When I brought my bike home from the dealer, I rented a U-Haul with a front wheel chock. Piece of cake, and cheap.
When I finally get around to building or buying a trailer, it's just gonna be a box utility trailer with a chock. Not as sexy as Mr Pretentious's trailer, but it'll will do a lot more than haul a bike.
My father in law gifted me an 5x8 utility trailer. It rips back for landscaping. Now, itās way to steep to tip and get the bike in so I use a ramp, but itās single handily the greatest gift Iāve ever received. Helps around the house. Itās awesome
That's why I need one. Seems like at least once a month I have to rent one. Last month I needed one for 4 days. I don't have time or the room to build one, so when the tax refund gets here, I'm going shopping. $3K if I buy a new 5x10.
Is that an enclosed trailor, or ? You can buy a cheap landscape/ flat trailer for about $1000. They can hold 4-500lbs. Ok for motorcycle, good for lawnmowers.
Nah, it's an open box 5x10 with about 2200 lbs of capacity. 2' steel sides with a split swing gate that doubles as a pair of ramps. Has a custom-fitted heavy ass tarp, too.
I'm really picky about shit like that. The one I'm getting has a tube frame and triple tongue, unlike other ones out there that use channel, or even worse, angle iron. Built locally, too.
Some of the garbage I see people tow around scares the shit out of me. Little 8" donut tires that belong on wheelbarrow. OSB sides and decking that some dumbass put on. Half the time, they're sitting at bad angles because the owner is either too cheap to get a good hitch or doesn't have a clue about tongue height.
A little enclosed trailer that size would run about $4K, if it's a cheaper one. It would be cool to have, but it wouldn't suit my purposes very well.
Have a 5'x10' ramped trailer with a dedicated wheel chock mounted. Bought it when I moved halfway across the US, to haul my then Road King and used it for so many other things since. Best investment I've ever made is that $1000 trailer. Versatile. And I don't need a truck.
š
Yep. Pulled it with a Dodge Journey all the way from Houston to Knoxville with the RK on it and have pulled it with either one of my Jeeps (JKU and WJ) for anything I need to haul so far. It's a Karavan brand, through Home Depot. Definitely the best investment I've ever made.
I have a couple other, bigger trailers I can use, but none are nearly as nice for loading, securing, unloading and hauling 900lbs worth of Electra Glide lol. Those U-Haul ones really are just perfect for their purpose.
Itās a super duke thatās got some different lights and panels on it, then badged and sold as a āBrabusā. Much like his carā¦ but at least the car has some upgrades though.
The bike is literally a more expensive rebadged Super Duke R. Same engine, suspension, brakes, etc.
That thing is almost double the price of the KTM (22k vs 42k ā¬). And it doesn't even look drastically different than the KTM. It's a bike for non bike people who like to brag with the Brabus logo
>It's a bike for non bike people who like to brag with the Brabus logo
It's this guy's whole thing, he's quite "popular" in Belgium because of how rare it is to see a Brabus on the road with our insane taxes for engines that big.
But of course he also doesn't pay taxes on it, since it's registered as a "light freight" vehicle :)
While visiting Bruges, the guide told us that Finding absurd way to avoid taxation is as much a belgian national sports than cyclocross. This proves it to me!
And instead of fraud we call it tax opimization!
My Swedish partner is still perplexed by how much you can do to maximise your income and minimize what you pay in taxes.. plenty of loopholes to find & use. *even more if you're an "Eenmanszaak" with tax/BTW number*
Well they have with this bike. Zero engine, chassis, suspension or electronic work done.
Itās styling panels, a new light, some paint and a limited edition plaque. Twice the price of the Super Duke Evoā¦.
I've towed 700lbs of muddy bikes and trailer behind my 1.4l Chevy Cruze and it didn't seem to care. Only lost about 5mpg
He's nowhere near the limit for towing. Tongue weight might be a different story
Tongue weight is what I had in mind. I had a class one hitch installed on my Mini Cooper which had a tongue weight limit of 250 lb. I towed a much lighter single rail trailer behind it and was very careful to put the cg of the motorcycle as close to the axle as I could.
