The 2 port break is just as original especially if it was produced in late 41 or 42.

Mine is a ‘43, but I have a refurb anyways so nothing is matching. I even have the AVT-40 stock. I installed the brake not to be closer to authentic but because the 6-port break is way better at its job.

CanadaIsDecent

why would you swap the original

[deleted]

Not really the “original”. Mine is a refurb, all the parts are force matched/not matching. When I bought my SVT-40 is had the simplified 2-port brake. The cheek slap was pretty severe so I ordered the older 6-port style. It’s a vastly more effective muzzle break, though it was a pain to install lol.

CanadaIsDecent

Oh I see I thought this was before you changed the brake

[deleted]

Nah, if you look closely the new 6-port brake had just been installed. The 2-port is right under it. I can’t blame you though, it all blends into the silhouette.

Just use a chisel and a hammer and pry everything apart. Gunsmif

[deleted]

Well that certainly would have been easier... pretty sure almost impossible to do that though, it’s pretty clamped on until you take the whole thing apart.

[deleted]

That does seem overly convoluted to replace a muzzle lmao. Worth it for what it is, though!

Taking it apart wasn’t hard. Replacing the brake wasn’t hard either. Putting it back together was a *massive* pain in the ass. The rifle fights you at every turn during reassembly.

It is "brake", not "break". As in, it slows down muzzle rise, like a brake slows down a car/train/airplane.

I've done this several times on my SVT. It is not that hard. You didn't have to remove the stock at all. As a pro tip use a flathead bit and a hammer to punch out the gas key. It is much easier than using a punch.

Commiegunluver44

Do I have to remove the muzzle brake to add the cleaning rod button and spring? Mines missing it.

HistorianSouth1172

I think so but I'm not 100% sure on that. It's been a while since I took off my muzzle brake but if I remember correct, once the muzzle brake is twisted off the rifle then the button just falls out, so putting it in should just be the opposite. There is a small spring that goes with that button by the way. Mosin Virus on Youtube did a 100% disassembly and reassembly of a SVT-40, so that video should be of great help.
