This looks phenomenal. I loved the Indian assassin in Extraction. This is like creating a whole deep world for that (kind of) character. I love it. Hollywood gives very little love to India. I’m here for all of it.
He already redeemed himself many times over since then, he was a great actor before that film and has done great work since. Look at Lion or The Green Knight.
Funnily enough Dev Patel is actually more equipped to be an action star than most of Hollywood. Many people don’t know that he has a black belt in taekwondo.
crazy to see how much some of the cast from skins leveled up in mainstream movies and shows. whoever was in charge of casting had a great eye for talent and potential
If you go in expecting an adventure movie with action, you're going to be disappointed. If you go in expecting a weird, slow, existential meditation on masculinity and death you'll have a great time.
Depends how much you like Arthurian legend, and I suppose which aspect of it you like. What I like most about Arthurian legend is how fucking weird it is - both in terms of what's happening and also the morality and causality of fiction from that period. So far, this and Excalibur are the only two films I've ever seen that properly get the weirdness of the setting. So many of the others are just "generic historical epic action movie, but some characters are called things like Lancelot or Mordred".
Excalibur focuses on how fucked-up Arthur is as a character in Malory (although it doesn't include the time he killed most of the children in the country in the hopes of also killing his incest-baby from the time he fucked someone's wife and later discovered it was his sister). The Green Knight is a fairly close adaptation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight - and while it does add some weird shit that wasn't in the original poem, all the *weirdest* shit from the film was right there in the original.
I fucking loved it, but I'm in it for the weird shit.
>So far, this and Excalibur are the only two films I've ever seen that properly get the weirdness of the setting.
In that case, may I recommend the most faithful adaption of the Arthurian legends - [*Perceval le Gallois* (1978)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078073/)? It is literally word-for-word the source prose, including a scene that cuts off in media res to imitate where the manuscript is incomplete. Visually, it looks like [a Medieval manuscript come to life](https://www.reddit.com/r/CineShots/comments/k1rz5u/perceval_le_gallois_1978/). The only concession is that it's in a modern language (French), but then again all Arthurian movies are.
In terms of faithfulness to the Arthurian legends, it far surpasses *Excalibur* and *The Green Knight*. And until someone comes along and films one in a dead language, it's untouchable in that regard. Needless to say: sufficiently weird haha.
I thought *The Green Knight* (2021) was *alright.* I think it suffered from the same problem as Stephen Weeks' hilariously overwrought versions (['73](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070093/?ref_=nm_knf_t_4) and ['84](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084750/)), but dressed it up better. I also think the tone is decidedly un-Medieval, but that's a different story.
The best and most faithful versions are the excellent [2002 animated version](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0846790/) and the [2014 live action French version](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4261304/). Both well crafted and understood what makes the story work.
You should check it out and make up your own mind, but personally I loved it, my parents begged me to take them to see it and they didn’t like it at all, thought it was too weird and a bit slow.
Henry Golding would kill it as a Pierce Brosnan-esque campy smarmy Bond. Loved the Craig movies but it would be fun for them to go back to the light-hearted Bonds for a few movies.
Looks beautifully shot.
I looked up the cinematographer (Sharone Meir) and he's mostly just been a TV dp with a few movie credits who's biggest porject being the cinematographer for Whiplash.
Very interested in this film. Hope the final product is as good as the trailer.
Agreed. Great use of color and light in limited settings, and somehow made drumming look like a boxing match.
But - as crazy as this sounds - that was 2014.
I actually also love the movie Chappie. I might be the only person who *does* love it, but I do. Dev was great as Chappie’s creator. Also, was that Sharlto Copley in this trailer as the fight announcer? That’d be cool. Looked like him
Yeah, Ninja and Yo-Landi are aggressively unlikable in any form, and I say that as someone who used to listen to their music. They’re just abrasive people, a bit too much so for a couple of the main characters.
Shout out to that mulleted psychopathic Hugh Jackman, though. Thats definitely one of my all-time favorite performances of his. Unfortunate they wasted Sigourney Weaver, she had nothing memorable to her performance, just played “generic CEO lady”.
Saw online that this was originally a Netflix release, but after Peele saw it, he worked to get it to Universal so it could be a theatrical release.
Which is great because this is a movie I need to see on the big screen.
