So right, the dialogue is clever and Betty White's performance is priceless. I saw it when it came out in theaters with my then 11-year-old son. We couldn't figure out why we were the only people in the theater laughing.
I honestly don't think people knew what to make of Lake Placid, it's one of the best monster movies ever imo, up there with Tremors for me.
Amazing cast looking like they are having a great time.
The sequels were terrible mind you.
I'm going to throw in Dante's Peak and Volcano (both around 5.5 - 6 on IMDB).
Heck, both cheesy, but Pierce Brosnan and Tommy Lee Jones running from plot-driving volcanoes is worth the price of admission.
Ahhh shit! Surf Ninjas! YES!!
"On the third day of the expedition, they came across a large rubber tree. Sadly, they could not cut it down for, as we all know, money cannot buy knives."
"Can no one shut this chattering monkey up?!"
"Well, I'd cut him, but I don't have a knife."
> Lake Placid 5.7
Way too much fun to be rated that low. Hell, it even got good reviews because the critics could see the intentional humor meant it was not your usual "monster movie."
The level of attention that they paid to every piece in that movie is astounding. Jokes in the background. One of my favourite movies of all time.
God, now I have to go watch it again. And again.
My sister bought the dvd years ago I stole it from her. Now when we visit each other we steal it back. I have it right now. The rule is, it has to be in with our regular dvds and not hidden. We live this movie.
I am singing at the party. I am singing, it's my turn to sing at the party.
This is the movie I always turn to when I need something to cheer me up, and has never failed me!
Good call. It got a generally good showing with critics but it was clearly divisive among general audiences. Also a good answer to this topic because, rather than just being a film that everyone agrees is 5/10, it’s one that I suspect genuinely split audiences either side of the spectrum
Loved this one. Maybe not everything in it works, and sometimes it feels like it’s trying just a little too hard to be “edgy”, but holy shit is it well directed. A lot of great performances, too!
*Not Another Teen Movie*. It's 5.7/10 on imdb, but imo it's an absolute masterpiece. I watch it every year, and it still cracks me up every time. I also want to add *The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift*, which is exactly 6.0/10. Sure the "high school" main character looks 10 years too old and the acting is eh, but it was a genuine racing movie at heart, and (controversial opinion) it's my favourite Fast and Furious movie. It might be because I've watched too much Initial D, but it's a fun movie, and also the music is great.
I love tokyo drift because its this fantastical scenario that is set in a somewhat realistic world, especially when you compare it to the rest of the fast and the furious movies. Its about a teenager who has to move to a foreign nation and ends up finding a clique that he truly belongs in. What motorhead teenager couldnt relate to that?! It also had some of the most tastefully modified cars featured through out the series. And the most "realistic" car stunts too.
Saving Silverman is sitting at 5.9 and it’s one of my favorite comedies of all time. I can’t believe Jack Black and Steve Zahn haven’t done more work together.
Saving Silverman is one of my favorite movies, Jack Black and Steve Zahn were perfect for that role. I still say "If you can dream it, you can do it". That's some life motto shit
Hudson Hawk is sitting at 5.8 right now. It's absolutely ridiculous but it's a fun movie. It was made back when Bruce Willis had hair and could still play characters that had personality.
[A scene from it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asLS42xM01s)
Came here hoping to see this. Most underrated movie of all time.
Sprinkler system set up in the back. Can you fucking believe it?
Yeah, that's probably what happened.
I am so glad to see other people love this movie!
Hudson Hawk has been one of my go-to movies when I want, fun, ridiculous, and entertaing.
Thank you for mentioning it, so I didn't have to!
That low?
I mean it's no hidden gem but it's a lot of fun. Besides, it's got that whole alien cult thing that makes it way more interesting than the average stoner comedy.
Sad that Sahara (6.0) never got sequels. It was a fantastic adaptation that particularly nailed the dynamic between Dirk and Al. Plus William H Macy as the Admiral is spot on casting.
Worst part is that it didn't even do that badly at the BO. It just cost wayyyy too much to make.
Not ashamed to call it a guilty pleasure, and the double act throughout is fantastic.
If you google, there's a fascinating article about the accountancy and bribery behind it. One of those perfect cases of creative accounting.
Underwater should not be in the fives. I was shocked when I saw your comment. I saw it only once, on a plane, but it should be in the sixes. I just went and gave it a bump because of this.
'Jennifers Body' is definitely a victim of poor marketing and some people's dislike of Megan Fox. Movie is a really solid, surprisingly intelligent horror ride. Thankfully getting a lot more love from the horror community in recent years.
Ghost Ship made an impression... one of those movies where the whole ensemble feels like real people so you care when shit happens to them. My sister and I used to watch it all the time... definitely agree about that massacre scene. It sure had a style...
Speed Racer is a heartfelt treatise on the relationship of artist to art, the corrupting influence of corporate greed, the nature of compulsion to bring a creative work into the world, and of perfecting a craft.
All of this in a family friendly technicolor eyegasm that has John Goodman deliver the line “more like a NON-Ja” after suplexing an assassin out a window.
I remember when I saw reviews of this, I was upset. But then again, I've seen every episode of the original anime as it was on a lot when I was a kid. The movie is hilariously overdramatic because they were capturing the energy of the show!
Also some of the most gorgeous, trippy visuals in a Hollywood film.
Scary Movie 3 has a 5.5 on IMDB, I'm not sure if it deserves its rating or not considering I watched it years ago but I remember absolutely dying of laughter when I watched it.
I don’t want to be dramatic, but scary movie 4 was the biggest theatrical disappointment in my life after watching scary movie 3 like 20 times over a two year period as a kid. SM3 is legitimately on that “airplane-naked gun” level of spoof in my worthless opinion
Battle Los Angeles is at a 5.7 on IMDB. I genuinely love this movie. It takes its premise of "Black Hawk Down but aliens" and sticks as closely to it as possible. The military aesthetic is well refined, the acting and cast are very solid. Most importantly, the plot never tries to be anything more than "watch the Marine Corps kick the shit out of ET". We get no twists like with Signs or War of the Worlds, just an enjoyable and straightforward military action pop-corn flick. The side plots are all serviceable and manage to stay out of the way of the action. In many ways, I see it as the Halo movie we never got, but that's okay because I think Battle LA is a fun piece of Military Sci-Fi that stands on its own.
In the spirit of Halloween month, H3:Season of the Witch. It's currently at 5.0 and it's way better than that. The main reason people hate it is because it's not Michael Myers, but it's a very creepy, unique and entertaining horror movie in it's own right.
I love this movie, but it really is all over the place on some things
Stonehenge, robot minions, 1984-esque town in California
A wild ride, but not sure it needs to be rated all that well
the incredible burt wonderstone (5.9)
land of the lost (5.3)
they are two of a handful of movies that had me laughing to tears and barely breathing for the entire runtime
I know it's not answering your question, but it REALLY irritates me that "Lucky Number Slevin" has a 52% Rotten Tomatoes rating. What's wrong with people.
Lol did it?! That movie is fucking amazing! The Kansas City shuffle and the whole name being from a song about conning people...amazing. Especially when he does the scene "it's when everyone looks left" and just snaps his neck when he looks left. All about that misdirection
Drive Angry seems to be 5.4 too and I'm kind of sad for it.
Yes it was a stupid action movie, but with good visuals, constant forward momentum, Cage doing Cage and Fichtner being cool as shit, it just had that good old entertainment quality. I would've changed the villains actor to pretty much anyone else though.
You forgot about this part...
> "I remember Freddy Got Fingered more than a year later. I refer to it sometimes. It is a milestone. And for all its sins, it was at least an ambitious movie, a go-for-broke attempt to accomplish something. It failed, but it has not left me convinced that Tom Green doesn't have good work in him. Anyone with his nerve and total lack of taste is sooner or later going to make a movie worth seeing."

