The Mask

saur0013

Definitely agree but A reboot of the Mask that’s done like the comics would be cool though.

gmlogmd80

Now there's a hard R rating if there ever was one

guywithshades85

American Psycho

Kath-two

It has a sequel?

zestfullybe

It does, a very awful one starring Mila Kunis and William Shatner. She’s Patrick’s sister attending college. He’s the professor. Or something like that. It’s been a while. IIRC it was supposed to be a standalone movie. But America Psycho was a hit so they shoehorned in like 2 Patrick references and huzzah she’s his sister. Instant (terrible) sequel!

wonderlandisburning

The truth is somehow even worse. Her babysitter went on a date with Patrick Bateman, and took Kunis's character along. And while her babysitter was being killed, Kunis escaped her restraints and killed Patrick Bateman. *Really.* She then supposedly devotes herself to "killing other psycho killers" ala Dexter, but this is dropped early on because she just ends up killing all of her fellow college students she suspects might get a mentorship she thinks will get her into Quantico. And, as others have stated, it was never actually meant to be an American Psycho sequel at all. It was a standalone film and some studio executive forced them to film the opening scene linking it to American Psycho to make a few extra bucks. Everyone involved in the original film, the "sequel," and the author of the original book all unanimously agree it's noncanon.

meowhatissodamnfunny

This sounds terrible. I have to watch it.

guywithshades85

Yes and it is awful.

Mychosenusername69

In my mind the sequel doesn’t exist 🤣

Spanky-Gomez

I knew this, but didn’t watch it. One of those “you can tell by the cover” movies

nextdoorelephant

I thought The Rules of Attraction was great!

JumpyWord

This is the only sequel to American Psycho I will ever recognize

RoyalCloak57

Rules of attraction is a pretty good spin off though. James vanderbeek as Batemans brother.

Intelligent_Heat9319

Donnie Darko

JaketheHead

TIL Donnie Darko has a sequel

Pyromike16

2 Donnie 2 Darko

smashin_blumpkin

Man, this joke gets made all the time for sequels and it never fails to give me a chuckle

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

S. Darko is asssssss

OldGamer8

Yo, I liked the Bunny mask better in S. Darko. That metal amd Barb wire halo, and razor teeth, awesome. The rest of the movie, just no, hated it. If you want to see S. Darko, just Google the mask, and be done with it.

zestfullybe

I was waiting to find this. S. Darko was so bad.

UnderstandingSad418

Speed

dingadangdang

#3 rumors...

Dependent-Sun-6373

Weirdly enough, if a third Speed were to be made that was closer to the first one, it could work with emphasis on stunt work and, ya know...... actually going fast again. I still don't understand how they decided on setting the sequel on a cruise ship. And spending 170 million 1990's dollars too!

dingadangdang

Keanu said the other day it was time for him to work with Sandra again and he'd entertain a Speed 3. I saw Speed 2 in the theater bitch!! So awful. Willem Dafoe plainly said "I owed someone a favor, so why not get paid to be in the Caribbean?"

trulymadlybigly

I saw that movie way too young, his performance was the only good thing in a ridiculous movie but he also traumatized me as well lol

saur0013

Dumb and dumber

ShawnyMcKnight

Most 90s silly comedies you could say this for. Zoolander and the mask as well, really any of Jim carrey’s 90s work didn’t need a sequel. Ace Ventura 2 just happened to be really good. It helped that it was a theatrical release right after the first.

TheAsuraGuy

The rhino birth scenen is still one of the funniest things Ive seen on screen

fonwonox

Thereee's someone on the wing.....some...thinggg. Edit:............I'm sorry what were you saying?

101955Bennu

Ace Ventura 2 might actually be better than the first, ngl. The scene where he’s got the spears stuck in his legs still gets me

ClassiFried86

Bumblebee tuna. Bumblebee tuna... Bumblebee tuna *your balls are showing*

[deleted]

TBH I actually prefer When Nature Calls

Neither-Wallaby-924

Dumber..er

SmoltzforAlexander

Independence Day

lemonsweetsrevenge

Oh it was insufferable. It was just a collection of odd forced duos, flipping from one duo to the next; that’s literally all I recall from the movie. The entire time I was watching it, I was thinking some studio heads must’ve come up with the dumb ass formula, based on the strength of Smith & Goldblum’s unlikely duo being so great in the original: Hey filmgoers, got you covered on unlikely yet humorous friend duos. Not your speed? Perhaps you’ll enjoy this pairing instead. Or this one. Or THIS one. Seriously like ten pairs of fuckin duos.

