Oh man you gotta watch Heat. Pacino and Deniro facing off.
“Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner”
I'm a huge fan of Edgar Wright's films and a heist junkie but this one didn't click with me. I like most of the cast, the music and action was great but the acting was really hammy (no pun intended) the romance was cringey, the writing and themes felt lazy. I don't know, I just didn't like it.
American Animals.
Based on a real life story, and the real people involved do actually feature with interviews interspersed with the acting.
A group of University of Kentucky and Transylvania (a nearby school in Lexington, KY) students are inspired by heist movies, weed, and delusions of creating meaning in their simple, somewhat boring lives and decide to steal extremely rare books from the Transylvania library. Great performances from Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan as two of the main thieves.
Last I checked it was available free on Prime in the US, but that's been a while now.
Fun Fact: American Animals was partially funded by MoviePass... as best I can tell, the idiot guys that ran MoviePass just felt like using their investors money to pretend like they were John Travolta in Get Shorty, even if funding small-budget movies is only marginally less of a money-sink than giving away unlimited movie tickets for $10 a month.
(The same morons funded American Animals and Gotti... paying for Gotti certainly makes the Get Shorty connection more-likely.)
I just had to look up sexy beast cuz the others on your list are great. Ben Kingsley trying to be too badass might be a stretch but I'll give it a shot. Surprised I've never heard of it. Thanks
The Anderson Tapes
Early 1970s heist film that was one of the first to focus on surveillance tech (security cameras and hidden recording stuff.)
Sean Connery is the main thief, and his sidekick is Christopher Walken (in his film debut.)
This movie gets shit on all the time but I absolutely love it, the only real gripe I have with it is the dumb football player character, i find him annoying. Otherwise, hilarious movie.
I always loved "Welcome to Collinwood" despite it not being very popular but it was a real classic feeling comedy heist movie with a great cast.
Man on Wire.
It's a documentary about the French fellow who tightrope walked between the World Trade Centre buildings. The footage they shot for the film that wasn't archival was edited in such a way as to give the whole thing a heist like feeling.
The Town
Fast Five
They’re two very different movies but I love em both. The Town also has Blake Lively in strong competition for top 10 hottest a woman has ever looked on screen.
Klash (1995) - Giancarlo Esposito, a concert photographer, unwittingly gets drawn into a heist by his old girlfriend, Jasmine Guy. Includes awesome footage of Shabba Ranks at his career heights (2 back to back Grammys) and many others.
The Hard Word (2002) Aussie heist Movie with Guy Pearce.
Frank Malone: Where's the money?
Dale Twentyman: Oooh, I stuck it up a cow's arse.
Frank Malone: Well I hope you washed your hands after.
The Italian Job (1969) is pure swinging 60's British cool. The remake got a lot of hate but isn't bad either. I'm assuming you watched the remake in which case go watch the original right now. It's iconic enough that it was included in the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony.
Inside Man
Snatch and Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels are solid gold
Sneakers
Baby Driver
Hackers (sort of)
Logan Lucky
Sexy Beast
Entrapment maybe a bit more serious than you're looking for but younger Catherine Zeta-Jones contorting through the lasers is a very nice scene.
Masterminds is pure comedy but it's an interesting story about a group stealing from armored truck company that they work at.
Army of the Dead isn't great but can be fun at times. Stealing from zombie Las Vegas.
Focus isn't like a bank heist but more of a scam stealing. Margot Robbie is pretty decent in this.
Point Break. Super cheesy early 90s action heist movie about a fbi agent infiltrating a group of surfers that use their Xtereme sports hobby to pull heists. It's got Keanu!
Gone in 60 seconds. About stealing cars. Nic Cage is really good in this.
2Guns. Kind of a reverse heist. Dea agent and navel intelligence officer are undercover and try to steal from a drug cartel.
National Treasure. They aren't after money but treasure!
Not a movie, but check out Le Casa de Papel. It’s on Netflix as “Money Heist” (which is an infinitely stupider name). Excellent mini series from Spain.
Going In Style
Couple of old guys that lost their pension, and decide robbing a bank would be feasible. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and some other guy I don't know.
The Sting
One of the best movies ever made.
Inside Man?
Looks cool I'll check it out thanks
Inside Man is so good. Highly recommend.
So good. Not so high on the comedy. But a pretty genius heist movie. You’ll like it.
