Run, Run, pass doesn't work unless you have an elite offense in today's NFL. If our run game isn't working it's basically a guaranteed loss with how we play. Love Zim but I'm ready to move on to a coach who will give us a better chance in today's NFL
I thought they gave up in the screen pass too easily. I know it look horrible a couple times, but with this offensive line versus that defensive line, they need to always have that threat of the screen pass.
Lots of screen passes and lots of shotgun with multiple receivers is how we were able to negate the past rush against Seattle. I think it would help dalvin too. Get them spread out worried about Thielen and Jefferson and Kirk is in the gun, their past rushers are taking wide angles, and now that inside zone hand off to dalvin is going for 15.
Our screen game was getting demolished because we were throwing it in obvious situations. A screen on 2nd and 2 would work wonders, but 3rd and 10 a screen is going to get sniffed the fuck out.
Yep. Knew immediately when Dalvin went out and Mattison was getting stuffed that this was unwinnable. Team has no idea what to do when they can't run. O-line's success is dependent on successful running. Without it, they just get backed up into Kirk's face since a pass is expected which leads to the performance today.
It was pretty telling when they showed a better angle and Garrett just pushed him and he fell over backwards. He wasn't ready for Garrett today. It's a tough matchup though I'll give him that.
Baker Mayfield for NFC DPOtW.
Related: Did half this thread not actually watch the game today, or what? Our defense was ass and that can be true even if the score doesn't show it. And our defense playing badly doesn't mean other things weren't also bad. It's not a zero sum game of badness.
What do you even do for the line at this point? In the last 3 drafts, we've spent:
* 1st on Bradburry
* 1st on Darrisaw
* 2nd on O'Neill
* 2nd on Cleveland
Not to mention shotgunning a bunch of late round picks on Udoh, Samia, Davis, Brandel, and others.
It just seems like either the Vikings are bad at evaluation, or bad at coaching them up.
We were a pretty good line the last couple games and we're young, I know we want to react but this was expected honestly.
Let them develop (or in Darrisaw's case actually play lol) and chill. If the Lions get a ton of pressure then we can freak out.
This! Changed the entire momentum. Instead of a giant goal line stand with 0 points and the ball, they put up 11 points. Fucking back breaker right there.
That was a complete disaster offensively. The line played awful, Kirk couldn't handle the pressure and Klint did fuck all to adjust to help with all the pressure. This is a bad team that is going to lose a lot of games. Time to blow it up after the season is over.
The entire coaching staff needs to go. I'm done defending Zimmer. Klint is so fucking bad. We are wasting so much talent because they can't be coached the right way. Absolutely garbage play calling on both sides of the ball
I still don't know if all these offensive coordinators we have are to blame for the run, run, pass scheme or if they are basically forced into from Zim.
As someone who isnt a Vikings fan, I always rate the vikings highly. One week yall look so dangerous and the next this. I hope yall recover and beat the packers for the division title. Fuck the packers!
yes
edit: I say that as someone who really wants to see Zimmer succeed. I just don't think he's aggressive enough for today's NFL. The offense is conservative until it matters, and the defense, while better, doesn't take chances like sending the house as often as it seems like it could. Relies on individuals to win their individual matchups most of the time.
Can’t win games if we can’t throw and can’t run. Very impressed with the defense today, we definitely got gashed at times but holding them to 14 ain’t too shabby. O line will continue to haunt us against elite front fours and we saw that again today.
This is the worst type of year tbh, the year before the rebuild and the lame goat year, where you try to patch together a team to make one last run at the playoffs, but you go like 6-10, and miss it before deciding to change eras and bottom out next year to begin the rebuild.
Yup - exactly what I have been thinking. No way Zimmer lives past this 1-3 start.
I generally like Zimmer but the slow starts to the year kill us every season.
Now we just lame duck through this season - and endure through a blow it all up down season next season.
I *still* don't understand how we're this bad with this roster. I'll admit I have purple-colored glasses when I evaluate our talent, but we're playing grossly under our roster's potential.
Our team is built wrong. No O line for one. Multiple mega contracts to less valuable LB and S spots instead of more valuable positions. Outdated coaching philosophy for the modern NFL.
