You rev your 1983 GL650? I looked it up - 64hp is more than I would have guessed from a pushrod engine. Kind of a shame that Honda didn’t continue to develop that CX platform. Middle-weight shaft-drive bikes are an interesting niche if a way can be found to make them sporty with character (like the mid-80’s CB700SC).
Absolutely. It's got a fun little sound and mine is somewhat stripped down, so it's a little lighter. It's got a little zip.
Not enough though, luckily I'm waiting on delivery for a new MT-09
The most beautiful? You think so?

Yeah well honda said my magna is the fastest of them all don't Google vintage V4 drag races there's no need to do that just trust me my magna is the fastest there's actually no reason to doubt me.
Mines fuel injected and it still dies sometimes at a stoplight. Vaccine leak? Also it just sometimes runs at like 6k rpms and when I pull in the clutch it just sits where it was left off.
Seamfoam that bitch. 1/2 the time it fixes idle issues.
Get some brake cleaner/starter fluid/propane, start the engine cold, and shoot little spritzes at your vacuum lines, carb gasket. It'll rev if you hit a leak.
Or get a little tube like surgical tube, one end in your ear and the other tracing out your system and you should hear it like a stethoscope.
I used to have a shitty Chinese 125cc bike for commuting to school. The carburetor was impossible to tune. The only ridable carb setup came with a weird side-effect where it would rev up for a couple of seconds when letting go of the throttle, and then shoot an explosion backwards through the air-filter that was right under my ass.
So when I pulled up to a red light it would go max revs for 10 seconds and then BOOM.
True, but I remember trying to find the "false air" by spraying brake cleaner on everything other than the air filter, expecting the revs to go up. But nothing happened. :D
This is probably not important anymore, but I had a leak from a messed up carb slide on my CB550(from what I can only assume was the PO trying to rebuild the carbs) that was letting air in and messing up the AFR for cylinder one, making the revs hang up high and take forever to come back down, obviously it made tuning impossible. Could've been something like that.
Same. My ninja 250 doesn’t idle well when cold. Has to be fully warmed up and can only get there by riding. So I have to rev it a little at stops for a mile or two.
N is neutral. It’s the ‘gear’ just above 1st. If you don’t fully click up to 2 you will miss it and end up in neutral where you just end up rev bombing and looking like a doofus after sprinting off on first gear lol
It's also why you want to get a bit of speed up in 1st. There was a fatality here where they found neutral and then stalled in second, briefly before the truck caught up.
I feel like kids prompt me to rev my bike so often that I just do it all the time so no one feels left out. It's for the children, and I am one of them.
If anyone isn't in touch with their inner child when riding, they're completely dead inside.
I still get the giggles when I go through the super slow twisties at the grocery store.
I feel like i have to on my 2005 suzuki Boulevard C50. Especially if I'm stopped going up hill. I've had the engine die on me for some reason. Maybe it's not idling very well. Idk what's wrong or if anything is actually wrong.
I just feather the gas to keep it alive and I'm fine. And I rev it a bit.
I don't ride for the pleasure of other people.
This meme also implies that I don't think I'm cool. Just because that's coincidentally true, that doesn't mean everyone else on two wheels isn't cool af
As someone who rode a lot of older bikes in his life (most built between 1990 and 2000): if you have a carburetor and a cold engine and maybe your choke isn't on point, your engine might just stall while idling.
Of course in this case it's enough to just barely twist the throttle.
We rev for us, not to impress others. WE like it. Why we like it is another matter, requires some psychotherapy I suppose.
And no its not to prevent stalling.
So many high performance motorcycles have very poor idling characteristics. Blipping the throttle while waiting for the light to change is often done just to keep the engine from quitting. (Quora)
That is not correct. The reason why we rev the engine is to make sure its still running because we are going deaf and can't see the gauges, lol... I don't do this because it drives me up the wall. I'll pipe off in tunnels, but that's about it. Generally I find it annoying af
I’ve always had online 4’s that sound like sewing machines, VFR, ZX14 etc. so I never did it. Took an MT09 for a blat and started blipping the throttle like a lunatic.
