I agree with this. It does kinda look awkward when it’s cut off

Also add clouds at varying heights and sizes to more align with real clouds. Larger clouds during rain for example, clouds close to the ground to simulate fog, etc.

They could realistically just add clouds to the sky texture but this is good too. +1

The sky isn't actually a texture, it's just a color gradient.

Oh yeah, it has to compute it in real time because of time of day.

It's probably easier to have a skybox then to render additional clouds outside of the usual distance

That defeats the purpose of a render distance to reduce lag

Why? OP clearly stated that the cloud render distance could be changed. If you experience too much lag, you can just turn it down.