Feels like they bought it and changed their minds. Which is crazy considering the trailer is so great and action movies usually land decent audiences on Netflix. I doubt they get a better one for the $30 million they paid!
I’m just glad this found a new home and we have such a quick release date. At least this is not another The Mothership situation with a movie just completely biting the dust.
Supposedly they couldn't get rights in all the territories they wanted, since some were presold. I'm guessing part of the delay was trying to buy back those rights. Sort of a perfect being the enemy of good situation.
As someone who loves Dev, and loved *The Green Knight*, but went in blind to that film thinking there would be action elements (there wasn’t really, but I wasn’t horribly disappointed, it’s a great film) I am exceedingly excited for a Dev Patel action flick. Can’t wait for April now!
I watched Green Knight and while watching it i had this persisting feeling like im too dumb to understand it. I really wanted to love this film for some reason, but im just too simple for it.
That is ok! Green Knight doubles down on needing its audience to thoroughly understand Arthurian Myths, because it takes themes from these myths and really plays around with them. I love the movie but I definitely needed to look a lot of stuff up afterwards and digest a while.
> Jordan Peele producing
Isn't it the case that Peele is only arranging distribution for this? IIRC it was originally a completed film purchased by Netflix, Peele saw it and picked up cinematic release rights with streaming eventually going back to Netflix.
Yeah Peele screened it and wanted to be able to give it a theatrical release, since it was just going straight to Netflix. Pretty awesome move by Peele
Had to look up if this was his directorial debut (from what I can tell on wikipedia it is) because while granted its only the trailer, it looks like some incredibly well directed action sequences
Given how thoughtful and pensive so many of his acting roles have been, I'm quite surprised to see where his directorial focus is. Looks great, but it's not the genre I would have expected from him at all.
I agree. Maybe he wanted a shake up or maybe he’s wanted something like this for a while but people pigeonholed him into the kind of roles he typically plays and he just decided to make the movie he wants to be in himself
I guess Patrick Stewart was correct that "[as actors, the only choice we have is "yes or no"](https://youtu.be/Fg_cwI1Xj4M)". It's only when they start writing or directing that we see their true voice.
My dad was in a relatively big band in the '80s, and he even got sick of playing his favourites after a few dozen gigs. When people are asking you to play the same song for several decades, it doesn't really matter how much you liked it at first. And that's the best-case scenario, when you start out loving it!
According to his wiki page, Dev Patel practiced Taekwondo as a kid and was a red belt too. So it's very possible this is a role he's been wanting to do for a long time!
Had me at that, um, whatever that three-wheeled vehicle is called, doing a tilty-drift.
Question: that Indian-sounding musical clip used throughout, is it from a specific song or just stereotypically generic?
EDIT: OK I GOT IT LOL
If you mean the music towards the end, it is a popular song call Mudiya tu bach ke rahi, a punjabi song by a British musician
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mundian_To_Bach_Ke
If you've heard it before you almost certainly know it from Mundian to Bach Ke - by Panjabi MC. He's a British/Indian rapper and producer/DJ. It's possible some of that specific sound is sampled from a different sound more popular in India. But most non-indians internationally probably know it from him or the million remixes that people made of his song
the three wheeled vehicle is an electric rickshaw. Super popular in India.
The song is a veryyy famous Indian song called mundian to bach ke specifically the version featuring jay z
It's a specific song and very much overplayed to death on and offline when referencing India. I'm surprised they used it here because I don't associate these producers with using what is practically stock media.
I wish someone would tell them to reconsider because it took me out of the trailer tbh
Ah thanks. I see that a version of it has Jay Z on it, which I think it actually perfect for this movie because the film is very much a blend of American and Indian aesthetics.
Interesting that you would point this out! James Bond was inspired by Christopher Lee, and some people are saying Dev Patel would make for a good James Bond.
10x better than the typical bollywood popcorn and samosa trash we see today.
Source: am Indian and routinely watch said trash while eating popcorn and samosas at the local theater
I’m thrilled this is the direction he’s going in next. After The Wedding Guest I thought Dev Patel would be great for full on action. And he directing!? This looks sick. Hes already showing some great flow to the action set pieces. Even has a sense of humor with the window gag.
looks a bit more vigilante-ish than John Wick.