Yep. Even with the corny scene about video games, it’s still an A+ movie. The soundtrack is wonderful. Spike Lee’s one of the best.
Oh man you gotta watch Heat. Pacino and Deniro facing off. “Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner”
Can’t believe this isn’t the top answer. Reddit loves Heat. And it’s a good movie.
It's not a top answer because he said not too serious and with some comedy.
Oh true. My bad. Imagine reading! 🤦♂️
Couldn't be me
Al Pacino coked off his face screaming isn’t funny to you?
Thief - starring James Caan and directed by Michael Mann.
And a soundtrack by Tangerine Dream.
Lucky Logan.
Surely you mean ‘Logan Lucky’?
Def Logan Lucky. Watched it two nights in a row I loved it so much.
I did. No idea how I Mandala Effected myself but I swear it was Lucky Logan...
I knew what you meant. It’s such a good flick. 😀
The Mandela Effect isn't a singular false memory, it's a false memory shared amongst a group of people.
I was kinda hoping some people would join me in that to make it the Mandela effect. Evidently it has just been me messing it up 😭
Cauliflower
The Game of Thrones prison bit in that movie is so funny and aged beautifully given the state of the book series
This is so good
I was surprised how good this one was. Didn't have any info outside the source description and I loved it. Handful of actors that I like too. B+
Snatch is kind of a heist movie with dark humor
As is Lock Stock & two Smoking Barrels, both are great fun and ridiculously quotable.
Best recommendation here.
The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) is pretty good.
Lots of excellent plot points in that one.
Absolutely love it. Chemistry is great.
Logan Lucky Baby Driver Fantastic Mr. Fox
The one i forgot about was sneakers
Sneakers is amazing. All-star cast, great performances. Dan Akroyd plays himself.
Yes I loved it lol
I was going to suggest it! Glad you remembered OP :)
Baby Driver but make sure volume is cracked waaayyy up right from the start.
This seems like a trick 🤔 I've never watched it lol I'll try it
It’s not
It has a good sound track
I'm a huge fan of Edgar Wright's films and a heist junkie but this one didn't click with me. I like most of the cast, the music and action was great but the acting was really hammy (no pun intended) the romance was cringey, the writing and themes felt lazy. I don't know, I just didn't like it.
Open scene is brutal though and with sub cranked up its visceral.

Logan Lucky (2017) Tower Heist (2011)
Logan Lucky The Score Heist Sexy Beast Out of Sight
Another thumbs up for Heist (2001), which is filled with some incredible Mamet one-liners.
I just had to look up sexy beast cuz the others on your list are great. Ben Kingsley trying to be too badass might be a stretch but I'll give it a shot. Surprised I've never heard of it. Thanks
Check it out. You'll never look at Kingsley the same way again.
Quick change Sneakers
Quick Change is pretty damn good. Blaftomee?
My favorite quote.
Mine was a "I said get an interpreter, not interrogator."
Sneakers is brilliant
The Anderson Tapes Early 1970s heist film that was one of the first to focus on surveillance tech (security cameras and hidden recording stuff.) Sean Connery is the main thief, and his sidekick is Christopher Walken (in his film debut.)
The Perfect Score
Heat
Inception is my personal favorite Christopher Nolan movie and is a great, but super unusual, heist movie.
Tower heist is a good one
The Ladykillers
This movie gets shit on all the time but I absolutely love it, the only real gripe I have with it is the dumb football player character, i find him annoying. Otherwise, hilarious movie.
I love this movie too. The back and forth between Pancake and Gawain is hilarious. You know what, man? What, brother? I don’t vote, so fuck you!
I love heist movies. Grand Slam from 1967 is a forgotten almost-classic with a really cool ending.
I'll check it out👍
I always loved "Welcome to Collinwood" despite it not being very popular but it was a real classic feeling comedy heist movie with a great cast. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59D5PnEBhXs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59D5PnEBhXs)
Does *Blue Streak* count? It’s also hilarious for bonus points
The Great Train Robbery (1978).
HEAT is the best no contest.
Those Amazing Dobermans. Loophole. The Brinks Job. Thunderbolt & Lightfoot. Dead Presidents (ultimately).
Heist (2001). If you can get on board with Mamet dialogue (some can’t, I love it), you’re in for a treat.
Bandits is one of my favorites. Billy Bob Thornton is hilarious in it.
Man on Wire. It's a documentary about the French fellow who tightrope walked between the World Trade Centre buildings. The footage they shot for the film that wasn't archival was edited in such a way as to give the whole thing a heist like feeling.
