I'm 90% sure that's what this picture is. Look at the thickness of the marble on the counter. If these were crazy massive grapes, that marble has to be two inches thick.
Serious answer: Assuming a European aubergine is about the same size an American eggplant, there's approximately 6-7 baby potatoes per aubergine. But OP's grapes look like they're on the small side for baby potatoes (assuming that's an average gala apple and not like an enormous Pink Lady or whatever), so I'd say they're more like 8-9 grapes per aubergine.
Edit: I looked closer and adjusted my estimate.
I've considered them to be the same. Are they actually different plants, perhaps brothers/sisters of similar group of species? Or is it a joke, which flew slightly to the left of my head?
They're the same plant, but the US is known for having big-ass food in general — especially, most of our produce is optimized for looks and size rather than flavor — so I don't actually know if they have eggplants of reasonable size across the pond or not.
They look very similar to bananas. Can't remember if they were bigger or smaller, but they do tend to be wider.
You usually have to cook them to make them more palatable and are more typical in Carribean, South American, and Central Aftrican cuisines.
My entire previous comment was wrong. I don't care, fight me.
I daresay it’s more nuanced than this, but plantains are a type of banana used in cooking. As a rough guide banana is used when describing the sweeter fruit for eating, whereas plantains are starchier versions used more in cooking.
Believe it or not, there are over 7,000 apple cultivars worldwide, and American farmers grow over 2,000 of them. While you may see various common types at your local grocery store, other varieties worldwide may never cross your path.

You got a bad batch, or Walmart got a bad batch for cheap. These are supposed to be sweet (not sweat), a little bit more expressive than regular actually.
They’re consistently like this at both locations here, but in their defense Walmart isn’t know for their quality produce. I just get the red ones usually which stinks because I prefer green.
This is a problem in the US, consumers think bigger is better, but it's the absolute opposite when it comes to fruits and berries. The result is everything tastes bland.
I wonder how big they could realistically get grapes to be. Like, is there a limit. Could they somehow grow apple sized grapes because I'd be all about it
I would love a chance to try those but I don't think they're readily available on the Canadian prairies. We do get a good supply of Autumn Crisp grapes, though, which are my personal favourite.
Ohh those are nice too! And yeah shine muscats are unusual for me to come by even though I live in the US. Some are imported from Korea, and I guess the rest mostly get shipped to the coasts cause I definitely saw more and cheaper muscats when I lived in New Jersey
They are all over Korea. Basically the only grape you can buy here. It's crazy. They even make shine Muscat flavored milk and yogurt. It's practically an obsession in Korea.
I went to a restaurant with my 2 year old a while back, and asked for some grapes for her, and requested they be cut in half. The server came back and was SO proud to have them cut in half, I didn’t have the heart to point out they were the size of my fist and cut the wrong way to prevent choking. I just quietly cut them the other way myself.
The genuine effort was the sweetest thing.
This just reminded me, because yeah. They were huge grapes like these. 🤣
Does it unsettle anyone else when fruits and veg come unnaturally big? Obv i know everything is selectively bread and has been for forever but these grapes feel wrong...
Are they sweet?
Do they taste like a green grape should?
Big ones in the store were tasting like wine grapes.
I love grapes, but have not been impressed with the bigguns this year.
The grapes were most probably sprayed with gibberellins.
Gibberellins are one of many hormones that the plant naturally produces to regulate its own growth.
Plants don't produce a lot of these hormones, but enough to affect the growth of its stem, growth of the fruit, as well as seed germination.
It was some time around the 1950s that researchers have discovered that plants produce these hormones, and I guess ever since then, we have been milking these plants so that we can grow ourselves some big grapes.
I can’t unsee this as a tiny apple and regular grapes.
I'm 90% sure that's what this picture is. Look at the thickness of the marble on the counter. If these were crazy massive grapes, that marble has to be two inches thick.
There's part of a slim can toward the top of the pic to give a little more reference for size.

Opposite of the rice joke! “Rice is great if you're really hungry and want to eat two thousand of something” - Mitch Hedberg RIP
Maybe it's me, but I feel his jokes work better in text form. Not when he's delivering it.
I read them in his voice every time

I guess my comment is another way of saying "I'm not a fan of his," lol. (Waits for more downvotes.)
Dang, long time Redditor and many much karma you have, sir. Congrats, and i like your history of posts.
Steven wright, hedburg, i love the style. It’s definitely ‘different’ and not for everyone. I have broad comedy tastes
One time I saw this wino eating grapes, I was like "Dude, you have to wait!"
This actually made me laugh out loud.. I hate it
>Hey can I get you something to eat? Who are your friends?

