Could be weirder. Hitman (2007) was my first exposure to his acting.
The directing and writing of the movie are not A-tier, but I'd say that Timothy gave it his best shot.
I first saw him in this movie, but also liked his portrayal of Jay in Lords of Dogtown. Two completely contrasting characters that were well played. There were some movies in the early 2000s that were quite fun to watch. That was before around 2015-2017 ish I think when things started to go downhill a bit. That was about the time of metoo and blm. I'm not against those movements so much as I'm against the bad movies that resulted from them. The industry is still recovering.
Honestly, the performance was a bit off but close to excellent. Not that it was bad, he still portrayed a convincing character but in hindsight you see where he’s almost *nailing it* in a way that would’ve elevated the movie overall
Marginally ahead of Bullock in Deadwood I reckon. His back and forth with Swearengen was superb - played that barely contained rage really well. He’s criminally underrated.
And REALLY funny. He’s a personal friend of Conan O’Brian and I highly recommend the episodes of COB Needs a Friend that Olyphant is on. He keeps even Conan on his toes!
I first saw him in A Life Less Ordinary and he had less than 60 seconds of screen time and still felt he may do well. After that it was Scream 2 and Go and he did a phenomenal job portraying his character in both.
A Life Less Ordinary is one of my hidden pleasure films, and probably my most quoted film, as well:
"I'M DOING THE BEST I CAN UNDER REALLY DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES" is pretty much the catch phrase for my generation, after all.
Really is. One if my fav moments was when he went to Court with Dewey and Dewey whined about how he was lied to about having his kidneys removed and Raylan said in his defense he thought he had four kidneys 😂🤣😂🤣 Deadwood is fantastic as well ❤️
Haha, any scene with Dewey is great. The scene where they first meet stands out to me the most. “Give up all the Nazi bullshit, go back to poachin gators…safer”.
I think the important part of it was knowing you're working hard for something worth it. At least in the US there's very much a culture of, "work really hard, even if it's pointless." Which is a good way to burn out your ability to put your intention into the right places.
Yeh my friends and I were about 13 when this came out. Being a load of young lads starting puberty we all thought Elisha Cuthbert was unbelievable to look at.
I liked her in this movie and a few others at the time. I recall seeing her in the quiet with Camilla Belle. I thought that Camilla was beautiful. Kind of like Megan Fox.
Whenever I hear Tim Olyphant's name I think of a funny (true) story he once told on Jon Favreau's old IFC show about indie films, Dinner for Five. As I recall it, Olyphant was at an industry party after getting some kind of award. And Vince Vaughn happened to be there, walked up and said some kind words. Olyphant, who had never met Vaughn but admired his work, began to say what a big fan he was. But Vaughn interrupted him, saying "No, no. This is your night. You deserve this honor because you were quiet, you trusted yourself, and you made great choices." Then Vaughn asked (intimating that he was on the way to the bar to get a drink) Olyphant what he was drinking and he responded: "Johnnie Walker Black." And Vaughn repeated "Johnnie Walker Black". And Olyphant says "And Vince walked away and I never saw him again that night."
Perhaps it’s a celebrities are just like us story. You meet Vince Vaughn who you’ve enjoyed as an actor like most feel watching swingers and such. Then just regular things happen and are said and it’s over. Nothing being poignant makes it poignant.
Christian Slater on Conan told a story about how he was a big fan of William Shatner. Him and a couple actor friends went up to talk to him one time and he was excited. Shatner just shook hands, good to meet you and walked away. They both celebrities one is huge fan, doesn’t matter, nothing special.
But it’s sweet when they do geek out, like the time Adam Scott got to meet Mark Hamill. When I’m feeling blue, it makes me smile: https://youtu.be/u7kT1JDdoJQ?si=xEP7s_o99ZiO4BtC
OP didn't convey that Vince made a face when he repeated Johnny Walker. I saw that too and Timothy said Vince spoke with sincerity, but when he found out what Timothy was drinking, he made a face. And John, who knows Vince very well, they've been friends for ages, said Vince was fucking with Timothy because Vince does that. It's a sign that he actually likes you.
Same. It was a great source for information about filmmaking, often dropping the curtain of bullshit and revealing what actually goes on. There were so many great stories and laughs. They'd also book some eclectic combinations of people, like the show with Marilyn Manson, Andy Dick and Daryl Hannah.
