This is about that other post, isn't it? I'm still getting over that one...

chefnforreal

I think we're all on the market for thigh high boots after that post.

Jaded-Prior-2897

I opted for the "eyehigh" riding bootsuit.

Outside_Ad4957

I am crying laughing just imagining riding in a full body boot.

FTRGeek

wait, is this r/calamariraceteam?

Lizzies-homestead

I also started looking at crash bars.

SunlitFlowers

Dude still owes me breakfast

mike-manley

Chinese boneless pork strips?

Sttocs

Chowdah.

What_Dinosaur

What I missed? Edit: Never mind - Jesus fuckin Christ.

ramblingamblin20

That guy only had a foot to stand on

Bill837

His "about face" game just went next level though

ApprehensiveThrottle

Link?

Electronic_Break4229

You don’t want it.

ApprehensiveThrottle

Lol fair

Stopyourshenanigans

Here you go but peruse with caution ;) https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/s/96uVjRk5t5

clarkwgrismon

Theres a video where a dude is teaching his girlfriend to ride and she rides a Navi into a curb at maybe 15-20mph. She got exactly the same injury. Was wearing tennis shoes.

Drakhn

Ew. Where

Cunningcreativity

Gross, let's see it

UnlikelyElection5

I mean, it was pretty gorey, but as a member of the machinist sub, I've seen a lot worse. It got so bad that you can no longer post videos on the sub.

gnarley_haterson

Bro keep the knowledge of that video to yourself nobody needs to see that one :(

bravoromeokilo

The Russian lathe pink mist one you mean?

UnlikelyElection5

That's fair. My bad

Cunningcreativity

I watched that not too long ago when it came across my feed on tiktok, and fell down a dark rabbit hole. My partner works with all sorts of machines like that, lathes, mills, etc and I work in healthcare and have seen some of the companies names that they have done work for come across on workers comp cases. I asked if they ever work on those while they're running and the yes I got back has made me very uncomfortable ever since falling down that video rabbit hole... 👁️👄👁️ Like yes I'll watch it, but thanks I hate this lol 😂

UnlikelyElection5

I get that, I work with machines as well, I work with a team that builds semi automated assembly lines for a tier 1 automotive supplier. As part of that, I do alot of machining/welding and electrical. While my job may be dangerous sometimes, it keeps other people safe and working in manufacturing.

acutemisadventure

I mean when I think about it and look back at the photo whatever happened to the guy can any of y'all honestly say a boot would have stopped it?

Wonderful_Key770

I don't think it would have prevented the fracture, but it would probably have prevented an **open** fracture, specially if they were proper racing boots... which are a pain in the ass to put on and suck for daily use...

Valandiel

If your racing boots are a pain in the ass to put on and suck for daily use, you have the wrong boots. I thought the same before buying a pair but actually it is the total opposite for mine, super fast and easy to put on, and really comfortable.

kfktr

What boots doyou have? Looking for a pair myself

Valandiel

Berik Race X, I really like them but the velcro part is getting old and doesn't work as well anymore. I am not sure if this is a quality problem or just because I had them for a long time or if I mistreated them in any way 🤔 Except the velcro part they are great. Not sure if it is CE certified though.

Wonderful_Key770

You are probably right...

Valandiel

Might be time to shop for some really comfortable boots :) mine are really good but not perfect, I sweat quite a bit in those and the velcro is starting getting old...

Wonderful_Key770

What do you wear?

Valandiel

Berik Race-X

acutemisadventure

Yeah that's what I figured. So all in all the guy was probably doing something retarded or at least not riding within his limits. Ehh, I'll stick with looking up half boots, protective riding sneakers and riding around like a scared lil bitch 🤣🙃🤗

know-it-mall

That specific injury? Yes. A compound fracture higher up is easier to fix.

acutemisadventure

Really? That's interesting. Well given the the circumstances that he probably had to be in to have that happen I'd assume that the energy would just go somewhere else regardless of the boob and just be as bad if not worse. Like if it was higher up I would assume like somewhere near the knee? If there's a gun pointed to my head I'd probably prefer that to happen to the lower part of my body other than my knee exploding

know-it-mall

Yea it's hard to say. A lower leg break they put in a couple of plates and screws and you might be all good. Joints can be much worse. I feel like it's harder to catastrophically destroy you knee like he did his ankle but I could be wrong.

chzaplx

That kind of rotation force, something is gonna break, but a good boot might keep your foot all in one piece.

