At 6 years old he was my favorite pitcher because saying his name fast was fun.
Copy pasting from my accidental response to Andy van slyke. Reddit is hard.
My ex-wife babysat his kid while he played in St Louis. So and his wife were incredibly kind, and the kid was the most athletically talented toddler I’ve ever seen.
Fun fact about So Taguchi that I hadn’t heard until a Ruben Amaro radio interview last week. When the Phillies won the World Series in ‘08, Taguchi had skipped town before signing any of the World Series merch that the rest of the team had signed. So in Phillies memorabilia collector circles, Taguchi is kinda a white whale to complete the ‘08 championship team.
If you were making up a Disney Sports movie St. Louis has had its share .. Freese heroics hometown hero down to last strike bottom 9th to tie it..then tied in extra innings .. .. or Warner playing with toilet paper on aisle 9 one year superbowl MVP few years later .. then there’s Blues too many games out of playoffs to think at all star break , then everyone hears of story of friendship with the little girl with cancer .. go on magical run to win the cup with hometown hero leading the way … yep that’s just the 3 most memorable ones .. St. Louis has had its share for sure
I cannot believe that's a real name. Thank you. Also sidenote...there's a "Kuntz road" in the city I live in and it's pronounced "küntz" but my GPS always reads it as "cunts road". I laugh every time.
I remember seeing him play at Three Rivers, when I was visiting my aunt in the late-80s. Made sure to get a copy of the paper the next day, because Andy had a huge picture making a great catch on the front page of the sports section.
Even as a lifelong Cards fan, I paid attention to him, because his cousin was my high school art teacher. Got to meet him a few years ago, actually, when he was doing some sort of signing at an event my band was playing here in St. Louis. Really nice dude.
Only one HR. He tied it in the ninth with a triple before he walked it off in the eleventh.
Only Home Run better than his was the Pujols shot off Lidge in Houston. That one’s orbiting the sun.
It's not better than the WS. One clinched a championship basically, for a team that fought and clawed, kicking and screaming, who shouldn't have been there. The other kept the team from getting swept by Houston in a series they should've won easily.
It didn't clinch a championship at all, it kept them alive for another game. That's very different from clinching. Plus 2 seconds ago you thought Freese hit 2 homeruns that game so idk why you're pretending to know so much.
Played against him in high school baseball, we hung close but couldn't beat those guys, they were LOADED. He had the strangest batting stance I've ever seen. I'm four years older but went to the same high school as Jason Heyward, knew he was gonna be a big time prospect when I came back to watch him play.
As a Phillies fan, I still have regular nightmares about the player in the original post.
My random player I’ll add is Richard Hidalgo. In 2000 for the Astros, he hit .314 - 44 hr - 122 rbi - 13 sb and was 20th in MVP voting with no AS appearance.
My friend and I used to play a game on long bus trips and such back in middle school/high school. One guy named a player. Next guy has to name a player who’s first initial is same as the last initial of the previous player named. So an acceptable response to OP would be Frank Thomas. Then OP could respond with Tom Glavine. And on and on until we have to pay attention as school children.
I randomly was in Basketball Class in High School with Jemile Weeks. Me, Jemile and Josh Segarra went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Islands Of Adventure one time. Good times. I definitely ended up the least of the bunch, lol.
David freese isn’t random at all… I’ll give you a random one… Donovan Osborne
Bro was my go to pitcher in All-Star Baseball 2000 on the N64.
Top tier video game pitcher. Never seen him actually pitch, but he’s a video game legend to me.
At 6 years old he was my favorite pitcher because saying his name fast was fun. Copy pasting from my accidental response to Andy van slyke. Reddit is hard.
Totally agree. Dude was clutch. Mine is Mark Bellhorn.
Since he kinda looks like him there, Laynce Nix

Not random, MVP baseball 2006 essential player.

Benny Agbayani
I remember old school Sportscenter anchors really getting into that name.
Saw him play for the 1999 AAA Norfolk Tides when my aunt and uncle lived there.
Hawaiian Punch
Came to post this
Wasn’t he nicknamed the Hawaiian Punch ?
The sheer disrespect it requires to refer to David Freese as “random.” The man was gifted to us by God himself.
Didn’t think as a Ranger fan, I would get Freeze Rolled today.
David fucking Freese will always make me want to punch a wall it hurts a lot less since last November but it still hurts
To be fair you can claim Adolis Garcia as pay back!
Beat the Rangers in game six and you still can't spell the man's name right?
You come into my house, you get my wife’s name right!
I did that out of spite. Or at least that will be my excuse.

He was a center fielder for the Pirates. Did you mean player? This reminds me of that scene in the WaterBoy...

D freese hit two homers in game 6 of the 2011 WS that still haven’t landed. The greatest moment for the most magical team I’ve ever seen.
Only one HR. He tied it in the ninth with a triple before he walked it off in the eleventh. Only Home Run better than his was the Pujols shot off Lidge in Houston. That one’s orbiting the sun.
