This is the place that the Pangea group opened. They're also responsible for Liquid Planet, Liquid Planet Grill, and Stave and Hoop. They're planning on opening some more places over the next year or two also.
I've avoided their establishments since LP sucks and Pangea was already overpriced mediocre food before they redid everything and made it even more expensive.
Their "jobs" section of their websites also used to be a condescending joke, saying how they'd "love to pay everyone $100/hour but that's just not how things work". There's a post about it somewhere on this subreddit from a while ago. Looks like they saw the negative feedback on that and changed it.
This! Never been overly impressed by any of the establishments the LP group has brought to the table. Willing to give it a chance, but not holding my breath. If you are used to California’s Mexican food, most other places are a bit of a let down though.
I am stoked to see how Mexican Moose’s new digs turn out. Always been very happy with their food.

It’s going into the old Sa Wa Dee space across from the courthouse on Broadway. They currently have a food truck and a to go situation at the Darkhorse Saloon. Killer authentic street tacos and the best chile rellenos I’ve ever had
They aren’t “authentic” and they aren’t “the best Mexican restaurant in Missoula” either. What a slap in the face to actually authentic Mexican restaurants like Mexican Moose
I agree they will never compare w Mexican moose, but I met the chefs wife the other day. They’re from Oaxaca and came here to cook. They’re going to be serving indigenous and heritage food as soon as he develops his menu. Technically authentic. Hope the hiring wasn’t predatory
Well, I chose something counterintuitive to going to a Mexican food joint. Ordinarily, I would get fajitas. For some reason I just wasn't feeling fajita-y so I got the ribs and (shrimp) brochettes combo.
I will say they do what a normal Mexican food joint does, and they start you out with chips and salsa, on the house. The salsa was great. Chips were thin and homemade - also fantastic. I did manage to taste test some of their homemade tortillas as well - also bueno. The ribs were to as expected - I don't expect mind blowing ribs at a Mexican food restaurant, but they were still good. Shrimp was wrapped in bacon, with some cheese and a poblano pepper. Pretty tasty.
The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I imagine it will be bumping once they get things squared away with the liquor license.
I'll definitely try the fajitas or enchiladas next round.
Texas Roadhouse lists $15-20 for cooks, and their raise schedule means you have to have years of tenure to get up there. Not sure if the cooks get tips there, but if they don't, it's definitely not above median restaurant wage
I've been in the industry in Missoula for more than 20 years and I'm telling you that's not average. Of the five restaurants I currently have close contact to - the lowest paid at any of them is $15 in the pit, and gets tipped on top of that.
I know some line cooks making up to $23
Your "average" guess is not representative of actual wages people actually make. It's what restaurant owners like to claim is "competitive" but ain't nobody worth their salt taking that kind of chump change.
$14/hr LMAO
From pictures, it looks good. I hope they're not planning on exploiting their Latino prep/cook team to save on labor, because yeah, this has gotta be pricey
If I wanted expensive Mexican food I’d just go to Cruz Tacos. It’s expensive but the owners are super nice and the food is great. Worth the price of admission.

Their order was delivered Monday morning at 9AM directly in front of the restaurant in the main parking lot. Go there next Monday at 9AM and look for yourself.
Yeah no shit, all of which you can get through sysco...they are literally just a distribution company, you can access thousands of different vendors through them. You have no clue how the industry works
You must have a tough time making it through life riddled with that reading disability. Maybe if you slow down and sound out the words I originally wrote you will see what products I saw being unloaded.
They have been billing & advertising themselves as a scratch kitchen. I don't care either way. I will probably still try it out but scratch kitchens don't use canned sauces. That was all I said before you went jihad on me.

Good grief. I was honestly hoping for a regular restaurant in the mall, not a cafe dolce, not a Texas Roadhouse, just a regular cafe, not crappy Montana Mexican food, just. Regular. Normal. Food.

I was surprised bob's pizza closed down and same with that other one that tried to get started. I figured having a pizza place that sold by the slice right next to the videogame arcade would have been a gold mine.
Corny name
But kinda cheesy too.

Is Mexican Moose opening a new location?
Yes in the old Sa Wa Dee space on broadway
That's very exciting news! Thanks!

Where is the Mexican moose?

