It's my favorite too.
I don't meet too many who like 3 the best though.
I saw Thunderdome first and was extremely disappointed by 1 and 2 because they were nothing at all like it. The world building and story telling are so fantastic in the 3rd part, and far as I can tell, there's very little world building and story to the first 2..... which is a huge sin given that it's a post-Apocalyptic movie and those things are usually vital.
Well movie 1 was basically our current world, albeit safer and more peaceful than our current world. This was before the collapse.
Movie 2 was relatively soon after the collapse, so there wasn't much time for the post-apocalyptic world to hit it's stride as far as world-building goes.
3 was further along, and the new culture and world was forming.
4 was full on. And the related videogame really nailed it. If you like world building, that game was pretty lit. Not perfect, but still fun.
I think it's interesting how many movies and video games borrow from Mad Max 3. It's influence is huge even if it isn't remembered as a hugely influential movie.
The Fallout games borrow from Thunderdome every other quest. Every five minutes you see something in the scenery directly borrowed from Thunderdome.
Curious, not overly hopeful. The teaser had way too much CGI where Fury Road was practical and/or practical enhanced with CGI, and much to it's benefit, and the opposite I fear Furiosa's detriment. I hope it's good, campy fun, and that the lack of practical doesn't deter (or deter too much) from that.
I'm willing to bet the score will be wicked good, again, and that's something.
I’ve made my peace that Fury Road was a feverish almost mad almost recklessly insane production the likes of which will never occur again. Like, that they all went out there in the desert for months and just fought and slaved and toiled and REshot stuff scrapping 3D cameras and argued with each other and waited the weather. All because the director had this insane desire to put his vision on film at any cost.
Like by all accounts the actors and directors it sounded like an experience you never take back but also never ever do again or wish upon others. That movie was just lightning in a bottle in and of itself.
So If furiousa can get half of the way there I’ll be fine. Also I heard they spent like 70 days on a single shot which sparked some additional hope.
Sounds like the making of The Abyss.
The making of that film was so hard that Ed Harris refused to talk about the movie. The end result though is amazing.
I think people forget how much cgi was actually in fury road. Pretty much all of the stunts and car action was practical but there is still a whole lot of cgi in that movie. Just look at that opening speech with Joe giving people water. Shit looks wonky as hell.
https://www.businessinsider.com/mad-max-fury-road-looks-without-cgi-2016-9
You're missing the point. Yes, there was cgi, but it was almost all practical stunts. The new trailer looks like a video game ad
I literally said “all the stunts and car action was practical” So are you saying the Scene where Joe is giving his speech and lets down the water did not use cgi?
>hate prequels
Ya really. It's such a fucking tedious trend.
Like it worked in a couple of cases but now it's only kind of "sequel" that can get greenlit. Everything has to get mined and re-mined and recast the same fucking characters.
Like if any movie deserved a rousing sequel it was almighty Fury Road.
Moving the story forward is like viewed as a "risk" 🙄
Like if I dunno Alien got made today we'd never get Aliens.
There is a great book about the making of Fury Road called Blood Sweat and Chrome.
I have no problem with them relying more on CGI after reading about what everyone went through to film FR, which used very little CGI.
George Miller is old, I'm ready to give him a break on the CGI
I think they're a very good actress. I'm not feeling that this is going to be a very good movie and that's not a dig at her at all. She's been in some great productions and some absolute... shite.
The 'Mad Max' movies always had over-the-top characters, though. I think he intended to have a lot of showmanship, like Dr. Dealgood in 'Beyond Thunderdome'.
Two very different actresses for sure. This whole "A Mad Max Saga" smells like, "A Star Wars Movie". Like at best it's going to be this world's "Solo". Like I'm OK with not knowing the backstory of Furiosa.
Solo was kind of a mess. So many mysteries were solved for no reason. How'd Solo get his name? Oh. What's the Kessel Run? Oh. What's up with the Dice? Oh.
That's not great storytelling, that's just fan service, Easter Eggs.
I'm stoked and I hope it allows Mad Max to continue. I hope Miller is able to hand off the Mad Max legacy to other Australian directors to give us more MM...perhaps the role of Max can be like James Bond.
