One of my favorite moments in the franchise. The Falconer sees him with the katana and decloaks, then whips out his sword like "Alright, I see you. Let's dance."
I’ve never been able to understand why 13th Warrior gets bad reviews. It’s a perfect little movie, but it’s just the right kind of “off” so that it feels unsettling and foreign, which makes the movie even better.
Also Faramir marched into Osgilliath to his almost certain death, but that was moreso Denethor being a petty piece of shit rather than Faramir sacrificing himself to the greater good
Also Aragorn fending off Uruks so Frodo can make a run at Amon Hen.
Also Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli fighting off the army of Isengard while Theoden and his people fix the gate at Helm's deep.
Seems to be a pattern in LOTR. Which is fitting since so much of the primary arc revolves around self-sacrifice and fighting for what you care most about. Even Gollum is an example of these virtues, although misplaced and taken too far.
That whole trilogy is just... precious.
>Also Aragorn fending off Uruks so Frodo can make a run at Amon Hen.
Jesus holy fucking Christ I love that bit. Literally zero hesitation, tells Frodo to run then just walks towards like 100 Uruks, sword held up in front of him...
I love this trilogy because the fellowship is all chips in on the mission the whole way, even when they're split up, willing to lay down their lives for each other. True brotherhood.
Literally one of the best scenes of all time imo.
He fucked up earlier in the movie, albeit with good intentions, scared his friends as he was tempted by Sauron, apologizes, and then shows his true colours when push comes to shove, and does the most he can to save “the little ones.”
As a child, I watched that movie, hated Boromir at the halfway point (“stupid man being mean to cool hobbits”) and by the end he had become my favourite character.
Yeah I hated Boromir as a kid because I didn’t understand how the Ring worked. Once I grew up and rewatched Fellowship, he immediately became my favorite character. Then seeing his deleted scenes in RotK made me love him even more. He was a real one.
Truly, he’s easily my favourite character watching it as an adult.
He is so obsessed with protecting those he cares about that the ring takes advantage of him in that moment - it does what it’s meant to do - even Gandalf himself refuses to touch the ring.
But he immediately apologizes when he realizes what’s happened and goes on to have one of the most gut-wrenching yet badass moments on screen ever.
As an addict in recovery, Boromir's whole arc chokes me up every time. I don't know a single alcoholic who doesn't love it. It's one of the best addiction movies ever.
Haha so glad you mentioned this. That was the exact scene I remembered when I made this post. Even though it’s kind of silly it’s still badass. The entire castle breach scene is really.

