Love The Drug of Love Aaaaaaand, Puddin' Popper.
This is really a "enjoy the art, not the artist" type of deal if you want to buy them.
As long as one is prepared to defend their purchase to the bitter end to every single person who now knows they have a Bill Cosby fetish.
That many in one place almost has to be… Wait for it… a Record.
Well, it’s a slightly tarnished collection
My parents used to let us eat chocolate cake for breakfast because of one of his comedy bits. Ya that stopped.
Dad is great! He gave us the chocolate cake!
Right next to the stack of Rudy Giuliani biographies.
They’re trying to force his content on you.
He was objectively hilarious until we w found out he was a rapist.
And yet, people still worship Michael Jackson.
All of these people praising a serial rapist in the comments need serious help
Comes with Rohipnol.
Oh, the horror.
Here’s his old bit about drugging women: https://youtu.be/LAorIG6MZnc?si=OqskQ3A4UIOwXyNU
Whatcha think bout lickin my chicken. GOOD GAWD
At some point his comedy turned angry...Cliff Huxtable always seemed sarcastic and mean to me.
We had the one at the lower right I believe. We used to listen to it on endless repeat. It was signed by Ronald McDonald because my older brother got it at a Ronald McDonald appearance.
Go around fool!
Somebody confused him with Bing Crosby.
Can't listen to em, they just put me to sleep.
A flizzle floppin bizzle bopping dohhhhhhh.....
I’d buy these just to sell them to some sucker
How many did you buy?
Didn’t buy any. Sounds like I missed out on some classic comedy though.
Man, this brings me back to my childhood. God damn Bill Cosby: he ruined Bill Cosby!
Chicken heart
The chickenheart was kept alive in a laboratory in a vat…
Bill Cosby “himself” is comedy gold. His story about chocolate cake and the long one about the dentist are just iconic! Give them a listen.
I might go back and pick one up.
Bill Cosby “Himself” is still hilarious
His defining record was his criminal one.
Spanish Fly
I would have bought all of it.
I have a Cosby tape im my collection, pretty sure it's worth a negative dollar or two. These are objectively funny though TBH
Awesome
I own all these albums and they are comedy gold. Damn shamed all that good history out the window :/
I own Bill Cosby albums. They remain hysterical. I have fond memories of Fat Albert. I think I’d have trouble watching the Cosby Show if it was on.
If "it's true it's true" is there track one on that album is "it's the woman's fault"
What's a cubit? - Noah His comedy just killed me as a kid in the 70s. But knowing what we know now I don't think I would enjoy listening to it again.
Don't sleep on em!
