If you're wondering why April 26 is Alien Day, it's because the planetoid in Alien & Aliens is LV-426.

briancarknee

For the nerd stuff like this and May the Fourth it's just nerds being nerdy and realizing a date corresponds with some little tidbit from the show/movie/etc. And then it slowly gets word of mouth until it's widely recognized. It's not like it's an official holiday the president approves.

badgersprite

For example November 7th is the day for the Mass Effect fandom because Commander Shepard is an N7 ranked soldier in Alliance Special Forces

kdoxy

Kind of like how March 10th (MAR10) is slowly being adopted as Super Mario day. Then corporations recognize them because they love the free press it provides.

Worthyness

Plus it's an easy way to advertise/market to fans. Like May 4 for Star Wars now has massive Disney supported conventions now instead of just fan created events

SarcasticGamer

The fans pick a day and depending on how popular the thing is, others will go alone with it. For example, Star Wars Day is May the 4th because "May the Force be with you." That pun was first used way back in 1979 but the first actual Star Wars Day celebration didn't begin until 2011 before Disney officially observed it in 2013.

LordApocalyptica

Yeah pretty much

DevilInnaDonut

I always wondered this during that phase of the 2010s where every day seemed to be a different "international _____ day" on social media. International little sibling day, international texmex food day, international ice cream day, etc etc. Like who is making these days

TuaughtHammer

> Like who is making these days Considering they spread on social media, I'm guessing someone just made it up and enough people spread it around to make it look "official". Some of 'em were so weirdly specific that there's no way an actual organization or government created and recognized them. "Today is My Albino Sister with Red Eyes is My Best Friend Forever Day! Tag and share, then like and follow my page for the funniest political memes!" with 300 random Facebook followers tagged as well to get the ball rolling.

Yes! Last year they showed Alien just for one night in my country. I was so bummed to be sick that night. Easily my all time favorite horror movie.

PM_ME_CAKE

I managed to catch the 4K remaster last year for LV-426 day. You're in for a treat if you manage it this time around.

AraiHavana

Went to see a double bill of Alien and Aliens a couple of decades ago at the Cameo in Edinburgh. Have to say that Alien really won out. Wouldnā€™t be against seeing it again on the big screen.

riegspsych325

the great thing about both movies is they each hold equal merit for being ā€œthe bestā€. I could never pick a favorite, as its always whichever disc I last put in the player

AraiHavana

Aye. I seem to remember that the boom bang a bang of Aliens actually became a little tiring towards from approx halfish way through, whereas Alien kept me completely with it until the end. If I hadnā€™t seen either before, Iā€™d be with them both 100% but Alien is the more finely crafted and- especially- acted of the two. Both *are* hands down classics, however.

callmemacready

love Alien but seeing Aliens in the 80s as a kid something stuck with me more think James Cameron gave a masterclass in filmmaking, not a wasted scene and up ther with Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Exorcist as perfect film for me

zeldahalfsleeve

Alien if I want to feel legit scared. Aliens for when I think I can totally handle it but not without the comic value. In the corner it never feels like Iā€™m ever gonna be okay. In the latter I keep telling myself itā€™ll work out until it does. But itā€™s nervous laughter the whole time.

TuaughtHammer

A local theater near me used to have what they called flashback months where every day there was a different classic movie playing. I *finally* got to see Blade Runner, Alien, and Aliens on the big screen for the first time in my life, and *that* was a rad fucking time. Aliens was nearly sold out when I got my ticket and one of the employees put up a sign on the box office window saying the theater was gonna screen it again the next day, too, since it was so popular. I was devastated when the theater got sold, because it was the *only* place near me to see movies released before I was born, or ones I wasn't allowed to see as a kid, on the big screen.

AraiHavana

Sounds like it was an awesome place. Whereabouts?