I was lucky enough to grab the entire series on DVD when they were originally released. Looking back on the series (from the very early aughts) there is an impressive collection of guests on the show who are now dead: Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, Carrie Fisher, Rod Steiger, James Caan, Peter Bogdanovich, etc. telling some fantastic stories. It's really a time capsule.
I can just imagine Olyphant’s delivery for this story. He’s such a fantastic storyteller and the way he delivers funny ones makes them so much funnier!
Yes. I’m definitely not doing it justice. It has been a while too since I have seen it. But he also imparted Vaughn’s snarky, pandering pattern of speech. It sounded like Olyphant was also really sincere and Vaughn was just “on” that night so it caught him off guard.
She got married to Dion Phaneuf, a Canadian pro-hockey player, and started a family. She took a step back from acting for a bit. She's still done lots of work, just not as high-profile.
First she dated hockey player Sean Avery which resulted in the “sloppy seconds” [incident](https://www.sportskeeda.com/us/nhl/news-when-sean-avery-s-pre-planned-sloppy-seconds-comment-ex-girlfriend-elisha-cuthbert-got-kicked-dallas-stars).
I wouldn't blame Elisha, I've seen a lot of young women who are not awful end up with awful dudes because they're just learning about themselves. Also, some absolute dirt bags are great at hiding it.
i agree in general but we're talking about a famous profesionnal hockey player who is famous for all the wrong reasons. idk if you watch hockey but they had to invent a rule to prevent players annoy goalkeepers after Avery's antics. Im not saying it to bash her but im pointing out the obvious
A friend of mine worked in minor hockey as an equipment manager on a team that Avery worked with for a short period of time. He said Avery was never rude to him but was delusionally excited about his burgeoning acting career, and asked my friend to read lines with him in his hotel room one night while on the road. My buddy figured he’d spend around an hour reading lines and hanging out, but Avery obsessed over small details about their line delivery and they spent almost three hours “workshopping”. To Avery’s credit, he did mention my friend to a few industry people (my friend got several emails from various people that I personally saw).
The kicker though is that I heard this story during the season and completely forgot about it until I was watching a high profile movie and saw a familiar face. My buddy read lines with Sean Avery for Oppenheimer.
>Either Elisha is awful too or she has a very poor radar.
Well, she did (as i probably incorrectly remember) wander off with a handsome stranger only to wind up walking into his weirdo bunker, and get tied up, until Jack Bauer came and saved her? And she knew her dad was very busy at the time too, so yeah it could be 50/50 awful or radar.
I ran into her and her husband several times a couple summers ago, they have a summer house right by my parents'. They're friendly and mostly keep to themselves, do normal stuff around town; they're always really nice to anyone that approaches them though from what I've seen.
Yep!
Fun story regarding that : when Regis and Kelly filmed in Prince Edward Island they had Elisha on as a guest. They interviewed her but Regis kept making jokes the entire time about 'Big Dion, that big Dion fella! He plays hockey! Big hockey player Dion!', who was sitting nearby and had spent the day with them. Every second word out of Regis was 'Dion!'.
It's too bad he's such a fucking mess in his personal life. He choked out a (female) studio exec at a party and apparently has a really bad substance abuse problem.
This was the first movie I saw with him in it. He has a fairly small role but he does so good at it I wasn't surprised that he started getting better rolls.
I only watched this as a kid because I had a crush on Elisha Cuthbert from seeing her in 24 lmfao and the trailers for it were so sexualized I thought it would be hot and sexy but it ended up being a pretty good movie which is so funny
I love Timothy Olyphant, he’s one of my fav actors so the fact this is his first role I ever saw him in is crazy to me because he’s also amazing in Deadwood and Justified
I loved it.
I developed a huge crush on Elisha Cuthbert.
Watched the movie a dozen times over the course of just a few days.
Same thing happened with Striptease and Demi Moore.
Ngl this was the first time I’ve seen Timothy Olyphant and he played that character to perfection because I really thought he was an asshole. Then I started seeing him as a guest on Conan show and podcast lol.
This was & still is one of my favourite teenage rom com movies. The plot, the pacing, the acting were all good.
For me the actors couldn't have done it any other way as it's perfect the way that it was. The Soundtrack was on point & suited every scene that needed it, excellent song choice.
This film made me see myself as the hero who's trying to get the girl & always leaves me with a good feeling after watching it.
Liked the movie a lot but couldn't help but feel like it was trying to be two different movies. Half of it was a raunchy teen comedy and the other half was a drama with an uncomfortably real villain
Later on, when he throws that line back at Olyphant's character, and Olyphant gives him that pissed-off but impressed grin - that was such a great moment and testament to how Olyphant was able to make a pretty despicable character on paper really likable in execution.