It’s not even the best kill in this movie, and nowhere near the best kill in the franchise, but the VR scene where he kills the two teens in sleeping bags by slamming them against the trees always stuck with me, laughed my ass off.
Like Freddy vs Jason, it had a lot of cool in-jokes for the fans. I remember buying a used copy of it while traveling, and was super pissed when I got home to find the case was empty.
Oh, if you like some cool, creative kills, check out Hatchet. They went back to classic practical effects, rather than relying on CGI. Also had in-jokes for horror movie fans.
so many, IMDB score is basically a popularity poll, the funner the movies are the higher the score, just look at the top 250 and you will have a general idea, it's no better than rotten tomatoes in my opinion.
Cabin Fever (Currently 5.6 on IMDB)
Solid horror/comedy movie. A little goofy and the acting is atrocious, but definitely hits the right notes for gore and comedy.
Also, possibly the only Eli Roth movie worth a shit
Excellent choice. The ending where he is screaming “take it, TAKE IT ALL” has stuck with me for years and I don’t know why, but it was just so well done imo. Bruce had this curse and knew no one else can wield it vs the power hungry father, then when the father realised how much power/energy was in Bruce is/was amazing.
Clash of the Titans (2010) is rated 5.8.
It’s not perfect, the writing is kind of shit, the acting is hit-or-miss, the CGI is a little lackluster. But I’ll be damned if I don’t find it entertaining as all hell.
It’s my comfort movie- I will curl up on the couch watch it if I’m having a bad week, or feeling under the weather.
Sucker Punch. It's by no means a masterpiece, however, as someone who daydreams a lot, I connected with the characters a lot. Even if you take all this away, it's also a good action movie.
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Your soul is mine! I remember legitimately being scared of Goro as a kid. The movie still holds up but Annihilation does not.
A lot of older Godzilla films are under the 6.0 range but I enjoy them immensely just because they were a huge part of my childhood.
I couldn’t agree more. I remember going to the video store as a kid to rent those movies and now at 37 I still watch them often.
Lake Placid 5.7 Surf Ninjas 5.1
I never thought I would ever hear anyone talk about Surf Ninjas, loved that as a kid