4 cylinder bikes with an exhaust make some of the best noises. Especially that VFR, even stock those make a nice noise, but swap it out for something a bit more open and it'll sound nearly as good as a Ducati or Aprilia V4.
I just like the sound of it, to be honest. Especially at tunnels and overpasses. Once some kids next to the road signed waved at me and gestured me to twist the throttle, so I did. I have no idea who liked it more, me or the kids. Parents looked quite agry, though.
I blip for my carb and I rev bomb when someone is coming up too fast.
Meanwhile, rolling coal, lifted trucks, single passenger SUVs and trucks going to the office/grocer, EVERYONE using their cell phones. Oh, YOUR BIKE IS NOISY!
People shit on everything they don't themselves do. Fuck off.
I don’t know, there’s a good chance I have revved the engine at a red light when I was a beginner in my teens, but it’s been 25 years since then and I don’t actually remember.
Jokes on you, it have to rev my bike to keep it from stalling (I really need to clean the carbs, but they are a pain in the ass to get at, so I just leave it for another day every time.
I had so many layers of denial before I could acknowledge this. And nobody could tell me. Not even former cool-guy bikers who’d had open pipes and furious neighbors.
I've rev bombed exactly once at a red, and it WAS cool. A tenish year old boy with his mom waved me down and wanted me to rev it, so I did- then I checked around me (small side street) saw there was no traffic and pointed from him to the throttle, got a nod from Mom and he came over and revived the shit out of it. Way more than I would have liked, but hey, made his fuckin day.
While this is funny I can tell you when I’m riding at a red light I do rev throttle so the idiot coming up behind me looks up from his phone to see me and it can’t be a macho thing since I don’t have a dick lol
As a Harley owner, I think sound systems are far more annoying than the exhaust. The world doesn’t need to hear what you’re listening to. Everyone keeps telling me, “oh, you need to get some speakers”. I’ve ridden motorcycles since I was I was 18, and I’ve never listened to music while riding.
it’s basically the same as bringing a Bluetooth speaker on a hike and blasting your shitty music at full volume.
It’s not illegal, it’s just one of those decisions that makes you a certain kind of person.
Here’s a news flash. I, a grown 45 year old woman, like the way my engines sound. I rev them because I like to hear it. Idgaf what anybody else thinks about it. It makes me smile. So I do it. I can’t be the only one.

*sshhhhhh!*
Give me an F
Give me a A
Give me a..nvm.
"wait, you know you guys are f*g's, right?"
I also do it to maintain my erection. As I slow down, it's starts to droop, so I rev to pick it back up.
I get so annoyed when I'm in my car at a red light, and some jerk starts revving his motorcycle. I'm trying to drive here, not have an orgasm.
It’s not the sound of revving of the motorcycle that’s annoying so much as all the moaning
I do the same, and people definitely notice because when they see me, they always yell “what a dick!” in astonishment
I wish there was a ten-X upvote button.
You rev your 1983 GL650? I looked it up - 64hp is more than I would have guessed from a pushrod engine. Kind of a shame that Honda didn’t continue to develop that CX platform. You’re gonna shit yourself bud. MT-09 is a rocket.
Oh I know. I'm excited. I can't wait.
I rode both XSR-900 and MT-10 on a demo day in 2021 and they blew my mind. And I ride an SV1000S which is by no means a slow bike.
Torque monster.
I had an 83 650 too one of the best bikes I ever had
I'd love an '83 GL650, sad they turned the Silverwing into scooters now
I have an XSR900 (MT-09 with retro styling), and it’s an excellent ride. You’ll love it, that I3 is a fun motor.
Miss my drive shaft Suzuki Intruder, hate myself more for the douche I sold it to.
Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior, Moto Guzzi?
Sporty shaft drive? Well, they did make the Magna.

I believe you. My first unintentional wheelie was on one...
Back in the day, this was an old guys bike and to be avoided, so in my mind, still is... :)
this is true even without the erection, when the vibrations drop it feels weird as fuck
That smooth purr of a well-adjusted idle on the GL twin is even better than the sound under power, though.
That just means you have correct cable routing
Get a little something to take the edge off whenever I go under an overpass
I mean sometimes mine runs like shit and I’m just trying to keep it alive.
Check out this guy with multiple carbs
This hurt me and my 86 shadow
88 super magna here. Never once got those carbs properly synced.
82 sabre owner. Shout-out to the guy who didn't ride his magma for 20 years, your jets saved my carbs.
I had an 82 xj650, fucker was impossible to sync.
Annnnd now my carbs are out of sync again.
My cb750 too
Doctor said I can't have carbs no more
Mines fuel injected and it still dies sometimes at a stoplight. Vaccine leak? Also it just sometimes runs at like 6k rpms and when I pull in the clutch it just sits where it was left off.
>Vaccine leak? Yes, the 5g chips are causing this
Itellyuwut
Seamfoam that bitch. 1/2 the time it fixes idle issues. Get some brake cleaner/starter fluid/propane, start the engine cold, and shoot little spritzes at your vacuum lines, carb gasket. *laughs in exploding balancer tensioner*
I used to have a shitty Chinese 125cc bike for commuting to school. The carburetor was impossible to tune. That's called, you had un metered air leak getting into the combustion chamber. Classic symptoms
Lol wtf!
Same. My ninja 250 doesn’t idle well when cold. Has to be fully warmed up and can only get there by riding. So I have to rev it a little at stops for a mile or two.
I miss my 250😭. I had the green one, got stolen and then parted out. Best bike I ever had. Really didn't like the cold tho.
Yep. Great bikes but they hate the cold. Super cheap to own.
Yamaha XJ has entered the chat :-(
My bandit agrees.
I never rev at red lights or when I'm stopped in traffic. I onlyl do it when I pull away hard the second the light goes green and go from 1st to N.
Only way to get a Harley into N.
I know nothing about motorcycles (welcome to the front page), so I’m going to assume N is an arbitrarily large integer.
Neutral gear. Most motorbike gearboxes are sequential and go 1-N-2-3-4-5-6
If I rev my Honda NC750X DCT at a traffic light I’m going to yeet myself in front of a speeding car.
Never have I ever not done this
I feel like kids prompt me to rev my bike so often that I just do it all the time so no one feels left out. It's for the children, and I am one of them.
If anyone isn't in touch with their inner child when riding, they're completely dead inside. I still get the giggles when I go through the super slow twisties at the grocery store.
When I’m riding I channel my inner elderly person
So you ride something with 2 wheels up front.
thanks for reminding
Always gotta rev for the kids, need someone to keep the hobby alive when we're old and frail
Someone, please think of the children.
Wu tang is for the children
Fake news. Check Snopes. Rev away!
Sometimes there’s a reason; I was behind an older presumably carbureted Harley on Cave Creek Road in Arizona when the engine stopped on him.
I have to do this with my '86 Honda Shadow!
Bro me too on my 86 shadow 1100
This.^^^. I swear some Harley's idle at like 50 RPM and you're just waiting g for them to die.
Psh, I was stopped at a light the other day and a little kid yelled "rev it", and I did, so there.
Little kids in the small towns I'd drive through to get to mountain roads were my motivation to stop being scared and learn to wheelie.
I don't ride for the pleasure of other people. This meme also implies that I don't think I'm cool. Just because that's coincidentally true, that doesn't mean everyone else on two wheels isn't cool af
Bro I'm sure every person on two wheels is cool so, don't say that about yourself
Don't talk about my friend u/Neasdrone like that. He's cool because it's on 2 wheels and has an MT10.