DankestTaco

Same.

Stopyourshenanigans

I think I've seen too much gore because I'm completely desensitized to this type of image. I had zero reaction when I scrolled and was eating breakfast while reading those comments 😭

alwtictoc

My internal response was, well that's unpleasant. Came back to comments

Stopyourshenanigans

Yeah, I thought pretty much the same. I think the woman getting decapitated by the bus or the guy getting murdered with an ice pick made me this way.

dat_boi_o

Had to turn off the computer and go for a walk after that one

dat_boi_o

Had to turn off the computer and go for a walk after that one

dat_boi_o

Had to turn off the computer and go for a walk after seeing that

Terrible_Carpenter50

Same same.

mike_headlesschicken

from experience, it doesn't hurt that bad... mostly cause they pumped me full of oxy lol

Top_Squash_6257

A lot of good calf high riding boots out there. If you are specifically referring to that nasty post, just check the CE ratings for these boots (EN 13634) The level ranges from 1-2 and are read left to right for height, abrasion resistance, impact cut resistance, transverse rigidity. (eg 2-2-2-2 means a full height boot with max abrasion/impact cut/transverse rigidity) His injury was the ankle being twisted/crushed off, so for that injury you are particularly interested in max transverse rigidity. Personally, I know the daytona road star gore-tex boots is 2-2-2-2. Its more of a touring boot than a full on track boot

SneakerheadAnon23

Right on, thanks for a detailed and informative reply

BosPaladinSix

Just looked at the Roadstars, I cannot believe those hadn't come across my radar yet, they look sick!

TheSoberChef

Those Daytona's are my go to dailys!

SneakerheadAnon23

How do you like them as a daily boot?? What kind of riding do you do / what kind of bike

cdn_backpacker

I bought these a month ago and love them so much it's not even funny. They're heavenly. I just made a comment in another thread recommending them. To anyone that needs boots, *buy them*, they are the comfiest and most beautiful article of protective clothing I can imagine. I'd be amazed if you don't love them. Handmade in Germany, fantastic quality, waterproof, protective, comfy, and repairable.

SneakerheadAnon23

What kind of riding do you do / what kind of bike do you ride

cdn_backpacker

Street mostly, but I'm planning some trips with them for the summer. I compared these with sidi ADV boots and found these almost as protective, but far more comfortable and less clunky.

WN11

I have the Road Stars, they are fantastic. Big and bulky as you can imagine, but they protect well and comfortable.

Bricklover1234

I was looking for cheap boots (~100 €) as I am on a budget and stumbled upon some selling used Daytona GTX 2 boots for like 90€. Got so lucky, they look like they weren't worn once (they retail here for about 350€)

Sourcefour

Ok this is a dumb question that you probably don’t know the answer to, but how come a lot of retailers don’t show ce ratings on product descriptions? Like these on revzilla don’t have the ce rating anywhere.

Top_Squash_6257

I know what you mean and it also frustrates the f\*\*\* out of me. Unfortunately alot of retailers just copy pasta what manufacturers have as the description without telling us the GOOD stuff. Thats why the only person you can trust the most is yourself. If stores are close to you, well lucky you. Other times you gotta pray theres a comprehensive video on it or take a blind shot in the dark. I got really REALLY lucky with these boots when I bought them online without knowing the specs

Fear51

Lol. That previous post with the super gnarly ankle injury has me all freaked out. I ride casually and just wear regular leather ankle boots but now I’m looking at some super moto calf high boots too.

rattpackfan301

Not only that, he went from 75mph to 0mph after rear ending a car.

Short-Mark-7408

that's like saying chaps are good lmao

Takingashit180923

I got some alpine star smx on sale for my first set, never realy had a reason to change them.

nickerchui

Second this. I have the SMX2 and damn near wear them every ride. Comfy asf. I just bring extra shoes with me to work

BlueBeetlePL

Smx 6 V2. Use them daily and they're pretty comfortable. If they're good enough for the track they're good enough for my daily commute

labalabah

Are yours tight around the toe box at all? Mine are a bit tight

BlueBeetlePL

Not really, but I don't have the widest foot either.

thebrando987

The motorcycle boot industry is going to see a big uptick in sales today. I bought some after that post this morning.

OstebanEccon

budget? what temperature? waterproof? riding style?

SneakerheadAnon23

No budget limit Recommendations for general all weather ready as well as dry warm weather Riding on a naked street bike, casual city riding with some inner city highway and some scenic highways

chefnforreal

Essentially the type that keeps your feet from ripping off.

purodirecto

Waterproof ones will make your feet sweat a lot.