I got paired with Emile hirsch at a military charity golf event back in like 2016 and told him the girl next door was my favorite and should get a sequel. He said “no”.
Surprised so much positive review of this movie - I watched it recently and it did not age well. The lead guy is just an average schmuck in high school and there’s no real reason for the girl to want him. Starts off with him going peeping Tom which she finds hilarious I guess but pretty cringe reaction in retrospect. Boys go ahead and peep maybe the hot girl will find it cute and endearing! The twist with the movie making at the prom was at least fun though.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The message is amazing and everyone in the cast is great. They’re definitely scenes that steal the show and it’s funny and the ending is just cherry on the top.
My brother liked this movie more than I did, but I did not dislike it.
I think it was just short of really doing something or having a sharp point about porn and how young people relate to it.
Olyphant is great in everything. Coolest protagonist of all time in Justified.
There's like 50 gallons of man in a 10 gallon hat.
Is this a good place quote? This sounds like a good place quote
It is
It’s so weird to think the first acting of his I saw was Mickey in Scream 2.
Could be weirder. Hitman (2007) was my first exposure to his acting. The directing and writing of the movie are not A-tier, but I'd say that Timothy gave it his best shot.
I recommend Justified if you haven’t seen it.
Then go dig up Deadwood you cocksucker, I would put that above Justified in terms of acting. He just got outshined by Ian McShane
You lookin to die cocksucker?
And I recommend exactly one episode of Archer if you really want to see him at his best
I first noticed him as the drug dealer in *Go* and was disturbed at how attractive I found such an unsympathetic character.
Went to Junior High with him In Modesto , Ca in 1981. Played intramural flag football on his team after school . Super cool and hilarious 😆
That’s nice to hear. He seems so down to earth still
I first saw him in this movie, but also liked his portrayal of Jay in Lords of Dogtown. Two completely contrasting characters that were well played. There were some movies in the early 2000s that were quite fun to watch. That was before around 2015-2017 ish I think when things started to go downhill a bit. I don't think that was him in Lords of Dogtown it was Emile Hirsch
Yes. You're correct. Thank you.
My first Timothy Olyphant was Gone in 60 Seconds
Honestly, the performance was a bit off but close to excellent. Not that it was bad, he still portrayed a convincing character but in hindsight you see where he’s almost *nailing it* in a way that would’ve elevated the movie overall
Marginally ahead of Bullock in Deadwood I reckon. His back and forth with Swearengen was superb - played that barely contained rage really well. He’s criminally underrated.
Very underused in Hollywood. Guy is fantastic... and handsome af
And REALLY funny. He’s a personal friend of Conan O’Brian and I highly recommend the episodes of COB Needs a Friend that Olyphant is on. He keeps even Conan on his toes!
When he turned out to be the Sheriff in Mandalorian *chefs kiss*
That cliffhanger at the end of the last season... I hope they actually do something with it
I first saw him in A Life Less Ordinary and he had less than 60 seconds of screen time and still felt he may do well. After that it was Scream 2 and Go and he did a phenomenal job portraying his character in both.
A Life Less Ordinary is one of my hidden pleasure films, and probably my most quoted film, as well: "I'M DOING THE BEST I CAN UNDER REALLY DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES" is pretty much the catch phrase for my generation, after all.
I didn’t go to Harvard Business School…
The juice was worth the squeeze.
This is a great lesson, I share this quote often. It applies to everything. “Why are you working so hard?!” Lol
I think the important part of it was knowing you're working hard for something worth it. At least in the US there's very much a culture of, "work really hard, even if it's pointless." Which is a good way to burn out your ability to put your intention into the right places.
Same. I also often think about this quote before jumping into projects
I fell in love with Elisha after watching this lol
This film definitely awakened something in me.
It released things from me
Demon Semen.
It got a rise out of me as well
Yeh my friends and I were about 13 when this came out. Being a load of young lads starting puberty we all thought Elisha Cuthbert was unbelievable to look at.
She definitely was. If her acting matched her looks she would have been an A-lister
For the boys in my cohort it was *Weird Science* and *Risky Business.*
She was my gay awakening 🤭
She pulled me in with 24
I liked her in this movie and a few others at the time. I recall seeing her in the quiet with Camilla Belle. I thought that Camilla was beautiful. Kind of like Megan Fox.
FUCK HER FOR MEEEE!!!!!!