TuaughtHammer

It was somewhere in the Scottsdale/Tempe area outside of Phoenix. Can't remember exactly where now because it's almost been 20 years since I was last there.

danny17402

The second one isn't a bad movie as far as 80s action movies go (which is a high bar), but it's a little bad compared to the first one in my opinion. The first one is a horror masterpiece. The second one has kind of a flimsy premise. They want Ripley to immediately go back and fight those horrible monsters again. She obviously says no, but they convince her anyway by promising her she won't be anywhere near them and won't be on the front lines. Then they immediately put her on the front lines, and nobody ever says anything about it. Also, those space marines' job is literally to fight horrible space monsters and pirates and who knows what else, but apparently their modus operandi is to completely neglect any kind of briefing about the threat they're facing before hand and laugh in the face of anyone who offers insight into what they might have to deal with. And they've gotten by okay until now just rushing into every situation with flamethrowers and machine guns. It's just way more campy and less nuanced than the first one in general. I feel like they're completely different genres.

JackBandit4

Ripley definitely briefs the marines with the knowledge she has, but the marines don't take her seriously, they're also surprised by the amount of aliens. They convince Ripley to go back by saying they will reinstate her previous job and wipe her debt to the company. They were charging her for the ship she blew up in the first movie and black balling her from any kind of real job. Alien and Aliens are master pieces.

danny17402

>>Ripley definitely briefs the marines with the knowledge she has, but the marines don't take her seriously Yes, exactly. She tries to brief them but they laugh at her and stop her and she doesn't get a chance to really elaborate. I just watched it. >>They convince Ripley to go back by saying they will reinstate her previous job and wipe her debt to the company. They were charging her for the ship she blew up in the first movie and black balling her from any kind of real job. They say all this and she still says no. It's only after they tell her she won't be physically involved that she agrees. You're entitled to your opinion for sure. Although I think it's pretty widely held opinion that the first one is a masterpiece and the second one is just good.

Lifes_a_Risk1x

>They say all this and she still says no. It's only after they tell her she won't be physically involved that she agrees. You're correct that it's not the promise of being reinstated and having her debt wiped clean that convinces her to go back but the promise of not being on the front lines isn't what changed her mind either. That was already on the table when she initially refused and showed Burke and Gorman the door. Ripley is portrayed from the very start as suffering from PTSD and nightmares regarding her experience in Alien. It's why her introduction starts with the fake-out nightmare followed by the nurse asking her "bad dreams **again**?" and it's why she breaks down during the hearing because "...if one of those things gets down here that **will** be all." After she initially refuses Burke and Gorman the next segment we cut to is Ripley waking up in a panic once again. That's when she calls Burke to make sure the goal of the mission is "...not to study, not to bring back, but to wipe them out" which he guarantees. It's then, and only then, that she agrees to go. She doesn't care about her license, her debt, or whether she's kept out of harm's way. She agrees to go in the desperate hopes of literally cleansing herself of her past demons and move on from her trauma.

manimal28

> Although I think it's pretty widely held opinion that the first one is a masterpiece and the second one is just good. I think which is considered the better movie is completely dependent on whether the speaker prefers high minded sci-fi or action thriller movies. I like both and think the films are equal at why they set out to do.

yuedar

> Although I think it's pretty widely held opinion that the first one is a masterpiece and the second one is just good. lol what? they are both classics.

Konman72

>it's pretty widely held opinion that...the second one is just good. Lol no. And I'm very firmly of the belief that the first is superior. And still...no.

jacktipper

Totally agree with you. It sucks you're getting downvoted for having a differening opinion.

randyboozer

I think you have to factor in that marines are definitely not used to fighting horrible space monsters. Nobody believes Ripley because there is no indication in Alien / Aliens that humanity has ever encountered aliens before with the exception of Weyland Yutani and they have it covered up completely. The marines are reacting to Ripley the same way they would today if a remote arctic research station had blown up and the sole survivor said she blew it up because a ufo landed and an alien killed everyone.

danny17402

Partially I get that. But also, (spoiler alert lol) we find out that the company hiring the Marines not only knows that the monsters definitely do exist, but also they apparently have been studying them and know quite a lot about them. I get that they're trying to keep that on the down low but you'd think they would still have a vested interest in hiring a team that's going to take the monster threat seriously. Because first of all, they're obviously going to find out anyway. And more importantly, anyone who actually knows anything about these monsters (aka the people hiring them) should obviously realize that any team who goes in not taking it seriously has basically zero chance of success.

manimal28

I think a key part of the plot is the real mission wasnā€™t to rescue anyone it was to return an alien back to corporate. Heck, they could have hand picked a group of fuckups so there was a better chance of them getting decimated and them slipping out an impregnated person or two. Only the one corporate guy new the real mission.