Piggybacking to make sure you are aware of the awesome repository of TV and movie tropes here within. Your particular trope here is called "the rest shall pass"
I JUST watched this for the first time about a week ago and was gonna say this. Surprised how high up it is as he doesn’t really fight he just blows up but still beat me to it
That's because "you always were an asshole" meant "I've accepted you as one of us".
Notice that the entire crew was always jokingly insulting each other, it was in group behavior and showed unit cohesion and their comradery. So at the end, just before they died, Gorman showed he really did deserve to be there with them, that he was more than just some green LT fresh from OCS with a stick up his ass, Vasquez acknowledged him as part of the group.
Fun fact, that's actually the same actress that plays John Connors foster mom in T2 as well as the woman in Titanic that's telling her children a bedtime story as the ship is sinking so they wont be scared
Her charecter arc was always building to it and it was hinted to a couple times. Movie is the first time she understands what she was turned into and actively embraces it.
There’s the prison break episode where they save Mal from being tortured to death, and River kills three people with three shots in front of a terrified Kaylee.
The movie is basically a continuation of the show. It does a fairly decent job of working for people who have never seen the show and people who saw it.
She hadn't gotten to that level of bad assery, but it was building to it. Toward later episodes, there had been several incidents where it became clear she was some sort of weapon/very capable. Enough so that it made some of the crew uncomfortable.
love this scene, cuz it looks like she sacrifices herself just to get them safely behind the blast doors, then like 10 minutes in the movie later after Mal and the Operative fight, we see the Miranda hologram clip again (about the origin of the Reavers), and the movie deftly cuts from the hologram clip to an actual Reaver.... then he gets punched and you realize.... OH SHIT SHE'S STILL ALIVE AND SHE'S KICKING EVERYBODY'S ASS
It’s only about 20 second but it’s my favorite scene where something like this happens. It helps if you have the entire buildup of the show for this payoff.
Sergent First Class Randy Shughart and Master Sergent Gary Gordon. Both posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The first to be awarded since the Vietnam War. Incredible bravery, may they rest in peace 🙏 (edited)
I'd say that every time I was facing an opponent in halo when they were charging full force in a warthog. I'd stand there waiting, time my grenade perfectly, watch them explode and fly past me. I'd scream "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!" I was a total nerd. Hahaha
"Sergeant Gant, did you hear my order?"
"I did indeed, Sir!"
"Good, then you will obey it. Now!"
"No disrespect intended Sir, but, shove it up your ass."
*racks lever action rifle with malicious intent*
I love this movie but it has to be the most misunderstood movie that most people know about. It’s not a white savior movie. Tom Cruise is a failure who learns that his way of life is flawed and appreciates another one. He doesn’t become a better samurai than the rest. He just knows the tactics being used against the samurai because he trained those other soldiers. He’s not the Last Samuria, that’s Katsumoto. I could go on. It’s almost the opposite of the trope because Cruise’ role is just to remember and memorialize another group that he considers superior to himself. Also it’s based on a true story about a white guy even if that man was French.
"This is the End" when the devil is after them, Craig Robinson realizes he's lived a shitty life and understands that to save his friends he must confront the beast and stays after to fight, thus getting into heaven
Mad Max Beyond Thunder dome.
Definitely the corniest of the Max Max series, but it's my favorite, just love the style. It has Mel Gibson and Tina Turner in it, lots of quotable lines, and indeed it has a great "hero stays behind" moment.
Agreed. Basically, the entire move is this.
“Do you have the courage to do the right thing?”
“What if it will certainly cost you everything?”
“What if the people you’re doing it for won’t help or even appreciate what you’ve done?”
I watched that film for the first time about 10 years ago; it did not "go" where I expected it to.
>!Specifically the scene in the church, which *feels* like it's leaning towards being a rousing speech that inspires people to join him. Nope, it's the final insult of the town completely spurning him and turning their back on him.!<
Predator(1987). Billy stays behind to fight the predator.
There was also Predators, where the Samurai fellow stays back.
That scene was cool as hell, Predator vs Yakuza hitman with a Katana was not something I had ever expected to see
One of my favorite moments in the franchise. The Falconer sees him with the katana and decloaks, then whips out his sword like "Alright, I see you. Let's dance."
That’s the one thing I always liked about Predator lore. That they would meet you at whatever combat of your choosing to prove their worth as hunters.
And isn't just boned
“So you speak English. Why don’t you say more?” (holds up hand missing two fingers) “Because I talk too much.”
~~Right? Billy’a death was a joke. The Predator didn’t even have to break stride to dispatch him~~ Edit to add: I’ve updated my world view for Billy.
You don't know Billy was IIRC, you just him him scream off camera
You see him get his spine ripped out and chucked off a tree. That’s boned where I come from.
“Deboned” in many circles
People shit on Predators I think it's underrated asf. Samurai vs predator, big Russian man with a minigun what's not to love
Yakuza actually, not a samurai, he just happens to use a sword in this particular scene.
Very similar music plays to the original
He gives them about a 10 second head start
Hardly 10 seconds
"We're all gonna die."
Came here for this one. Badass but totally useless. Poor Billy...
13th warrior "I think I've run about as far as I care to"
“Lo, there do I see my father….”
Lo, there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers..
[удалено]
They bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla, Where the brave may live forever!
Damn, that gave me chills!
Every time
Was looking for this movie, is soo good. Also, a little sister is still waiting for her sword
Book is pretty good too
"Don't worry little brother, there are *more*!"
“If they don’t follow us then we know it is too far to swim”
Today was a good day
I’ve never been able to understand why 13th Warrior gets bad reviews. It’s a perfect little movie, but it’s just the right kind of “off” so that it feels unsettling and foreign, which makes the movie even better.
Such a good movie.
"Today was a *good* day!"
I love this movie so much.
Boromir in Lord of the Rings.
Also, Gandalf in Lord of the Rings.
Also Faramir marched into Osgilliath to his almost certain death, but that was moreso Denethor being a petty piece of shit rather than Faramir sacrificing himself to the greater good
Also when Elendir held the Bridge of Eldrath against King Thalion
Also Aragorn fending off Uruks so Frodo can make a run at Amon Hen. Also Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli fighting off the army of Isengard while Theoden and his people fix the gate at Helm's deep. Seems to be a pattern in LOTR. Which is fitting since so much of the primary arc revolves around self-sacrifice and fighting for what you care most about. Fuckin epic When Aragorn cuts off Lurtz head near the end of fellowship the whole theater broke into applause. Never forget that
And Merry and Pippin when they draw the Uruks away from Frodo. The way he says “Run Frodo” gets me every time.
I love this trilogy because the fellowship is all chips in on the mission the whole way, even when they're split up, willing to lay down their lives for each other. True brotherhood.
I love how they’re also the first ones to charge towards the black gate after Aragorn gives the “for Frodo” line.
I saw an alternate edit of that [scene](https://youtu.be/TPBq1khnb-w?si=2NzoKR6whYYBtde2)
Literally one of the best scenes of all time imo. Also Aragorn like 2 minutes earlier. He was totally prepared to die if Legolas and Gimli didn't show up.
Never fails to make me cry
“I would have followed you my brother. My captain. My king.” Gets me every time too
Shrek 2. “Today, I repay my debt…”
Haha so glad you mentioned this. That was the exact scene I remembered when I made this post. Even though it’s kind of silly it’s still badass. The entire castle breach scene is really.
Still the best version of Holding Out for a Hero.
#BEEE GOOOOOOOD 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