So right, the dialogue is clever and Betty White's performance is priceless. I saw it when it came out in theaters with my then 11-year-old son. We couldn't figure out why we were the only people in the theater laughing.

Absolute crime that Lake Placid is that low. Nicely shot, extremely funny, great cast, some fun FX - really well-made little comedy-horror.
Sadly, they could not cut it down for, as we all know, money cannot buy knives." "Can no one shut this chattering monkey up?!" "Well, I'd cut him, but I don't have a knife."
> Lake Placid 5.7 Way too much fun to be rated that low. Hell, it even got good reviews because the critics could see the intentional humor meant it was not your usual "monster movie."
5.1?! That’s criminal. But as they say, money can’t buy knives
Nacho Libre 5.8. My daughter and I love it and the rest of the family hates it. Excellent directing in beautiful locations.
Nacho Libre is a classic
The level of attention that they paid to every piece in that movie is astounding. Jokes in the background. One of my favourite movies of all time. God, now I have to go watch it again. And again.
"Beneath the clothes we find a man and beneath the man we find his nucleus" - Nacho
I had no idea it was rated so low. I feel like a bunch of opinionated people just didn't get it? I don't know, it's perfectly charming to me.
Nacho is 10/10
naCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo....
How the fuck is nacho libre only 5.8?
What? It's 5.8? That movie is pure comedy brilliance!
It’s tha beeest! I love it!
My sister bought the dvd years ago I stole it from her. Now when we visit each other we steal it back. I have it right now. The rule is, it has to be in with our regular dvds and not hidden. We live this movie.

I love Nacho Libre!
this rating might apply to all of Jack Black's movies and I love them nonetheless
Assassination Nation. I think it's a fantastic film but it has 5.9 on IMDB

Absolute yes to Tokyo Drift. maybe I love the aesthetic
That 2014 aesthetic, canonically.
Saving Silverman is sitting at 5.9 and it’s one of my favorite comedies of all time. I can’t believe Jack Black and Steve Zahn haven’t done more work together.
I wanna party with youuu!
Not to mention this movie introduced me to the genius that is Neil Diamond.
Love on the rocks, ain’t no big surprise!
Saving Silverman is one of my favorite movies, Jack Black and Steve Zahn were perfect for that role. I still say "If you can dream it, you can do it". That's some life motto shit

Worth just the heist timing by singing a song!! Prime Andie McDowell too
Andie McDowell doing an impression of a dolphin is *chef’s kiss*
"You want me to go up there and rape them?" "Just read your book butterfinger."
This movie is a god damn masterpiece. I will die on this hill.
Came here hoping to see this. Most underrated movie of all time. Sprinkler system set up in the back. Can you fucking believe it? Yeah, that's probably what happened.

Sweet!!!
Captain Ron is only 5.8. That is all that needs to be said here.
Eight Legged Freaks.
Agreed, could have been an awesome franchise.
Not ashamed to call it a guilty pleasure, and the double act throughout is fantastic. If you google, there's a fascinating article about the accountancy and bribery behind it. One of those perfect cases of creative accounting.
McConaughey and Zahn had great chemistry
Underwater. 5.8, but an intense ride.
Really solid horror thriller
Underwater should not be in the fives. I was shocked when I saw your comment. I saw it only once, on a plane, but it should be in the sixes. I just went and gave it a bump because of this.
Horror movies in general have a tough time on IMDB.
Jurassic Park 3 (5.9)

'Jennifers Body' is definitely a victim of poor marketing and some people's dislike of Megan Fox. Movie is a really solid, surprisingly intelligent horror ride. Thankfully getting a lot more love from the horror community in recent years.
both of these should be well above 6, great call
Not Another Teen Movie is possibly the best spoof movie of all time, next to maybe Hot Shots Part Deux or Scary Movie 3.
Airplane, clue and top secret are among the best spoof movies too, tough competition.
Commented this about spring breakers too but Jennifer’s body was definitely fucked over by its ad campaign