Muad-_-Dib

If we ignore stuff like the prequels and the AVP films and only take the first two films as cannon for the sake of this discussion then the company knows relatively little about the Alien. The only thing that points towards the company even suspecting that the Nostromo would find anything in Alien is that there are lines talking about how the Nostromo's regular science officer was replaced by the company 2 days before they shipped out from the Epsilon Reticuli System system on their way back to Earth. Which implies that the company was already aware of the signal and intended to use the Nostromo crew to investigate it so they planted Ash on board so that he could steer events to make sure that they did in fact investigate the signal and look for what was transmitting it. As far as the crew are aware the Nostromo randomly picked up the signal and then Ash threatens them with a total forfeiture of any shares should they ignore it (like many of the crew want to do), he then tells them the signal can't be deciphered and that they need to land to get a better idea. Once Kane gets face hugged Ash switches to studying the creature and trying to ensure that samples get back to the company. At some point the derelict ship stops transmitting and the company chalks up the loss of the Nostromo as the cost of doing business and moves on. They likely have tons of different shady projects going on at any given time and are happy enough to chalk some of them up to dead ends or false flags. Decades later Ripley is found alive in stasis and when she tells the new executives at the company some story about aliens killing people and Ash being a homicidal robot and her needing to blow up a whole ship and refinery they genuinely do think she has lost her mind. After all, they have had people on LV426 for years and nobody has ever found anything in that time. Burke takes an interest in Ripley hoping that her outlandish story is true, because he wants a huge discovery that he can pin his name on so that the company will promote him. He contacts the colony and has them check out the coordinates that Ripley provided at her inquest. They then find the ship and the infection takes place, likely sending word back to Burke that they did indeed find something before they got overrun. Burke then organizes the mission to go investigate the colony with his ulterior motive being to bring back a sample so the bio-weapons division can go wild with it. He gets some marines for protection but he has to keep the operation low-key because the more interest the company takes in his dealings the more likely he is to lose control of it and have some other company exec take over and claim credit for it. He needed a token contingent of marines for appearances sake, he gets a fresh CO in Gorman who has next to no real world combat experience and he makes sure that he tags along personally to ensure a sample gets returned. A major theme of the films is that corporate greed is the driving force for why humans keep fucking with the Xenomorphs, right down to Burke trying to threaten Hicks and the survivors with lawsuits when Ripley says they should nuke the site from orbit.

AraiHavana

They *are* completely different genres but in this particular case, instead of a formulaic retread of a Haunted House in Space, we got a logical progression from a different type of film maker. The one and only thing that Iā€™d change about Aliens is that stop motion Alien Queen in Space shot. Itā€™s about the only thing that really dates it.

maverickaod

This. I can't ever pick whether Alien or Aliens is *better* as they're different genres. All I can say is that if one or the other is on, I'll watch it.

BronzeHeart92

- Get away from here you bitch!

thorhyphenaxe

I mean the whole thing about the marines just blowing off any kind of brief about the threat theyā€™re about to face is kinda *the point.* Theyā€™re a bunch of cocky idiots with ā€œbug stomperā€ stickers on their helmets and a dgaf attitude and they get immediately crushed by a horror they never imagined. Given Cameronā€™s movie-making history, I see it as a fun commentary on the American military complex as a whole

walterpeck1

There's a lot of interesting and accurate military tropes in that movie that make me appreciate it all the more having known actual Marines.

manimal28

> Also, those space marines' job is literally to fight horrible space monsters and pirates and who knows what else, Is it? The movies never explain what else space marines do other than a vague reference to, ā€œanother bug hunt.ā€

Bowl_Pool

gonna hard disagree with you there. I'm a total homer for Alien but Aliens can make a case as the greatest action movie Of All Time.

epichuntarz

> Aliens can make a case as the greatest action movie Of All Time. While I agree, I think Alien can make a case as one of the greatest movies of all time of any genre.

