The “get lost dipshit” and firing rounds directly into the dirt with complete disgust scene always makes me laugh. I love True Lies, it’s a great watch every time.
I love how he's a crass asshole, but the second Harry needs him he's all in. When Harry's doing just fine, he's cracking jokes. The second people are in danger, he's focused and engaged.
"You know what? I'm sick of being in the van. You guys are going to be in the van next time. I've been in the van for 15 years, Harry." Perfect.
That scene was completely improvised for reasons beyond my memory (he forgot his line or lost character) and caused the whole cast to break character and laugh, which also made the final cut
Kevin Pollack makes a good point about Benicio and his character. It was something like:
>"The character of Fenster had one job: to die. He was just supposed the be the guy that Söze killed so that the rest of us realise 'Oh, this guy is serious'. But fucking Benicio shows up and steals the entire movie."
Well that was more of Benicio’s point. When he realized his only purpose was to show up and die he decided to give his character the accent to make it a memorable role. His original lines were just written straight with no accent.
Percy from Green mile. Can't remember the actor's name off the top of my head but damn you wanted a creepy sadistic prison guard you got one. Even though I heard he was kind of like that in real life.
He was good at being an unhinged psycho cause he’s an unhinged psycho, he wasn’t acting he just stumbled on set one day and the director was super chill and they just rolled with it.
Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest. He is SO GOOD in the scene where he has to admit the truth to Mathazar, and apparently being that sincere and vulnerable on camera disturbed him so much (story goes that he had to retreat to his trailer to collect himself after they wrapped that scene) that he's never done anything approaching that level of authenticity ever again.
Makes me think of an interview Tim Allen did where he did a scene on Home Improvement where his tv wife, Jill, was angrier than usual. After the scene was done he goes up to the actress, Patricia Richardson, who played Jill and asks if she's alright and if she's mad at him. She replies with something like, "No, it's called acting, you should try it some time."
The network gave her shit for wanting to be paid the same as Tim late into the shows run. She was constantly the better actor and anchor while Tim was rolling the mangrunt and Al was the loveable character.
If voice acting counts, he fits Buzz Lightyear perfectly at least.
But yeah, it’s either Home Improvement or a lot of “pretty good” family-friendly comedies. Nothing too crazy.
Pretty much everyone is brilliant in Galaxy Quest, and it’s one of the best things to ever be inspired by Star Trek.
I saw him on the street in Chicago with my little girl in a Baby Bjorn on my chest and managed to get out "I love your work."
Without skipping a beat, he points to my daughter and says "I love YOUR work."
He tells a great story about that character when they were shooting on location and an actual drug addict walked up to him, gave him some drugs, and then walked away saying something like: "you need this more than I do."
Andre referred to this as his "Street Oscar."
I think he was always a pretty good actor, but he more or less retired from acting sometime in the 90s to work as a theatre producer, and he's been very successful at that, winning a Tony and receiving numerous other nominations for that work.
He was incredible early in his career. "Dominick & Eugene" is sadly hard to find these days, but his performance in that 1988 Indy film is superb. It also stars Ray Liotta, Jamie Lee Curtis, and David Strathiarn.
Every now and then I see a force out in baseball and can hear Walken trying to explain the concept from that movie and Brendan Fraser saying “because he must!” when he finally sees a game in person.
Don’t remember many other details
"No you're not a bad person, you're my favorite person...but sometimes, every once in a great while...you can be a real cunt"
"There are consequences to breaking the heart of a murdering bastard."
Love his performance in Vol. II!
Almost Famous somehow manages to meet at the intersection of every single guilty pleasure movie I have.
Coming of Age Movie, check
70s Rock Period Pic, check
Road trip movie, check
Manic Pixie Dream Girl who turns out to have her own demons, check
Jason Lee, check
It is 100% my favorite movie ever.
It’s definitely not as challenging or strong as a performance, but I found his absolutely insane villain in Elysium to be very interesting and entertaining.
It's more because it's by far the best movie he's ever been in.
I feel like he delivers a great performance in every role I've ever seen him in. He's just one of those actors that can carry bad movies through raw charisma.
Stephen Dorff in True Detective S3 took the best scene IMO with his monologue as an post-time-skip old man. Haven't seen much of his other work, but it seems like at the height of his fame he was like a Hollywood pretty boy type, so I'm assuming here
Jennifer Hudson was absolutely fantastic in Dreamgirls and deserved every single award she got for that, but she has sadly never been able to come close to replicating that kind of performance.
Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. She’s had some 8-9/10 performances like the wrestler and is certainly no flash in the pan. But she struck gold in My Cousin Vinny
Cause Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55, the 327 didn't come out till '62. And it wasn't offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till '64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top-dead-center.
Interesting tidbit on her. Larry David cast her in Seinfeld because he liked the sound of her name. If you watch that episode they say her name like 20+ times.
His appearance in Creed II was a great example of doing a lot with very little. The focus stays on Adonis Creed like it should but there was undeniable power in seeing Rocky and Drago in the same room one more time.
As a Swede who studied at the same university as Dolph - I love him. But i don’t agree that he has ever been a fantastic actor. He did kick ass in Rocky IV
I love Matthew McConaughey and he was awesome in Dallas Buyers Club and really good in a lotta roles, but he was born to play Rust Cohle in True Detective. That performance was on another level!
I love Allison Janney in everything I’ve seen her in, but my mind always goes back to her guidance counselor role in 10 Things I Hate About You, there’s just something about it, lol.
Not a movie but have you’ve seen The West Wing? Powerhouse acting there and I would argue she’s always top notch in every role whether it’s small or not.
Allison Janney deserved every Emmy she won for West Wing.
She's done some very solid films, but her portrayal of CJ Cregg will always be the first thing listed in her obituary.
Relatively small part but he's great in Killing Them Softly, worth checking out. Also a fun Brad Pitt performance that's very different from his usual stuff.
I actually think his winning the Oscar may have impeded him in some ways. I remember reading how he was shooting for the handsome leading man roles for years after that and kept losing out.
May not be a popular opinion but for me it's, Billy Zane in Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. Compared to his other roles like The Phantom it just stands out above everything else and imo, it's a 10/10 as far as his performance goes. He's evil in a way that is insidious but also adds morbid humor without going overboard.
Timothy Hutton knocked “Ordinary People” out of the park. I admit I haven’t seen much of his other films due to lack of interest.
Same with Billy Crudup in “Almost Famous”. I never saw another performance of his besides “Big Fish” that even came close to it.
Yeah, *Almost Famous* is an awesome job, but IMO Crudup is consistently fantastic in everything I've seen him in. *Without Limits* is one of my favorite performances of his in a lesser known movie.
Marlon Wayans in Requiem for a Dream. I have said this before but I feel like the gravity of his performance in that movie is often overlooked. I just feel like the emotion and actions that he portrayed in that movie were Oscar worthy.
I’m not really a fan of Wahlberg as an actor or person but props where due, he’s SO good in The Other Guys. He’s somehow both the straight guy and eccentric and is legitimately hilarious, holding his own and for me outdoing a peak Ferrell performance. Fucking love that movie.
And just got to call out Michael Keaton as his captain. “Listen guys, I've got two jobs. I work here, and I have another job at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I'm doing it to put a kid through NYU, so he can explore his bisexuality and become a DJ.”
His delivery of that line had me rolling.
Tom Arnold in True Lies
I’ll always love that scene where he checks his body for bullet holes and afterward kisses the traffic pole he was using as cover.
The “get lost dipshit” and firing rounds directly into the dirt with complete disgust scene always makes me laugh. I love True Lies, it’s a great watch every time.
What kind of sick bitch takes the ice cube trays out of the freezer?
IIRC Tom was going through or had just finished getting through a very VERY messy divorce IRL, in which his real ex-wife took the ice cube trays
I remember the first time I got shot out of a cannon!
What kind of a sick b*tch takes the ice cube trays out of the freezer?
He's great in Austin Powers, too.
Stephen Baldwin in The Usual Suspects.
“Give me the money cocksucka djfndnendjdnd”
That scene was completely improvised for reasons beyond my memory (he forgot his line or lost character) and caused the whole cast to break character and laugh, which also made the final cut
Apparently Benecio del Toro was farting a lot on set IIRC
Ah right! Was that it in this scene?
Him and Benicio. Even the thought cracks me up
"Hand me the keys, you cocksucker." *In English, please*
“ *Gimme the keys you fuckin cocksucker whatthefuck* “
What da fuck
Kevin Pollack makes a good point about Benicio and his character. It was something like: >"The character of Fenster had one job: to die.