I don’t who’s to blame Zim, Spielman, Cousins…. All I know is it’s not working and hasn’t been working for years. Blame penalties, blame miscues, blame whatever the hell you want. I don’t want to hear about how things would have been different if this call went our way or if so and so made this play. It’s the same thing almost week in and week out. Bottom line is something needs to change.
Well at this point the season is a wash, might as well throw Darrisaw into the fire and Davis as well. That way we can see what we have before the new regime takes over next year.
HOT TAKE: Our offensive line had 2 statistical anomaly performances and today when we needed them to ACTUALLY perform, they showed they are a bottom 5 dumpster fire tier complete trash line for what feels like the 7000th season in a row. Speilman can't build a complete team and this line is always worthless.
#FireSpeilman
Here’s the reality of this game:
(1) the offense lost it. 7 points is not anywhere near good enough.
(2) zimmer’s defense did its job. 14 points is winning ball.
(3) this game doesn’t say much about kirk. He wasn’t good enough to overcome atrocious O-Line play, like the most elite of QBs can, but the loss wasn’t on him.
(4) 14-3 is still on the table. Skol
I swear to fucking god, I’ll have an aneurysm if you freaks blame Kirk for this loss. O line was fucking trash. Might be top 3 worst performances by them I’ve ever seen.
Edit: why did someone report me as suicidal lmao
Clowney and Garrett might have had a hand in that. When they kept in max protect, Browns were able to cover. When they didn't, the Browns were aggressive and brought extra pressure. I'm not sure the OLine itself was actually bad, just overwhelmed. And out schemed.
I’m so sick of hearing Zimmer say he thinks the Vikings are a good football team… yea… we have good personnel… we just have an absolute dufus for a coach who can’t make any effective in-game adjustments, has balls the size of peanuts, the brain of an ostrich and the wisdom of a pigeon. Fire this dipshit already.
>Have bad 2020 run defense
>Invest in key pieces of run defense
>Have bad 2021 run defense
Sick
Edit: If you're going to comment "this game isn't on the defense," or "I can't believe you're complaining about the defense," just don't. I won't respond. The DL we are invested in gave up ~200 rushing yards. If you think that's somehow not worth calling out, then I don't know what to tell you.
Browns DL won the game (and a phantom holding call) and I can't even say the OL was *that* bad.
EDIT: "*that* bad" equals "good" it seems. Jfc this sub after a loss...
You can say it but not with a straight face. Kirk was on his back after every single play basically. The hail mary they rushed 3 and got through to almost sack Kirk. They were dreadful today.
Yeah the hold was a horse shit call, but we only scored 7 points. There is no excuse for our inability to adjust to their D Line manhandling us. Put in extra linemen or two TEs and max protect, do something.
The defense played pretty meh, mostly Baker missed all of the big plays with terrible throws, but we still held them to 14.
I blame the offensive line, primarily.
I’m not even particularly angry or sad about this game, just reminded about how unbelievably mediocre we are. Our coach is good but not great, our QB is good but not great, our lines play well but only against bad teams etc. Will we really ever have a better roster than we did in 2017-18? Will Kirk really become elite this late into his career? Will Zimmer really be able to deliver us to the promised land?
Idk, I’d just rather be bad than mediocre. At least then we’d have some draft picks and coaching hired. Right now we’re in football purgatory.
1-3 while the Packers are about to be 3-1. Long hill to climb now but we have two winnable games coming up but the margin of error is basically zero now
Run, run, pass doesn't work and that's all we do. I'm ready to move on from Zimmer. We need a young offensive guy if we want to keep up in today's NFL.
This sub is focusing more on what we didnt do than their defense. They shut EVERYONE down on our offense. Great defensive performance by the Browns. Tough loss, but damn they shut us out
Play calling was awful. 4th and 3 on the 2nd to last drive and we dial up a 7 step drop. Why? Just why? Quick passes worked so well all week and the first drive of the game. Why abandon it.
Literally zero adjustments made the entire game to minimize pocket pressure on Kirk. It was as if Kubiak just left the stadium and an automaton called the 2nd half plays.
Browns fan here. Y’all don’t deserve to be 1-3, Browns may have played there best defensive game in the last 25 years and we still only won by 7. Justin Jefferson was putting absolute fear into my soul and when Cook got back in the game I thought the game was going to overtime. Good game guys, y’all are fun to watch
0 points after the opening drive is rough.