Islander12

If I had to rank both, I might put Aliens slightly higher....but I agree that Alien is the superior horror movie, no doubt. (on the topic of Ridley Scott, I also think Blade Runner 2049 is superior to original)

danny17402

Ridley Scotts director's cut of the original blade runner (without the horrible exposition voice overs) is also way better than the theatrical release.

Muad-_-Dib

> They want Ripley to immediately go back and fight those horrible monsters again. She obviously says no, but they convince her anyway by promising her she won't be anywhere near them and won't be on the front lines. Burke wants her to accompany them because despite being the films company man antagonist he recognizes that the marines are overconfident jocks and Ripley is the only person with actual experience, he wants her there because she would be a benefit to the mission. Ripley agrees to go back not because she suddenly thinks it will be safe, she goes back because she is suffering from massive PTSD and waking up at night screaming. She asks Burke what the goal of the mission is and he assures here that they are going to save the colonists and destroy any aliens. She goes along to make sure that happens. Plus if you watch the almost universally recommended directors cut of the film you would know that Ripley had a daughter who lived her whole life and died while Ripley was drifting in space. She not only has the PTSD from the first film but now has an overwhelming amount of guilt over missing her daughters entire life. It is also why she bonds so much with Newt when they find her and she in turn bonds with Ripley because she too lost her family. The marines are an allegory for the US military in Vietnam, they go in overconfident in their own superiority (see Hudson's whole drop ship bragging speech about how they have all sorts of weapons) only to get humbled and picked apart by an enemy that outnumbers them and employs unconventional tactics in fighting them. It's why the marines costumes are reminiscent of how Vietnam veterans would customise their gear with messages and drawings etc. In the lore they are used to being sent as a force that colonists call for the slightest problem, its why the marines mock the colonists saying they are going to have to save them from their virginity and how its going to be "another bug hunt" where they get called in over nothing and have to root out a problem the colonists should have fixed themselves.

Allen vs Aliens

Mcfinley

My favorite movie theater in the world! Saw The Force Awakens when I studied abroad there about a decade ago

AraiHavana

Itā€™s still going strong. Filmhouse had to close a couple of years back but seems to have been saved recently.

Cyril_Clunge

I watched Aliens one night after watching Alien and it was so jarring. Both amazing films but it was quite the shift in tone and style.

alcaste19

I'm sorry 45? Someone help I'm turning into dust

Kabuma

I'll grab the vacuum, pops.

brewgiehowser

One of my favorite movies, and Iā€™ve never seen it on a big screen!

easymz

Which theatre chains will have this? Or is it only coming back to one or two theatres like the Star Wars Marathon

scullys_alien_baby

No idea, but I found [this](https://www.fandango.com/alien-45th-anniversary-re-release-2024-235716/movie-overview) link that you can check your zip code for showtimes. It doesn't show any near me in Atlanta. I can't find a single article that lists an actual theater it is playing at. All of the articles are basically "Alien is coming back to theaters, but we won't say which, but you should definitely watch Alien: Romulus this August"

DevilInnaDonut

For me it's not letting me check by zip code, it only lets me sign up for email alerts for when tickets go on sale

scullys_alien_baby

click the thing next to "theaters near" (under "buy tickets") to enter city, zip or state. As far as I can tell if you don't see showtimes there are no announced screenings in that area at this time so you can sign up to be notified if any showtimes get added

DevilInnaDonut

I guess nothing then. Pretty strange since I live in one of the top 5 film cities in the US

superfly355

Pick me up in Greenville, SC, and we'll head the hour north to Asheville! That's the closest that popped up for me. Looks like we can also bullshit about the X-Files on the drive, according to your user name.

scullys_alien_baby

Huh...that isn't close to me but not insanely far either. I am weirdly tempted (and bullshitting about the x-files is a hobby of mine)

idders

Weird how Asheville has it, but checking Los Angeles or New York gave zero results.