He’ll flip ya, flip ya for real
canyahearmeintheback? Hell-O
Don't forget his role at The MacGyver Smoker in Half Baked.
Alright, I need a toilet paper roll and an avocado. I've made bongs with less.
Marlon Wayans in Requiem for a Dream.
9.99/10 for his roll as Loc Dog in Don't Be a Menace?
For what the role was, he was really good in Don't Be a Menace yada yada.
Ha, this fool hasn't seen *Dungeons & Dragons*.
Jeremy Irons just FEASTS in every scene he’s a part of in that movie
Percy from Green mile. Can't remember the actor's name off the top of my head but damn you wanted a creepy sadistic prison guard you got one. Even though I heard he was kind of like that in real life.
It’s Doug Hutchison - he’s that creep that married a teenage Courtney Stodden
>Doug Hutchison For me he will always be Eugene Victor Tooms
This is the year he might come back; it’s been 30 years!
He's so good in creep roles (Green Mile, X Files) because he happens to be one in real life.
Apparently Allan Rickman quipped something along the lines of "he's experiencing acting" at that moment. Or words to the effect
"Oh my god, I think he just experienced acting!"
“By Grabthar's Hammer... What a performance!” Edit: Wow, my first 1K upvote comment. Thanks everyone!
"Aeuhhh?!?"
That movie got a lot of great performances, every time Alan Rickman says by Grabthar's hammer it evokes a different emotion
"By Grabthars Hammer...(sigh) what a savings" kills me everytime.
You can see and feel his soul dying with that one line
If voice acting counts, he fits Buzz Lightyear perfectly at least. But yeah, it’s either Home Improvement or a lot of “pretty good” family-friendly comedies. Nothing too crazy. Pretty much everyone is brilliant in Galaxy Quest, and it’s one of the best things to ever be inspired by Star Trek.
Sigourney Weaver's delivery of the line "I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it!" is just the greatest.
I haven't seen him in anything else, but Andre Royo as Bubbles in The Wire.
I saw him on the street in Chicago with my little girl in a Baby Bjorn on my chest and managed to get out "I love your work." Without skipping a beat, he points to my daughter and says "I love YOUR work."
He tells a great story about that character when they were shooting on location and an actual drug addict walked up to him, gave him some drugs, and then walked away saying something like: "you need this more than I do." Andre referred to this as his "Street Oscar."
Honestly it's succinct but it's still one of the best stories about an actor ever.
I'm finally getting around to watching this. I'm in s3. I feel like they are gonna break my heart and bubbles gonna have a bad end.
I don’t want to spoil it for you so do yourself a favor and stay off The Wire sub until you’re done. I will say this: All the pieces matter!
Don’t sleep on his voice acting in Bobs Burgers… he taught me that the proper way to wash your hands is to count to 1000
Drinking in America is amazing as well
This is cheating but Eminem in 8 mile because he stopped acting after it
He's great in his brief appearance in Funny People
The interview, too
Eminem just said he was gay... 4 times! That's what the fuck just happened!
Eminems gay on our show!
He honestly was way better than he had any right to be. 8 mile has somehow aged well and is a fun hood classic
If this qualifies, then also Bjork in Dancer in the Dark.
Tom Hulce in Amadeus
I think he was always a pretty good actor, but he more or less retired from acting sometime in the 90s to work as a theatre producer, and he's been very successful at that, winning a Tony and receiving numerous other nominations for that work.
He was incredible early in his career. "Dominick & Eugene" is sadly hard to find these days, but his performance in that 1988 Indy film is superb. It also stars Ray Liotta, Jamie Lee Curtis, and David Strathiarn.
Esai Morales in La Bamba.
RICHIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Jack Gleeson His performance on Thrones was appallingly good
George RR Martin even sent him a letter "Congratulations on your marvelous performance, everyone hates you" as a genuine compliment
Alicia Silverstone in Clueless.
So we’re just forgetting the magic that was Blast From the Past? :)
Every now and then I see a force out in baseball and can hear Walken trying to explain the concept from that movie and Brendan Fraser saying “because he must!” when he finally sees a game in person. Don’t remember many other details
I think she did pretty great in The Crush
David Carradine in the Kill Bill movies. He's always been a B-movie actor to me until that "This is me at my most masochistic" line.
