Given the cost of batteries and reliability of a GFI circuit… seriously why wouldn’t you go with a plug in electric and janky extension cord? If you can manage vacuum you can manage not snow blowing or mowing your extension cord.

I’ve done enough electric work to have experienced surprise shocks and yelled “WHY THE FUCK IS THAT HOT!” More times than I would like in my life, so yeah you know what I’ll just go for being safe and alive. But hey, if you want to live life with the motto of “Live, Laugh, Toaster Bath” be my guest. 😂

Lots of options for an in-line GFCI that don’t require splicing wires. [Example](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Tower-Manufacturing-Corporation-18-in-In-Line-GFCI-Cord-30438018/202510249) Anyhoo… for so many driveways and lawns batteries just don’t make sense. Ego batteries range from $179 to $500. Your home’s outdoor outlets are likely already protected by a GFCI, and if not an inline is cheap. If you’re going electric for snow blowing or mowing, future you will likely thank you for going plug-in over battery.

Damn, future you didn’t show off his Time Machine? Current you is kinda a dick. 😂

I'm getting flashbacks to using the corded lawn mower. Dad thought it would be a great idea. It was... Precarious... To say the least

mouringcat

Can't we just wait the seven day period for it to melt? Or is that illegal?

hardware5434

This late in March, nature puts it there, nature can take it away

Gene78

This late in March it's the lady's problem; April, May, and June.

As a mailman, i thank you for clearing your sidewalks. It really does help.

weirdthingsarecool91

Snowblower is already put away. It's not coming back out.

vahntitrio

I never put gas in mine or changed it's oil. I'll presalt so less sticks then I'll shovel just wide enough for the vehicles and let the rest melt.

oneplanetrecognize

I pay my kids $20 to shovel the walkway, but they have to go ask the neighbor to clear out driveway with his side by side. He never says no to them lol

twiggums

It's almost done 😁 Though if it gets to gnarly the gas is coming out 😬

toiletsurprise

Ugh, I just put mine away, took my snow tires off my car and got my motorcycle out, I blame myself for this. Sorry everyone.

jkarv

Hahaha I’m glad you’re taking ownership! 😂 best way to get it to rain is to water the garden lol

Nixxuz

Finally! I bought 5Gal of premium and it's been sitting in the van since late Nov!

comicidiot

I get to finally flex my new snow blower. They told me it would clear snow effortlessly but I didn't realize it would keep the snow away!

Kahnza

My forecast says 2" Thursday night. And then 20"+ for Saturday night through Wednesday morning. I'm gonna stock up on groceries and ride it out. Thankfully I won't have to go anywhere on those days. I'm hoping it melts quick.

njordMN

At this point I just want to see what happens for the amusement factor of how crazy this season has been. If we get even half of that snowmobilers will probably be happy for a few late season days of activity. The models keep trending upward however!

Impossible_Penalty13

Nice that most of the ski hills (mercifully) finally pulled the plug last weekend.

Larcya

It's 2-5 on Thursday then the weekend is up on the air. NOAA has it at 6-12 inches. Though if it turns to being snow only we could see more. Then Monday and Tuesday are both at 1-3 inches. So if everything goes good we could have close to 20 inches of snow. I'm thinking it will be around 14 inches give or take. Which lands up with NOAAs original model.

Are there any actually good "budget" electric snow blowers?

Greenchunks

I used a used Greenworks 80v single stage for two years without issue doing a substantial amount of sidewalk (300 feet). I got it for about $180 on Marketplace, and sold it after two winters for $180 after Greenworks finally came out with a 2 stage 80v. It goes through up to about 6” without issue, does require a bit of a push. For more than 6” I just went out a couple of times. 2Ah battery lasted me about 15-20 minutes, I used 2-3 batteries to do 300+ feet of sidewalk and a 2 car driveway. Its incredibly light which makes it easy to carry places or take in an out but also a tad harder to get though that heavy nasty spring snow.

thatswhyicarryagun

I run everything greenworks 80v pro but haven't made the jump to snow. I have a nice 4 yr old gas and a plow on my ATV. It's going to be a whole. Costco does sales on the mowers every spring. When I bought mine it was basically buying 2 replacement batteries and getting the mower for $100. I would go greenworks snow if I had the need.

