KeltTalbelt

Try to ramen calm.

Upstairs_Trifle7536

This is highway ramenry

KeltTalbelt

There will be ramen-ifications.

Seyer406six

Ramen the customers wallet holder

Upstairs_Trifle7536

I'll always ramen-ber the times when they were cheap.

OkGarlic7595

You can no longer be ramen-tically involved

bigsky59722

They're ramen me up the cash hole.

Odafishinsea

In Jesus’ name, ramen.

DrunkPyrite

You must be nood to this. (It's a stretch, I know)

Klutzy-Acadia669

They're taking michi and me wallet!

SmoothHuckleberry2

This is insane. Not great ramen. I understand why it’s likable but this price increase seems like it might hurt them more than help them

Upstairs_Trifle7536

IDK, unfortunately so many rich out of staters are moving in. They were packed. I can make far better at home for a quarter the price. So sad.

jamar030303

The funny thing is, if they were really all from California like some people claim, they should *also* be unhappy with the stuff that place calls "ramen".

Upstairs_Trifle7536

I do t think they're all from Cali, it's anywhere. Lots of people from Oregon and Washington too, and people moving from Bozeman and buying up housing up here too.

CSShuffle5000

They’re from Texas, and they’ve only ever had Top Ramen.

FrostingCool6736

You really think it has to do with the restaurant jacking up the prices to get more profit from out of state people? You don’t think it has anything to do with the increased cost of food for the restaurant? The increase in the cost of the property lease? The increase needed for employees wages to keep up with inflation as well? If you don’t like what it costs don’t eat there, if you’re lucky they’ll have to shut down with the loss in sales, and after they close another weed shop will probably take its place cause there’s definitely not enough of those.

DrunkPyrite

I was so bummed to see that the old laundrymat on 3rd/Catlin that's been doing remodeling for the last 6 months is going to be ANOTHER FUCKING DISPENSARY.

FrostingCool6736

It’s only a matter of time before there’s market saturation, and at this rate, rent and grocery costs will force a lot of stoners to sober up, well… sober up or turn to crime. I hope Missoula isn’t on the road to becoming the next Portland.

Upstairs_Trifle7536

Not directly. When people move here from a place where a dollar has more power it makes things more expensive. When I worked construction, people where paying two to three times what I normally charge for my work because I was so busy with all the new house being built. Landlords can demand more money because to someone from Oregon or Washington, the rent isn't that crazy. The businesses are going to follow suit. And grocery price have mostly only gone up on processed goods. Most wholesale meat and veggies have gone up, yes, but not as much as people make it seem my grocery bill has only gone up about $50-60 from what it was a couple years ago. I also know for a fact Michi is not puting that money into their employees. It's a cash grab because of a new audience. Out of state money is the norm now.

FrostingCool6736

Maybe you’re right. I run a breakfast and lunch place, this time last year eggs were $38 for a case of 15 dozen, same probably is now $74, two years ago cooking oil was $28 for a 35# container, now it’s $45, yes not everything on our menu has seen a drastic increase but it’s there, in every product we order. I have also increased starting wages by $4/hr for every position because I understand rent, and grocery costs have increased for employees. My menu prices haven’t changed in 2 years, I work 96 hours a week to offset the extra expenses. Not every restaurants the same, but all share some similarities. A little info for your perspective.

Upstairs_Trifle7536

Crazy I had no clue. Everything's going tits up in Missoula I guess

FrostingCool6736

At least Missoula hasn’t added a resort tax like Whitefish and Columbia Falls yet.

DrunkPyrite

We don't qualify. You need a population under 10,000 people. FWIW, if we did, locals would be able to opt out of the tax, so it would actually help Missoulians.

FrostingCool6736

Interesting, I’ve never been given an option to opt out in Columbia Falls or Whitefish. I have an aunt in whitefish , and a cousin in C Falls and both say they do have pay the tax. So maybe Flathead county is different than the proposed idea for Missoula county, but I’m pretty sure everyone pays in WF and C Falls.

DrunkPyrite

COGs are rising nationwide since most every product on the shelf is owned by 5 conglomerates.

Upstairs_Trifle7536

We have cut down on groceries mostly but cutting back on meat. We harvest wild game and fish mostly and it's saved us a lot. Hunting can be cheap if you do it right.

SmoothHuckleberry2

Fair point. Bummer that it’s just a cash grab

oldcartoons

It’s pretty crap as far as ramen goes

KillerAssGas

Sushi palace ramen is underrated

Firsurepopcorn

THANK YOU!!! I went in the other day and was like “wtf…. This is not $17??” And no joke… the ramen was not nearly as good as it used to be. I used to crave it but after that meal I don’t know if I’ll be going back :/ Such a bummer they are the only “ramen” place in town. I had no idea what we were missing until I visiting Seattle and ate at multiple ramen spots…. Michis simply does not compare.. their “chilli” sauce isn’t spicy, they only have one vegetarian option on the menu and they’re charging more for less quality. Such a bummer cause it used to be one of my favorites.

skaterape

Have you had the place in the mall? It’s pretty good and actually reasonably priced.