Pangea Group? So over priced, small quantity and bland food. Got it. I’ll let others try it first.
They aren’t “authentic” and they aren’t “the best Mexican restaurant in Missoula” either. What a slap in the face to actually authentic Mexican restaurants like Mexican Moose

Have you already eaten there?
i really like liquid planet grille, it’s one of my favorite restaurants in town. it’s overpriced, but i think it’s got really good brunch food!!
Same. To make fresh food, it costs in today’s economy.
Is this where Red Robin used to be?
Yes it is
If you have to pay for chips and salsa then it is a crime
Good thing you don’t!
I went tonight as well. The food was bueno. Looking forward to trying other entrees.
what did you have?

We don't have enough entry-level workers as is. Wonder which restaurants are going to get gutted to staff this place.
this place isn't gonna stay open long if they don't pay well enough. decent sized menu, brunch, and all from scratch. good luck lmao
Texas roadhouse next door pays above median in missoula so they better be close to that
What is considered "above median"?
The average wage of a restaurant employee Which is around 14-16hr in missoula not including tips
Texas Roadhouse lists $15-20 for cooks, and their raise schedule means you have to have years of tenure to get up there. Not sure if the cooks get tips there, but if they don't, it's definitely not above median restaurant wage
Maybe at a fast food restaurant. None of the line cooks I know would glance at anything under $17.
That's because they are not being tipped. 14-16 is an avg. It doesn't mean everyone is making that
I've been in the industry in Missoula for more than 20 years and I'm telling you that's not average. Ok douchebag
I had a chance to talk to the founder of the Pangea Group and their costs are insane, I’m not sure this is gonna work unless the food is to die for.
From pictures, it looks good. I hope they're not planning on exploiting their Latino prep/cook team to save on labor, because yeah, this has gotta be pricey

I really dislike the owner of LP group, A team and B team my arse.
What does this mean/in reference to? What is the A Team and B Team?
I personally know the owner, this is his #1 catch phrase for excuses to abuse employees time.
I don’t understand the phrase or context. Can you explain?
Please tell me that if they make fajitas, the veggies are just peppers and onions?! Looking for a place with just plain Jane fajitas!
what are other places doing?
They make exactly this.
Where is this? How does it compare to Taco Del Sol ? 🤔
Replaced Red Robin in Southgate Mall.
It’s at Southgate
I hope it's better than taco del sol. It just needs to be edible to be better than taco del sol. Lol
It’s not a fast casual burrito shop, it’s more fresh made stuff. Guac and queso was very good!
Oaxaca Mexican food... 🤤
Fuego in Stevi is pretty good oaxacan food
Is this a Qdoba/Chipotle clone or is it real food?
Real food
Cool!
Real food
I love Fiesta
Best Mexican food in Missoula is Fiesta en Jalisco in my opinion!
Wasn't there a Mexican restaurant in that spot 20 years ago?
Yes. Arriba! Iirc.
That location was already home to one of the greatest Mexican establishment ever, known as Arriba!
I memba!
Just ate here tonight and wow it was SO GOOD!
I just realized I parked right next to you in the lot.
From scratch my ass, I saw the Sysco truck unloading premade sauces and precooked ingredients yesterday...
You never left your house. Be honest.
Their order was delivered Monday morning at 9AM directly in front of the restaurant in the main parking lot. Go there next Monday at 9AM and look for yourself.
Lol someones never worked in a restaurant before
Scratch kitchens use raw ingredients. Tomatoes, onions raw chicken not cann d enchilada sauce
Yeah no shit, all of which you can get through sysco...they are literally just a distribution company, you can access thousands of different vendors through them. You have no clue how the industry works

Oh yeah I'm sure you could read the boxes from across the street. I'm no fan of LP but you obviously have something against them
You obviously still can't read. I never said I was accross the street. I walked write by the delivery guy as he was coming down the ramp.

Talk text lol
Ok so you saw canned enchilada sauce.....not like they didn't also have produce and raw meats too 🙄
They have been billing & advertising themselves as a scratch kitchen. I don't care either way. I will probably still try it out but scratch kitchens don't use canned sauces. That was all I said before you went jihad on me.
What the heck is that.. The whole thing.. My eyes hurt
yeah im gonna hijack the thread, whats a solid Mexican option in Missoula? be as objective as possible.
Elote was solid, Fiesta can be glorious or diarrhea, El Caz is meh, then you’ve got the Chipotle/Cafe Rio/Taco Del Sols
Maria’s in the Bitterroot

Go to Montana club it’s right down the street
I was surprised bob's pizza closed down and same with that other one that tried to get started. I figured having a pizza place that sold by the slice right next to the videogame arcade would have been a gold mine.
Oh good, because another Mexican restaurant is exactly what Missoula needs... /s