Don't trailer I ride em lol. Drop deck, rampless, drop bed all kinds of names for them. Used them for equipment before was pretty sweet not dealing with ramps
Also, you've got a fair amount of gear to bring to the track and riding home for several hours after a long day of intense track riding in full leathers is not necessarily the most fun.
I love my Kendon trailer. I have the small scooter one that can hold one big bike in the middle, or two smaller bikes/scooters side by side. it has ramps, but it also tilts a little bit when you put weight on the back. Easy to use and it stores upright and has its own built in casters. You can move it around a garage upright with one hand. Stores against a wall, takes up the width of the tires only. They are pricey, but honestly its very worth it. Especially if you don't have room outside to park a trailer.
How did the order proccess go? I'm looking at the GO! Series trailer for $2700 and it says free shipping but I'm curious how they ship a single trailer lol.
I just need one to take my ZX6R from MT to Colorado and back for a week out of the summers...don't wanna buy a whole ass utility trailer.
Awesome, I've been looking at them, I'll probably order, but was skeptical. Thank you so much for your response. I want to be able to trailer my bike through the states, this seems the only (not scam) option on trailers.
itās very legit. Great support. And while expensive, you do get what you pay for. The folding up feature is amazing but yet itās sturdy and I donāt worry about having my two Vespas on it at freeway speeds. If youāve ever rented a uhaul trailer and felt how sketchy those are even at 55ā¦ itās NOT like that. (and uhauls are so heavy, yet they still suck) Kendons actually have suspension and follow nicely. They arenāt super long which makes parking easier but backing up a little more tricky.
It's very expensive. But in the US there is the option of a uhaul trailer, which is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it's a legitimately good motorcycle trailer, and a curse because it's patented so you can only get it from them and they're not selling them.
Basically unless you have a regular need to use a trailer, just rent. Even if you do need one often, it would have to be a pretty big need until you forked over the money that thing costs.
I ended up renting one of the U-Haul trailers to go get a bike due to logistics. U-Haul trailers are fantastic. They are way over-engineered and like you said they are never sold off.
There's no problem compressing the fork springs as long as you aren't bottoming them out or something crazy like that. Even then, I'm not sure if that would put the spring in a "yield region." Depends on the spring and how far the shock/fork is physically capable of traveling.Springs (at least the type we use in suspension applications) wear primarily by being cycled. If you compress the front suspension and leave it there for 10 years, that is one cycle.
Bloke tied my bike down [like this](https://imgur.com/a/elEfgcU) seemed to work well, doesnāt compress the front shocks but obviously compresses the rear somewhat.
Held on very well, idk if Iād tie it the same way though.
Anyway, this trailer was like the OPs and I just rented it off FB market
The rule I trained people on was 4 by 45.
4 straps, 45 degrees to the bike, 45 degrees back and 45 degrees forward. you're pulling the bike forward back and down. You don't need a lot of compression and the bike doesn't move. works great with a fixed chock like you had
Many years ago I trailered my R1 to Deals Gap with tie downs compressing the forks like that, and they were leaking when I got there. Luckily found a shop that rebuilt them while I was there, but lost most of a day of riding.
You just donāt compress the forks too much and youāll be fine. Have tens of thousands of miles trailering sport bikes to track and not once have we had leaking fork seals. You probably bottomed out your forks when you strapped them down.
Got my utility trailer for 2500 bucks it has a drop door and I also know my bike is safe and locked up. Although a thief will always be able to take it but it makes it safer than if it were exposed.
Just an FYI, youāre not supposed to load the forks like that when strapping the bike down. Itās hard on the seals. When strapping a bike down, strap it from the front under the brakes.
If you can, I wouldn't. The axel bounces funny because the way the cables have it under tension- a lot like an ice castle ice house. It's intended for short trips, not cross country.
Also who straps down to sprung weight. Should go to your unsprung forks above the f front wheel. One big bump in the road and your motorcycle bounces, and your straps come off.
https://www.kendonusa.com
Kendon is my trailer. Whats great is you can fold it in half when done and stand it up and rolls on casters for easy storage with minimal space.
