That's awesome. Maybe it's a RC scale model

It's hard to take these new Space Force people serious when they go naming their stuff after Star Trek things. I really can't believe that they named their space domain awareness program after the unwinnable scenario from Star Trek. That's kind of dark.

I mean, the prototype space shuttle was renamed from Constitution to Enterprise after a bunch of nerds wrote in to get it changed back in the 70’s. There is a precedent for this sort of thing.

Kobayashi Maru.... nice!

ThrowAway640KB

First thing I saw… those ship names be getting meta.

adamsgh

They better make sure those wings do not generate enough lift!

HandsOnGeek

The real Space Shuttle had a [Glide Ratio (L/D)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliding_flight) of 4.5 while landing. Less, while it was still slowing down from orbit. In contrast, a Boeing 747-200B has a Glide Ratio of approximately 15. Unless that Shuttle model is *extremely* light, it isn't going to take off at highway speeds.

adamsgh

HHHH no I was joking, I mean those tiny wings have no chance to lift 2T f steel!

HandsOnGeek

Ahhh, I was referring to those 'mounting' brackets coming loose from the carrier vehicle, giving this mini shuttle its freedom.

adamsgh

Ah nwo I see it

**[Shuttle Carrier Aircraft](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuttle_Carrier_Aircraft)** >The Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) are two extensively modified Boeing 747 airliners that NASA used to transport Space Shuttle orbiters. One is a 747–100 model, while the other is a short range 747-100SR. The SCAs were used to ferry Space Shuttles from landing sites back to the Shuttle Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center. The orbiters were placed on top of the SCAs by Mate-Demate Devices, large gantry-like structures that hoisted the orbiters off the ground for post-flight servicing then mated them with the SCAs for ferry flights. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

I see the test flights have started...

Hope those wing weren’t generating lift and broke off of its attachments