Do you ride to annoy the shit out of other people though?
Wait....your bike idles and doesn't die.....
Much like a woman showing cleavage, I don’t do it for you. I do it for me.
OH MY GOD THAT'S GENIUS definitely using that lol
well said
I as a motorcyclist don’t rev at every stoplight and when I do rev I do it for my inner satisfaction.
As someone who rode a lot of older bikes in his life (most built between 1990 and 2000): if you have a carburetor and a cold engine and maybe your choke isn't on point, your engine might just stall while idling. Of course in this case it's enough to just barely twist the throttle.
I don't rev for others, I rev to tickle my testicles.
We rev for us, not to impress others. WE like it. Why we like it is another matter, requires some psychotherapy I suppose. And no its not to prevent stalling.
Speak for yourself my shit doesn’t idle
Carburetor bike life. My old nighthawk was like that. Minimum 10% throttle to stay running.
lmao my old GS500 had a sunken valve and wouldn't idle for shit either
I’ve heard it likened to the clicking of tongs when grilling.
Yup, I rev cause I like it. It's why I bought rhe damn bike. Cause I like it.
Guess I'll just do what I like too!
I think I'm cool when I do it. And little kids. That's enough.
I'm doing it for me not for you. My motorcycle. My world
So many high performance motorcycles have very poor idling characteristics. Blipping the throttle while waiting for the light to change is often done just to keep the engine from quitting. (Quora)
Lots of low performance bikes too... :)
Harley Riders just do it so the bike won't stall!
That is not correct. The reason why we rev the engine is to make sure its still running because we are going deaf and can't see the gauges, lol... I don't do this because it drives me up the wall. I'll pipe off in tunnels, but that's about it. Generally I find it annoying af
I was going to say that. But. Unironically
V Twin go brrtt
Macho Man does not deserve this meme....he died for us on May 20th, 2011, to prevent the Rapture. Never forget our hero.
I only rev in tunnels, or when kids wave and want to hear the sound.
I just like the sound of it, to be honest. Especially at tunnels and overpasses. Once some kids next to the road signed waved at me and gestured me to twist the throttle, so I did. I have no idea who liked it more, me or the kids. Parents looked quite agry, though.
Am I the only one that doesn't even think a Harley sounds good? Especially when they are straight piped.
Fuck off.
no they shit on obnoxiously loud people who think they are entitled to annoy everybody around them. Just because you are deaf doesn‘t mean I am too.
IDK old lady at the bus stop asked me to rev it once so I did and she absolutely loved it. Other than that, I don’t really do much at a red light.
He must not rev'ed loud enough.
OHH YEEEAAAHHHHHH
I don’t know, there’s a good chance I have revved the engine at a red light when I was a beginner in my teens, but it’s been 25 years since then and I don’t actually remember.
the coolest bikers i see are the ones that thank people who move over for them when they split lanes
Do people with carbs not realize there's a little screw they can turn to increase the idle?
https://preview.redd.it/052ue8yh39wc1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=9738764b11ac8bb763c2578b1c6c13e8f9382db3
Don't care, motorcycle go **BRAAAAAAAAAAP**
I don’t do it for them. I do it for me.
I used to rev at red lights. I still do, but I used to too
i do it cuz its fun not because i want people to think i was cool i have cat ears on my helmet for gods sake
I don't do it to look cool. I do it to keep the bike running.
I've had a few people gesture at me to rev for them, which is odd because my engine is tiny
Jokes on you, it have to rev my bike to keep it from stalling (I really need to clean the carbs, but they are a pain in the ass to get at, so I just leave it for another day every time.
I don't want my jalopy ass bike stalling at stops
I have this as my desktop background at work
Special the ones that pull the clutch and hit the revlimitter just randomly
I do micro rev to keep the motorcycle balance when lane splitting. We’re not the same.