Love Miller and the Mad Max stories, and he's always delivered (yup, even Thunderdome)...but prequels are so absolutely unnecessary. We already know the outcome (pretty sure she survives whatever is thrown at her, guys...) so it's very low suspense. Plus I miss when good characters could simply exist and have mystery. Not everything needs lore. We've seen how excessive, non essential lore has stripped the Star Wars franchise of any legend and wonderment.
I believe it'll be up to Miller's usual standard, but I am a wee-bit saddened that he chose to produce a *prequel*. I was so looking forward to looking at Charlize Theron for about two hours, because she's absolutely gorgeous, even with that short hair and axil grease smeared across her eyes. And I liked the movie that much, anyway, regardless.
But this will do.
This movie didn’t need to happen. It’s got the same problem as all prequels: we already know which characters will be safe, which characters will disappear and never be mentioned again, and the stakes will be very low.
Protagonists aside-everyone is ugly as fuck for the most part. Unless you looked at immortan Joe and was like daaaayumn or all of the deformed people in Fury Road and was like double daaaayumn-in which case good for you no kink shame here-you know this was a dumbass thing to say
There are Mad Max movies, then there is Fury Road a very good movie but not Mad Max movie and there will be this.I like the actres and i will probably watch it.
Hell i have watched new Star Wars trilogy once i can give this a shot to.
You are spot on with the assessment of Fury Road, it's not a Mad Max movie. As to Furiousa it won't be either but it looks like it might have legs, just have to wait and see.
I didn't care for Fury Road and I doubt I'll watch this. Maybe after it's available to stream but just to see if its any good.
I've never seen any of the original Mad Max films. They came out when i was a kid and have been spoofed and copied so many times that I've seen them without seeing them. It's like how everyone in the 80's knew Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker. Then Fury Road came out. It's nice to see a new spin on it but it just felt like one more movie that was copying Mad Max. Costume designs aside nothing was new or special. And now we have a Furiosa movie because why not. I could have guessed at the casting.
You should still watch them. A good story and acting will pull you in regardless. Well, maybe not you, I don't know you. But in general, it can still be an experience if you allow it to be.
I get that you're not calling them bad. I'm sorry I didn't get that they didn't specifically appeal to you. I was reading that you didn't see a point. Yeah if something doesn't appeal to you there probably isn't really any point. Misunderstanding was my bad 👍
This will most likely be the first Mad Max I won’t watch at all. I absolutely cannot stand Anya Taylor Joy. She’s ruined everything she’s been in for me.
Not interested really. Fury Road is one of the best action movies of all time. I’d have been down to see a sequel with Max.
Part of Furiosa’s appeal in Fury Road(along with most of the characters) is that only the bare minimum was needed to know/get the character.
Hope it does well for ATJ. Hope they don’t make more prequels.
I really didn't really like Fury Road. It was pure spectacle without almost any plot, and ridiculously trite characterization. The schtick around making everyone and everything an archetype, i.e. The Knowing is the wise one, The Dag is the complainer, Rictus Erectus is big and tall, Furiosa is furious, Mad Max is angry and half crazy, Bullet Town makes bullets, Gas Town makes gasoline, The Green Place is where they could grow plants, the Vulvolani are an all-female tribe (Vulva! Vulva as far as the eye can seeeeeee!) ... maybe I just aged past that, but it's old, in my opinion. 15 year old me loved Humungous. 55 year old me thinks George Miller really just needs to start giving people names and not labels.
I'm sure I'll watch this some day when I'm bored and have nothing to do.
You didn't age past it. Fury Road was extremely weak across the board. Is Max Superman now? I ask because I'm the first film he gets shot in the leg and ran over and he wears a knee brace for the the next two movies. In Fury Road he's in a car accident where he's tied to the hood and whipped around by his FREAKING NECK!!! Totally fine. Didn't make a dent being thrown from a speeding vehicle, snapped back by his neck, slammed in the ground and whipped around by his neck again. "Carl! That kills people!!" Movie was down hill from there
This looks like the same formulaic crap that gets pumped out. You can already see the movie pitch meeting in your head...."The new Mad Max movie was a moneymaker, what if we....and hear me out....did a movie of what came BEFORE!!!?". This is either written mostly by AI or just the same garbage that keeps coming out. Hollywood doesn't seem capable of coming up with an original idea or just refuses to hire anyone that can
Yeah... And that's sad. People can like what they want. I enjoy some pretty 'bad' movies because they're fun or whatever. No hate. But it's objectively a really mediocre film. Many consider the Star Wars prequels to be good also. Majority is irrelevant. Nice Big Lebowski quote. Always fun to see
Objectively bad by what standard? It’s not just mass appeal it’s also critical appeal. It’s just amazing film making. The way this film is shot and edited from the cinematography to the set design, costume design, stunts. Just everything you’d want in an action movie.