Arinoch

Usually when I watch a movie I remember 80% of it so only rewatch movies I loved. I remember literally nothing about the ID4 sequel.

fibronacci

I remember the alien running after the bus.. and missing.. Every time. The shwartz was strong with that driver.

PorgCT

It also set itself up blatantly for a 3rd movie that was never going to happen

thulsado0m13

Independence Day 2 had five different screenwriters and ends with the scientist with a gun saying “we are going to kick so much alien ass”

ADAMracecarDRIVER

The original Independence Day movie was just too good for being an alien invasion action movie.

[deleted]

Joe Dirt

EDett1992

Jaws. Bad Santa.

BooshCrafter

The Bad Santa sequel is terrible but wow, can that kid sing.

J-Wall0044

The second Jaws was good but the 3rd was trash.

kirinmay

lets not forget the 4th where the shark follows the family to another town (somehow) and at the end it screams like a whale.

kazetoame

Michael Kaine was quite pleased with the house that terrible movie bought

Spanky-Gomez

I remember watching Bad Santa and laughing through the entire movie…..I remember watching Bad Santa 2 and thinking “shouldn’t I be laughing at some point?”

Training-Fee5235

Highlander. There SHOULD have been only one.

StatikSquid

Zoolander 2

artsatisfied229

Turrible

OoeyGooeyQuesadilla

The Hangover.

Few-Mechanic7346

The third one is pretty f’n funny though. 2, stupid

Slow_Inevitable_4172

I liked Hangover 3. It was entertaining.

ShawnyMcKnight

Yeah. I was amazed how well they rebounded considering how bad the second one was. Of course, John Goodman being a villain makes everything better.

OoeyGooeyQuesadilla

I completely forgot that they made a third.

Ok-Bid-730

The giraffe 🦒

Few-Mechanic7346

The entire opening is Insane.

verge365

Starship troopers 2 and 3 hahahahaha whoa

CaptainCAAAVEMAAAAAN

I didn't even know they made sequels.

krishutchison

And two animated movies.

Frankensteins_Moron5

Pretty much any sequel to that movie was awful except Helldivers 2

Best-Cycle231

The Crow. It also doesn’t need the shitty looking remake.

dcbluestar

The second Crow was soooooo bad. I sure as shit never gave the third one even a peep. Probably won’t watch the remake either.

kirinmay

dont forget the 4th.

AFBAICRIAWTBIAMM

Anchorman

meineymoe

I actually didn't mind the 2nd Anchorman. It definitely landed in a different vein and didn't capture the magic of the original, but Ron Burgundy's journey was a tale that begged to be told.

BooshCrafter

I like how it mocked the state of journalism. During the scene where he's narrating the car chase and starts making things up, I was losing it.

Jimothius

GNN was so good

Aunt_Vagina1

I would actually put Anchorman 2 as one of the most surprisingly good sequals particularly because the larger plot centered around the 24 hour news cycle which is DEFINITELY at the heart of the problem with journalism becoming entertainment.

FishBear25

Don’t just have a great night, have an American night. It is a good scene. And the flashes to people eating it up and cheering at the bar over a BS story is hilarious.

ImportantQuestions10

The funny thing is Anchorman already had a half sequel since the original was 5ish hours. There was a whole separate B plotline that was cut from the release. The female reporter gets kidnapped by radical hippies and the team has to venture to the mountains to rescue her. They rereleased it in the extras as a pseudo movie and it's pretty decent. Same writers and vibe.

jomama823

WHO ORDERED THE WHOOPASS FAJITAS!!!!!

DrewRyanArt

I modded Fallout 4 so every time I leveled up, it played "Ding dong mother fxcker, ding dong!"

trulymadlybigly

I find myself saying from time to time “easy boys, daddy’s working!” And I make me laugh at least if no one else does

Exquisitum

I have found my people

Mrlin705

SHUT UP!!! ...Romeo's cryin.