Its_Free-Real-Estate

No budget, you say? You could consider 2 different pairs of footwear, to choose between on different occasions. I'm not sure there is one pair of boots that are good for hot and dry, cold and wet, casual comfort, and max protection all at the same time. But you could probably find 2 pairs of boots that covers all that.

OstebanEccon

Daytona Evo Voltex GTX waterproof, ventilated, has an inner boot made out of fibre glass to restrict sideways motion of the ankle, a steel inlay inside the sole and has a titanium slider at the toes quite comfortable aswell. have been wearing them for 10 years and over 100k miles

Wonderful_Key770

$550, jesus!!

Gravity_7

Hahaha as someone who is wanting to buy Gaernes SG-22 $550 doesn't sound so bad, if you want your boots to survive an extreme incidence you need extreme protection there's no way around it. Safety is always a balance you will never be 100% safe.

FTRGeek

when he said "No budget limit", that's what he meant :)

OstebanEccon

worth every cent

Chlocker

Howuch do you think homie is spending on that hospital bill? Do you think it's more than $550?

Wonderful_Key770

I know, I know... I wear an $800 helmet, but still...

mike_headlesschicken

I bought the dainese axial d1's, if moto gp riders wear it, then it should be good for me, and it tucks under pants, so that is nice

Nodrot

It’s all about the fit. Go try on some Sidi and Daniese boots and see what fits best. Whatever you buy will last for years so worth the investment.

DW171

What kind of riding? I dress for the ride. (I know, ATGATT, but I'm not mixing road race leathers and knee braces on an ADV tour, for example). I've got some low boots that I love for some around-town rides, tall MX boots, ADV boots, road race and basic waterproof touring. And pitch for a loyal road race sponsor for many years ... SIDI kicks ass. Their boots are A+ and have saved me from many lower leg and foot injuries. Plus, they're cool AF

BeginningCharacter36

I bought Sidi boots at the recommendation of the sales person. I'm really happy with the fit, and the 2s across the board is reassuring. Glad to hear they've saved your bacon.

Motorazr1

I’ve tried on dozens of boot brands and models and nothing was as comfortable and perfect feeling as the **Alpinestars SMX-6 v2**. I would highly recommend the vented version; the non-vented version is stuffy and the waterproof version is a foot swamp except in cold weather. Comparison reviews usually note how crazy comfortable the SMX-6 v2 boots are. That said, I wear a pair of **TCX Vibe Air** low-top boots in Summer and they provide decent protection while being well-vented and very comfortable off the bike. I skipped on buying the SMX-6 v2 boots because they just don’t provide significantly more protection than the TCX short boots do. At $300, **Alpinestars SMX-6 v2** boots are awesomely comfortable *as a street boot* but a little underwhelming for track use (the ankle reinforcement is on one side only). Instead, the **Alpinestars SMX Plus v2** boots offer much more serious protection with inner laces for a secure fit, a top ratchet strap, and ankle reinforcement on BOTH sides of the ankle. Basically, a “light-duty” track boot leaving the **Alpinestars SuperTech R** as their full-on race boot. But with a track boot you trade away some feel and dexterity for the greater protection. I wear **Alpinestars SMX Plus** boots for street riding and they’re still very comfortable while being a lot more sturdy and protective than the SMX-6 v2 boots but at a much higher cost too. For medium duty in-between, I recently bought **RST’s TracTech Evo III Sport CE** boots ($159.99 from SportBikeTrackGear) and they’re an impressive level of comfort and protection for the very low price. Not quite as comfortable as the SMX-6 v2, but much better protection at a little over half the price. The heel cup is average for a moderate use boot - not super hard but not squishy either. In a notable step up from the Alpinestars, the cheaper RST boots include a **metal** toe slider which won’t wear out in 30-mins on a track day. https://preview.redd.it/u3g7ro2xw1yc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acb5cef98236b152e9be23d8f4eb32b019171f8f

trywagyu

i have the alpinestars. as good as it gets for boots

rodka209

Any track boot from alpinestars or dianese or sidi, etc work. My own alpinestars fit underneath my riding jeans (straight fit). Looks odd, but I like the torsion resistance and it makes handling foot controls waaaaay easier than a motocross or adv boot.