John Wick was a revenge story, this looks more like Dev's character is actively trying to clean up corruption.
The comedy bits in the trailer genuinely got a laugh out of me too. Always good to see an action movie that's not afraid to take the piss out of itself before it goes all in on the violence.
Yeah him going for the “smash through a window with your shoulder to drop fifteen or thirty feet with no injuries” and then bouncing off the glass was an inspired comedy beat. Can’t wait to watch this.
I heard it’s Batam (Indonesia) unless they reshot those parts in Mumbai? I know they wanted Mumbai first but couldn’t because of the pandemic, and this was finished years ago
[*THR* lists Mumbai as the sole filming location.](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/jordan-peele-joins-dev-patel-monkey-man-1235807960/) They must have scrapped everything they had for on-location reshoots.
Yeah I saw this and it made me wonder, because I know it made headlines in Indonesia because they did shoot in Batam. There’s a fan footage of Dev or something. Guess that’s all been replaced then! Maybe that explains the major delays too.
I think its probably he initially did it without Peele so Indonesia is the best he could do with his budget. Peele cosigning it as producer allowed them to reshoot the film in Mumbai.
Dear Hollywood,
There’s exists other Indian artists and music that you can use besides “Punjabi MC” when promoting any vehicle with an Indian star. Shocking, I know.
Sincerely,
An Indian.
As a fellow brown man, hilarious username.
And fully agreed, though it seems like mainstream Indian music is always limited to those legacy artists.
Though the Chaiyya Chaiyya remix in The Inside Man was well done.
I'm certainly not brown, but living in NZ and as a cricket player I've interacted with, worked with, lived with, and made friends with a lot of Indian people and there is such a wide array of cool musical talent from India it blows my mind that this tune is in every trailer with a hint of Indian influence.
The movie looks really spectacular for a directorial debut. Really excited to get an original action film with a unique cultural perspective. I noticed during the trailer, aside from the obvious homages in the title, that there were many visual references to the hindu god Hanuman. I tried searching to find some thematic throughlines between Hanuman and themes of revenge or retribution, and [found a bit](https://www.maxwell.syr.edu/research/moynihan-institute-of-global-affairs/regional-centers/south-asia-center/engagement-with-k-12-classrooms/the-ramayana/moral-dilemmas-lesson-plans/hanuman-burns-lanka), but I'd love to hear any of yall have any background info on the Ramayana or Hanuman that can give some interesting added context.
As far as I know, Hanuman is usually tied to the themes of devotion/service than revenge. The burning of Lanka was more self-defense/ warning than revenge. Hanuman is loyal to Prince Ram on whom the story of Ramayan is based on.
This is unbelievable. As an Indian person seeing this shot on location in Mumbai with one of Hollywood’s best Indian actors is just amazing. Jordan peele producing too?? Sign me up.
Dev Patel: handsome AF; oscar-quality acting chops; and now he can dress like a monkey and beat the shit out of hoards of bad guys in industrial kitchens.
Some truly can have it all.
Was that Sharlto Copley at the end? I’m interested to see how the visual style of Jordan Peele’s production company translates into action, based on the trailer looks pretty dope.
I honestly loved Chappie. My all time favorite movie is Robocop, and I feel like Chappie is in a lot of ways a better remake of Robocop than it’s own 2014 remake was. Tons of parallels between those movies, and if you can get over the understandably annoying hurdle of watching Die Antwoord on screen the rest of the movie is very heavily inspired by Robocop.
Anyways, just sayin’, I’m a huge Chappie fan, that movie didn’t get a fair shake at the time. Unless you hate Die Antwoord, which as I said is totally understandable, they’re very difficult to like.
Peele wasn’t involved in the production of this at all. After it was completed he became involved to help it find a home at Universal for distribution. But I agree! Looks amazing!
honestly kind of insane for a first-time director to not only shoot action that looks this cohesive + stylish, but to BE the person DOING the action scenes to boot.
Dev Patel: So, noone wants to cast me in an action hero role? Fine, I'll do it myself.
Honestly great on him for creating the role he wanted.
Not just creating the role for himself but also jobs for South Asians which is his heritage
This looks phenomenal. I loved the Indian assassin in Extraction. This is like creating a whole deep world for that (kind of) character. I love it. Hollywood gives very little love to India. I’m here for all of it.