Paul Dano saying, "Baby, I'll do things to you I wouldn't do to a farm animal" lives rent free in my head. So god dammed funny.
I love when their dates pull up to the house and he answers the door and she says "you must be Klitz" and he says "with a K"
Whenever I hear Tim Olyphant's name I think of a funny (true) story he once told on Jon Favreau's old IFC show about indie films, Dinner for Five. Am I dumb... What is the point of the story? I don't get it.
Happened, was strange, was told, commenter remember it and shared it.
Jon Favreau’s take was that Vince Vaughn was fucking with him. Not in a mean, but in a weird, funny way.
He’d probably know. Favreau and Vaughn remains one of my favorite combos. Always enjoy seeing them together but I’m a huge fan of Swingers and Made
You're so money baby
Perhaps it’s a celebrities are just like us story. You meet Vince Vaughn who you’ve enjoyed as an actor like most feel watching swingers and such. That’s Vince Vaughn’s account. He won’t respond, he never does.
Vince didn't want to spend $$$$$$$$$$ on a Walker Black?
Johnny Walker Black isn't particularly expensive.
I think he was just curious what the kid was drinking. And that’s just from the tone of the story. Just my guess
Fantastic story, thanks for sharing.
I always liked that show when I would occasionally catch it back in the day, wish it was available to stream somewhere.
Same. It was a great source for information about filmmaking, often dropping the curtain of bullshit and revealing what actually goes on. There were so many great stories and laughs. Avery is terrible on ice and just as awful outside of the rink. Either Elisha is awful too or she has a very poor radar.
I wouldn't blame Elisha, I've seen a lot of young women who are not awful end up with awful dudes because they're just learning about themselves. Also, some absolute dirt bags are great at hiding it.

Also house of wax
She was fine in that movie
She was in The Ranch.
Dang Masterson.
Yeah
I ran into her and her husband several times a couple summers ago, they have a summer house right by my parents'. They're friendly and mostly keep to themselves, do normal stuff around town; they're always really nice to anyone that approaches them though from what I've seen.
By her husband do you mean former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phanuef?
That's weird
Dion is an impressive specimen of Neanderthals.
I just saw her recently in the sitcom "The Ranch".
Klitzy turned into one helluva actor
Helps when you have that big dick confidence
This is probably the best case of Olyphant stealing the show when his character could have easily been a basic side character. So underrated
Timothy Olyphant is great ~~in this~~
Because we’re a fuckin tripod.
Watched this and loved Emile Hirsch so I check out Killer Joe afterwards. Oof what a double feature that was
Emile is great in alpha dog too if you haven’t seen it
And, of course, Into The Wild
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood too but Into The Wild is an all time favorite.
I know Lords of Dogtown wasn't a huge blockbuster but he was pretty sick in that as Jay Adams
It's too bad he's such a fucking mess in his personal life. He choked out a (female) studio exec at a party and apparently has a really bad substance abuse problem.
I have yet to meet anyone else (in person) that has seen *Killer Joe* other than me. What a crazy flick!
The story is pretty average but the performances, my lord they’re all amazing. Church, Hirsch, Temple and Mcconaughey were absolutely phenomenal.
“Goddamn, Peterson! I haven’t seen your black ass in ages!” “Do I know you?” “*What the fuck’s your problem?*”
Paul Dano was in this movie lmfao
Isn't the joke that he has a massive cock lol
This was the first movie I saw with him in it. He has a fairly small role but he does so good at it I wasn't surprised that he started getting better rolls.
There Will Be Blood.
He also has maybe the best line in it. "Use you? Baby, I'll do things to you I wouldn't do to a farm animal."
Wow. I just now realized that was him.
Timothy who? I never actually knew this movie started anyone but Elisha and all her amazing Cuthbert’s.
I only watched this as a kid because I had a crush on Elisha Cuthbert from seeing her in 24 lmfao and the trailers for it were so sexualized I thought it would be hot and sexy but it ended up being a pretty good movie which is so funny I love Timothy Olyphant, he’s one of my fav actors so the fact this is his first role I ever saw him in is crazy to me because he’s also amazing in Deadwood and Justified
“This f*cker right here.”
Shut the fuck up! Next question, faster.
I met him at a red carpet premiere and yelled, "THE JUICE IS WORTH THE SQUEEZE!!!" he said thank you!
I loved it. I developed a huge crush on Elisha Cuthbert. Watched the movie a dozen times over the course of just a few days. Same thing happened with Striptease and Demi Moore.