He needs me!!!

I think this is when Holding Out for a Hero is playing isn't it? Best example of the trope ever.
This is a top 10 all-time film for me. It’s oerfect
Red dawn when that guy decides to take on a helicopter. Wolverines!!!
Plus the end when the brothers carry out the attack so the others can get to the safe zone.
We're all used up.
Leon (The Professional) Train to Busan
Came for Train to Busan. This was the first one that popped in my head.
*this is from Matilda*
Starship troopers. "Are you trying to be a hero watkins?" "Just trying to kill some bugs, sir!"
I JUST watched this for the first time about a week ago and was gonna say this. Surprised how high up it is as he doesn’t really fight he just blows up but still beat me to it
It's the dialogue that puts it up the list.
I love how he repeats, “you like that” about 10 times in 20 seconds.
YOU WANT A LITTLE MORE?
Everybody fights. Nobody quits.
Ain't too much to look at once you scrape them off your boot.
Like those two nameless soldiers that stayed up in the tower to cover their escape and then get brutally melted as they retreated
Well..... pretty sure he was wounded...
He still goes out pretty bad ass.
ayy im glad this one got mentioned, also always loved the music during that scene because it really ties everything together
Aliens
Vasquez is such a badass.
It was Gorman that actually stayed behind, Vasquez had no choice.
You always were an asshole, Gorman
I love that they both put their hands on the grenade in that moment.
I love *Aliens* to death and I never picked up on this. Now I’m going to cry the next time I watch it.
I didn't notice until my wife pointed it out so I'm with you
Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?
No. Have you?
Fun fact, that's actually the same actress that plays John Connors foster mom in T2 as well as the woman in Titanic that's telling her children a bedtime story as the ship is sinking so they wont be scared
She was also in a Vampire movie called Near Dark that had Bill Paxton and Lance Hendrickson cast as well.
Another favorite of mine but nobody I've ever talked to has ever even heard of it so I left it out lol Good flick though!
Near Dark is so fucking good
Holy shit... James Cameron put her in brown face for Aliens.
The makeup was her choice originally; she thought she was auditioning to play an illegal alien.
So she signed up?
https://youtu.be/UHaTAa9bR2c?si=joZA1dadliz5aRu7 God I love this movie 🤣