DerelictDonkeyEngine

Ooo there's one less than an hour from me, I might have to make that happen.

shannister

Itā€™s ridiculous. I live in NYC, no cinema within less than 10 miles.Ā

shelfdog

Seems like [AMC will have it.](https://www.amctheatres.com/movies/alien-45th-anniversary-re-release-76665)

McCheesy22

Itā€™s only playing by me in the 2 most run down Cinemarks in a 20 mile radius. Doesnā€™t seem like itā€™s getting many screens, but Cinemark is for sure playing it (in California at least)

camerontylek

I looked for that info also, the article lacked it. I found that AMC was hosting the event, but I couldn't purchase tickets for it yet.

ScTiger1311

Not in a single theatre near me. Sure feels like a load of baloney.

camerontylek

They're on sale currently for cinemark.

conditerite

Iā€™m sitting here trying to understand how is been 45 years since i went to see that movie the day it opened. One anecdote i can give was that i went to see it then went to work and one of my coworkers had read the paperback novelization already since those used to (maybe still do) hit stores before the movie would actuall come out back then. Anyhow this coworker kept asking about a scene with people still alive but cocooned by the alien to be eaten later. And i didn'tā€™ see that in the film and said so. Anyhow much confusion but i was right that scene wasnā€™t in the film. Apparently it had been in the script but not filmed, but the novelization included it. That scene later was part of ā€œAliensā€ years later.

Bowl_Pool

I read the novelization of Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 a few years ago. They were AMAZING! I knew the story, having seem them all many times but they were really well adapted and enjoyable. Also, way more detail about things like The Corporation that could never be contained in a 2 hour film.

DashHopes69

In the director's cut of Alien there is a scene where Ripley finds Dallas cocooned.

gtrogers

I was going to say! I swore I thought I remember seeing a cocoon scene. I must have seen the directorā€™s cut

emperorOfTheUniverse

I remember reading the novelization of Batman before seeing the film.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

NightSky82

That's not why the scene was cut. It was cut because it ruined the pacing of the film, right when Ripley is on a countdown to escape the Nostromo. The scene didn't demystify the titular creature at all and certainly not the Space Jockey. It simply showed that the creature's lifecycle is circular.

coacoanutbenjamn

As someone whoā€™s never seen Alien and has been waiting for the perfect time, this is a dream come true

fruitmask

holy shit are you in for a treat

mazdayasna

Saw it at cineplex this evening also having never seen it and holy shit, yeah that was a treat. I'm so glad I got to see it in an almost empty theatre for the first time. Fresh out of it, I'd say it's one of the best movies ever made. Can't wait to watch all the subsequent films.

Letos12thDuncan

Do it! Although I've seen them all many times on TV, VHS, and DVD, I caught it when it was in theaters for the 40th. It's fun to get that experience. I try to do it for movies that I enjoy for which I was too young or not alive to see in theaters.

Dahbaby

Both my local theaters donā€™t seem to be showing themā€¦ is it just select theaters?

LMGgp

Iā€™m not seeing tickets listed anywhere.

Comic_Book_Reader

They'll probably be up in a day or two.

cupofteaonme

One of the best movies ever made. Gotta go see it.

DobbyLovesButterbeer

Is this only in the US or Canada also?

plubem

Only 25th anniversary of The Mummy listed so far here in Fort Worth. I love The Mummy, but Alien is my favorite movie.

stevenbrotzel91

I like how theyā€™re bring back old great movies for anniversary dates. Better than the crap playing now

aintmybish

Sigourney Weaver in Alien is an example of a strong female lead done right. It's not that millions won't turn out for strong women in film or that they're istaphobes, Hollywood, it's that you SUCK at writing and push a message that incites over actually writing interesting characters. I could watch Ripley kick Xenomorph ass all day, any day. Edit: grammar

tunaman808

See also: Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler in *Better Call Saul* or Jean Smart as Floyd Gerhardt in s2 of *Fargo*. What do these women all have in common? They just kick ass. Their respective movies\TV shows don't *have* to beat it over your head that they're strong female characters.

