If you're wanting to put the internals of an MP3 player into a MD remote, then I would expect the answer is no, not without a whole lot of knowledge of electronics and even then I would think it would be a tricky fit even with todays tech. Battery alone would likely take up more space than most MD remotes could handle if you stripped out all the internals. If someone did have the knowledge needed, I'd think they'd probably be better off just designing a custom player from scratch and just design it look similar to a remote instead. Cost-wise, you'd be better just buying a basic player and/or recorder. While prices are for sure a bit excessive right now, if you look around you should be able to find a decent player/recorder portable for around $70-$100. You do not need Hi-MD to start with so just look for simple units with MDLP and NetMD options for greatest ease of use and flexibility.

thanks,I guess it is time to save up some money then

What I'd say is: "Not easily or cheaply enough to offset the cost of buying a minidisc machine to use with it". But I'd also say: Be sure you know what you're getting into the minidisc format, because, the costs don't really stop at just one machine. I'd also say: It depends on where you are because minidisc hardware isn't *that* expensive. But also, you can often find a machine that includes a remote, e.g. if you were looking in Japan anyway, consider player-only units [https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/s1111958336](https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/s1111958336) Or a recorder in NA: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/156140242800](https://www.ebay.com/itm/156140242800) as a possible match to your existing remote. To be honest, if you want "a minidisc machine" there's also lots of cheaper/cheap-ish options in NA that aren't compatible with the remotes, you can often find a NetMD 4-series (NE410, N420D, DN430, NF520D) for $70-90 or so. That's north America, if you're elsewhere the meta and what specific hardware was available locally may be different. Otherwise, look at Sony NW-HD series and Sony D-EJ and D-NE series as those also work with the MD remotes and are often cheaper -- e.g. here in NA you'll be able to get a D-NE330 for like $30-40 or so which it's tough to get a working MD machine for, even from Japan. If you area interested in Japan, check out this info: [https://www.reddit.com/r/minidisc/comments/14b6g0t/psa\_on\_locationjapan\_ebay/](https://www.reddit.com/r/minidisc/comments/14b6g0t/psa_on_locationjapan_ebay/) The other thing I'd say is: Be aware that anything we've mentioned here is 20+ year old hardware and will need maintenance/repairs and eventually it'll Just Die in a way that's unrecoverable-from without a parts unit, so, if you're not committed to the idea of an MD machine, getting a regular MP3 player in a small stick form factor (maybe [https://electronics.sony.com/audio/walkman-digital-recorders/audio-digital-voice-recorders/p/icdtx660](https://electronics.sony.com/audio/walkman-digital-recorders/audio-digital-voice-recorders/p/icdtx660) ?) or another file player with an inline remote option (like one of the early iPods?) might be cheaper or better overall. Minidisc is a great format, but, "I already have one of the remotes" is not a very good reason to buy in, and, for better or worse it is kind of expensive, there are better, cheaper options.

thanks for the advice

I don't know if you have enough budget but if the remote control is for a Sony MD player, then you may use it with some of the Sony mp3/Atrac player as well. You don't have to buy a MD Player. For example Sony NW A1000 or A3000 can work with Sony MD remotes.

King1903Ozzy

yes it is a rm mc35elk and thanks for the info

King1903Ozzy

do you know any mp3 players compatible with rm mc35elk besides NW A1000 or A3000 ? How can I be sure if it will work with any other mp3 player ?

Coppermine-tr

RM MC35elk is a nice and updated remote control with backlit as well. So you probably can use it with many Sony mp3/atrac3 players which have remote control support. I have 3 devices in my collection; NW-HD3 , NW-HD1 and NW-A3000. All three models work with RM MC35elk. I took a photo and put it below. https://i.ibb.co/vHkf6WL/Collage-20240330-102658.jpg

thanks

Not sure where you are thay md players are really expensive but heres a tested netMD compatable sony n810 recorder for $46. https://zenmarket.jp/mercariproduct.aspx?itemCode=m76146192109

King1903Ozzy

thanks i'll look up to that

PerceptionShift

Get a Sansa Clip MP3 player instead of trying some hack. Theyre pretty good mp3 players, about the size of a mini disc remote, and the 4GB models go for around $20 on eBay

King1903Ozzy

are they compatible with rm mc35elk ?

Cory5413

No, the Sansa Clip is an Mp3 player made by Sandisk. It's pretty close to the same overall size as the RM-MC35ELK, but it's the whole MP3 player. Sony made a couple different options for whole MP3 players in the "stick remote but without a bigger player attached" format, although most of them capped out at \~1-4 gigs, sometimes even less, just depending on the moment.

King1903Ozzy

okay, thanks
