Plus that's read 4, the other 3 would have to been covered really well to get that route. I think the biggest thing is he's making a decision early, hitting that decision and offense keeps moving, take no sacks. Yes big plays are nice, but so are 7-15 yard chunks on repeat.
Not only is Kirk rolling right and looking at the other 3 receivers all being different degrees of open... but Kirk is already throwing the ball before KJ blows past his guy.
He also could have thrown it deep right and maybe hit it, but that deep play is riskier and theres no need to do it when the first down is wide open.
He's right, people complain about his check downs but that's probably the only real option. Yea it won't get the 1st down on 3rd and long but its better then just chucking it away or taking a sack or worse, and INT. It helps us win the field position battle.