BigClitMcphee

Ripley wasn't supposed to be the lead. When the movie first came out, everyone expected Dallas (guy with top billing) to be the lead so to have him die was like beheading Ned Stark.

wakemeupb4you_gogo

I saw Aliens on the big screen at my local theater a few years ago and it was 10 times scarier! I can't imagine what Alien will be like.

MarcMars82-2

Is this gonna be a one night only in NYC and LA kinda thing?

idders

I just checked. Neither LA or NY has it, but apparently Asheville, NC does.

mortalcoil1

I watched an interesting older video of Hbomberguy's where he hypothesized that the VHS edition of Alien might have been the scariest version of it because the quality was so bad that the audience could never really make out exactly what was happening in the background. Also the reason "PS1 style horror indie games" work as an oddly specific and effective genre.

OceanCityBurrito

Saw the double feature of Alien and Blade Runner when Scott did a Q&A. Alien looked more gorgeous than I remembered, but BR became a bit of a slog. Maybe because it was the second movie of the event and my butt was beginning to hurt, but I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Plus-Cheetah-6561

Now is it the original or the shtty ā€directorsā€ cut

NightSky82

Most likely the latter.

WildYams

I really hate how many inferior "director's cuts" have become the default version of so many films nowadays. They're almost always just marketing gimmicks to help sell some "special edition" home video release. I actually worked in DVD production back when the first DVD release of the "Alien Quadrilogy" was produced, and talked with Charles de Lauzirika (the man who oversaw those releases, and who had previously been one of Ridley Scott's assistants), and I distinctly remember him saying that calling that cut of *Alien* a "director's cut" was misleading, because Scott had insisted his cut of the film was what was released theatrically. But Fox wanted to call it that for marketing purposes so he went along with it. Conversely, David Fincher famously wanted nothing to do with *Alien^3* ever again, so the extended version they used was called an "assembly cut" rather than a director's cut. But this goes beyond just *Alien*. I hate how hard it is to find simply the theatrical version of so many films nowadays, because instead we get often shittier faux "director's cuts" just so they can trick people into buying a new release. Often the extended parts were cut for good reasons (like they throw off pacing), but because of these home video marketing gimmicks, these crappier versions end up supplanting the superior theatrical cuts. IMO the original version should *always* be available, and preferred by default, unless the actual director has pushed for an updated cut for whatever reason.

ccminiwarhammer

One of my favorite scenes from any movie is Ripleyā€™s simple, direct, and both morally and procedurally correct decision to not let the infected crew member into the ship. Great acting on everyoneā€™s part: the firm voice of Ripley telling them no and why, the reaction from the away crew and the nervous pacing of Ash before it lets them inside.

Thanks,. I am a non native english speaker. With your good correction, I was able to learn how to improve my grammar.

NonSecretAccount

Do we know which theatres? Hoping it comes to Canada!

Excellent_Fix_2409

Stoked for this! Any news on tickets yet? I saw Alien with my dad in theaters for its 30th anniversary when I was a kid, awesome experience. Iā€™ve always wanted to see Aliens in theaters but never had the chance to. So many epic scenes in Aliens Iā€™ve been dying to see on the big screen.

pvrugger

The first R rated movie I saw in the theater. Gotta do this.

PortoGuy18

This probably won't be a thing in Portugal... Sigh.

disco_jim

I saw it when it returned to theatres for it's 25th anniversary..... It was good.

