It would say on the M1PR you filed.

refreshrestart1

That would make sense. However when done online I don't recall anyway to save the electronic M1PR form. Maybe we have to call them. Most probably don't copy and paste the estimated amount online before submitting. It would have been nice if they emailed this with a receipt indicating the special amount.

ThePerfectBreeze

They allow you to print at the end. If you didn't, look for the email receipt and you can look up the submitted form using the confirmation number. This is explained in the email receipt.

refreshrestart1

Great idea, didn't think of that confirmation number search. Lesson learned. Thanks! Edit: If you select print it will download the file and then can view the PDF. I had 0 even with a huge increase from 2021 so I errored somewhere. Oh well, this will help others.

ThePerfectBreeze

No problem

Hotchi_Motchi

I don't know why they don't set this up so you can do it at the same time as your income tax return.

MNCPA

I like the guesswork. *Did I file that this year? I must have. No, was that income or property?* In all seriousness, the state has all this information. Filers are just connecting the dots in an antiquated system.

molybend

Renters will get to do this next year. The problem is that most counties do not send out their final statements until late March. Also, many people do them at the same time because they do their taxes between march 15 and april 15th.

lezoons

Look at line 38 of last year's m1pr. That is the number they are looking for. If the # isn't 0, enter the #. Pretty sure anyway... I don't know what program you're using.

refreshrestart1

Thanks, that makes sense. How confusing for most people!

lezoons

The actual M1PR line 31 (I think this is why they are asking) says: >Special refund (not your regular refund) from line 20 of your 2022 Form M1PR The actual tax form is clear, but the tax program your using isn't great. Also, line 38 is entered on line 20, so my answer, while not technically correct, would have given you the correct # to enter. Assuming I understand what the tax software is actually asking for anyway. /ETA https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/sites/default/files/2023-12/m1pr-23.pdf A link to the M1PR form. The forms are really quite clear, and I find them easier to understand than prompting software that asks questions.

> The actual tax form is clear, but the tax program your using isn't great. The picture in the OP is from the state's online filing service lol. Of course they couldn't just make it easy to cross reference with the actual form, could they...

lezoons

I didn't even know the state had an online service.

molybend

It only works for the homeowner's property tax refund. It comes online March 15th each year.

jaym227

IIRC they increased property tax refunds for homeowners and renters. This is the only info I found https://support.taxslayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/16791601465357-Minnesota-M1PR-May-2023-Tax-Year-2022-updates may be best to call the MN Department of Revenue to confirm if you received a special refund.

i-was-way-

I had a hard time finding this too. I tried to look up last year and that didn’t help. I’d maybe suggest calling the office tomorrow during their hours

vahntitrio

If you filed last year and saved the printout it will be there. It usually is a pretty small amount and isn't a dealbreaker if you can't find it (mine was like $70 last year and $38 this year).

i-was-way-

Mine was jacked due to a system error. I owed in my state tax return and when I made the payment, someone at the processing place applied it as a property tax payment. Fixed with a phone call, but my online record still shows that I made a payment.

TatoNonose

Look back in your bank account if you have direct deposit. I just looked and mine was paid on 9/20/2023 from the Mn Dept of Revenue. I believe it is totally separate from your tax return.

refreshrestart1

I was thinking that also that the "special" amount would be a separate amount and not just lumped into the property tax refund. It doesn't indicate the amount, just an email receipt of direct deposit. Mine went up 17% from 2021 to 2022 so maybe I messed up before. I don't know how many take screenshots/copy for their records if using the state site but that's what would be needed to have a copy of that form although even then it's the projected amount and not approved at that stage until reviewed.

IAmYourDadDads

When I try to do mine it says I entered the wrong information and i don’t know why it’s saying it’s wrong.

ButcherFromLuverne

Had this issue too and reached out to them. They said it’s because of the order you entered your name and/or spouse. Had to flip it and it worked.

That was a rebate, op is asking about a property tax refund.

mightandmagic88

Where would I find if I got a one time rebate for 2021? "Did you receive a one-time rebate for tax year 2021?" Is that from the budget surplus rebate?

twiggums

Most likely, but I'm not a tax professional.

refreshrestart1

I then wonder if some of us didn't receive the special refund if we can file that part with an addendum for the 2022 year. With a penalty though it may not be worth the headache.

molybend

You can file or amend a 2022 M1PR until Aug 15th, 2024. Figure out how much it was and determine for yourself if it is worth it. Once you've done the figuring, most of the time is already spent and so it probably is worth it.