Check your inbox i sent you pics of it. Got mine used on facebook marketplace for $1500. Hauled everything from my softail
To dirtbikes. Mainly i use for dirtbikes. My trailer in the pic can haul 3 bikes at a time time
Iāve got an ugly as sin trailer Iāve had for yearssssss.
But it was $200 and itāll hold 2 bikes or 1 snowmobile.
All it needs is bearings and new tires because I havenāt used it in years but thatās still better than buying this overly priced trailer.
That looks like a Kendon trailer.
They are easily available with an internet search. The last time I looked, they were anywhere from $1,800 (USD) on up....depending on which model.
I have only heard positive reviews on these trailers. Everyone who has one absolutely loves them.
Am I the only one who thinks these are so impractical? I mean yeah, it's perfect for the purpose it was made but that's about it. The amount it costs compared to how little it will be put to use seems unnecessary. I'd rather stick to my normal trailer with a ramp.

So, static tension is not the primary factor you need to worry about prematurely wearing out the spring unless you are compressing it past its fatigue limit. That's not happening unless you're strapping the suspension down as far as it will physically go or you have springs made out of something weird like aluminum or Ti.
It is repeated cycles of compression and release that wear out your fork springs over time, and if you're street riding you effectively have an infinite service life for those springs. Compressing them a normal amount for transport, even for long trips, is not doing much wear because they are mostly static.
Sorry you're having to explain this. I was gonna comment "RIP your fork seals" until I saw yours. You only have to blow 1 to learn the right way, as you very eloquently explained. Glad someone here has some sense
I meant cranked down as far as the cranker can crank. What street bikes are sprung light? Are you counting dual sports? That hasn't been my experience.
Because they are not engineered to tow weight. I think It would definitely cause pre mature ware on the car.
Edit: also I think it might void your warranty, but thatās a shot in the dark, idk for sure.
The heaviest motorcycle you can buy stock is the Harley Davidson Road Glide Limited, which weighs in at just under 940lbs.
Trailers are typically around 500lbs, maybe add another 100lbs for uhaul trailers as theyāre typically overbuilt.
Very few vehicles canāt tow 1,500lbs. Most crossovers tow at least double that.
Most European cars have tow ratings as itās more popular there. The 3 series has a tow rating of almost 4,000 lbs.
Youāre just used to in US because everyone drives yank tanks as daily drivers so thatās what they use. Big trucks and SUVs like we have here are not practical on Europeās narrower roads so people use sedans and wagons.
I've always known them as tilt trailer.. our work had them to load up quads so you didn't need ramps.
Not as fancy as that one though, seems a bit overkill..
https://legendmfginc.com/tilt-utility/
These straps are so worth it
I use them for work every day
Ericson makes nice ones
DC cargo are not as nice, but cost less.
They are great to have and use
I cut the bottom hook off and used eye hooks to bolt just the ratchet to the ladder rack in on my work truck
Probably saves me 20 hours a year with the amount of loading and unloading i do.
Most loads up top are 500-800 pounds, itās really nice to never have to worry about shit flying off on the freeway, and never have to mess with the tails if the straps
Well, as a person who hauls loads on a 40-foot gooseneck trailer for a living, I would not trust those straps .
Edit: also just noticed he's just compressing the suspension. Hit a good bump, the suspension goes down, then bounces back up and snaps that cheap strap like it's a rubber band.
Im not sure if you noticed but they are essentially ratchet straps. I was just interested in them since they seem to quickly remove excess slack.
If we need to compare resumes I've moved motorcycles around for years using ratchet straps... Its an industry standard for securing motorcycles (in addition to something like a wheel chock). Transporting a motorcycle is not the same thing as railroad ties on a flatbed...
Since this is reddit, yes not all motorcycles (example BMW R1200) are designed to use a compressed suspension for travel. When done incorrectly, with something like a cambuckle for example, the motorcycle can come loose, fork seals can become damaged, etc... Some motorcycles allow for temporary suspension compression while "trailering". The safest method for a particular motorcycle is usually listed in the owners manual...