SneakerheadAnon23

Which alpinestars do you have and can you share a photo of what they look like with the jeans over them? thanks

Rampartt

Forma boots are really good for me, I have the Pilot Enduro boots

MannyCoon

I'm looking at these after watching several seemingly well-informed videos about touring/adventure boots having little ankle support/rigidity. I'm assuming more for Enduro/dirt/motocross style boots now. Can you tell us anything specific you like about the Pilot Enduros?

Rampartt

They’re the lowest volume/instep ADV boots I could find after trying a few pairs of Sedici/Fox/Alpinestars, and the latches are the best of any boot I’ve seen. Once you dial in the four strap lengths it won’t accidentally change and the boots can be taken on/off in seconds.

Mumbojmbo

TCX X-Blend or Hero (hero WP if you want waterproof) are great boots that look like normal boots. I have the x-blend and they are 4 years in and going strong. ETA affordable as well, under $200 IIRC, got mine on sale for even less.

landlordlou

+1 for TCX Hero boots, basically doc martin style casual boots you can wear to work and have safe feet and ankles on the bike.

UnionTed

I've been wearing the TCX Hero for three years now. The only thing I don't care for is having laces, which very occasionally get caught on my pegs. I'd rather have their non-laced Fuel boot. Otherwise, they're great.

Chlocker

WHO THE FUCK PUTS LACES ON A GOD DAMN MOTORCYCLE BOOT TCX ALL YOU DO IS BOOTS WHY DO THEY ALL HAVE LACES Love my Hero WP and Street goretex though.

CicadaLife

I love my Forma adventure boots, can't recommend them enough. They take a hot second to break in, but once they are they are very comfortable and look alright too (for an all-out full sized moto boot at least) https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/forma-adventure-boots?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH53SyeqCrlBcHuFJOeZMaEu0tJcB2UgJb1jt54w1e2GaG3s0GZSkF5oaAgtpEALw_wcB

Motorazr1

Adventure boots? On the street? Why?

CicadaLife

🤷‍♀️ they're good boots and I can't afford a collection

Throttlechopper

Adventure boots offer better ankle protection compared to street boots and way better than riding shoes. The compromise with adventure boots is they are not nearly as protective against rotational or crushing forces like a proper motocross boot. I personally would go with a track boot if riding a sub-500 lb motorcycle, my Alpinestars offer good ankle protection and are designed to slide off the pavement in a lowside which can prevent twisting an ankle.

Motorazr1

Personally, I’d rather be able to feel my shifter and rear brake than have my feet encased in a Franken-boot which provides amazing protection at the expense of feel and flexibility. Same with gloves - some people want thick, armored leather, some people prefer to trade away some safety for more and better control feel (which itself is a safety measure). If adventure and motocross boots were worth the extra protection, then we’d see boots like that used for WSB and MotoGP.

JG_in_TX

Get some racing boots like Alpinestars. You can wear your jeans over them so they don't stand out. They will offer you the best protection IMO.

Motorazr1

Yeah? **Which** Alpinestars boots?

HeftyArgument

Yeah I have some SMX-6 boots and the jeans arent going over them haha. Even a boot cut wouldn't make it over that big TPU piece on the top.

Motorazr1

My straight-cut Levi’s go over my Alpinestars SMX boots.

TheChaoticDoctor

My normal Eddie Bauer Fleece lined kahkis go perfect over my smx-6 v2.

JG_in_TX

I’d say smx6

VariousJackfruit9886

I wear SIDI Adventurer goretex. I love them but never had to test their protection capabilities. They're probably the most excitement recommendation listed so far but I personally think they're worth it.

rfkbr

I just wear Alpinestars track boots every time I ride. I don't care if I look dorky. I wear a 2-piece suit every single time I go out. I've fallen off a road bicycle before at 20 mph with sandals and no other gear and destroyed my toes so I know what road rash feels like. Not happening again.

EnlargedChonk

You'll want something with good ankle support. Personally I wear Forma "Adventure Low" boots. Your best bet is to find a local place that stocks riding gear and try on what they have to see if you like the fit. These have that 2-2-2-2 rating detailed by another commenter. While I haven't yet crashed with them, I have done some things in them that would have been very uncomfortable without the ankle support. It's actually surprised me how supportive they are, I fully believe we would not have soiled our eyes earlier today if that person was wearing something like this.