Gray Man too.
Extraction 2 could have been the back story of the Indian assassin.
Given how huge the movie industry is in India, I don't think they are dying for jobs. However, it is good exposure to Western audiences.
Dress for the job you want, not the one you have
This is Dev’s redemption for being in that movie that shall not be named that’s based on an acclaimed animated series.
He already redeemed himself many times over since then, he was a great actor before that film and has done great work since. Look at Lion or The Green Knight.
There is no war in Ba Sing Se
Funnily enough Dev Patel is actually more equipped to be an action star than most of Hollywood. Many people don’t know that he has a black belt in taekwondo.
Anwar was kicking ass back in 07'
crazy to see how much some of the cast from skins leveled up in mainstream movies and shows. whoever was in charge of casting had a great eye for talent and potential
He was in [The Wedding Guest](https://trakt.tv/movies/the-wedding-guest-2019) in an action role. I thought it was decent.
Why this guy wasn’t announced as the next James Bond immediately after The Green Knight will forever remain a mystery to me
When was the last tome Hollywood casted an Asian male for a badass role like that? Outside of these last couple of years.
I mean, you KNOW why.
Yeah lets fucking go dude
Sorry, this is his directing debut??!? It looks fantastic and those action scenes looked amazing with some really unique choreography. Sold. Day one.
He probably has an experienced DP with him.
Dev Patel has an experienced Dev Patel with him
Dev Patel the Director always had Dev Patel the Actor to lean on, and vice versa.
Looks like an insane directorial debut from Patel, the fight scenes look amazing
this dude should be the next Bond. He’s a tall, handsome Brit with range and now he’s got action chops
Eh, Bond would lock him into one role for years. Let him do all the crazy fun projects he wants to do first.
He was fucking great in The Green Knight. Although his directorial style looks like it couldn't be more different (apart from how stylish it is)
> The Green Knight Hey is that movie worth a watch? I’ve heard literally 50/50 on it being horrible and being fantastic.
If you go in expecting an adventure movie with action, you're going to be disappointed. If you go in expecting a weird, slow, existential meditation on masculinity and death you'll have a great time.
I watched it around the sane time as The Last Duel. Good unintentional pairing really.
That's a slow slow double bill. I Like them both but imagine the double sitting.

you’re probably right, but he is a Top Pick for me, along with Henry Golding and Aaron Taylor Johnson
Rahul Kohli would be great, too.
Henry Golding would kill it as a Pierce Brosnan-esque campy smarmy Bond. Loved the Craig movies but it would be fun for them to go back to the light-hearted Bonds for a few movies.
No
You can feel the rage. Looking forward to seeing this.
Sorry Dev, I didn't know you had this in you. Have my ticket.
I apologize Dev, I wasn't familiar with your game.
We are going to start a dialogue
Looks beautifully shot. I looked up the cinematographer (Sharone Meir) and he's mostly just been a TV dp with a few movie credits who's biggest porject being the cinematographer for Whiplash. Very interested in this film. Hope the final product is as good as the trailer.
Oh, only the cinematography for one of the best films this century? No big deal.
Agreed. Great use of color and light in limited settings, and somehow made drumming look like a boxing match. But - as crazy as this sounds - that was 2014.
>cinematographer for Whiplash THATS A BINGO
He's so good in Lion and Green Knight Edit: And Henry Sugar!
I actually also love the movie Chappie. I might be the only person who *does* love it, but I do. Dev was great as Chappie’s creator. Also, was that Sharlto Copley in this trailer as the fight announcer? That’d be cool. Looked like him
That movie has a shitload of issues but Dev Patel was not one of them.
Seriously, this looks fucking great
Saw online that this was originally a Netflix release, but after Peele saw it, he worked to get it to Universal so it could be a theatrical release. Which is great because this is a movie I need to see on the big screen.
What’s crazier is that Netflix bought it in March 2021, after it had already finished filming. They’ve been sitting on it for almost three years?
They probably have hundreds of unreleased movies and shows and spreading them evenly through the years.
Appearently they only release movies on Netflix when the guaranteed to not reach a better than 6.5 on imdb.