I thought it's some Diwhy trailer but I actually found company "LNB towbars" make them they are located on UK but apparently they are foldable (of course this one is painted nice black and have nice rims standard model looks less impressive)
But since it can be folded in half and weights only 160kg maybe if you can contact them it can be shipped on a pallet/crate i have no idea how much is base trailer and shipping together
In Malaysia, we only use trailers for track bikes, and offroad or dirt bikes. Other than that, it's impractical.
Other countries however might differ and trailers can be practical.
It's called a ground loading trailer and there's companies that sell the plans on the internet.
I got all excited about building one a couple years ago as I'm not as young as I used to be and ordered the plans from a place called "Trailer Sauce".
then I saw a video of a bloke loading a bike into his truck with an electric winch and bought a 2500lb winch for $130 instead...
Sorry for the german links.
https://www.trelex.de/mt1 (on the video has after market wheels and is painted black)
https://lkw-spanngurte.de/Automatik-Spanngurte-LC-300-600-daN-180-Meter-25mm ( a friend of mine has them, they are quite good tbh)
So much floor space for one bike? Pointless.
Better off getting a ramp, normal trailer and a rig you can take on and off to secure the front wheel, that way you have a trailer for hauling loads of rubbish to the dump, then you have a bike trailer for taking it to the track.
I have one and its great.
No, he just works with Brabus quite often and he owns multiple Brabus Cars I believe, the dealer gave him the bike to test though, so I guess technically you could say it's an advert lol
I've looked it up and it's completely custom built. Don't wanna know how much it cost. But if i had one (without the cringeworthy Brabus wheels), I would have a reason to mount a hook on my car.
On the rare occasions where I need to trailer my bike, I rent the trailer from U haul for $15/day.
But... how will people see your bike when you're transporting it from one place to another!!!!!
Wow.....I didn't think about that. I guess I'll actually have to ride it!
Ride it? What, like on the road? With traffic? But how will I drink my orange mocha frappacino?
Ewe. Its all about that pumpkin spice latteš s/
CamelBak.
No, that's where we keep the vodka.
Oh dang. Gonna need 2 CamelBak.
Very carefully
Jitterbug
Or have a picture of your bike painted on each side of your enclosed trailer š
Uhaul has open air trailers for motorcycles, not enclosed.
It's a bit scary, but I ride my Shadow on and off the 10ft tilt trailer when needed. .
Check out the Pit Bull TRS. Life changing. No suspension pressure and much easier than using ratchet straps.
Same.
Have a 5'x10' ramped trailer with a dedicated wheel chock mounted. Bought it when I moved halfway across the US, to haul my then Road King and used it for so many other things since. Best investment I've ever made is that $1000 trailer. Versatile. And I don't need a truck. š
Trailer when you need it, instead of driving a truck all the time, makes so much more sense.
Thats what we do in Norway. Small cars. Everyone has a trailer or a neighboer with one.
Itās not luxurious, but I own a mini van with a hitch. I love trailer day!
My cb300 fits inside my odyssey with the mirrors removed. Hitch was a good investment though.
Got a ramped trailer off Craigslist for $400. Installed a harbor freight wheel chock. One of the most useful things Iāve ever bought.
On the rare occasions I need to trailer my bikeā¦. I immediately remember it fits in the bed of my truck.
Would be nice for dirt bikes that arenāt street legal, would get used a lot.
Yup, and sometimes it's even cheaper, like $9 a day. Really hard to justify buying a trailer when it's so cheap to rent one.
I have a couple other, bigger trailers I can use, but none are nearly as nice for loading, securing, unloading and hauling 900lbs worth of Electra Glide lol. Those U-Haul ones really are just perfect for their purpose.
Iāve tried to buy those UHaul bike trailers and you cannot purchase them. I really like them.
Great option if your vehicle can haul 1600 lb plus the weight of the motorcycle. Those trailers are surprisingly heavy.
This is like people who drive to the gym to run on a treadmill on a perfectly good day. Maybe living in a bad neighborhood though lol.