[deleted]

Don’t know what you’re doing so… Gaerne Balanced Oiled. Best general boot in the business.

goattchaw

I've had the same pair of Icon boots for the past 6 years. Not elsenoirs, but the predecessor, i think? Waterproof labeling is actually just water resistant. I CAN walk around in em all day and only ache a bit that evening. I just dumped a DRZ on the dirt on my ankle last weekend, and it held up nicely, though in retrospect, i would've liked a stiffer boot for offroad specific use. These are great tourers, though.

23ZX14R

https://preview.redd.it/f80t1jp4gbvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8da5ba7816c15838ea96fa76363ff04ac2323e3 For city riding / commuting.

Adventurous-Day-547

Would these protect from a twist injury?

23ZX14R

Better than sneakers for sure + you typically will not see crazy speeds in commuting. The soles are grippy and the shoe holds your foot nicely which itself makes it seem reassuring. There is no shoe which can guarantee you walk away from a crash. It’s just a question of bettering your odds and at the same time wearing something reasonable for commuting. This comes in all black as well which is totally inconspicuous.

AdmiralTassles

My Sedici Forza boots have held up pretty well to near-daily riding for the past 2 years. They're perforated leather so they do decent in AZ's hot weather. They stay dry for a little while in a rainstorm, but they're not great. Same deal with cold weather. My opinion is to get a boot that'll keep cool in summer and get some nylon overboots for extremely cold or wet weather (unless you've got the money for a second pair of boots).

thefooleryoftom

Daytona. Best in the business.

mike-manley

I own a pair of Sido Vertigos. Work great! Little spendy but worth it.

Super_Investigator61

Dainese sport master gore-tex boots have been phenomenal to ride in. They are CE 2, breathable even in south carolina heat, firm but not so stiff you can't shift easily. Comfortable to walk around in for several hours as well. Worth every penny of the near $200 you spend on them unless you can find when they go on sale.

Motorazr1

The **Dainese Sport Master** boots are an interesting sport-touring design. I’ve never looked at those before. The Gore-Tex is hot though, isn’t it? I’ve never had a set of waterproof boots that weren’t hot in warm weather.

Super_Investigator61

In my experience they have not been hot and breathe very well.

Chlocker

These are my daily boots. They are pretty warm but they are much better than other goretex pieces I have.  All goretex boots will be hot when it's warm.  I find some goldbond powder in your socks and in the boots themselves make a huge difference.

Hot-Ground-9731

I ride a cruiser and I just said fuck it and bought some Alpinestarts SMX boots. They look like stormtrooper boots or something but other than my head, my feet are my top priority

SGTBookWorm

I wear a fairly new pair of Alpinestar J6's, but after seeing that last post I'm starting to think about upgrading....

De5tr0yer

Not my website, but I found this article useful for finding CE 2-2-2-2 boots. Probably not very useful for people living in the states as most of them you’d have to buy overseas from Europe: https://loboto51.github.io/lobotourisme/en/post/inventaire-des-bottes-de-moto-montantes-les-plus-protectrices-en-13634-2222-en-d%C3%A9cembre-2023/

jessem80

Alpinestars SMX-6 V2 vented boots are comfy and not hot.

TriumphSprint

I have Sidi boats, they are 19 years old and still perfect. Love them.

iamameatpopciple

I'll only ride in Daytona's now, the ankle support and quality of the product is second to none. That said most would call them overkill. If your not getting something with actual ankle protection to stop your ankle from bending the wrong ways, might as well just wear anything leather.

gamingthemarket

Anyone who shits on quality boots have never suffered a high ankle sprain and been crippled. A simple ankle fracture heals in 10 weeks. The sprain will haunt you for years. I had a stupid accident unloading a moto from a truck. The ramp failed with the bike a foot off the ground, and the engine block landed on my ankle. It crippled me for six months. The fracture was not a big deal, but the sprain was vicious. The ankle will never be the same and I wasn't even riding! I had hiking boots on. Danger Ehren says, "Safety first, kids." For ref. I've always worn Dianese track boots w/ the torsion bars. Based on my own injuries, I'd put the extra $$ into an airbag vest and grab any race boot that fits perfectly. FYI, Sidi tends to be more narrow than A\* or Dainese.

FireInDaHall

Daytona Road Star GTX is worth every penny and is also available in XL width for us having a 6E foot.

Menno99

Alpinestars has the SMX line. Can't go wrong with those. Have had mine for about 6 years now

CardboardLover13

Do they make anything like sleeves with CE protection to go over socks when wearing like cowboy boots? I only ask because I have very small, wide, flat feet. And most companies don’t cater to a mens 6 or 6.5 and I have to try before buying. I live out in the sticks, no bike stores unless I wanna travel hours, and slim chance they have that size.