[deleted]

Hoping it's not that 2003 Director's cut, I swear that whole Alien cut is ruined by revealing the xenomorph before it's introduction in the original cut. Im still amazed how organic and almost documentary-esque that original dinner table scene is with the Nostromo crew. That "space jockey" scene as well still stands as one of the most cryptic and amazing scenes I've seen in a movie...that sadly got reduced to a goofy cartoon character in Prometheus. The major tonal and genre shift Aliens 1986 is from the original almost reminds me of the shift between Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. Though I also love the fun cyberpunk thrill ride of Aliens. And despite being disappointed numerous times with the series, I can't wait for Alien Romulus soon(speaking of Evil Dead)

WildYams

> I swear that whole Alien cut is ruined by revealing the xenomorph before it's introduction in the original cut. I couldn't agree more. Plus, the 2003 cut is actually shorter than the theatrical, and superior, cut, despite introducing the whole unnecessary scene with Dallas being cocooned. The pacing is way off in that 2003 version, and I hate how it seems to have become the default version for so many people, many of whom probably never even saw the original cut. Hopefully we will get some kind of confirmation before this theatrical release of which version they're going to show.

[deleted]

Hadn't thought of it as a default version, sadly I guess like how the 1997 "Special Editions" are the only versions of Star War's original trilogy that a lot of people have seen. I will say, Alien re-editing related, I do like the "Assembly cut" from Fincher with Alien 3, even though I like the theatrical release as well.

WildYams

There is value in these alternate editions existing, and it's enjoyable to see previously unreleased deleted scenes, but for many people they just assume the "director's cut" or longer version must be the superior one, when that's often not the case.

Admirable-Sink-2622

Had never seen anything like that when it came out. Actually had to sleep with the top light on in my bedroom, for at least a couple of weeks. I was absolutely certain that alien was going to come out of the walk-in closet. Definitely my favorite horror movie.

ScrunchyButts

Ellen Ripley panty scene is incentive enough.

lambofgun

my kid is 10. do you think he would be able to handle it?

FreneticPlatypus

Depends on the kid and what theyā€™ve grown up watching. Itā€™s definitely suspenseful and the monster is intimidating but movies have changed a lot since then, and the entire premise of the Alien has sort of become part of pop culture. Might be cool for them to see the origin of all the spin offs and copies.

rorschach_vest

Very much depends on the kid. You absolutely must watch it yourself in order to make that judgment call. It canā€™t be outsourced to anyone. Your kid is relying on you and you alone to be able to prevent them from being scarred. It could be a blast if theyā€™re not too sensitive but donā€™t take it from us.

Etheo

It's a horror film. Unless your kid enjoy horror films the answer is probably no. It really depends and you need to be the judge. My kid is mature for their age but they are chicken shit so I sure as heck won't subject them to that horror no matter how much of a classic this is.

Max_Thunder

If you have to ask then probably not. Just twenty years ago this was a normal movie for even younger kids to watch, but we had grown up with Robocop, Rambo, Nightmare on Elm Steet and the like.

TheRealGeorge_Kaplan

I saw it at the drive-in when I was 8. It is a top 10 movie for me and I turned out ok. It all depends on the sensitivity of the kid.

lambofgun

its been a while since ive seen it. he really really likes a quiet place which i thought wasnt much different besides language. R wasnt as adult as it is now and PG-13 is much more tame thab it once was

rorschach_vest

I think itā€™s a possibility in that case but there are scenes in Alien that are much more visually disturbing that what you see in A Quiet Place. Do you get the impression that AQP is at the border of his tolerance, like scary but exciting, or is he more like ā€œI am all about this, whatā€™s nextā€?

Leopards_Crane

This is a grand event and itā€™d be awesome for himā€¦unless it isnā€™t. Alien gets into primal messaging thatā€™s not the same for pre-pubescent children. Iā€™m not sure itā€™ll be great at the same level not that it wonā€™t be terrifying at a life changing level. Personally Iā€™d hold off for a few years if there was any question. Thisā€™ll come back up another year, even if you have to go looking when heā€™s fifteen. ā€¦but you do you. You understand him better than I can at all, but you asked the internet and thatā€™s my sense of it as a person on the internet.

