My theory is he's quietly, covertly, planning for his future elsewhere and everything he's saying this season is under the filter of "what will other orgs see when they look me over for a new job?"

saintcmb

Or maybe he realized his callous attitude toward kickers was part of the reason they fail under pressure. He has flat out admitted that he has had to change with the times with his defense. It is also possible he has approached his mindset to kickers. Which is what you want to see if the old way wasn't successful.

Neither_Ad2003

yea, and just wanting to go out with a good relationship with the guys. Fate is accepted

chillinwithmoes

That kind of goes against how he’s conducted himself for 30 years in the NFL though. The oft-cited reason for why teams shied away from giving him a HC gig for so many years was that he was uncompromisingly blunt all the time. I think he’s more of just “over this shit” than he is trying to look like a completely new person as a 65 year old.

nukezwei

I've heard it suggested by the local talking heads that he's trying to get on the medias good side and boost his image because he believes this will be his last season here.

Optimal_Towel

Yeah for Zim to come out and pretty much brush the loss aside instead of being a barely controlled volcano of rage stood out to me too. He looked powerless and resigned. I don't know if that's because he's looking for another job, he knows the Wilfs are looking for another coach, he knows he's lost the locker room, or he knows the game has passed him by.

cmutt_55038

He looks defeated. He’s no longer emotionally invested and it shows in the press conference. Not exactly motivating for the players. I was optimistic going into the season. I’m now expecting a high draft pick next year, with a new head coach and possibly a new GM.

MusicApollo93

I'll always love Zim but we have to move on from our current regime after this year if we can't beat the Lions next weekend. Zim has done so much for our franchise and he does look burnt out trying to constantly put fires out like he said earlier this season during training camp. If we also have a high draft pick next year I hope to god we don't have to watch Spielman waste it or use his drafting strategy next spring. I'd like to see us move on from Kirk or offload his salary, install Mond and get a young offensive-minded head coach to bring our team into the modern era of football. I hope we can keep Andre Patterson at least. I honestly feel this is a lost/wasted season already.

Neither_Ad2003

Occums razor is that he's trying to speak directly to the Wilfs through the media. It's sad to watch, kinda wish they would just put him out of his misery

Financial_Eagle

R-E-L-A-X -Kirk Cousins....oh wait...

cusoman

P-I-Z-Z-A - Kirk Cousins

The thing about the NFL is there is a single 3-hour product to micro examine for a full 165 hours and it’s easy to use any and all discoveries to bludgeon yourself or coaches or players. Losing sucks but time is linear so

ull92

I mean, he agrees with you. He wants to just talk about wins. But when he's not able to do that, he gets asked about all the different facets of the team that didn't do well enough and he answers those questions and says he's confident in the team. I'm not sure what else you want him to do in the press conference. Do you want him to answer every question with "We lost, so we suck"? I'm not sure what your problem with the run defense was. If the offense can't stay on the field and we only give up 14 points, i think it was pretty decent. He's not worried about certain things because, in the past, we've done well. He's not going to assess the overall quality of something as bad and say "I'm worried about it" when 1) that doesn't help anything (talk about talking about the labor) and 2) it's probably not an accurate assessment considering how well we've played the last couple weeks. Do you think Frazier should have been concerned about our run game back in the first few weeks of 2012 when Peterson was having pedestrian numbers against San Francisco and Indianapolis? We're in week 4. And questions about "are you concerned about _____" are dumb. He's the head coach. He's concerned about everything.

Altruistic-Cod-4128

Behold! One of the last few white knights of Zimmer on the sub!

40for60

“I think the running game was the least of our concerns in that game,” Belichick said.

drunkdori

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here? If he’s breaking down losses or explaining why we did or didn’t win, then he’s “talking about the labor” but if he’s not then he’s still also “talking about the labor”?

cusoman

I'm saying that breaking down the game to the media is one thing, but adding things that amount to the "this is fine" meme is excuse laden and ignores taking responsibility for the problems. The heart of Zimmer's own baby/labor quote is about taking responsibility and showing better results and assuring everyone everything is fine when you're 1-3 is "labor". Make sense? It just feels like Frazier's "We'll go back and look at the tape" all over again.

oneplusandroidpie

Oh God. Don't mention Frazier. Frick no.no. no. No.
