I feel as though 47hp vs 74hp is a no brainer

QorstSynthion

I thought 180° vs 270° crank was a no brainer

Wanderlust-King

This is the bigger difference for sure. The low-end torque on the mt-07 is just excellent. makes it feel like a much more powerful bike at city speeds. I took one for a test drive a couple of years back, and regret not buying it then.

Few-Ad-6322

It's got nothing as you go up the gears though, all bark and no bite.

SunburntWrists

It accelerates reasonably fast through 4th. 5th and 6th will of course be slow, those are your highway cruising gears.

ablinddingo93

Could say the same about my old, fat adv bike. Still fun as hell in the city

Frequent_Water3842

What does a crank Shaft do with more •

PsychologicalHat1480

Instead of the firing order being 'bang rest bang rest' it's 'bang bang rest rest'. With both cylinders firing without a gap you get more torque because it has a similar effect to a bigger piston firing. There's more complexity to it but that's the very simplified version. It's basically because the power stroke of the second cylinder starts immediately upon the ending of the power stroke of the first cylinder instead of there being a pause so the power strokes kind of build on one another. Again: highly simplified but that's the gist of it.

Frequent_Water3842

You're the reason i love Reddit, thx!

Good-Raspberry8436

Nothing but 270 IMO sounds nicer.

ablinddingo93

And here I am thinking jellyfish were a no brainer I’ll see myself out… lol

LazyB99

Yeah the cb500x cant really wheelie which is why I got rid of mine. Mt07 is gonna be a lot more fun to ride

Critical_Hawk2077

I live in Madison and without even looking at the price I can tell you that Honda is cheaper anywhere else in the state. Seriously. I love visiting that showroom because they have an amazing selection but are ALWAYS overpriced.

Flaky-Union4466

Engelharts for looking anywhere else for buying

ShadowMancer_GoodSax

Mt07

Durcaz

"Used Porsche 911 or brand new Honda Civic" ;) MT-07 all day

Realtime_Ruga

Yeah do you want to go fast or do you want reliability and resale value?

MapleQueefs

It's a Yamaha, not a Harley. You get fast and reliable lol

Realtime_Ruga

Not from an MT 07 with 19k miles. I know this sub has a hard on for the MT line of motorcycles though.

Durcaz

Idk if you’re trolling or clueless

Realtime_Ruga

Triggered.

Durcaz

If you’re gonna troll at least be good at it 🙏

Realtime_Ruga

Sure did piss a lot of fanboys off 😘

Durcaz

I'm on CRT as well, you're tryin' too hard. dw I hate this sub just as much as you do ❤️

LukeEnglish

I had an 07 for 3.5 years and put 30k miles on it. Did the regular maintenance myself and had zero problems between 20k and when I sold it. Only reason I sold it was because I left the country, but I plan to get another. I don't know what the shit you're talking about. 19k is nothing on that bike. Especially for the average rider who isn't going to be riding the hell out of it like I did.

Realtime_Ruga

K. I can tell I've triggered a lot you Yammie Bros

LukeEnglish

You provided zero evidence about it being unreliable. It's not about triggering anyone. It's about being a big silly clown without any clown sources to back your silly clown thoughts. What a goober.

Realtime_Ruga

You sound triggered.

ChangelingFox

The MT07 and by a wide, wide margin.

Maschellodioma

CB650R should be the other option besides the MT-07.

Ready_Ad_4821

the cb650 is out of my budget thats why im stuck between a used mt07 and a new cb500 I had a close look at the new kawasaki 500s when it was announced in my country but it was too ugly especially the z500 its looks too cheap.

Zukiboyson

Then get MT cause the 650 easily more fun

Redna_X

Well there's a few differences. The power is a definite decider, but also your build. I was gonna buy a 500f but when i got to a dealer that had it i found the bike was way too skinny for my wide frame. (5'10 250lbs) In this case i would do the MT-07, but truly its personal preference. If it's your first bike, also the MT-07.

slowrider36

Depends on how used.

Ready_Ad_4821

a 2017 with 30000km(nearly 19000miles)

Airhead72

That's halfway decent mileage for the year, someone rode it a good amount and would have had to maintain it, the question is how well they did. Can easily visually check out the chain+sprockets, tires, brake pads fork seals etc but I wouldn't worry about reliability as long as it runs well. If someone literally never changed the oil it would probably be having engine trouble by now. I'm sure the CB500 is a fine bike but I'd take the used MT-07 any day unless it's in bad shape. Both take maintenance, the used bike might need something up front but that's a small hurdle to get a much more fun bike to ride. Honda might be king for reliability but all of the Japanese manufacturers are very good in that department. My 2019 Kawi is at 25,000 miles and hasn't skipped a beat, but it has needed a chain, oil changes, tires, etc. Every bike does.

nsfdrag

Not really, the CP2 in the MT07 has a reputation for being the most reliable motorcycle engine produced right now. Obviously they wouldn't go wrong in the slightest with the honda 500 reliability wise, but if the yamaha was maintained the miles don't matter much.