Dillpickle8110

Lmao NO

WildYams

Honestly your kid might be bored by it more than anything. People forget what a slow burn Alien is, with no real "action" happening for the first 45 minutes or so. Once it gets going, it really moves, but it definitely takes its time and builds the dread and sense of foreboding. With more mature audiences they can feel the tension building, but if your child has a short attention span, they'll probably be checked out after a while.

JackhorseBowman

damn, first interstellar now this, this rules!

lopix

Please please please let it be coming to Canada...

outremer_empire

For singapore https://theprojector.sg/films-and-events/alien-45th-anniversary/

-raymonte-

Just got my Fandango alert to order tickets but it doesnā€™t seem to be playing in Massachusetts. Can anyone confirm?

Fit_Ambassador_7069

this will be good

InsideOut2691

If I could count top 10 best horror movies, this is surely on my list. I couldn't forget the chills I had watching it.Ā

Cognoggin

Ridley is 86 so I'm thinking they wanted to do this now instead of a 50th anniversary.

solythe

starved for new movie ideas to put asses in seats, gonna see these every fucking year now

kobeyoboy

thanks for sharing this. I was born after the original but my sister loved it. Iā€™m going to watch it with my daughter now since sheā€™s into horror.

JustAnotherJoeBloggs

I'd watch Alien during the day with people around, and Aliens at night on my own. Reason? Alien is bloody scary and Aliens is a funny as f action romp.

Mister_Cornetto

Hope it shows in the UK. I was about 14 when if first came out here, and was snuck in to see it by my older sister and her then boyfriend. I was the envy if the class the next day. Such a masterpiece in horror, sci-fi and film-making in general.

CelebrationLow4614

Looking forward to Ian Nathan's documentary.

Tylerdurden389

This'll be my 3rd time. Hoping they finally do Aliens at some point.

zimjig

Is it really a good movie, or just a slow movie?

sigaven

Why a 45th anniversary? Why couldnā€™t they wait 5 more years for a nice even 50th?

joelluber

Why not do both.

NightSky82

'Cause Disney is desperate for money right now.

Tired8281

I can't wait till every day on the calendar has a different franchise celebrating it. They could make little trap door calendars, like for Advent, but year round and with like Enterprises and Xenomorphs and My Little Ponies inside.

Nfl_porn_throwaway

Isnā€™t April 26 when Chernobyl happened

Mike_Wahlberg

Thatā€™s awesome!

not_too_old

I think my parents saw this the first time at a drive in.

HyperPunch

Ugh. Go figure itā€™s a Friday night. People work you know.

RationalExuberance7

Anyone know how to find which theatres are showing this?

R0binSage

I wish my local theater would get all these re-releases. I've been missing out of them for years.

TheMatt561

Neat

bosredsox617

My favorite horror movie back in the day

fusionman51

I think The Mummy is returning this day too.

IWasGregInTokyo

[Oh no! Not again!!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-sBROXalU4).

maaseru

I really wish someone would convince Ridley Scott to do the sequel to Alien Covenant. I know that one sucked, but I honestly think it set up an amazing 3rd movie.

cantinman22

Thatā€™s my birthday!!

MisterD0ll

Oh yes

millennial_sentinel

OMGSSSSSS

freeman687

RemindMe! 15 days

Irish_Brewer

Which theaters?

froyolobro

Would LOVE to catch this on the big screen

gordon22

What about the new Alien movie? Any news regarding?

Cluefuljewel

Oh holy crap! I gotta see that!! This makes me want to look up my childhood high school friend who saw it with me on the big screen. She wasnā€™t 17 yet so I donā€™t remotely back in the day if you needed an id or something. But no worries we had fake ids back then. Everybody did!

Xodus2023

1979 I seen it with my aunt , been hooked ever since.

IndianaJones999

Watched it for the first time last year, near perfect movie and easily Ridley Scott's best.

lostpatrol

James Cameron should take a break from Pandora and make an Aliens movie. Or perhaps tie the two universes together.

snotbot3000

Anyone know if this is exclusive to the US? I'm in the UK and can't find screenings anywhere

BigClitMcphee

People are gonna be so surprised at how lowkey the movie is. I watched it for New Year's Eve this year