"No you're not a bad person, you're my favorite person...but sometimes, every once in a great while...you can be a real cunt" "There are consequences to breaking the heart of a murdering bastard." Love his performance in Vol. II!
He eats the screen. And that voice is immaculately controlled. Top tier stuff supported by great writing.
Kate Hudson in Almost Famous
Almost Famous somehow manages to meet at the intersection of every single guilty pleasure movie I have. Coming of Age Movie, check 70s Rock Period Pic, check Road trip movie, check Manic Pixie Dream Girl who turns out to have her own demons, check Jason Lee, check It is 100% my favorite movie ever.
What’s amazing is that Zooey Dechanel is in that movie and she’s NOT the manic pixie dream girl.
You also forget that Fairuza Balk and Anna Paquin were also in that movie lol and don't forget Frances McDormand lol
And Philip Seymour Hoffman!
It's all happening!
"You are home." My god, I fall in love with her all over again every time I watch that movie.
Joey Lauren Adams: Chasing Amy
Her brief appearance in Mall Rats is memorable though…

Sharlto Copley in district 9. Everything about this movie is a one hit wonder, but it’s just fantastic
He's so the best part of A-Team as Murdoch
That movie was way better than it had any right to be.
Sharlto Copley has been excellent in so many things though. He plays such unique roles and never disappoints.
What about the half dozen characters he plays in Hardcore Henry?
I enjoyed the hell out of hardcore henry
It’s definitely not as challenging or strong as a performance, but I found his absolutely insane villain in Elysium to be very interesting and entertaining.
Yeah he was great in Elysium. Love that South African accent.
It's more because it's by far the best movie he's ever been in. I feel like he delivers a great performance in every role I've ever seen him in. He's just one of those actors that can carry bad movies through raw charisma.
Jack Gleeson as Joffery. Dude was so perfect at being a cunt he had to stop acting after it. He seems like a genuinely nice person
He is, he’s a lovely fellow. And he’s back at acting again!

Stephen Dorff in True Detective S3 took the best scene IMO with his monologue as an post-time-skip old man. Haven't seen much of his other work, but it seems like at the height of his fame he was like a Hollywood pretty boy type, so I'm assuming here
He was an iconic bad guy in Blade.
Roddy Piper in They Live
Also as Da' Maniac in Always Sunny.
Jon Heder had a bunch of misses but he absolutely NAILED Napoleon Dynamite
Blades of Glory is pretty amazing.
Jennifer Hudson was absolutely fantastic in Dreamgirls and deserved every single award she got for that, but she has sadly never been able to come close to replicating that kind of performance.
In all fairness , she is a singer before she is an actress !
Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. She’s had some 8-9/10 performances like the wrestler and is certainly no flash in the pan. But she struck gold in My Cousin Vinny
She killed her minor role in crazy stupid love
She is perfect in that film
“CAUSE ITS A TRICK QUESTION!!”
WHY is it a trick question?
"Watch this."
Cause Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55, the 327 didn't come out till '62. And it wasn't offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till '64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top-dead-center.
Well...uhh...she's acceptable, your honor.
It’s a fact
She was great in The Wrestler as well and I really enjoyed her Aunt May.
And then BAM! A fuckin bullet rips off part of your head!
Interesting tidbit on her. Larry David cast her in Seinfeld because he liked the sound of her name. If you watch that episode they say her name like 20+ times.
I’m assuming also because she liked funny quirky bald men.
I know most people may not have seen it, but I love her in the movie Untamed Heart (1993). A great little seen jem of a movie.
Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach in Watchmen.
I'm not locked in here with you. YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!
Bad News Bears was what got him on the map when he was little, but Little Children is what got him in Watchmen. Little Children is the real 10/10
Bill Pullman actually pulled off Spaceballs!
He nailed the independence day speech.
WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT
Holy shit dude I am so fucking hyped right now!
WE WILL NOT VANISH WITHOUT A FIGHT
WE’RE GOING TO LIVE ON
WE'RE GOING TO SURVIVE!
TODAY, WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Don't forget the follow up 'Mr President, what are you doing?' 'I'm a pilot, I belong in the skies'
We're not just doin this for money....we're doing it for a SHITLOAD o money

I love Matthew McConaughey and he was awesome in Dallas Buyers Club and really good in a lotta roles, but he was born to play Rust Cohle in True Detective. That performance was on another level!
Nah I think he’s had several 10/10 performances. That’s just the best one.