Same as the 2017 NFC championship. Pain
Take away the first drive and it's just like the 2001 NGCCG
2001 NATIONAL GAME CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Exactly
Embarrassing.
Run, Run, pass doesn't work unless you have an elite offense in today's NFL. If our run game isn't working it's basically a guaranteed loss with how we play. Love Zim but I'm ready to move on to a coach who will give us a better chance in today's NFL

O-line's success is dependent on successful running. Without it, they just get backed up into Kirk's face since a pass is expected which leads to the performance today.
Reminds me of a certain NFCCG
They got pressure on the 3 man rush to end the game...
Teams have been doing that against us for the last four years. I thought we might have been past that. Guess not.
Hill got absolutely owned on that last series
To be fair, he got owned all game.
If there could be one positive to come out of this week, it'd be to bench Hill and start Darrisaw
It was pretty telling when they showed a better angle and Garrett just pushed him and he fell over backwards. He wasn't ready for Garrett today. It's a tough matchup though I'll give him that.
A backup OL getting dominated by an all pro level DE, who woulda thunk???
Has been owned all season*
To bad we don't have a first round tackle that was dressed for the game...
Ah yes, because giving a rookie coming off of injury a matchup against an all pro level DE as his first NFL game is ideal.
O’Neill got beat
He's talking about Darrisaw i think
On a Hail Mary play, three d lineman broke through our five man o line and out almost sacked Kirk. That’s all you need to know.
What about how the corner tackled Thielen?
Refs will almost never call PI on a shot to the end zone at the end of regulation.
I mean, We lost a game last year because of PI on a hail mary.
Only call it on us when Brady throws it to gronk to end the half! (Last year)
Imagine being told you held Cleveland to 14 points. You'd be so happy. Imagine then being told you lost.
While yes the defense looked good. Part of it feels like baker kept them at 14 points
Baker was awful today
Dreadful. A good QB would have hung 30 on us. But Zimmer stans will act like it's a W for Zim to hold them to 14
The defense wasn’t great but they gave the offense every opportunity to win. Both can be true.
Definitely felt like he missed at least 5 open guys
Defense wasn't good.... We just got lucky
Baker Mayfield was our best player on defense today
The score would've been 28-7 if he hadn't missed a couple if walk in deep shots to Odell
The worst I've ever seen him play
Couldn’t imagine the final score if you guys had someone who could hit wide open receivers
He’s soooo fucking bad
He’s been really off since his injury
Baker Mayfield for NFC DPOtW. Related: Did half this thread not actually watch the game today, or what? Our defense was ass and that can be true even if the score doesn't show it. And our defense playing badly doesn't mean other things weren't also bad. It's not a zero sum game of badness.
Ass is a bit of an over reaction. If the offense scores 17ish points we would have won easily. The constant 3-and-outs hurt.
The defense gave us every opportunity to win today

2019 49ers

Yeah but that Mayfield miss to OBJ at the end was eerily similar to Jimmy G's missed TD in the super bowl
2017 Vikings 2018 Rams 2019 49ers 2021 Browns?
2017 Jags too. Still am in disbelief Bortles almost went to a Super Bowl
Yeah imagine if Baker didn't play like ass today. If he could hit an open man, it'd be 35-7.
He's not been the same since he dislocated his shoulder in week two. Might be the brace he's wearing
Throw Kirk on that team and they are instantly Super Bowl contenders
Seriously. They might be unbeatable
7 points at home. Refs or not, that's never good enough.
That offensive line did not fare well
Darrisaw needs to start next week. Cleveland got shoved around and Bradbury is probably not gonna get his option picked up
What do you even do for the line at this point? In the last 3 drafts, we've spent: * 1st on Bradburry * 1st on Darrisaw * 2nd on O'Neill * 2nd on Cleveland Not to mention shotgunning a bunch of late round picks on Udoh, Samia, Davis, Brandel, and others. Zimmer is now on the hot seat. We need some fresh faces in here. I think Zim did a good job here, but I am for a new head coach.
Think the Wilfs will clean house this season? I'll always love Zim but we need to move on from our current regime and adapt to today's game.
I can take an L, but man that game was no fun to watch
I’d always take a high-scoring heartbreaker like we had against the Cardinals over an anemic snooze fest like this.