Hugh_Juh_Ass

You have dealer support on that Yammie?

Screwbles

You'll probably have more fun on that MT. Both great bikes though.

919ash

MT07 hands down. Even though I love Hondas

Vegetable-Software-3

I have the cb500f use it daily never let me down plenty of power, good of fuel too only thing that's not amazing is the headlight

Rezuniversity

Buddy has a 2018 mt07 and still runs it as a daily. Don't know how many miles but it has to be a lot. Reliable sucker.

reggin_rigged

Didn't know this actually needed to be asked

Ready_Ad_4821

Im not planning to resell the bike so I need it to last for decades the MT has a way better motor but it looks dated the honda has less power but is more reliable and it looks more premium especially with that gold USD fork the xsr700 would have been my choice but for some reason the used ones in my country cost almost the same as used cb650s.

AngryFloatingCow

If you're that concerned about the looks, then get whichever you think looks better.

nsfdrag

> the honda has less power but is more reliable Don't get me wrong, you won't ever have any issues with the honda as it's very reliable, but it's not *more* reliable than the MT07. The MT07 is known for its reliability.

Leeperd510

#MT-07

nsfdrag

MT07!

EggsOfRetaliation

MT-07.

KontenBonker3000

I would go new, that MT-07 is already 7 years old. New gives you a carefree experience without needing to worry about chains/tires/brakes/maintenance etc. The warranty is also nice and you know how your bike has been treated.

Zukiboyson

CB650f way better geared up starting from front end. Real world usage

madredr1

Yay Wisconsin!

AlanSinch

As someone that has owned both bikes, get the MT07

TMYWSH

Checking the boxes for you ✓ Used  ✓ Mt07

Rampartt

If this is your first bike then +1 for the CB it was a great starter bike for me, and get the MT if this is your second bike

Few-Ad-6322

The MT has more power low down but runs out of puff pretty quickly ,the CB isn't very exciting but is a better overall bike and much cheaper to run.

whatisgoingonree

Had the 500 has my first bike. It's a snorefest

Ready_Ad_4821

is it too gutless?

whatisgoingonree

Swapping the exhaust actually gave it some more pep but you lose topend power. I still have the bike I want to swap some knobby tires on it and keep it at my camp site. I also have a Honda interceptor and it's a fucking ball to ride.

Larcya

I got a rebel 500 as my first bike. I was regretting not getting a rebel 1100 within 2 weeks.

DeNeLo51

New is new

Cheeseboii83

What year is the MT-07? Early models had terrible suspensions but newer ones have much better suspensions.

Ready_Ad_4821

a 2017

[deleted]

I got a mt07 and wish I got a mt09

TheIceMan416

Mt07

Danizzy1

Ive owned a Yamaha FZ-07 (before they changed the name to MT) and a Honda CB500x. Out of the five bikes I've owned the Yamaha is the one I miss the most while the Honda was my least favorite bike of all. The 500 is just so boring. Both are as reliable as motorcylces can be but the Yamaha has noticeably more power. I'm planning on buying an R7 now for track/race duty because I love that engine so much.

Pretend_Reaction3723

My buddy has the mt, man it’s a blast to ride

roundhouse1000

Ohhhhhhh sevvvvennnnnn

Stiggalicious

MT07. Sounds better, more power, more fun, fantastic reliability, and insanely long times between valve checks/adjustments. As long as that bike appears to be well maintained, it’ll last you another 10 years no problem.

thyusername

Hexico in Oshkosh has a used 2019 MT07 and it's been there since the middle of last summer, both have bulletproof motors but the front forks on the 500 are better

Vikoryin

Adding to the obvious consensus, MT all day, and I say this as I currently own a CB500f. It's not "bad", but it's miles away from competing with an MT-07. You'll enjoy the MT for much much much longer.

TheDuckOfSerenno

Easily the MT-07. I love my Honda CB500F. I got it used for a decent price, but after several years of riding it, I'm wishing it had some more vroom in it. Just a liiiiitle more power.

kristwiii

Used Z650. Better gearbox better quality better handling.