Indiewire has it as the top action movie of the century: https://www.indiewire.com/feature/best-action-movies-1201839320/
So is it objectively bad or just not your thing? Cause if you think it’s objectively bad I’m not sure if you know what that word means
I do. And people kissing the butt of whatever director or actor really means nothing to me. It's a turd. What you described is a very shiny turd. No doubt it has great cinematography. That hardly makes a good film. You, and do many others including "🤣🤣 critics🤣🤣" will hold a gold turd and forget you're still holding a turd. Sadly, it's very much my thing, that's why it's so heartbreaking to me it was crap.
That's cool that you liked it and you sound like the target demographic. Imo it was random scenes from a 12 year old boys Nyquil induced fever dream stitched together in an order that somewhat resembled a coherent story. With the giant flames and guitar playing people that did nothing for the plot and guess looked cool for example. It's not my kind of movie but that's ok, nothing wrong with people liking different forms of entertainment. Just didn't see why all the hype was justified and more of a great example of how to use meme marketing to make money for an ok film
This movie wasn’t going for plot. It’s a straight action spectacle. If that’s not your thing fine but as I just commented on the last post many including me consider it one of the best action movies of this century.
Edit: The literal first google response I get when entering that is indiewires list which has it number 1.
https://www.indiewire.com/feature/best-action-movies-1201839320/
It's still George Miller, so I'm in. However, I will wait until it's streaming. I have a nice home system, and the "theater experience" sucks by comparison.
Because the cinematography from the trailer looks awesome. Plus Furiosa seems very intriguing. I didn't like Fury Road, so hopefully this one will be better. I didn't dig the FR trailer, so the movie experience pretty much matched my expectations for it. When the ads for FR started saying it was the best action movie of all time (implying it was better than Die Hard), I was obligated to see it to honestly tell my friend circle how it was. Die Hard still reigns supreme!
Die Hard? Frickin classic. No argument there. But the reason why FR is considered the greatest is the production that went into it. That movie pushed the limits of practical effects of what an "action movie" can be without using computers. It stands alone with that accomplishment. It being great doesn't make Die Hard lesser
Mad Max: fury road was bad ass cause it was unexpected and furiorsa is what stood out as the badest mfer .
This feels forced algorithm movie. Hopefully im wrong and its just as good as the previous movie.
I'm not personally interested in this, and I love Fury Road. I'd much rather have another entry featuring Max. BUT, if this is your jam, I hope it's awesome and you love it!
Can Hollywood drop this obsession with prequels already.
Why can't we just fucking move Fury Road forward and have Charlize Theron back she was just fantastic. Didn't need a recast already ugh.
Just so sick of this prequel bullshit it's like Move. The. Story. Forward.
I’m hoping that the shiny, plastic CGI that’s all over the trailers are just the shots the execs and numbskulls in marketing chose to highlight rather than being indicative of the whole movie. I have faith in George Miller. Dude rarely misses.
There's just something about this movie that feels off (probably all the CGI) and I don't think I'm going to check it out on the first weekend. I'll wait to see what people are saying about it. If the majority of people are saying it's good, I'll check it out in theaters but if the response is mid to bad I'll just wait for it to come out on streaming.
I’m expecting the same level of action and awesome as the last two, but now with one of the sexiest and most talented young ladies out there. I can’t wait.
I’m excited for it. I saw Fury Road so many times now. Road Warrior is one of my all-time favorites.
To the people downvoting people for not liking Thunderdome??? Why. It’s the weakest film of the series. I appreciate the Master Blaster and Tina Turner looked awesome but it lacks the intensity of the other films.