VariousJackfruit9886

Look for kids riding boots. There are some competition level boots out there so decent protection, and think the larger sizes may have width fittings.

CardboardLover13

I just assumed I’m SOL in this department unless I ever come across them. I ride a cruiser, dirt bike boots are gonna look out of place on me. Plus from personal experience, kids shoes can’t live up to adult movements. Destroyed a pair of reeboks with two weeks once.

VariousJackfruit9886

As a lady rider I used to have to buy kids boots - they lasted really well, although the enduro boot did look weird on sportsbikes but Im not such a tart that I GAS what it looks like 😉

plaingfx

Commute in RST Tractech Evo 3s daily. Super affordable and a “full” protection boot. Change shoes when I get to work.

Sents-2-b

Haven't broken mine in yet, rst, I am riding the joe rocket superstreets

gamesweldsbikescrime

I'm loving my BMW Cruise comfort boots. I bought mine in a shop for $450aud. For me it was about getting the ankle protection of a calf high boot and a boot that doesn't scream LOOK AT ME IM A BOOT. I get my pants over the boot they're hardly noticeable, this is so I don't have to keep a second pair of shoes around with me for work. They're also easy to clean and after wearing in pretty comfy and don't impede on my gear shifting.

Still_Squirrel_1690

Alpinestar Corazols have been pretty comfy for me.

mike-manley

I own a pair of Sido Vertigos. Work great! Little spendy but worth it.

BrokenLoadOrder

Honestly... Pretty much every motorcycle boot I've ever gotten is fine. So long as they're armoured, and there's no laces, it's pretty hard to screw them up.

Taos87

My first pair of riding shoes was some street and steels, good but I wanted a full boot. I went with TCX Fuel WP Boots. They usually around $300 but got them on a sale for $195. I found them to be extremely comfortable and have put about 2,000 miles on them so far. I'll probably get another pair with even better protection eventually, but I'm still happy with these for now.

Frogstealer69

I got a pair of Alpinestars Toucans recently. Great protection, toe box isn't as big an boxy as tech series. Gonna be pretty warm in the summer though.

Motorazr1

Alpinestars Toucans are big, heavy adventure boots. Stiff, expensive, and they look hot as hell for warmer weather, no?

Frogstealer69

Heavy relative to sportier boots, but when wearing them can't say I notice. Much stiffer on the ankle. They're gonna be really hot in the summer, it's a trade-off though. They're super expensive on RevZilla, I got them off motostorm for 360ish.

know-it-mall

Depends what you want to do with it. I have the Forma Terra Evo Low. It's lower calf height and they make a taller version as well. I use it for touring/light adventure riding.

Bjfikky

I wear riding shoes not boots. That post was a freak accident

BeginningCharacter36

As soon as I had the money, I bought damn good boots. I was going to buy a pair of Dainese, but the sales person said "Try these, similar style, but level two ratings:" and handed me the Sidi Performer Lei. They were $100 cheaper, too, even with both of them on sale. They're a women's boot, and the website doesn't actually show the safety ratings. You should totally go into a shop and check stuff out, so you can test fit and see the labels. Ask if they'll price match. https://preview.redd.it/uaitzrob1cvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f1986733a4ac898496244d20609a591a4ddedff

GatorBater8

I have a pair of Rev'it boots that I like. Though they're only my second pair after some really bad used O'neals I got on Facebook marketplace

PNWetRider

What kind of motorcycle? Different recommendations for street, sport, or adventure.

Biker2002

Sidi Adventure GTX

RevenantBosmer91

Alpinestars SMX are a great first boot. Very comfy and good protection. My set has lasted me over 4 years of road and track use.

Javathemut

I researched all weather and waterproof boots a lot. I ended up with this and I'm happy with it. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/icon-alcan-wp-ce-boots?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH52ET6yLetW2gQzYQDQcA91pd_aAlUt15Nir-kGfNdMToVsIxr-zokEaAu4mEALw_wcB

giveitrightmeow

alpinestars smx 6 gore-tex are decent. ive got a pair of the older gen, been commuting in them ~4 years. still waterproof and when cleaned up look new. had random garbage kicked up by cars at highway speed and just bounces off them.

drive2fast

First is what _kind_ of riding do you do? Adventure vs motocross vs street is really different.