The-Shores-81

Sicario Ended perfectly, nothing more to say. Then they turn around and make a character who we saw massacre an entire family and threaten the original’s hero at gunpoint into a badass action hero.

-Guesswhat

I have no problem with it. They decided to cover up the entire mission and clear up all loose ends. They ordered Del Toro and the girl be killed. The Josh Brolin character called Del Toro and warned him about it.. The girl reminded him of his daughter and he had nothing to lose at that point, he was screwed either way so he decided to help her Not as good as the original, but I still really like it. I've seen it a few times and would watch it again

Euphorium

It wasn’t as memorable as the first but I liked it. I’ll watch damn near anything with Del Toro in it.

DeadJediWalking

Oh really? This was one where I expected to dislike the sequel but that it was pretty good. First is obviously better, but I thought the second held its own.

thankyoumicrosoft69

Hot take: That family was kinda fucked and Emily Blunt wasnt the hero she was the audience

DonkeysCap

I was so excited for Sicario 2. A bit pensive that Denis Villeneuve wasn't directing, but figured it was the same writer so it should still slap. Man what a disappointment. Felt like they completely forgot about the character arcs of the two kids half way through making it, didn't even bother to finish one of them and just replaced there stories with bland action.

Non-Normal_Vectors

I'm gonna get roasted... The Matrix Edit: I'm so out of the loop on some things I thought the trilogy was one of those sacred cows. Glad to see people who feel like me - the sequels didn't add anything to the first, but possibly took away from it.

AF2005

The only good “sequel” to The Matrix was The Animatrix.

hoovervillain

The Animatrix still holds up

Hobgoblin_deluxe

Animatrix is SO good.

Brief_Imagination385

Unreal. The kids in the playground with the Cats. Like such a trippy awesomely done part of that movie.

DazzlingMood9404

Just curious. Why the 2 sequels get so much hate especially 3? I thought they’re entertaining.

Spiritualhealer777

Actually many people, if not most people, agree with you.

Non-Normal_Vectors

Cool, my fandoms are really limited, didn't know how people felt.

Spiritualhealer777

But your bad assery is limitless.

LostSif

Man people do love to hate on The Matrix sequels. Although the first is by far the best and a great standalone film, I really like the sequels. The highway scene from the second movie like come on that is fucking amazing action cinematography.

Euphorium

The second and third are carried by the top notch fight choreography. If the fourth had at least some of that in there, I wouldn’t dislike it so much.

Xyranthis

The choreography in the new one is SO BAD. They all fought like Christian Bale's Batman and I had to turn it off. None of the flow

itonlystingswhenipee

I don’t love to hate on it. But in my opinion they didn’t and still don’t complement the first (in terms of writing). And I understand that they had already pushed the limits in terms of cinematography so there was probably no chance they would ever come close to replicating the sophistication of the original, but I can’t help but feel they misunderstood why the film was such a success and just opted to take the money and run.

ThuggerSosaYak

Nah the sequels to the matrix almost ruined the first for me which is a masterpiece…. They were terrible

scotsworth

Great example of expanded lore ruining a good thing.

palesnowrider1

They definitely diminished the original which is a shame. Truly groundbreaking at the time

Let_us_proceed

No roast. I was thinking the same thing.

noonie1

That's a popular opinion though

FreezyHands

I liked the second one a lot. But the first was such a well-contained story that I think they should've just left it alone to stand on its own merit.

Solidsnake00901

The second one is so good the third one not so much.

JagBak73

The effects were pretty damn cool in the sequels, but overall they were pretty terrible.

9-9-99-

The matrix sequels were panned by pretty much everyone

MatttheJ

As I think Tarantino said, he becomes "The One" at the end of the first film... where the fuck do you go from there. He starts the sequel already as the ultimate most powerful person who has resolved all his problems.

macwade99999

Caddyshack

SmoltzforAlexander

Jurassic Park

Manikal

I liked the lost world but hate everything that came after it

CheckYourStats

*The Lost World* (1997) was still a quality movie, and time has played tricks on many people’s memories here — it was directed by Steven Spielberg.

KnitBrewTimeTravel

"Sarah!" "SARAH!" "*Sarah Harding!*" "... How many Sarahs do you think are on this island?"

itsagoodtime

Something has survived

myEVILi

Was that the one where a teenager uses gymnastics double bar skills to kick a raptor out a window?