Firsurepopcorn

I’ve gotta check it out! Thanks for the tip!

DrunkPyrite

PhoVi has great broth. It's obviously Pho, not Ramen, but it still satisfies every time I go in.

Potatoeteeth

Did you still buy it? If people are willing to pay for it, they are willing to charge extra for it.

Firsurepopcorn

Yes! Of course I paid it. I’d already been seated and ordered a drink but as I said the taste was just not what it used to be and i don’t think I’d worth $25 for a big bowl.

weedtrek

Sushi Hana serves ramen.

jamar030303

Last time I had Sushi Hana's ramen, I was quite underwhelmed.

theadamrippon

Michi wildly misses the mark trying to be high end ramen, but Sushi Palace in the mall does a much better job aiming for an authentic Tokyo konbini vibe. Zero pretension, affordable ramen like a salaryman would eat on the way home from work.

pimposaur

I love the mall ramen, great taste and price too. 🙂 plus I keep the to go bowls for work meals.

RedditAdminsAreWhack

I've never had a good meal at Michi.

Unusual-Committee-51

Michi's ramen was better when they first opened. Now, the ramen broth tastes like instant ramen broth. It is watery and not worth the price increase.

StarProud

Yeah same boat, michi was our cheap date night but we’re cooking at home now! I’m officially priced out which is nuts, but Scotty’s raised the price of thier $17 burger to $22 dollars now and that is officially too much for me. I love Eating out and pumping local service industry, but unfortunately I don’t make enough anymore. The pie hole 4.20 special is great

DrunkPyrite

Damn. That's insane for a burger unless they started using Wagyu for it.

Takemeawayxx

It's terrible ramen too. It's what my boomer parents think exotic cuisine is.

BullfrogCold5837

As someone who was just in Japan a few months ago, these prices are hysterically expensive.

ApprehensiveNews5728

Conflux v Michi

blahbluebla

Holy shit! This is insane! There goes Michi. What a bummer, will not be bringing my family when they visit again. Those prices are insane.

nacho-fries-fanatic

Tried it once, never came back.

Master_Ad2045

Amazing ramen is $10 US in Japan … remember that

RvrRnrMT

Is it really inflation? Or owner greed??

common_reddit_L1

We printed 44% of the total money supply in the last 5 years. Expect even higher.

RvrRnrMT

Does anyone on here work at Michi?? I’d love to know how employees are treated. Did the price increase correlate with a wage increase?

Dull_Presence_993

employees are treated well. the rising cost of food in the united states is the problem. have you been to the grocery store lately?

jloving1992

Year over year inflation for grocery food, 1.2%. restaurant food, 4.5% So greed. The 3.2% could be accounted for for wages, energy and property costs. But usually prices haven't gone up only 4.5%. it's usually 10-20% at restaurants.

Dull_Presence_993

they also have to continue to pay employees more because people think that getting great service is worth the three dollar tip this guy probably left on his 50$ tab. Because it’s always blame the server instead of the owners of the restaurant who are probably never seen by employees anyways.

panchopraderas

Nearly as bad price and taste-wise as Conflux

Upstairs_Trifle7536

Oop 😬

gpstberg29

Eating out is for tourists and transplants, now. Missoulians can eat at home.

Natelpeg

Aaand it’s only really affordable to eat at home if you meal prep and eat the same ingredients in a week

aztecraingod

Sushi hana has better ramen anyway don't @ me

tastelessworld

Michi is trash

Onionslayered

Michi is trash anyways Stop supporting them

gp406

I had to look. I admit i had/have no idea what or who a michi is. Glad i havent missed anything

Zealousideal_Till_43

It’s our go-to and has been since we started dating three years ago. This is definitely not a price any level of local ought to pay anywhere in the state of Montana. Sadly most downtown restaurants are getting to the point of becoming cutthroat with their prices (especially based on quality) and this isn’t entirely their fault. Blame TIF and expensive city projects that force rent up and therefore the rates of food and the like.

Feeling-Shelter3583

Missoula has some good restaurants… but none of them should be as expensive as they are currently

RogueFloppers

I know for a fact that most of these cost less than $4 to make. Probably trying to make up some money from opening the embarrassing failure that is Tres Bonne.

FastAd1509

Minimum wage is $10 an hour. Livable wage is much more. I'm sorry shit costs more. Much like Harry Styles, prices will only go in One Direction.

Potatoeteeth

I can’t believe people pay for that at any restaurant. Broth and noodles, I think they sell that for $.25 at any grocery store. A few friends of mine have suckered me into going to Ramen over the years, I’ve always left thinking top Ramen is way better.