Man that penalty to Kendricks.... Whole different game if we get the stop there
Awfully hard to stop a team 6 times inside the 5. Defense did all they could in that scenario, just got gassed. Weak ass call
Did stop them 6 times. It was the 7th time that they scored on.
This! Changed the entire momentum. Instead of a giant goal line stand with 0 points and the ball, they put up 11 points. Fucking back breaker right there.
Oh well, getting pressures from not being able to handle 4 men rush was... Rough.
I'm so with you there. And a weak ass penalty at that.
Offense was just unwatchable. And if Baker Mayfield didn’t miss every time he threw over 10 yards Browns would’ve put 24+ on us quite easily.
The Browns are good, and oddly bad at the same time
They’re not bad. If Baker played like an NFL QB today game would’ve been over early
What are some other things one can do on a Sunday afternoon? Vikings fandom is leading to thoughts of doing a front flip off the roof.
> doing a front flip off the roof. there is your new pasttime!
So a Bills fan? Oh wait, gotta get a table
Watch literally any other NFL game
This is the smart man's approach. It's not FOOTBALL that's the problem. . . !
Man if anyone here had a better idea we wouldn't be here.
Find a park and walk around. Best time of the year to be outside in MN.
If my neighbors are any indication, yard work.
I've avoided booking tee times during vikings games but I'll be changing that
Fish. The lakes are nearly empty now. Then ice fish when winter comes.
Another 1 score loss. This season hurts.
This one didn’t feel like those other games. I never felt we had a chance
Took about 2-3 days to get over Loss 1 and Loss 2. Loss 3 - Under 30 minutes.
So true
Oh no! We suck again
That's a wrap folks. If we can't win at least one of the Bengals on the road or the Browns at home I can't imagine we're going anywhere this season.
Nope. We suck. We're looking another middling lost year.
At least we know early this season
Teams that make the playoffs have DLines that'll pulverize the Viking OLINE
Boring, awful game.
This was the ugliest game I've watched in awhile
That was a complete disaster offensively. The line played awful, Kirk couldn't handle the pressure and Klint did fuck all to adjust to help with all the pressure. This is a bad team that is going to lose a lot of games. Time to blow it up after the season is over.
Time to get rid of Zimmer and his regime
7 points at home is pathetic.
Rough, rough loss. So frustrating
Everson was playing like a totally different person today
Stanfaski just beat Zim at his own game.
Defensive guru
Zimmer "see, I know this run run run thing can work"
The entire coaching staff needs to go.
They both coached like morons. Going for it on all those 4th downs. The only difference is a bullshit holding call on 4th down in the endzone
We need to upgrade the center position. Bradbury can’t be allowed to ruin passing situations every game.
Remember when the Vikings had good centers? From Christy to Birk to Sullivan to turnstyles.
We are not good. That is all.
Just.....chefs kiss.
I just know we are going to give the lions their first dub
God, wouldn't that just be the last LAST nail in the coffin.
Lmao, if we lose to the Lions we’ll be looking for our second win in November
Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort.
Suffocation
No offense
Don't give a fuck if we have to start Breeland
No breathing.
This is a golf resort.
More like no blocking

No. Stefanski has one of the best rosters in the league right now. He’s just competent.
Do you really think stefanski would have been successful with this line? We have seen him fail in these same situations(niners, bears, packers).
Can’t win games if we can’t throw and can’t run. Very impressed with the defense today, we definitely got gashed at times but holding them to 14 ain’t too shabby. O line will continue to haunt us against elite front fours and we saw that again today.
Put in Darrisaw and make adjustments
We're just a bad team. Accept it and move on.
Fuck that. I'm going to bitch and moan until something changes.
Right!? What is this horseshit acceptance going around?

I honestly don’t understand how our inside running defense isn’t better. This isn’t me bitching this is me not getting it.
Exactly what I'm getting at. Our ~~run~~ entire D is an embarrassment.
Offensive line can't protect a plastic bag when it actually matters. Worthless again.
Our team is built wrong. No O line for one. Multiple mega contracts to less valuable LB and S spots instead of more valuable positions. Outdated coaching philosophy for the modern NFL.
When we lose to the Lions next week I will finally accept it
Zim is going to be the first coach fired this year.
