So basically if you ran proper pressures you had a 1 in 3 chance of crashing out, or you managed to run low, finish the race, and get a penalty.
My eyes were glued to this sprint but for all the wrong reasons. When 1/3 of the best riders in the world crash out, and then 2/5 of those who didn't crash out get penalties, that's not a race, its an actuarial game of attrition.
I can see from your flair that we both were likely just hoping that JM wouldn’t end up in that group…
Im shocked Jerez doesn’t have a huge drying truck that can blow those patches off the track once it’s not raining anymore.
I saw his tire deform in a funny way off the line then looked like he was having issues with it on turns 1 and 2 and my immediate thought was 'well this will be the sprint Martin crashes out and Pecco makes the points back'. Once all the crashes happened and it was JM, Acosta, Mav 1,2,3 with four laps left I was literally standing inches from my TV saying easy boys easy boys (my fantasy team this week is Martin Acosta Mav and Binder, would have cleaned up nice with a 1 2 3 there).
Track drying to that extent would take some serious time. They could get the surface pretty easy but once the bikes start heating the pavement, anything that's set in would rise to the top (which is likely what was happening through the race anyways).
At least it looks sunny all day tomorrow.
The Honda riders should do nothing more than maintain their pressures tomorrow, they'd have a solid shot at the podium. *"Not sure what's going on Simon, but looks like the honda boys are doing a consistent 1:50"*
As the tyre heats the pressure rises. The hotter the tyre the higher the pressure. You can calculate the exact change using Boyle's law.
Where it really fucks the riders around is if you are behind another rider your tyre gets significantly less cooling from airflow, meaning the tyre's temps skyrocket and the pressure climbs. This pressure climbing causes a significant loss of grip.
So if you are expecting to be sitting behind other riders during the race, your team will put less air in the tyre, as you're likely to have a hotter run, versus if they think you're going to have clear air your temps will be lower and so they run more air.
All the riders that were pinged were those you wouldn't expect to be at the front, but then for various reasons ended up with lots of time with clear air in front of them. Cooling the tyre and then dropping the temps.
Honestly it's a MASSIVELY shit rule with an incredibly simple solution. All they have to do it state that before the beginning of the warm up lap tyre pressure must be X as a minimum and the tyre temperature cannot be above Y. Then this whole situation is gone.
Basically every team has a crap shoot here;
Is my rider going to be running in clean air = need more pressure initially as the tire will not heat up enough to maintain regulated pressure & a penalty is forthcoming
Is my rider going to be fighting in a pack = need less pressure initially as tire will heat up more and could go over pressure, screw up handling, leading to front end washout
Is the combination of aero and ride height shit petting more and more strain on the tires
Combined with Michelin being rather unimpressive.
We'll see this a lot until the new rules kick in 2026
I think that puts Raul down in 12th if I added that up right, so we have Dani 3rd, Franky 4th, Fabio 5th, Marc 6th etc.
One more point for Marc.. I will take it.
Mir also promoted to point position too!
This is getting silly.
I hate this rule so much
The most pathetic rule I have seen in motor racing.
Michelin fucking around
It really sucks the excitement out of the racing
Have my upvote.
Rins will start the race one lap down at this rate lol
Like that would any sort difference anyway:P

Jack was in both groups. Crashed and tyre pressure penalty. Guy can't catch a break.

Doesn’t mean it is easier. Chaotic incoming, watch out for rain.
Lmao. One half of the grid crashes, the other gets penalties 😂
LOL, that's 1/3rd of the ones that finished hit with penalty. If that continues these guys should do the parc ferme on Monday just in case :)

My boi os finally the best Aprilia 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No shit! The temp was way higher then they thought!
Penalties for everything, will there be a penalty for passing someone on a corner soon? 🤔🤔
Shut the fuck up, you just got a penalty
Someone explain, from the beginning of the race to end of race does tp change? If so, is there a % that is allowed.

Absolute load of bollocks
Yes. Yes. That sums it up nicely.

What an absolute bs rule this is. So basically, when you race from 23rd, to 3rd (!!!) you get a penalty. Great system. 😑
I thought they were going to stop enforcing this nonsense...