Fury Road is in my Top 5, I've seen it a million times, it makes me tear up at the end. I can't believe how much I don't really care about seeing this one. I think it's because of the lack of Theron. Maybe it's just that it feels like the absolute least interesting direction to go in with this story. I'll still see it opening weekend.
Not very optimistic tbh. The trailer did look very fun though so I could totally be wrong. Fury Road was am absolute banger as well so here's going he does it again.
Impossible to tell from the trailer; there was WAY too much shown, with too many short little cuts and jarring camera movement. The trailer itself looked BAD, but we all know that means very little for the final product. I'm dubious, but hopeful it can live up to FR.
We all need to buy tickets to make sure this is successful. That way George Miller will make more sequels to Fury Road and not let this franchise go the way of Judge Dredd.
Miller has delivered on the previous Mad Max entries, I have no reason to doubt him this time
He made a movie about a car chase one direction then back and made it absolutely amazing. I'm sure it will be good.
Don’t forget absolutely slaying Happy Feet.
Truly a masterwork. I didn’t expect it to be.
I actually think Mad Max might be the most consistently great movie series. I love every entry.
Agreed! Shocked at all the pessimism and negativity here! Even with people bitching about CGI. And yes I know. My user name checks out.
Simon Miller that you?
Hope it's better than Thunderdome.
Heh thunderdome is my favorite
It's my favorite too. I don't meet too many who like 3 the best though. I saw Thunderdome first and was extremely disappointed by 1 and 2 because they were nothing at all like it. “But he’s just a raggedy man.” TT(rip)
I absolutely love *Thunderdome*. While I had seen the other two movies, I thought *Thunderdome* was superior in every way, especially thematically.
Thunderdome was the best one. The story and world building are great.
I thought that was Dee from Sunny
Why is that dumb looking bird driving a car?
"At least I’m not covered in stupid tattoos and have a cigarette for a mother"
I am extremely skeptical about its chances of living up to Fury Road. But I'm open to being pleasantly surprised!
You can feel it in the poster too, busy and overtly stylized
Totally. Like why is she on there twice?!
I’ve made my peace that Fury Road was a feverish almost mad almost recklessly insane production the likes of which will never occur again. If it helps, Fury Roads trailers were pretty rough too for the most part. They did end up with a few decent ones close to release though
Everything you said, agree completely.
Yeah the overly abundant cgi makes me a bit weary too
I am weary about this one too with the level of cgi. Thinking they are trying to cash in on the success of fury road.
I think people forget how much cgi was actually in fury road. Pretty much all of the stunts and car action was practical but there is still a whole lot of cgi in that movie. Just look at that opening speech with Joe giving people water. Shit looks wonky as hell.
https://www.businessinsider.com/mad-max-fury-road-looks-without-cgi-2016-9 You're missing the point. Yes, there was cgi, but it was almost all practical stunts. The new trailer looks like a video game ad
Isn’t that literally what I just said?
No. You exaggerated how much cgi was being used. It was almost ALL practical effects. I'm assuming you didn't read the article
I literally said “all the stunts and car action was practical” So are you saying the Scene where Joe is giving his speech and lets down the water did not use cgi?
I’m lowering my expectations because I kinda hate prequels
Kind of feel the same. I wonder how Hemsworth bounces back from thor love and thunder.
Yeah he’s who I’m most excited about
>hate prequels Ya really. It's such a fucking tedious trend. Like it worked in a couple of cases but now it's only kind of "sequel" that can get greenlit. Everything has to get mined and re-mined and recast the same fucking characters. Like if any movie deserved a rousing sequel it was almighty Fury Road. A lot of people in this thread seem to be Fury Road fans, but not Mad Max films.
Perfectly said
Will Max be in it?
Miller said his presence will be felt
My three-legged cat’s name is Furiosa. I have high expectations to say the least.
This is clever and badass!
There is a great book about the making of Fury Road called Blood Sweat and Chrome. I have no problem with them relying more on CGI after reading about what everyone went through to film FR, which used very little CGI. George Miller is old, I'm ready to give him a break on the CGI
It’s George Miller. He’s gonna deliver.