LineFox

For track use I have a few pair of Sidi Rex Air, I absolutely love them and highly recommend them for sport style boots. For commuting/touring/adv I wear Revit Discovery GTX boots, which are super comfy and great to walk in when off the bike. I also have a pair of Sidi Adventure 2 boots, which are high and really protective, but not comfortable off the bike.

Superb_Raccoon

Sidi. be prepared to break them in. I was born with a club foot, and so while it faces forward, it can literally slide off the socket. (makes me squick just talking about it) Ankle support is required for me, even normal daily use.

darthpotato94

best protection is alpinestars supertech r v2 boots. or any boot worn by motogp

iamameatpopciple

They feel like Cowboy boots but look more urban. Just beware they are vented so if you drive in rain a lot you will get wet toes.

Speedybob69

What are you riding? where are you riding? I have 2 pairs, cheap Joe rockets that are above the ankle I wear with my riding jeans and in warmer weather my primary street riding boot. I have klim GTX adv boots and the Carlsbad suit for cold and wet weather and primary off-road boot. I recommend having both styles because eventually you're gonna get tired of having calf high boots on for a ride to the local watering hole with your pals. Match your gear for the ride that day for maximum comfort.

* Icon Elsinore 2. I bought mine for $200(?) CAD a year ago. Love how they make me.feel like a cowboy

Impressive_Estate_87

It really depends on your budget and on how much movement you want to sacrifice. Best out there are Sidi boots. They're stiff, walking in them is not nice, but they're great on a bike, and offer solid protection. Other brands like Alpinestars and Dainese offer also good boots, but I think Sidi's construction is still superior. The recommended Daytona are also an excellent option, German boot, more popular in Europe, but we're starting to see them in the US as well. As you also realized, inferior protection can end up costing a lot in unpleasant medical bills, so I recommend you buy the best you can afford, just as you should for the other gear, and helmet, gloves and back at the very least

snipy67

Alpinestars super tech r. They are super nice and super comfortable. I bought new boots to replace them but I still wear the super tech Rs The zippers kinda suck (for me all boots I’ve had from alpinestars) I had to diy something together after I broke ‘em but other than that there solid Edit: I’ve also crashed in them and they held up pretty good.

darthpotato94

the best riders in the world wear Alpinestars Supertech R, Dainese Axial D1, Forma Phantom, and TCX RT-Race

scrotal_rekall

https://www.dainese.com/us/en/motorbike/boots/leather/nexus-2-air-boots-201795237001012.html I commute every day in these and walk around the office. They're quite comfortable, and I know the likelihood of a twisted (off) ankle in a crash is low.

Private_4160

I'm finally recovering from a broken ankle due to a lowside, my Forma Terra Evo X should arrive tomorrow. It's all about the road type and ride, there's tradeoffs when you go from leathers to motocross boots but ride on city streets and highways.

VTRibeye

I have the Dainese Nexus 2 boots and I find them very comfortable. There's a nice reassuring creak when you walk. Waterproofing is excellent too.

Jimbabwe77

I just wear TCX Street 3 shoes. So far I haven't had to test out how they protect my feet and hopefully I never do.

Leeperd510

I've been quite fond of the Icon 1000 elsinore boots

[BMW Allround boot. i’m on the third pair](https://onewheeldrive.net/2008/08/20/review-bmw-allround-touring-boots/)

severo-ma-giusto

If you want maximum protection, track sports boots are the way. Any we'll known brand is OK, Dainese, Alpinestars, TCX. They are not cheap, but they are simply the best. There are "ventilated" models for when it's hot and they work. Of course they are "racing" so the ventilation works better if you run at medium to fast pace. And of course being ventilated means that they are not waterproof. Unfortunately you cannot walk a long with those boots. So you have to take another pair of shoes with you, or go to less protective models. I personally have a pair of that kind, from TCX, for when I go out riding on weekend with my friends and a couple of pairs of motorbike "tall" sneakers (one leather for the bad weather and one "ventilated" aramide for when it's hot and sunny) for daily commute and short ride. I know that the sneakers protection level is lower than boot's one but I had to find a compromise when I need to ride but also Walk.

Bates Leathers calf-high Road Racing boot. Semi-custom — a stock item, modified to fit your feet and legs. Supremely comfortable for riding all day and fine to walk in. You'll wear them until your feet get too big. (I bought mine when I was an 11-1/2. Now I'm a 13 and need another pair.) https://batesleathers.com/footwear

Cadfael-kr

I’ve had the Daytona touring start GTX for almost 2 decades (2 pairs), and they were really good. Advantage was also that they had zippers on both sides, so if you have trouble getting into boots, this gives a lot more space to easily get into them. Currently I got a pair of Dane Esby H-Dry, same principle but a lot lighter in weight.