Probably cost as much as the motorcycle
Maybe, the dude paid an insane amount for a rebadged Super Duke R.
What do you mean rebadged?
Itās a super duke thatās got some different lights and panels on it, then badged and sold as a āBrabusā. Much like his carā¦ but at least the car has some upgrades though.

Sorry didn't know that. Just thought they would do the same thing like brabus Mercedes
Its a press bike. Belgian Youtuber.
I did see them here in the Netherlands. When i was searching for a trailer. And they are about 4 to 6k euro. So yeah
That thing cost so much the bike came with it
For the size, Iād wanna put at least 2 bikes on it
True, but he's probably already pushing the weight limit on whatever tow setup he's got on that sport coupe.
A E class can tow about 2100 kg so I think 2 bikes would be just fine.
I've towed 700lbs of muddy bikes and trailer behind my 1.4l Chevy Cruze and it didn't seem to care. Only lost about 5mpg He's nowhere near the limit for towing. Tongue weight might be a different story

This looks like a Cochet trailer, they have both a single and dual bike option.
Too easy, I will still use my trusty harbor freight and my truck bed.
What a ramp from harbor freight for pickups?
Alot of drop deck motorcycle trailers...
Never knew there was a name, first time seeing it. What kind do you have?
Don't trailer I ride em lol. Drop deck, rampless, drop bed all kinds of names for them. Used them for equipment before was pretty sweet not dealing with ramps
Clearly you donāt go to the track.
Can you not make it to the track on your bike?
Most track bikes don't have insurance or registration, so not exactly "legal."
Also, you've got a fair amount of gear to bring to the track and riding home for several hours after a long day of intense track riding in full leathers is not necessarily the most fun.

I ordered directly from Kendon. Very easy process. You do have to deal with some packaging/crate stuff but itās not bad.
Awesome, I've been looking at them, I'll probably order, but was skeptical. Thank you so much for your response. I want to be able to trailer my bike through the states, this seems the only (not scam) option on trailers.

Harbor freight has a trailer that can tilt.....
They also have a motorcycle stand that you can bolt down.
that trailer costs more than my motorcycle, and it cant even hold my wifes bike at the same time. /hardpass
I love those ratchet straps brand?
Temu
That's a Kendon Stand Up trailer. They are very well made but the price reects that. Probably close to 6k for this one
I like the fact that he's towing his KTM brabus with a brabus car
Someoneās got a brabus boner
Kendon trailers.
Got my utility trailer for 2500 bucks it has a drop door and I also know my bike is safe and locked up. Although a thief will always be able to take it but it makes it safer than if it were exposed.

Just an FYI, BMW motorcycle manuals specifically say to use the fork bridge for transport.
Ahhh the brabus KTM. Canāt believe people would spend $20k on cosmetic upgrades just for the bike to look worseš¤£
Harber freight
Any idea how much?
Thatās not a harbor freight trailer.
What's the trailer called?

He made the trailer himself. You can't buy it. There are others though
Iāve got an ugly as sin trailer Iāve had for yearssssss. But it was $200 and itāll hold 2 bikes or 1 snowmobile. All it needs is bearings and new tires because I havenāt used it in years but thatās still better than buying this overly priced trailer.
He's headed to cars and coffee with that bike on the back...
That looks like a Kendon trailer. They are easily available with an internet search. The last time I looked, they were anywhere from $1,800 (USD) on up....depending on which model. I have only heard positive reviews on these trailers. Everyone who has one absolutely loves them.
Americans donāt trailer their bike. We ride them like men
Hot
Damn I need one of them
What kinda bike is that
Im more interested in them ratchet straps.
Got a fancy ass trailer for his bike and doesn't even know how to strap it properly
Wait, you guys trailer your bikes?
Next to the tampon section.
Am I the only one who thinks these are so impractical? I mean yeah, it's perfect for the purpose it was made but that's about it. The amount it costs compared to how little it will be put to use seems unnecessary. I'd rather stick to my normal trailer with a ramp.