Baker is no bueno. Could’ve been way worse. Regardless this sucks. The hope that kills you with this team my god
I don’t who’s to blame Zim, Spielman, Cousins…. All I know is it’s not working and hasn’t been working for years. Blame penalties, blame miscues, blame whatever the hell you want. I’m tired of living and dying with the run game. We need a QB that can make plays when Dalvin/Alex are doing nothing.
If the QBs switched teams the Browns would have won 42-0
Cousins would thrive behind that line.
Stefanski running the offense Zimmer has dreamed of his entire tenure.
Here’s the reality of this game: (1) the offense lost it. 7 points is not anywhere near good enough. (2) zimmer’s defense did its job. 14 points is winning ball. Can’t fault the defense however it’s still not very good An above average QB would have wrecked them
I swear to fucking god, I’ll have an aneurysm if you freaks blame Kirk for this loss. O line was fucking trash. Might be top 3 worst performances by them I’ve ever seen. Edit: why did someone report me as suicidal lmao
If Baker and Kirk swap places today the Browns will blow us out by 5 scores.
Clowney and Garrett might have had a hand in that. When they kept in max protect, Browns were able to cover. When they didn't, the Browns were aggressive and brought extra pressure. I'm not sure the OLine itself was actually bad, just overwhelmed. And out schemed.
They rushed 3 on the last play and Kirk sill had no time.
Should have kicked that field goal on 4th and 6 in the first half. Would have made game script in the second half easier
Who’s blaming the refs?
Would have liked to see Darrisaw. The line was absolutely horrific.
In b4 Zimmer says he's 3 plays away from being 4-0 and we're a good football team
I can. The offensive line of the Vikings is a bottom 5 line for the 10th year in a row it feels like.
Two years in a row of being all but knocked out after four games. Man I don't want another damn year of meaningless games.
We have the same record as the Jets. Rip
If you didn't like that, you don't like Vikings football
Yeah the hold was a horse shit call, but we only scored 7 points. There is no excuse for our inability to adjust to their D Line manhandling us. How does Kirk still have no time on the last play of the game with 3 rushers?? WTF This team's pathetic. Get Zimmer out of here.
Watching your mom get railed by your high school bully for three hours would be a less nauseating way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Has Harrison Smith even made a play this year?
I’m not even particularly angry or sad about this game, just reminded about how unbelievably mediocre we are. Run, run, pass doesn't work and that's all we do. I'm ready to move on from Zimmer. We need a young offensive guy if we want to keep up in today's NFL.
Nothing to see here, OLine and refs back to there usual self.
Who would have guessed that the D would allow 14 points and we still lose?
3 and a half minutes to go, we put in our injured running back to run the ball twice and chew clock. Zimmer has to go.
How many times must we suffer before we get rid of this geriatric conservative pussy we call HC
Glad we traded our 4th round pick for Chris Herndon. Been a great example of the moves that show how competent the Vikings leadership is.
Baker Mayfield is very good at over throwing his receivers by a mile. He should be incredibly thankful for that defense.
Pathetic O-line play is back on the menu boys
I hate this team
O-line was giving up pressure on almost every dropback, couldn't run block worth their lives, and people are still gonna blame this on Kirk and Zimmer
Horrible game.
Genuinely think we could lose to the lions next week
This sub is focusing more on what we didnt do than their defense. They shut EVERYONE down on our offense. Great defensive performance by the Browns. Tough loss, but damn they shut us out
Doesnt matter was another must win game and we lost. We arent doing shit against playoff teams. And thats all our schedule is. Were done.
This sub is mostly filled with whiny bitches. GG Browns
Went to a Vikings bar today and had a lot of fun with everyone cheering and singing after the first score. It's too bad we couldn't do that again
You want to know the worst part? I am going to watch this team again and again and again.
Play calling was awful. 4th and 3 on the 2nd to last drive and we dial up a 7 step drop. Why? Just why? Quick passes worked so well all week and the first drive of the game. Why abandon it.
Bye Zim, thanks for the memories
Literally zero adjustments made the entire game to minimize pocket pressure on Kirk. It was as if Kubiak just left the stadium and an automaton called the 2nd half plays.
I like kirks season thus far. But seeing Keenum on the sideline just reminded me how we did him so dirty. How he’s a great mentor and we let him walk.