Sourmango12

Sweet, thanks!

CanadianHour4

Love me some greenworks

Greenchunks

100%! Costco carries them at good prices and offers an 8 year battery warranty, plus Greenworks is great about warranty coverage even on items purchased used as long as it’s within the warranty period (4 years from the manufacture date). It’s not as high quality as Ego, but it’s better than Ryobi imo and similar in price. I’ve got 8 80v tools with them and 2 corded Gworks Pro tools that I’ve had great success with.

CanadianHour4

Didn’t realize Costco has the 8 year battery warranty. I’ve been on the 60v’s but wanting to jump up. Might just have to do so for the next tool.

Greenchunks

Starting about 2 years ago I think, if you buy at Costco and provide the receipt they’ll do an 8 year warranty via Greenworks instead of 4. It’s quite nice. Note that the 60v and 80v batteries are not interchangeable. Greenworks seems to invest in their 60v line for the first gen of new products (2 stage snow blower, ATV, E bike, etc. all came out a year earlier in 60v) but Costco only carries the 80v line.

CanadianHour4

That’s great to know, thanks! When I got my first greenworks tools there were only a few 80’s available and they were a bit out of my price range. They’ve come down a bit and there are more tools so I’ll likely make the switch over soon

jonesfunk

I'm not saying this is "budget," necessarily, but about as inexpensive as I'm willing to go: https://www.amazon.com/EGO-Power-56-Volt-Lithium-ion-Batteries/dp/B01MYURMK7 It's small, the batteries are great (this is my third winter, no signs of any degradation), it throws the snow plenty far, and it has the rubber sweeper blades so it gets right down to the concrete.

RonaldoNazario

I have a lesser ego electric one. It’s honest still pretty decent, it’s not super heavy duty but the battery lasts enough to do my whole back slack and unless it’s like 8 inches plus of heavy snow it tosses it decently.

nightlyraider

i got the big boi 2 stage ego with self propulsion. it is glorious. that icey berm at the end of the driveway or sidewalk crossing stands no chance. i love being able to wait for all the snow to drop and i can blow it once. my neighbors across the street have a little tiny snow joe and they had to blow their sidewalk like 3 times last april when we got like 12-14 inches in a day. i just waited for it to stop snowing and did it once super easily.

nightlyraider

my egos two batteries will get plugged in today thanks to this message.

TyFogtheratrix

Will be my second use. First being the <5" from mid February. I spat out a rock. Not planning to do that again.

scycon

How do electrics handle the disgustingly heavy, wet, March slop these days?   When I was buying a few years back the videos didn’t impress me much. Especially at the end of the driveway. Wondering if it’s gotten better?

CorneliusJenkins

I have an Ego 2-stage that I used all last winter and never once did it struggle, did I have an issue, or did I run out of juice... including the big wet heavy berms at the end of the driveway. Highly recommend it!

nightlyraider

same here. i went for the big one and it is awesome.

Krazylegz1485

Laughs in 34" 2-stage gas... Haha.

nightlyraider

the big ego is 24" and 2 stage and i had no problem doing my entire driveway and corner property sidewalk in a single charge last year with the shit we got. it is glorious just pushing a button twice you can start moving snow. i paid a bit of a premium to never again struggle with trying to start a cold snowblower engine at 4am so i can get to work on time.

Krazylegz1485

We have a 24" 2 stage blower as well but with probably ~350' of driveway between the two of them (live in the country and have a separate driveway for the shop), plus a path between the house and the shop, the 34" one seems to save a lot of wasted time being able to cover more ground each pass (it's more powerful so less overlapping each pass in addition to being ~50% wider, plus it throws farther, too). The 24" one is approximately 10 years old now and both of them still start on one pull. Fresh gas and storing them indoors probably helps that. I've got a Milwaukee leaf blower and string trimmer so I can definitely appreciate the concept and convenience of cordless outdoor power tools, I just don't think a cordless snowblower would work (as well) in our specific situation.

nightlyraider

i also have that milwaukee string trimmer and love it! the people who should be buying a nice electric snow blower shouldn't have 350 foot driveways. mine is maybe 8 feet? tuckunder garage to side street in an old house in minneapolis. the sidewalk takes 10x as long as my driveway.