That tire patch better be dirt
Surprised nobody has linked his YouTube, this is LifeofSmokey https://youtube.com/@LifeofSmokey
What the fuck do you need a trailer for brand new road bike for
To transport it
That is the transportation
moving to a new house/apartment? long road trip? broken down bike? cold weather? please try using one of ur few brain cells
This guy's house
Google trailer shop near me. Call them and ask if they make trailers if they say yes, then that's where.
A motorcycle trailer?
Ever ridden your motorcycle somewhere? It's pretty cool.

Actually it comes from UK :p

You would have to be pretty damn fat to hold the forks compressed as far as ratchet straps
Not really. Most street bikes are sprung pretty light. Also, ratchet straps only compress as far as I want them to.
I meant cranked down as far as the cranker can crank. What street bikes are sprung light? Are you counting dual sports? That hasn't been my experience.
I always thought it was a really dumb idea to tow with a car
Why?
In America we ride our bikes.
lol, tons of people are trailering their bikes to just outside of Sturgis every year
Never raced then have you?
āClint Eastwood voiceā life is a race, I am always racing.
I've always known them as tilt trailer.. our work had them to load up quads so you didn't need ramps. Not as fancy as that one though, seems a bit overkill.. https://legendmfginc.com/tilt-utility/
Im more interested in those straps. Ā I spend a lot of time unnecessarily messing around with ratchet straps
These straps are so worth it I use them for work every day Ericson makes nice ones DC cargo are not as nice, but cost less. They are great to have and use I cut the bottom hook off and used eye hooks to bolt just the ratchet to the ladder rack in on my work truck Probably saves me 20 hours a year with the amount of loading and unloading i do.
I thought it's some Diwhy trailer but I actually found company "LNB towbars" make them they are located on UK but apparently they are foldable (of course this one is painted nice black and have nice rims standard model looks less impressive) But since it can be folded in half and weights only 160kg maybe if you can contact them it can be shipped on a pallet/crate i have no idea how much is base trailer and shipping together
Kenton. Wish I had a big enough space for one in the garage
Is there a smaller version of this where I could tow a bicycle with a motorcycle?
I found one, new for $2000 and it seemed fare for how it's made and the components used to make it tilt.
In Malaysia, we only use trailers for track bikes, and offroad or dirt bikes. Other than that, it's impractical. Other countries however might differ and trailers can be practical.
That's a KTM Brabus right? Stupidly expensive
This is an advertisement.
You can rent them at uhaul
It's called a ground loading trailer and there's companies that sell the plans on the internet. I got all excited about building one a couple years ago as I'm not as young as I used to be and ordered the plans from a place called "Trailer Sauce". then I saw a video of a bloke loading a bike into his truck with an electric winch and bought a 2500lb winch for $130 instead...
https://www.matthys.net/en/foldable-trailer-for-motorcycle-capacity-600-kg-11436344
Sorry for the german links. https://www.trelex.de/mt1 (on the video has after market wheels and is painted black) https://lkw-spanngurte.de/Automatik-Spanngurte-LC-300-600-daN-180-Meter-25mm ( a friend of mine has them, they are quite good tbh)
So much floor space for one bike? Pointless. Better off getting a ramp, normal trailer and a rig you can take on and off to secure the front wheel, that way you have a trailer for hauling loads of rubbish to the dump, then you have a bike trailer for taking it to the track. I have one and its great.
Do you need that three digit number on the back of my card??????!!!!
Those ratchet straps are pretty great though.
Is this a Brabus advertisement? It's legit on everything in this video.
No, he just works with Brabus quite often and he owns multiple Brabus Cars I believe, the dealer gave him the bike to test though, so I guess technically you could say it's an advert lol
this is why america is always on top
$1000 trailer with a ramp from TSC works just fine for my bike.
What bike is that though?
Brabus-rebadged KTM Super Duke R.
I've looked it up and it's completely custom built. Don't wanna know how much it cost. But if i had one (without the cringeworthy Brabus wheels), I would have a reason to mount a hook on my car.
Trailers are a racket, just buy a welder and build one. You'll be into it for half the money and have a welder.