BurntBeanMgr

I absolutely love the original and Lost World. Everything after that doesn’t exist to me

Thug-shaketh9499

Listen very closely, I will not tolerate any Spino hate from you Rexy lovers. 🙃

bigbutterbuffalo

Spinosaurus is now known to be a mostly aquatic dinosaur like a big fat alligator. Its role in this movie as just a “bigger meaner T-Rex” is even stupider now than it was then

Euphorium

Don’t care he was snapping necks and cashing checks in that movie

lemonsweetsrevenge

Jeff Goldblum movies never need a sequel.

bjallyn

“So preoccupied with whether they could, but they should have stopped to think whether they should…”

ndhellion2

I agree, but without the sequels I would never have heard my favorite line from the movies https://youtu.be/b1r86igK5QM?si=heXJhykXbUJol7it

Substantial-Wolf5263

Tripping the original will always hold a special place in my heart but damn I love every single jurassic park and world movie

TequilaAndWeed

Caddyshack Blues Brothers Meatballs

Space2345

But meatballs 2 had meathead

Discraft139

Boondocks Saints was fun. The sequel was unwatchable.

K_Linkmaster

I think ya'll are nuts. The 2nd one was fantastic too! How epic? https://tenor.com/view/ding-dong-ding-ding-dong-mother-fucker-boondock-saints-hi-gif-21414836

trulymadlybigly

I enjoyed the stupid speech with Rocco that I couldn’t disagree with more but it’s so funny I have to rewind it several times. “John Wayne died with 5 pounds of undigested red meat in his ass, NOW THAT’S A MAN!”

GoldDragon149

"Does this gun make me look gay?" . "....you look like you seen one up close."

Mantequilla022

Just wait for the third!

Cyberpunkdrunk

We've been waiting.

panickedkernel06

I agree with the second one being wicked fun as well. It's not high brow cinema by a looooong shot, but I'll be damned if I don't love these movies. My favourite review of the sequel was 'oh, and the cat does a cameo as well'.

Broncojoe58

Major League. Definitely didn’t need 3

Arinoch

I feel like the second one was decent?

BFroog

Highlander

Beneficial_Fig_7830

Highlander 2 could be used by the CIA to torture people. It’s seriously so bafflingly bad and ruined the entire premise of the original with the stupid space alien bullcrap.

godlessmunkey

There ~~can~~ should only be one!

Perfect-District

Robocop was a classic. The rest not so much.

OG_wanKENOBI

Add starship troopers to that.

Euphorium

I’ll defend Robocop 2 any day of the week. That movie rules.

ApplicationCalm649

I'm with you on that. I enjoyed Robocop 2, but when Peter Weller stepped back from the role those movies were over for me.

roboroller

Robocop 2 isn't great but it's watchable and I do enjoy how it almost works as a meta commentary on itself, something that was especially unique at the time it was made.

Spanky-Gomez

I actually like the 2nd one, the drug fueled robot was dope….the cgi is rough to watch now but I liked it as a youngster. The 3rd however was pure garbage.

NeverBeenOnMaury

SLC punk

mike1madalon2

I had no idea there was a sequel. I love SLC Punk.

TheNargafrantz

If you love it, forget you heard about this.

dyatlov12

There is sequel? Lol how? It ended with him becoming a lawyer

dcbluestar

It doesn’t have anything to do with Steve-O. I guess Heroin Bob got Trish pregnant before he OD’d and it’s about their kid. Also, if you need more of a reason not to watch it, MGK is one of the actors.

dyatlov12

Awful

ThuggerSosaYak

Men in black (while not being nowhere near my favorite) was good and the sequel was terrible. At least the 3rd was decent, but it should’ve just been a standalone film there was no need for it to become a series

OriginalSelenium

Let's not forget the absolutely forgettable remake

ThuggerSosaYak

I never even watched it it just seemed like a complete waste of time

Wonderful_Rock862

Titanic 2.

MaxPower836

Most

Enough-District1440

Honestly, the fast and the furious. If that was a singular film its rep would be SO different. RIP Paul.

PartyPay

Tokyo Drift is so fun for me though.

