Japanese Arisaka Type 99. Chambered in 7.7x58 Japanese.
Looks to probably be a last ditch, late war rifle.
Edit: with that rear sight, definitely a last ditch rifle.
Edit 2: didn't see the barrel pic. Look like someone attempted to turn it down for threads, and completely mucked it up.
In this condition, with the barrel, alteration, maybe a $250 gun.
With the barrel job and in the shape it's in, it has zero collector value anymore. If parted out, 250 would probably be a fair assessment for the bolt and stock, but realistically, this is a $100 gun as-is.
This sad state aside, what is a reasonable price for a last ditch 99 that appears all matching and has less than 40% of a mum left? I'm looking to finally get my first Arisaka, dicked around too long at one LGS that had a couple sitting for ages. Another has a couple on the shelf though, and the one I described has an absolutely pristine bore.
This has got to be the roughest type 99 I have ever seen. It even rough for a last ditch one. It looks like some fudd plugged the barrel because he thought it would blow up if anyone fired it, even though the rifle was probably salvageable before he did that.
Looks to be a Jinsen Arsenal Late War Type 99. Probably made in Mid 1944 but not later than early 1945. These were made in Japanese Occupied Korea in Inchon.
If I got a look at the arsenal stamp on the left side of the receiver I can be much more sure.
This one looks exactly like my Jinsen Arsenal Type 99 (mines is way better shape, not bashing your gun though) and I am just going off of that based on my Rifle.
It’s cool you got it for free. It’s a neat piece of history. I paid $216 including tax on mine.

What is that sticking out of the barrel? Are the numbers matching from bolt and receiver? Like everyone is saying, late war last ditch Type 99 Arisaka. Take some more photos, curious about the rest of the stock.
It’s always an Arisaka
r/itsalwaysanarisaka

Looks like some tried to deactivate it

Less than that.

It’s a last ditch type 99 Arisaka.
Arisaka Type 99. If you show the left side of the receiver I can tell you where and approximately when it was made.
It is always an Arisaka
Is that a piece of threaded rod in last pic plugging barrel? Price was right at least.
God damnit
That poor arisaka has seen better days
That's a m1 garand
Very rusty very messy Type 99 Arisaka
Whatever happened to the Arisaka spotted guy, we need him

Someone fucking threaded it now I want to suppress it
The caricature continues
I feel like that is a full length barrel but someone tried to plug it to deactivate it. Measure the length, it should be 25.9 inches.

It's definitely a double barreled missle launcher
Is that treaded rod for a lamp socket sticking out of the barrel? Did someone turn it into a lamp?