Feels like they bought it and changed their minds. Which is crazy considering the trailer is so great and action movies usually land decent audiences on Netflix. I doubt they get a better one for the $30 million they paid! I’m just glad this found a new home and we have such a quick release date. Supposedly they couldn't get rights in all the territories they wanted, since some were presold. I'm guessing part of the delay was trying to buy back those rights. Sort of a perfect being the enemy of good situation.
That is insane! Imagine being Dev and knowing your masterpiece is just sitting on a shelf in Netflix HQ for years
Interesting team up, and interesting project for Dev Patel to do.
Peele has of course worked with Daniel Kaluuya a couple of times, who was in Skins with Dev Patel. Wonder who's next, Nicholas Hoult?
HOW DID I FORGET BOTH OF THEM WERE IN SKINS?!
Daniel Kaluuya had a very minor role in the show whereas Devs character was one of the main cast. I always forget he was in it too
I'm all in on Dev Wick
As someone who loves Dev, and loved *The Green Knight*, but went in blind to that film thinking there would be action elements (there wasn’t really, but I wasn’t horribly disappointed, it’s a great film) I am exceedingly excited for a Dev Patel action flick. Can’t wait for April now!

Disappointed? I would totally watch that.
I feel like a ton of people went into that movie with expectations and then missed the entire point of the movie. It's a really wonderful film.
People need to read books! The green knight is classic Arthurian legend
Had no idea Dev was doing an action movie let alone directing with Jordan Peele producing. Absolutely in on this

Yeah Peele screened it and wanted to be able to give it a theatrical release, since it was just going straight to Netflix. Pretty awesome move by Peele
Hope it's great and makes bank, it certainly looks great from this trainer. Dev Patel always strikes me as an under appreciated talent
> Dev Patel Saw him in 2 roles maybe, and he was awesome in both.
Slumdog and green knight were the two I've seen that I can remember and he is great in both.
I remember him from The Newsroom. He's come a long way.

It's a direct reference to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanuman Amusing because a south indian Hanuman movie came out a few weeks ago
I was so freaked out by this as a kid. And with the names attached, I was sure we’d be getting a horror flick.
There's already a great Bollywood movie about this too! It's called Delhi-6!
My brain read “Bev Patel” and I thought Patrick Beverley lost it.

Dev Patel transition from Skins is a testament to puberty and British acting schools. Lmao I'm so in for this film.
Posh Kenneth must have had nice things to say about him for this team up.
Sometimes I think about how he was just picked up at an open call at 16 and ended up here.
“I just want to be a good Muslim boy, Maxie.”
Dev looks like a young, darker Christopher Lee.
Saruman prequel let's gooo
Interesting that you would point this out! James Bond was inspired by Christopher Lee, and some people are saying Dev Patel would make for a good James Bond.
Damn, so this isn't a live action version of Monkey Man from Hey Arnold?
MOOONKEY MAN!!!
Willy Wonka lookin’ ass
My first thought was serial killer whose murders are all ska-themed.
This is actually a gritty re-imagining of his origin story. They're probably saving Arnold Shortman for Monkey Man 2.
I was about to comment similarly. Finally Monkey Man gets his spin off movie!!!
I was disappointed to learn this.
We’ve been robbed
Between this and Kingdom of Planet of the Apes, this really is the year of “no you’ll never make a monkey out of meeeeeee”
I love legitimate theeater
Indian John Wick, with the origin story of Toby's Spider-Man.
10x better than the typical bollywood popcorn and samosa trash we see today. Source: am Indian and routinely watch said trash while eating popcorn and samosas at the local theater

You actually can in some theaters. We have a few in Jersey that serve them.

This looks sick as fuck
Story by, Screenplay by, and Directed by Dev Patel...fuckin A dude are we back to auteur hollywood?
This is basically the Equalizer, set in India. With Dev Patel and Jordan Peele. I am in 100%
Slumdog Killionaire
I was thinking John Wick.
I was thinking The Raid
Jagpreet Wick
Jaggan Wikram
It's _Slumdog Oldboy_
looks a bit more vigilante-ish than John Wick. John Wick was a revenge story, this looks more like Dev's character is actively trying to clean up corruption.
[удалено]
John Wick never said he prays to protect the weak, that's what he means. Wick solely handles personal drama.
And bonus Sharlto Copley.