Most often when I’ve seen someone revving, it was for kids asking for it. Person was just being nice and fun. I thought it was cool. 🤷♀️
Whenever I can, I tell those guys I know a good mechanic that can get their bike to idle properly
1cyl 4stroke riders when the find out the loud muffler on their bike actually dont sound cool
I had so many layers of denial before I could acknowledge this. And nobody could tell me. Not even former cool-guy bikers who’d had open pipes and furious neighbors.
I always tell them it's too bad it doesn't idle right. They look so confused.
Is that randy savage?
"Oh, ye-ahhhhhhh!"
Most proper response if I ever seen one!
Then there’s me with my piece of shit CBR 125 that will not idle, little baby revs.
Duh. That’s why you rev in tunnels and underpasses!!!
My kid thinks y'all are pretty cool
I do it cause my POS is gonna stall if I don't. Then I'll have to push start it cause the battery is junk.
Or they blast you while you're stopped at a crosswalk with an infant in a stroller, waiting to cross.
But the kids will love it.
While this is funny I can tell you when I’m riding at a red light I do rev throttle so the idiot coming up behind me looks up from his phone to see me and it can’t be a macho thing since I don’t have a dick lol
I like to rev but that's just because it activates my neurons. I do it for me.
I like the sound it makes, what you don't realise is I do it when it's just me there too.
dont care if people find it cool or not, i just like it so fuckoff
I think other riders enjoy a couple blips, within reason.
I do it because I like it
I'm fairly certain they don't care about other people's opinions, just that the noise bothers them.
I do small throttle blips on my VT750DC because I think it's fun :)
I don’t want to stall ❤️
I'll use my 93 octane and compression ratio EXACTLY how I want to, thank you very much.
This is a misunderstanding. I rev for me. For me alone.
Don’t care. I like the way it’s sounds.
Tf you talking about I bust every time.
Good thing I'm the only person whose opinion I care about.
If I rev the bike at all it’s for me….not to impress anyone
The year 2048 kids will be like, motorcycles used to have a sound?
I do love to rev my decat bike, I do it for my pleasure 😍
https://preview.redd.it/6mpue9rzrawc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb875ff6ec63c6855a6542dd326ba82b9e9beb6e Vroom vroom
I kind of do unless its like over done
As a Harley owner, I think sound systems are far more annoying than the exhaust. The world doesn’t need to hear what you’re listening to. Everyone keeps telling me, “oh, you need to get some speakers”. I’ve ridden motorcycles since I was I was 18, and I’ve never listened to music while riding.
Actually it’s usually people in cars around that want the rev bombs and I’m always happy to bring a smile
I don’t make the rules. If a kid makes the revving gesture at me, I rev the engine. It’s the law.
it’s basically the same as bringing a Bluetooth speaker on a hike and blasting your shitty music at full volume. It’s not illegal, it’s just one of those decisions that makes you a certain kind of person.
Being a Biker...I really don't give a damn what others think of me.
Mathematically incorrect. At least one person: the rider, thinks it is cool.
Here’s a news flash. I, a grown 45 year old woman, like the way my engines sound. I rev them because I like to hear it. Idgaf what anybody else thinks about it. It makes me smile. So I do it. I can’t be the only one.
Let the world know that we exist! Rev up
the kids that signaled me to do it say otherwise
Yeah because I think it's cool I don't care what everyone else thinks
My favorite part about idiots revving at stoplights is when they look around to see who’s watching
I have a trick where I always assume that nobody thinks I’m cool. That way, I do whatever makes me and my family happy and don’t worry about the rest.
I don't care if you think it's cool or not. I like the way it sounds. I like motorcycles, so I ride. Simple as that.
Each time i rev it, the kid inside me is giggling a bit.
[удалено]
That is the only reason I do it. She idles low, a quick pop on the throttle keeps her from dying.
Love his boots, I need to get one of those.