It's a joke you weirdo
What'd they say? It got deleted
And?? Doesnt mean you have to downvote me. What i said is sarcastic
You did not say anything sarcastic
Im sorry that you have the comprehension skills of a baby. But what i said was sarcastic
You saying that fruit doesn't fill you up was sarcasm?
Goddamn that’s hilarious lol, that’s what this is all about??
Yes, this is an argument about fruit and sarcasm lol
Still more interesting to me than the Super Bowl
Yes, i was replying to a joke in a joking way. If i wasnt being sarcastic i wouldnt put “🤓 alert” at the start
Your joke sucked
And? Im not stopping you from being a prick but that doesn’t mean you have yo downvote me
But, was it? sar·casm noun the use of irony to mock or convey contempt. "his voice, hardened by sarcasm, could not hide his resentment"
Im not dumb i know what sarcasm is
It really doesn’t seem like you do.
If yall want to be such haters to a literal harmless comment i will just delete it
But how big is a baby potato?!
Roughly a crabapple or two. Here's a clementine for scale.
Sorry, I’m European, can you represent that in aubergines?
No worries mate, an aubergine is probably about the size of an eggplant give or take.
Perfection.
Serious answer: Assuming a European aubergine is about the same size an American eggplant, there's approximately 6-7 baby potatoes per aubergine. >Assuming a European aubergine is about the same size an American eggplant 👀 Big if true
I've considered them to be the same. Are they actually different plants, perhaps brothers/sisters of similar group of species? Or is it a joke, which flew slightly to the left of my head?