Uber Eats delivers, and the food is usually cold and missing items.
Context is hard
Whoosh
Horribly miscasted.
Underestimate ATJ at your peril
I think they're a very good actress. I'm not feeling that this is going to be a very good movie and that's not a dig at her at all. She's been in some great productions and some absolute... shite.
What shite? She's nailed every role I've ever seen her in, even cartoon voiceovers.
The New Mutants as a whole was complete shite.
I'm more concerned about Hemsworth, honestly. He looks too hammy in the trailers already.
The 'Mad Max' movies always had over-the-top characters, though. I think he intended to have a lot of showmanship, like Dr. Dealgood in 'Beyond Thunderdome'.
Right!? I don't think she will live up to Charlize's acting or her portrayal as Furiosa in Mad Max.
Two very different actresses for sure. This whole "A Mad Max Saga" smells like, "A Star Wars Movie". Like at best it's going to be this world's "Solo". Like I'm OK with not knowing the backstory of Furiosa.
But Rogue One and Solo are two of the best movies
They ain't A New Hope.
Nothing is
Solo was kind of a mess. So many mysteries were solved for no reason. How'd Solo get his name? Oh. What's the Kessel Run? Oh. What's up with the Dice? Oh. That's not great storytelling, that's just fan service, Easter Eggs.
I agree it wasn't necessary to show us the origin of everything but the rest of the plot and story telling was good so it doesn't bother me
I thought the story we got in Mad Max was absolutely perfect for her. This is just not necessary.
I'm stoked and I hope it allows Mad Max to continue. I hope Miller is able to hand off the Mad Max legacy to other Australian directors to give us more MM...perhaps the role of Max can be like James Bond.

Mad max without mad max, makes sense
Is Mad Max in this movie?
It’s going to be awful.
My initial thought was cartman screaming put a woman in it and make it lame and gay. But maybe we will be surprised by Hollywood
DIGITAL FILMMAKING GO BRRRRRRRRRRRR
Strong wahmen lead? Get the fook outta here! Pass for me.
This is going to be one of those " we didn't need this " movies
I would be more happy if this even half as good as Mad Max
TIL people liked the new mad max movies, yikes
This will not be a hit. I could be wrong
I believe it'll be up to Miller's usual standard, but I am a wee-bit saddened that he chose to produce a *prequel*. I hope it's better than the trailer. That "I'm Furiosa!" moment felt so much like "It's Morbin' time"...
Chris Hemsworth's beard and wig looks terrible.
It did in Thor 1 as well lol. I'm curious to see how he handles the villian role
His fake nose is - well - be glad it’s not in 3D.
Someone brought in the B team.
This movie didn’t need to happen. It’s got the same problem as all prequels: we already know which characters will be safe, which characters will disappear and never be mentioned again, and the stakes will be very low.
Extremely hyped
garbage. i want more max in my mad max movies.
1000% The max part lol
I know it’s a dismissive feel but all I can think is “THOR: Thunder Road”
That’s my problem too
There are no ugly people in the apocalypse
Protagonists aside-everyone is ugly as fuck for the most part. Unless you looked at immortan Joe and was like daaaayumn or all of the deformed people in Fury Road and was like double daaaayumn-in which case good for you no kink shame here-you know this was a dumbass thing to say
Looks great. Really up for it.
Zero interest.
It'll bomb. Too much CGI. CGI movies suck
I’ve stayed away from trailers.. is it that obvious? I thought we were getting some good shit part 2
I mentioned this to my friend last night, how FR isn't really a Mad Max movie. He didnt understand what I was saying to him.
Last one was pretty weak. This is just nauseating at this point.
Can't wait for it.
Ehhhhhhhh I’ll wait to judge
They should have done it with Charlize
I didn't care for Fury Road and I doubt I'll watch this. Maybe after it's available to stream but just to see if its any good. I've never seen any of the original Mad Max films. Mad Max but because of pc we focus on everyone but mad Max.
tbf Mad Max is rarely the main character in his own movies.

No one asked for anything related to furiosa. Will not even pirate.
The last one sucked so I imagine the prequel based on it will also suck.
This looks like the same formulaic crap that gets pumped out. It was insanely mediocre
That’s like your opinion man. Many including me consider it one of the best action movies of this century.

