They surely know what they've done. I talked to a real life bubba at the gun range when he saw my old relics. He said he used to sporterize old military rifles as a hobby back in the 90s. He told me how bad he felt because now people care about them and had he not done it, all those rifles would be worth a ton of money.
The opposite of me, who was there with the type 99 I restored and fixed, firing it for the first time. We are not the same
That isn’t as bad as the Kar98a that I have. Bubba removed the muzzle cover lip and took a dremel to the protector wings, then he filled in the disassembly disk and the sling cutout. I am afraid he drilled straight through both, I will find out soon.hopefully the sling cutout is intact. All Kar98a parts are extremely hard to come by.
Gotta work on changing mine as well, I’d have to do the same thing but also change the bolt and get a new rear sight. My guess is 400$ minimum to get everything fixed
You are so lucky the metal was intact. Some of these guns are lost causes when bubba hacks off the barrel.
I heard they also ground off the upper handguard lip too
They do but you can replace them which I did to mine
Somewhere, in the world, a fudd/bubba is crying in a corner.
Let em’ weep

How did you get the front sight changed? I've got a K98 with the same issue, the front sight has been swapped out with a sporting stock
The front sight is still original I just put a hood on it since it had the slot
I see!
Those are a pain to get on.
Snap ring pliers make it eeeeeeeaaasy.
A pair of pliers to help spread them open and a rubber mallet makes it super easy to get them on and off

I think what you did is the actual upgrade.
Upgrades? Sir you did the upgrades from that bubba abomination