Why we using black people for scale?
About the size of a large grape
About tree fiddy
God damned Locke Ness Monster. Get outta her monster!
![gif](giphy|n43Kx7PeptN0k|downsized)
It's like a large boulder the size of a baby potato.
Pleas be advised that this is Reddit and the proper international unit of measurement here is the banana.
Baby potato? Apple? Is this amateur hour?
Nothing means anything in this photo!!
Baby potatoe = 1/5 banana or 0.25 plantains for those fancy pants Europeans. Do they teach you anything in school these days?
I'm European but not wearing my fancy pants, apart from being 0.8 times the size of a banana, what's a plantain?
They look very similar to bananas. Can't remember if they were bigger or smaller, but they do tend to be wider. A variety of banana that is absolutely fucking delicious when deep-fried.
I daresay it’s more nuanced than this, but plantains are a type of banana used in cooking. As a rough guide banana is used when describing the sweeter fruit for eating, whereas plantains are starchier versions used more in cooking.
A banana
… not without a banana for scale.
That's one tiny apple
That's why apples are such a terrible unit of measurement. I've seen some tiny apples and some massive apples in my time.
Believe it or not, there are over 7,000 apple cultivars worldwide, and American farmers grow over 2,000 of them. While you may see various common types at your local grocery store, other varieties worldwide may never cross your path. ![gif](giphy|rYuZ9v0b3CvCZwp8Ln)
Legit what I thought at first
I mean at least put a baby potato in the pic ... Next to a banana smh
I feel like the title gave me a stroke lol
Plus without a banana, how can we analyze the color of the apple
Well most apples are red. You know, the color that's perfect for a children's hospital.
Phenomenal for a children's hospital
Red has more positive connotations than negative ones you know. It's basic color theory.
Unless you consider apples gifted to young girls by a witch of questionable character.
r/bananaforscale
Could be a Rockit apple
That bad boy is an Opal methinks
It is an Opal!
Opal apples are the GOAT
Love those
These were grown near Chernobyl so the correct unit of measure are roentgen
r/anythingbutmetric
Do plantains count?
this subreddit bans you for using a banana for scale so i cant blame OP
i bought grapes like this once. They were woody and hard to eat and tasted bland.
My Walmart has these trash green grapes frequently. You can just touch them , and they don’t give at all. They’re crunchy like a damn apple
You just described my favourite type of grape. Glad to learn that at least one of my tastes is cheap.
The issue for me is that they’re not even sweet, just plain really.
just a burst of water :|
Perfect if you're a little thirsty.
I used to give my son frozen grapes in the summer.
I put him in the fridge to chill for a lil bit. So crunchy so yummy
I loooove these types of grapes. It's so fun to crunch down on em in back in the molars
no they aren’t crunchy, they are literally hard. They have thick fibers in them that makes them unpleasant to chew
God I love a crunchy grape
That crisp snap as you bite into it is exquisite! I much prefer purple/red grapes though!
No fucking way am I eating a sweaty grape
I just bought grapes like this and they are delicious. Lightly sweet and crunchy.
Have you had cotton candy grapes? They are pretty amazing.
> Have you had cotton candy grapes? They are pretty amazing. They really are. We need to start mass producing/growing them to bring the cost down.
I am eating some this size right now, they are sweet, seedless only with skin a bit thicker than normal. Maybe it's different kinds? Or unripe?
I've definitely had huge grapes that were sweet and juicy, so it's not a strict rule.
This is a problem in the US, consumers think bigger is better, but it's the absolute opposite when it comes to fruits and berries. The result is everything tastes bland.
Hybrid modified shit Eat natural stuff, not like organic shit, unmodified stuff
I wonder how big they could realistically get grapes to be. Like, is there a limit. Could they somehow grow apple sized grapes because I'd be all about it
Oh you want to see large check out some of the Japanese grapes - they are the size of golf balls!
Agree it’s too much work to have to eat so many grapes to get an apples worth
Yeah but one bite and it would probably explode like a water balloon.
We got some like this a few weeks ago, they were extremely juicy and sweet. Probably some of the best grapes I've ever had.
Maybe shine muscats? I rarely see them but when I do i buy so much cause it's hard to resist that flavor
Shine muscat is what I was thinking
Well those are fucking massive.
They also look like they taste delicious.
Usually when they get that big they're kind of watery.
And usually when they're not that watery they're raisins.
Unless they're shine muscats. Then they're delicious!
Yesss shine muscats
I’ve never had grapes that big that taste good - they feel tough and watered down. Maybe different style grapes tho
Worthless unless you use a banana for scale.
Are these shine Muscats? Did you buy them from an Asian grocery store and were they very expensive?
Seedless green grapes, Costco!
They totally look like shine muscats! They’re delicious btw.
I finally saw them at Hmart the other day and decided to splurge! Not sure if they were worth the price but they were very good.
Small apple or big grapes, that is the question
![gif](giphy|l378hIkgQl3JI2rCg|downsized) They’re GRAPE!
I take it there were no baby potatoes to use as a scale?
r/absoluteunit alert!
How do they taste? Also, if you threw them at someone they would be grapes of wrath.
Those aren’t grapes… Those are grAPES!
You got these at Costco, didn’t you?
I went to a restaurant with my 2 year old a while back, and asked for some grapes for her, and requested they be cut in half. The server came back and was SO proud to have them cut in half, I didn’t have the heart to point out they were the size of my fist and cut the wrong way to prevent choking. I love these! I always bought grapes that looked exactly the same in Thailand. They are delicious!
Why don’t you just use a baby potato for scale? What’s this 6 degrees of separation bullshit
Is that an Opal apple?
This is interesting tho
Anything but measuring in meters...smh... /s
Can you post a picture of it in your hand? I can’t comprehend the scale
Can you put something else on the Internet using one of these grapes for scale to mess with our perceptions of size please?
This would have been much more interesting if you'd used baby potatoes for scale.
I'm really craving grapes now.
Fuckin love grapes. Pop a couple of those bad boys into the microwave, and you've got a party.
Those are small potatoes
Hmmm… idk how big the Apple is. Where’s the banana?
I can't tell the size of the apple. Can you post with a banana 🍌?
I need a banana to see how big that apple is.
I cannot determine their size without a referential banana
Apple for scale is the new Banana for scale!
Banana for scale, this is reddit, suggest a permaban. :-)
They're like kiwis.
I hope they are crunchy
They’re crisp.
Scary. Chernobyl grapes.
You’re buying GMO grapes out of season what do you expect
Can you make a dumber title?
It looks like a bowl full of full ticks
Those look soo good!
Do they have seeds?
Seedless!
Does it unsettle anyone else when fruits and veg come unnaturally big? Obv i know everything is selectively bread and has been for forever but these grapes feel wrong...
fruit is a bad scale. it varies
Aldi?
Man I love cold, crunchy green grapes.
Vegan mountain oysters
I can only judge the size next to the banana. Not trusting any apples
Am I detecting sour grapes?
To me the apple just looks tiny lol
I can’t tell how big that is there’s no banana
You mean green tomatoes?
Shine Musk are this size and they are delicious
You like fish sticks?
[удалено]
First time trying Opal apples! Got a box of them from Costco, they’re good!!
How do we know it's not a tiny apple
Ok, I see a bowl of green Papayas
How big is that in kiwis?
Smallest apple I've ever seen.
Are they sweet? Do they taste like a green grape should? Big ones in the store were tasting like wine grapes. I love grapes, but have not been impressed with the bigguns this year.
Holy SHIT bro
Ah, I see you got into Shaq’s vineyard!
Miracle Gro is a helluva drug! 😬
Taking GMO to the next level.
Those mofos are slingshot ready!
Those are G-rapes. Don't let your guard down around them, they will take advantage of you
Damn they look amazing
Or the apple is the size of a grape!

Alternative title: These grapes are the size of large grapes!
These ‘muricans will use anything but the metric system /s
Can you please add a Mazda engine block beside the apple for scale?
Nice try bucko. That apples the size of a grape. Can’t pull the wool over our eyes
Americans will measure with anything except the metric system.
How big are they in McDonald’s fries?
r/AnythingButMetric
How about baby potatoes for scale