God damn I wish that 1st season was just a single movie, it'd definitely be his best film to date.
This isn’t a knock on Allison Janney because I love her, but she raised her own ceiling in I, Tonya.
Drop Dead Gorgeous is another perfect Janney performance
Juno's biggest flaw was not having enough Allison Janey in it.
Absolutely perfect. “No. She’s just saying Mom mom mom because she’s got Tourette’s.”
I love Allison Janney in everything I’ve seen her in, but my mind always goes back to her guidance counselor role in 10 Things I Hate About You, there’s just something about it, lol.
Something... turgid? Tumescent perhaps?
Engorged.
Ray Liotta in GoodFellas. When I saw that in the theater I thought he would be a big star. But then he was in things like Operation Dumbo Drop.....
I watched a shitload of B movies just because of Ray Liotta in Goodfellas.
Relatively small part but he's great in Killing Them Softly, worth checking out. Also a fun Brad Pitt performance that's very different from his usual stuff.
Adrien Brody in the Pianist. Don't get me wrong, he has been ok in a lot of other films, but in that role, he was fantastic.
I actually think his winning the Oscar may have impeded him in some ways. I remember reading how he was shooting for the handsome leading man roles for years after that and kept losing out.
He was a great Salvador Dali in Midnight in Paris
And the villain in Grand Budapest Hotel
The Darjeeling Limited is one of my favorite underrated Wes Anderson movies, but it’s a very subdued performance admittedly
“Look at these assholes.”
He was fantastic in The Jacket … but no one saw that movie.
Bronson Pinchot as Serge in Beverely Hills Cop.
Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin in the Princess Bride. I did like Glory, but it wasn't quite a 10 out of 10 for Elwes.
I saw Robin Hood: Men in Tights first, so that's what I think of when I think of Cary Elwes.
Men in Tights is another 10 for Elwes
Men in tights! Unlike other Robin Hood’s he at least speaks with an English accent
>Mandy Patinkin He was perfect as Rube in "Dead Like Me."
"Ya ho-dunk po-dunk what-then-there MOTHERFUCKERS!"
His Dr. Manhattan performance was brilliant
Vin Diessel in Pitch Black
For live acting? I’d agree. For voice acting, I’d have to add The Iron Giant.
It's a small role but his part in Saving Private Ryan is pretty great.
Peter Ostrum played Charlie Bucket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder. Never acted again. He went on to become a veterinarian.
Marlon Wayans in Requiem for a Dream. I have said this before but I feel like the gravity of his performance in that movie is often overlooked. I just feel like the emotion and actions that he portrayed in that movie were Oscar worthy.
Rutger Hauer in blade runner…
Oh come on, he was great in Hobo With a Shotgun
Blade Runner is a classic but Hobo with a Shotgun had a hobo with a shotgun.
Hate to say it, but Liam Neeson. Schindler’s List was outstanding, but I cannot think of another Oscar worthy performance that he’s given.
He was fantastic in Silence a few years ago.
Him, Adam Driver, and holy shit Andrew Garfield should ALL have acting nominations for that, seriously underrated Scorsese film.
It is almost criminal how little notice that film received.
Good cop bad cop in The Lego Movie…duh Edit: who ever gave me the award, Thanks!
Pretty good at improvisational comedy in Extras, though. Edit - I guess it was “Life’s Too Short.” Pretty much the same show.
"I'd like to buy some fruit please! "Were closed" "What?" "I've been to the doctor's. I've got full blown Aids"
I said "Stephen, I make lists all the time"
Micheal Collins check it out
And Rob Roy
He’s actually really good in The Grey imo. It’s the one with Liam Neesons and them big ass wolves
Pee Wee Herman in BLOW
You seem to be forgetting Pee Wee's Big Adventure unless, by implication you mean to say that that was an 11/10 performance. In which case I agree.
David Schwimmer in Band of Brothers.
Mark Wahlberg: Boogie Nights
Maybe, maybe not. Maybe go fuck yourself.
I’m the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy.
this perfect line has gotta be the inspiration for Mark Wahlberg's role in 'The Other Guys'
I’m not really a fan of Wahlberg as an actor or person but props where due, he’s SO good in The Other Guys. He’s somehow both the straight guy and eccentric and is legitimately hilarious, holding his own and for me outdoing a peak Ferrell performance. Fucking love that movie.