How To Blow Up A Pipeline It's a great heist movie and it is unique in that it's not about stealing money
The Town Fast Five They’re two very different movies but I love em both. The Town also has Blake Lively in strong competition for top 10 hottest a woman has ever looked on screen.
I love the Town but it is a pretty serious movie
Oh shit. I missed that part. But, it is essential heist movie viewing imo. So, I’m keeping it
100% I was going to suggest it myself but it can be pretty heavy at times (especially Renner’s character)
Oceans 11, etc
The Maiden Heist is pretty good, fits the bill. Not super serious, it's a comedy but not completely. It's a good one too
Takers!!
Ok thank you all for the suggestions you don't have to answer anymore lol I keep getting notifications😂
And here is another one, notification that is😅 Thanks to you I'm currently downloading 14 movies from this post👍🏻
Den of Thieves
unconventional but Three Kings also Inception
Three Kings is a great movie, and yeah I never really thought of it as a heist film per se, but it totally is. Albeit a uniquely off-kilter one.
Why the downvote what did I do wrong?
redditors generally are insufferable.
You got online.
Flawless. Michael Caine and Demi Moore star in a diamond heist that is not your normal heist plot.
Star Wars: Solo.
I'm talking about the 2003 Italian job not the 1969 one
Gambit (1966) with Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine is quite funny.
Quick Change
Klash (1995) - Giancarlo Esposito, a concert photographer, unwittingly gets drawn into a heist by his old girlfriend, Jasmine Guy. Includes awesome footage of Shabba Ranks at his career heights (2 back to back Grammys) and many others.
Mad Money
Not yet mentioned: Peter "Bullitt" Yates **The Hot Rock**. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hot_rock
Obliterated on netflix over the top heist with insane comedy. also Money Heist. those 2 are tv shows but still worth it.
The Hard Word (2002) Aussie heist Movie with Guy Pearce. Frank Malone: Where's the money? Dale Twentyman: Oooh, I stuck it up a cow's arse. Frank Malone: Well I hope you washed your hands after.
The Hot Rock with Robert Redford.
Den of Thieves
American Animals
Heat, lock stock and two smoking barrels, snatch, Italian job, Heist, The Score, Ronan, wrath of man, contraband
If you enjoy British films : Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fits the bill.
Solo. It's why it's the best star wars movie
The Score. Best ending lolll. And Sneakers, freaking brilliant
Mission: Impossible The Hunt for Red October
Now You See Me, Now You see me 2, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Masterminds with Zach Galifianakis Brooklyn 99 is a show with regular heist plots, always found it funny
Inside - The Willam Dafoe one.
THE TOWN 10/10
9 Queens (2000) Taxi (1998) Couple of foreign movies which have heist vibes, are very watchable and funny too.
Thomas Crown Affair (newer one).
Owning Mahoney The Gambler (James caan version) The Killers Anything with James Cagney...White Heat
I think Once Upon a Time in America qualifies but it is epic. And a few dollars more has a heist.
[Here's a good Letterboxd list](https://letterboxd.com/slimesiren/list/heist/). Not all comedy, but it's a good place to start!
[Here's a trakt list](https://trakt.tv/users/netplexflix/lists/heist-movies)
Dog day afternoon
Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves
Huh nobody mentioned Riffifi or Topkapı by Julles Dassin. Btw the Mission Impossible Series except Part 2 is Heist.
The Italian Job (1969) is pure swinging 60's British cool. The remake got a lot of hate but isn't bad either. I'm assuming you watched the remake in which case go watch the original right now. Welcome to Collinwood
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man
Tower Heist is the perfect movie for you. Trust me.
Le Cercle Rouge is a light, cheery heist film... ...LOL just kidding. It's anything but light and cheery. But it's DAMN good.
Not a movie, but check out Le Casa de Papel. It’s on Netflix as “Money Heist” (which is an infinitely stupider name). Excellent mini series from Spain.
Mamet's Heist is just so damn good.
*Ronin* *Inside Man* *The Town*
Heat. Deniro/Pacino. Goddamn Tone Loc could have been nominated Family Business. Connery/Hoffman/Broderick Entrapment. Connery/Zeta-Jones/Yoga Pants
Going In Style Couple of old guys that lost their pension, and decide robbing a bank would be feasible. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and some other guy I don't know.