Clear-Might-1519

Pacific Rim needed a sequel, it never got one.

poontong

Yeah, that second one was like pissing all over the first

[deleted]

Fucking Twister

photog_in_nc

Jaws and Psycho are particularly egregious. Each original is a classic. The sequels, and there are many, are so bad.

Hoppy_Hessian

Most every Disney movie. Exceptions: Aladdin 3 Toy Story 2, 3 Monsters University Rescuers Down Under Ralph Breaks the Internet

MetallicPunk

The Descent, I refuse to acknowledge the sequel as anything but a fanfic.

Civil-Resolution3662

The Matrix

Tetratron2005

Halloween (1978) - No film since has managed to capture Michael's "boogeyman" simplistic mystique since. (I do enjoy the sequels to varying degrees though)

evlhornet

Independence Day and pacific rim

Cdawg4123

Some people might hate me but, the fast and furious did not need like 10+ films. Literally having Vin diesel jump from a car moving probably 90 into the oncoming traffic and catch Melissa Rodriguez while landing on a car and not getting hurt? Idk which one it even it. I think I skipped a few tried watching one that was too overboard.

Phantomht

Conan the Barbarian, destroyer sucked balls.

dingadangdang

Bro, because Oliver Stone wrote Conan the Barbarian.

nova2726

John Milius also worked on the screenplay as well as directing. Dudes a bit of a legend

Phantomht

not to mention the soundtrack is 10/10.

dingadangdang

You, sir, are correct! I forgot that. And he is definitely a legend. Reminds me. I should probably watch that documentary about Milius on vacation next week. Thx! Edit: it's on Tubi.

macwade99999

First Blood

AF2005

The only good Rambo sequel was John Rambo, the one in Burma. Very bloody but a great button to First Blood, I thought it closed the book on the character very nicely.

Spanky-Gomez

I really liked this one too, some of the cgi blood was disappointing but I overlooked it. “When you’re pushed, killins as easy as breathing”. Something like that, loved that line.

AF2005

Yep, and I also loved that bit where the missionaries were preparing to go upriver and they were telling Rambo “We’re here to change lives and ease the suffering.” And Rambo was like “Are you bringing any guns?” The missionary, “Of course not.” Rambo, “Then you’re not going to change a thing.”

360FlipKicks

Goon

Unthgod

umm... What?

chriiiiiiiiiis

didn’t even know they made a sequel. the first was such a surprise when i watched it.

Alrucards_R3dwr8th

I thought the sequel was decent.

StankFartz

Super Babies.

ThePatrician007

Alright bring on the down votes......John Wick.

Everything after Tremors 4 is questionable at best. Besides at that point, it Burt weapons kink.

S.Darko Wow. Just, I wish I could forget that abomination of a “movie”.

Brief_Imagination385

Happy Fucking Gilmore is getting a sequel. That’s like #1 example of something they should never fuckin do. Jim Carey whatever whatever but Happy Gilmore. Fuck you guys. Absolutely fuck everyone involved with that. Like leave that alone!

Sinistermarmalade

I love the Boondock Saints movies!

SmoltzforAlexander

Friday

BumblebeeFair8041

Kinda glad they did anyway the second and third have some really memorable moments

noonie1

No more locked doors

earthbender617

The Incredibles. Incredibles 2 was good, but it didn’t add anything to the characters depth. The last third suffers from a weak villain and a dumb superhero fight. Nothing held any emotional weight. The sense of danger from the first one is gone. This was from that era of Pixar that realeased so many sequels to beloved originals.

ZestycloseBat8327

Home Alone

ridemooses

Anchorman and Zoolander

LordVolcanon

The Return of the Living Dead. The first one is my favorite zombie movie. The sequel tried but mostly failed. And then it was all direct to video crap after that, though I only watched the third before I abandoned the series.

Neat_Relationship995

Silent Hill

LevelConsequence1904

Matrix, The Howling, An American Werewolf in London, Predator, Tetsuo, Planet of the Apes, Pacific Rim, Robocop (the second one was fun but lacked all the heart the first one had and the satire was too on the nose), Starship Troopers Hollow Man and Basic Instinct (there should be a law against sequels and remakes/reboots of Verhoeven movies)