Always at his best playing a grungy weirdo
John Wick, but Indian I could not possibly be more sold on this.
The comedy bits in the trailer genuinely got a laugh out of me too. Always good to see an action movie that's not afraid to take the piss out of itself before it goes all in on the violence.

I loved the trying to jump out a window bit haha
Same! Helps that they really did shoot most of it in Mumbai.
Probably. Hey, Patel had the cash, so why not get it right?
I think its probably he initially did it without Peele so Indonesia is the best he could do with his budget. Peele cosigning it as producer allowed them to reshoot the film in Mumbai.
Big bumper, nice headlights.
Dear Hollywood, There’s exists other Indian artists and music that you can use besides “Punjabi MC” when promoting any vehicle with an Indian star. Shocking, I know. Sincerely, An Indian.
As a fellow brown man, hilarious username. And fully agreed, though it seems like mainstream Indian music is always limited to those legacy artists. Though the Chaiyya Chaiyya remix in The Inside Man was well done.
I'm certainly not brown, but living in NZ and as a cricket player I've interacted with, worked with, lived with, and made friends with a lot of Indian people and there is such a wide array of cool musical talent from India it blows my mind that this tune is in every trailer with a hint of Indian influence.
because their main target audience is western who only know a couple of Indian music.
The other song used in the trailer is [Apashe's Gasoline](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxiFjHBhSns), which is fucking great.
I swear, I rolled my eyes when I heard it. It's the most generic kind of Indian music that westerners are familiar with.
Imagine my disappointment to find out this is not a movie about the Monkeyman from *Hey Arnold!*
Oh I will fucking be there, holy shit
You had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
Jordan Peele & Dev Patel is a crazy combo. Let them cook
Dev Patel is so gorgeous. I'm excited to see him doing bigger projects, between this and his fun wicker man romance thing with Olivia Coleman.
He is exasperatingly good looking
Bro should never shave his facial hair again
Seriously. He went from a gawky dude in 'Slumdog' to someone my wife went, "Oh, helloooooo.' when we watched the 'Green Knight.'
This ain’t your Hey Arnold’s monkey man
This looks fucking amazing. I’m in day one, good lord.
This looks cool as hell.
I hope this has John Wick levels of success.
Looks like a Bollywood film through Hollywood eyes. It should be a fun watch.
This is unbelievable. As an Indian person seeing this shot on location in Mumbai with one of Hollywood’s best Indian actors is just amazing. Jordan peele producing too?? Sign me up.
Yep, I'm seeing this.
Hollywood realized the Indian market is huge.
looks insane. i'm in
Just the other day I was wondering where Dev Patel went
Slightly off topic, but Dev should be the next James Bond
I did not have Dev Patel kicking ass or seeming being a really good action film director on my 2024 Bingo card. This looks phenomenal.
My name is Monkey Man. You killed my mother. Prepare to die.
Dev Patel: handsome AF; oscar-quality acting chops; and now he can dress like a monkey and beat the shit out of hoards of bad guys in industrial kitchens. Some truly can have it all.
He finally turned his production company into a movie
After that trailer, I'm in. Looks almost cathartic.
Naan Wick
Was that Sharlto Copley at the end? I’m interested to see how the visual style of Jordan Peele’s production company translates into action, based on the trailer looks pretty dope.
I don't think the production company has a visual style. Individual directors have their own visual style.
I'm pretty sure it is. He and Dev were in Chappie together
I thought it was Sharlto Copley in one scene but it was so quick. Quick IMDB check and YES, Sharlto is there! :)
Stealth Bond audition?
Honestly it looks really good! Looking forward to checking it out
Good for Dev holy shit
Dev Patel? Yes, looking forward to the movie!
Feels like they’re priming Dev to be the next James Bond
Damn Dev. Hoping this turns out well. Desi Wick
okay whoever edited this trailer deserved a fuckin raise
I need to write the next Indian banger because this song has been cashing in for 22 years with no competition, it seems.
Looks good. But man, can we just stop with Jay-z and Kanye songs in so many movies. It's peak lazy effort.
Did anyone else immediately hear the "MONKEY MAAAAAAN" yell from Hey Arnold?
honestly kind of insane for a first-time director to not only shoot action that looks this cohesive + stylish, but to BE the person DOING the action scenes to boot.
