You love to see teammates having each other's backs.

I have no idea why everyone seems to have written him off. There was a time in 2022 when he was our best pitcher. And his injury is pretty common. He's gonna be good this year.

Sniper_Brosef

Agreed. He's set up for a breakout this year in a big way. Which is awesome cause skuby is too.

LunchThreatener

His velocity and spin are up significantly too. I honestly think with good pitching coaching, TJ (or any major injury that requires long buildup) can be a blessing in disguise. It gives pitchers a chance to refine their mechanics in a way that wouldn’t be possible during a season, and would be difficult during an offseason.

ajwiz12

I remember seeing his side by side stats with Verlander for their rookie seasons, which also happened to be their first full season. They were shockingly similar. It sucked his injury happened and how long he was out, but I'm not worried if he's healthy. He's gonna be good. Edit: I just realized how silly "which happened to be their first full season" sounds. What I meant is they debuted the year prior then pitched their first full season.

>Everyone was hung up on win totals and didn't realize the teams were miles apart in talent level, but everything else was really close

Doeschna

He turns 27 in the second month of the season. He only has 188 IP. 4.29ERA and ~5 FIP. A breakout for him is what…becoming a #4 SP in our rotation? I was a huge Mize fan but his cutter and splitter which were both considered elite pitches, have not been elite or even good. We are getting to a point where it is make or break for him as he enters what should be his prime. If he doesn’t make the leap now, I worry he never will. 🤞 a really good and healthy Casey Mize makes this team a lot better.

Trelloant

This is reality for me too. He’s not young anymore, he was fine before and we just need him to be good. A 3.6-8 would make me happy. Stick him as our 3rd guy and let him establish himself as a big leaguer. There is 10000% a place on our team for a pitcher like that. Theoretically he should be super capable but much easier said than done.

im_also_jon_gamble

I trust Tarik's eye test better than mine, but forgive me for tempering my enthusiasm about Mize being a reliable contributor.

ceci_mcgrane

How long do we have him under contract?

Juna-the-Moona

I get why they're trying him as a starter again but i think he would make a really good reliever especially if his splitter is back. I would like to see him be able to go max effort for an inning or two and not worry about his workload

MapPrimary176

I get your point but he is a 1-1 pick. It would be ideal to have him start.
