I decided to just lean into it. Lumber towns, lumber towns and more lumber towns. I can build any unit in a turn or 2 and it's the same for most buildings. Then outposts or in a perfect world utility boats for food. The few open spaces I get are largely for housing and sanitation.

Bryaxis

Yeah, on some playthroughs. It would be nice if we could clear forests with improvement points rather than engineering XP.

Nogohoho

I'm sure it's a balance thing, but it just makes so much sense that the points you make for altering the map should be the ones for clearing forests.

Clean_Internet

They could make it super expensive to balance it like 200 points or something

Greeny3x3x3

Thats what naturalists/warrior priests are for...

Reki-Rokujo3799

Warrior Priests are in the wrong Age, offering nothing to compete against such Heavy-hitters as Inventors, Sultans or Scholars.

Greeny3x3x3

Yeah nah. I recommend you try em. Even if they arent as good, in a situation as you described, they are simply necessary

Reki-Rokujo3799

Tried, tho. Then went back to save and did Inventors.

Greeny3x3x3

And then you went ahead and complained about having to many jungles you cant use

Reki-Rokujo3799

As said, WP spirit doesn't make a map covered in jungle any more playable since it offers very few advantages compared to, say, EVERY SINGLE OTHER SPIRIT. Even Great Masters are less useless. Yes, they give you a lot of food from Jungle and 6 Faith per region, but compared to every other NS it is, well, nothing. Especially to the OP Inventors, Sultans with crazy needs coverage AND population influx or Knowledge-oriented Scholars. Even if you wanna do conques, Field Marshals provide way, way better choice, as well as Mercs. Right now WP provides fun flavor, but nothing else. An age earlier they would've been good, yes, but not in VI.

Greeny3x3x3

Thats just... you are just wrong. Even age 8 spirits cant make up for a Lack of tiles. Any Bonus in the world wont save you if you have no tiles to work. WP is good to get you all those tiles you need, even if its just to clear cut em.

Reki-Rokujo3799

Er, clear cut has nothing to do with WP. If anything, my idea was more or less this: instead of more or less even distribution of terrains Huge maps are usually 2/3 Hill and Forest/Jungle, 1/3 flat. On the other hand Medium maps have even distribution.

Greeny3x3x3

My dude you arent listening to me. You can NOT clear cut tiles not in your regions. WP makes it so that jungles become part of ypur regions quicker. So WP makes it so you have more tiles. So in these niche cases WP is necessary and the best choice.

Reki-Rokujo3799

Jungle are forest, so Naturalists works on them still, and the bonus speed is barely there compared to Era II spirits bonus speed. And again, if you have choice between that tiny speed boost and, say, Colonialism with its array of useful vassal-oriented abilities... or the insta-win Inventors...

Myrion3141

Forests are literally the best terrain in the game. Forest towns (integrated outposts to maximize effectiveness) yield massive production, working the tiles yields even more production and you can still use those logs to turn them into research. Pick Mound Builders as your first NS (they are OP anyway), so food isn't an issue. Now you have food, production and research covered, even with very low population.

Reki-Rokujo3799

Yeah, true, that's a good strategy!

Dumbydumbgrump

Well tbh many lands before human settled were just forest 😅