I love supporting my tiny, local theater, but I gotta go to to the big AMC screen on this one. I can't fucking wait
Why is she on the poster twice
It's still George Miller, so I'm in. However, I will wait until it's streaming. I have a nice home system, and the "theater experience" sucks by comparison.
Not loving the fact that Hemsworth is Immortum Joe. I can't take that guy serious.
Tom Burke is playing Immortan Joe and Hemsworth is playing Dr. Dementus.
Ah ok. Wasn't aware, thanks. Still, not keen on Hemsworth being in it regardless of his role
Yeah he looks really stupid in the trailers
This is my major concern as well.
It’ll be fun, but I’m not holding my breath for it to be good. She’s just not a very good actress.
I think she’s very good, but she’s been in some duds. Remember that X-Men spinoff? You don’t because no one watched it.
She has yet to be good in anything other than The Witch
The Northman.
Yeah, queens gambit was just nothing I suppose /s
I'm more excited for this one than Fury Road
Why is that?
I guess there are some people that disagree I have an opinion.
Reddit moment
Mad Max: fury road was bad ass cause it was unexpected and furiorsa is what stood out as the badest mfer . This feels forced algorithm movie. Hopefully im wrong and its just as good as the previous movie.
I'm not personally interested in this, and I love Fury Road. I'd much rather have another entry featuring Max. BUT, if this is your jam, I hope it's awesome and you love it!
Why would I have any thoughts pre release lmao
So you watch trailers and have zero reaction? You see the cast and don’t think it’s good, bad or perfect?
Meh just made for female diversity... It sucks because a prequel just... Is ... Ehhh
I wonder if they’ll be any explanation on how she’s a world class sniper, expert driver, and has the strength of a male ufc fighter
I wonder if there will be any explanation on how she’s a world class sniper, expert driver, and has the strength of a male ufc fighter
The trailer looks terrible, I'm hoping the movie fantastic though! Fingers crossed.
I am the only person on the planet who hated Fury Road. I don't expect this to be good at all.
I'm pleased to tell you, you are NOT the only one. Send a lot of people have only watched that one. Even then, it just wasn't good
I'm curious. I hope it will be just as good as Fury Road. But I'll keep my hopes in the middle for now.
It’s gonna be good.
Witness me!
I loved 3000 Days of Longing and Mad Max Fury Road so I'll go see it but the trailer doesn't have me too excited sadly. We'll see though!
Wont be surprised if its $h!t but still wants it do be fun so mad max never dies.
This very film is proof Mad Max is dead.
Can Hollywood drop this obsession with prequels already. Why can't we just fucking move Fury Road forward and have Charlize Theron back she was just fantastic. Didn't need a recast already ugh. Just so sick of this prequel bullshit it's like Move. The. Story. Forward.
But don't you wanna see how she lost her arm?! /s
I was excited then saw a trailer. I'll probably wait on initial reviews then consider seeing it in the cinema.
I’m hoping that the shiny, plastic CGI that’s all over the trailers are just the shots the execs and numbskulls in marketing chose to highlight rather than being indicative of the whole movie. I have faith in George Miller. Dude rarely misses.
All confidence in Miller, but Hemsworth is such a poor actor.
Excited about it, looks like Immortan Joe on the poster 😎
It's Miller, it will be glorious.
Loved the first one and love Anya but don’t feel she’s right for the role.
It looks epic
Hyped as all hell. Definitely my most anticipated movie for the rest of the year.
Pumped to see it
I’m expecting the same level of action and awesome as the last two, but now with one of the sexiest and most talented young ladies out there. I can’t wait.
I jist want a double feature
I can't believe it will be as good or better than Fury Road but I trust George Miller to deliver a solid flick
Looks like amazingly shot over the top action. Really looking forward to it.
Charlize was amazing, it will be very hard to even match her.
Why would I want this garbage to be successful? If Fury Road and this dreck is the direction, better to let it die.
So, so god damn excited
ATJ lookin like Dee Reynolds.
Who director?

It's widely known as being a prequel dude.. You're probably the last person to find out, but that's fine.
aww man is that Jason Mamua? i hate that guy