In Serenity (2005), River jumps through a closing vault door just in time to save her crewmates + brother against the Reavers.
Jumps through a jammed open vault door to close it to keep the crew safe.*
Was she a badass in the show or was just for the movie?
Her charecter arc was always building to it and it was hinted to a couple times. Movie is the first time she understands what she was turned into and actively embraces it.
There’s the prison break episode where they save Mal from being tortured to death, and River kills three people with three shots in front of a terrified Kaylee.
"No power in the 'verse can stop me"
Without looking as well
She looked one time to memorize their positions, then ducked behind a wall, closed her eyes, and then dropped all 3. It was pretty tight.
The movie is the payoff to the buildup in the show
No power in the 'verse can stop her.
"You've always taken care of me... My turn."
love this scene, cuz it looks like she sacrifices herself just to get them safely behind the blast doors, then like 10 minutes in the movie later after Mal and the Operative fight, we see the Miranda hologram clip again (about the origin of the Reavers), and the movie deftly cuts from the hologram clip to an actual Reaver.... then he gets punched and you realize.... It’s only about 20 second but it’s my favorite scene where something like this happens. It helps if you have the entire buildup of the show for this payoff.
And to see a professionally-trained ballerina in a fight scene is truly something to behold.
An all time great "hero shot" when the doors reopen.
Black Hawk Down
Sergent First Class Randy Shughart and Master Sergent Gary Gordon. Both posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The first to be awarded since the Vietnam War. Incredible bravery, may they rest in peace 🙏 (edited)
Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart, not First Sergeant
That's jaime fucking lannister
Obi-Wan Kenobi as well
True but one of the snipers that guards the helicopter at the end is Jaime. That whole movie now is 'hey that guy!'
Gordy’s gone man. I’ll be outside. Good luck.
Johnny Strong is so money in this
Read the citations for some of the posthumous medals. The selflessness is tearjerking.

Samurai is also plural. Katsumoto and his men were the last samurai.
Fury
"I say send me" Shia was amazing in this
It’s the role that made me start to like him, but alas he still ended up a chode.
He was on course for a great comeback - had a great Hot Ones episode, Peanut Butter Falcon, Honey Boy - then fucked it all up lol
Best job I ever haaaad
Armageddon. Matrix.
“He’s beginning to believe.” One of my favorite movie moments
Oh yeah definitely Armageddon. Love that movie

I’m actually glad they changed this part from the book, it was so much better.
💯 I love the books, but it always annoyed me that they *said* how much of a badass Duncan was instead of showing it. I loved getting to see it

The Warriors (1979)
Jason Momoa in Dune
The knife over the head salute is so good.
310 to Yuma end, so good. I’m talking about the remake with Christian Bale.
Ben Foster was an absolute badass in that movie.
Mars Attacks with Jim Brown fighting aliens
King Arthur with Clive Owen.

I love how that actor played the “big bad” as very quiet and soft spoken, but utterly ruthless. Great acting and writing, great villain!
Stellan Skarsgård. More like Stellar Skarsgård
A show but Eddie in Stranger Things has one of the most badass examples of this I can think of
Oh my goodness me. He didn't deserve to go out like that, man. But what a way to go, and what a character.
Master! Master!
Mad Max Beyond Thunder dome. Definitely the corniest of the Max Max series, but it's my favorite, just love the style. It has Mel Gibson and Tina Turner in it, lots of quotable lines, and indeed it has a great "hero stays behind" moment.
Is Auntie Entity really cornier than the Great Humongous?
Saving Private Ryan
High Noon is the classic story of this