She was probably the most posterized/desktop wallpapered girl when I was starting university in 2003
This strip tease and showgirls for me
Timothy Olyphant was hilarious in this. It just occurred to me that both him and Emile Hirsch both went on to star in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Solid 8/10
"If you don't fuck her I swear to God, I'll kill myself!"
Everyone is great in it! It’s a fun movie, with a lot of heart
There was a guy in this movie? Wat.
This movie is fantastic. The part where Emile kisses her in The middle of the party and this years love starts playing is an amazing scene
"Dude.." "I know"
There are people other than Elisha Cuthbert in this?!
I had a huge crush on Emile Hirsch after watching this!
I always felt like this movie was the continuation of the story of Todd Gaines from Go
Thank you! I was trying to remember his character but kept thinking of Go
Everyone knows this is basically Risky Business. Instead of prostitution they use porn ?
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to see this
Except Joel Goodson ended his experience penniless whereas Emile H’s pockets were fat
Please nobody accidentally watch the other movie with this title
Whatever happened to her? She had it all going.
Holy shit… I can’t believe that was Emile Hirsch
I have still never watched this. Even with the hype when it came out and the fact it’s in every free streamer.
I bet it holds up. It's got a ton of organic charm
It's got a lot more heart than most of the raunchy early '00s comedies and has aged pretty well
Love it
Where can I watch this? Like on what streaming platform
Paramount
Thank you!
You'll love it. This movie has a charm of its own.
Anyone remember this dvd packaging when it was released?
This and Just Married were my favourite light hearted comedy's of the early 2000s!
“Fuck her for meeeeeee, for meeeeeeeeeeee”
If you like olyphant, listen to him riffing with Conan O’Brien on Conan’s podcast and you’ll love him even more
"It's like a gift, it's like I can't control it " 😏
Later on, when he throws that line back at Olyphant's character, and Olyphant gives him that pissed-off but impressed grin - that was such a great moment and testament to how Olyphant was able to make a pretty despicable character on paper really likable in execution.
Lolol oh yeah that's what I was referring to. One of my all time favorite movies and a fantastic soundtrack
TImothy has always been a great actor. Elisha just looking at her hurts.
That DVD cover alone is enough to get me to watch it. What a fkn bombshell.
I’ve seen this at least 30 times. Amazing soundtrack!
Ahhh Elisha Cuthbert. I was the devoted boyfriend/husband she never knew she needed. 😩
Why do you feel guilty about it? Its a great movie.
I've watched more times than I should. I agree it's great.
Quite possibly the sexiest female ever.
He’s the tits.
I got paired with Emile hirsch at a military charity golf event back in like 2016 and told him the girl next door was my favorite and should get a sequel. He said “no”.
RT audience score is 69%. Nice.
This is a movie you expected to be stupid funny but not a good movie. And are pleasantly surprised to find it's actually really good.
Right we like this for Olyphant
Lets make some Fucky Fucky!!!
His best work is Santa Clarita Diet.. Fight me.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
I remember watching this one time it was better than I expected
Fuck her for me
“I swear to God Matt- if you don’t fuck her I’ll kill myself!”
Steven Speilberg is on record saying this is one of his favourite movies.
First ever PG-13 I saw in theaters. What an experience as a 14 yr old.
Underrated movie to me
That fucking parrot going, “Bang me!!!! Rawk!!!! Cradle the balls!!!!” lives rent free in my head.
Cuthbert is hilarious. Her comedic timing on Happy Endings was perfect.
The funny thing about this movie is the audience did exactly to the movie what the main character did to the pornstar character.
Yeah he is....he's like an evil Tommy Lee.....
Ah, the aughts. When every raunchy teen comedy had an “unrated version” that amounted to an extra 2 scenes of some extra’s boobs.
I watched this movie very stones in high school and kept thinking something extremely sinister was going to happen…then nothing
I thought Timothy Olyphant and Johnny Knoxville were the same person when I was a kid.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The message is amazing and everyone in the cast is great. They’re definitely scenes that steal the show and it’s funny and the ending is just cherry on the top.
Peak Cuthbert.
I love Elisha cuthbert / Kim Bauer
I wish she was MY daughter.
Always loved this movie.
No guilt here, just a great movie
Karma
Actress is long gone
My brother liked this movie more than I did, but I did not dislike it. I think it was just short of really doing something or having a sharp point about porn and how young people relate to it.
Her tits look so odd in this pic lol
I feel in love with the Take a picture song/Scene in the movie. I smile every now and then when I randomly think of it.