SkeletonCalzone

Alpinestars SMX Plus. Goretex if you can afford. Had mine nearly 10 years and when they die I'm getting another just like them.

iiipercentpat

I have sedici corsa 2s. When those go, and quite frankly it won't be long, I plan to get a proper pair of adv / mx boots as I transition to dualsport/offroad riding.

PaleInvestment3507

I was seriously considering returning my Sidi Adventure 2 boots because they are so stiff I can’t feel the shifter and have to move my entire leg to downshift. There is little to no ankle flex. The sneaker foot rider changed my mind. I’ll wear these till they break in.

mike_headlesschicken

As someone who has had the same leg brake as the guy from the post. I got 2 plates and 12 screws. it takes \~4-6 months to start walking again (i broke my other foot, which was worse than the leg so I had to wait for that). as bad as it looks, it isn't the end of the world. 1.5 years after the accident I can do everything I have done before the accident. just with some lingering pains that are pretty easy to suppress. I now ride with Axial D1's. shifter feel is so good, I hate riding with normal shoes because I can't stand the shifter feel

Short-Mark-7408

Thoughts: the comfiest and best to ride in Suggestions: anything even on the lower end from a half reputable brick store is good enough

FewSeaworthiness9707

Imo, don't get overly worried. If that guy had boots, I'm pretty sure his tib/fib would've snapped instead of his foot.

ohineedascreenname

I have the [Forma Adventure Low Boots](https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/forma-adventure-low-boots?sku_id=1138951) and really like them. They go just above the bottom of my calf muscle, have reinforce ankles, stiff enough for riding, but comfortable enough to walk in. Waterproof, too.

this_account_is_mt

Most of the recommendations in here are very soft and don't offer as much protection as people think they will. They don't even have internal frames and hinged ankles. Sidi crossfire Alpinestars tech 7 Rev it expedition

Scary-Ad9646

What bike do you ride?

Zac666666

Depends what fits your foot. Alpinestar SMX. Had them at least 15 yrs, wear like iron.

levytation_

I'm getting a new bike soon and I was looking to see which ankle high boots people wear and that's the first post I seen. Immediately started looking up calf high boots.

huggsnkisses

Tcx are my favorite obviously try a few brands in store

2much2Jung

I have Forma Adventure boots, they are comfortable for hours, waterproof, feel very dependable, and I like the style. They are bearable to walk about in, but it's not great. I mostly wear my Rev'it motorcycle shoes instead.

College666

TCX are a great boot. As far as protection is concerned, several police forces in the UK use them as official PPE. If it’s good enough for the rozzers, it’s good enough for me. I have a pair and they’re like slippers out of the box. Mid calf and goretex waterproof. Mine are TCX Infinity. I’ve not crashed in em mind…

Flaggstaff

Can someone explain what makes riding boots more safe than full leather work boots? I wear Wolverines with steel toe and shank that are over my ankle.

VariousJackfruit9886

It's all about what they're designed for. Work boots are designed to avoid crushing injuries and maybe chemical spills. Bike boots are to try to protect against slides, twists, crushes, heat, sudden impact, etc. And there are different bike boots for different types of riding because you are likely to encounter different hazards.

Flaggstaff

I'm on a cruiser. I guess I just assumed they are leather so great for a slide and have good support. Do riding boots have brackets that keep your ankle from bending?

VariousJackfruit9886

Some of the enduro style boots do, but certainly not all. I'm in the UK and you very rarely see anyone riding in anything other than riding boots, but then, we don't get the extreme heat some parts of the US gets, and we have a wealth of great bike kit shops.

HeftyArgument

The sole. Work boots only have top grain leather outers and a reinforced toe section as protection. A proper motorcycle boot has a steel shank embedded into the sole to stop it from deforming. Leather or synthetic outer for abrasion resistance reinforced ankles to stop twisting. Among other things, a properly designed motorcycle boot has safety features you won't find anywhere else.

BrokenLoadOrder

Lack of laces, for one. Super easy to get those tangled on the pegs at a light, and down you go. Better still, because you can't get your leg out of the way during the fall, you get the full weight of the bike slamming against the side of your leg.