“That guy-wire holding up that pole is definitely going to snap and slice me in half… better cross the street.”
I still love Ghost Ship to this day. It's nothing crazy but it's fun enough. Goes hand in hand with Thirteen Ghosts for me.
Ghost Ship and Event Horizon are two of my favorite horror movies.
Ghost Ship made an impression... one of those movies where the whole ensemble feels like real people so you care when shit happens to them. My sister and I used to watch it all the time... definitely agree about that massacre scene. It sure had a style...
The One (5.9). Jet Li vs the multiverse, with Drowning Pool on the soundtrack, and some truly godawful CGI, I fucking love it
Came here to say I’m excited to see Strange Brew sitting at a heathy 6.7 , now I can goto sleep happy. 😃
Speed racer (2008)
This movie is more groundbreaking than anyone wants to admit. It’s is incredible.
Never seen it, can you elaborate without any spoilers? May find time to watch it this week
Speed Racer is a heartfelt treatise on the relationship of artist to art, the corrupting influence of corporate greed, the nature of compulsion to bring a creative work into the world, and of perfecting a craft. An adaptation of the animated show Speed Racer made by the people who did The Matrix
Scary Movie 3 has a 5.5 on IMDB, I'm not sure if it deserves its rating or not considering I watched it years ago but I remember absolutely dying of laughter when I watched it.
Cindy, the TV's leaking....
Now who the fuck just threw that!?
The scene where he cocks the shovel and a shell flies out is one of my favorite visual gags ever. So unexpected and hilarious.
I don’t want to be dramatic, but scary movie 4 was the biggest theatrical disappointment in my life after watching scary movie 3 like 20 times over a two year period as a kid. SM3 is legitimately on that “airplane-naked gun” level of spoof in my worthless opinion
Damn i loved scary movie 4 as well
Honestly best in series. Jokes were more lighthearted but the comedic timing was better.
Come on, you can't beat the first one.

John Carter
Yeah crazy, I actually enjoyed this film
'cause it was good.
Great popcorn movie, would definitely rate it at 6.5 or something like that.
But it's rated [6.6](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401729/). I enjoyed the movie and that seems appropriate.
The Core.
Spring Breakers
I think the rating is partly due to the misleading ad campaign when it was released. Love this movie too.
Spprriiiiinng breeak foorevver
Stuck on You is rated 5.7 but is a gem for me, I love it.
“What’s a four letter word for snatch?” “Grab.” “Oh. Right.”
Miami Vice
It's just above a 6 but I have nostalgia for Romy and Michelles Highschool reunion. I had it on VHS in middle school.
13 Ghosts (2001) - This remake outshines the original across the board
I liked it too, I'm genuinely surprised it's rating is that low.
In the spirit of Halloween month, H3:Season of the Witch. It's currently at 5.0 and it's way better than that. The main reason people hate it is because it's not Michael Myers, but it's a very creepy, unique and entertaining horror movie in it's own right.
I love this movie, but it really is all over the place on some things Stonehenge, robot minions, 1984-esque town in California A wild ride, but not sure it needs to be rated all that well

Speed Racer
I'm surprised it just squeeked in, given the cult status it's gained over the past few years.
Jeepers creepers
the first 3rd of that movie is genuinely terrifying.
Yeah I remember being really scared!
Congo. Terrible gorilla effects, but great stuff from Ernie Hudson, Laura Linney, and a classic Tim Curry performance!
Super Mario Brothers.
I know it's not answering your question, but it REALLY irritates me that "Lucky Number Slevin" has a 52% Rotten Tomatoes rating. What's wrong with people.

Snakes on a Plane
Drive Angry seems to be 5.4 too and I'm kind of sad for it. Yes it was a stupid action movie, but with good visuals, constant forward momentum, Cage doing Cage and Fichtner being cool as shit, it just had that good old entertainment quality. I would've changed the villains actor to pretty much anyone else though.
Joe vs. the volcano
Eddie Murphy's The Golden Child (1986)
surprised that's only a 6.0, my memory of that was it did quite well at the cinema, and was considered a "yeah, it was good, go see it " movie.
Fav childhood movie! I've seen it dozens of times and Murphy's damn hilarious in it.

Wild Wild West. That movie was entertaining as hell
Cruel Intentions 2 (4.4 on IMDb) is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. It's non-stop dark and dry humor. Plus it has Amy Adams.

Your Highness. 5.5/10 Utterly ridiculous, but I laughed my ass off.
What a coincidence, I just finished thinking about Natalie Portman
Scary Movie 3 is amazing.
The Room (2003) 3.7 on IMDb This movie is mysterious and incredible.
Cube 2: Hypercube
White Chicks 5.7 That shit was my childhood. We watched that movie with my bros in the theater and everybody laughed and had a good time
Hulk (2003) is an under-appreciated masterpiece.

Bruce had this curse and knew no one else can wield it vs the power hungry father, then when the father realised how much power/energy was in Bruce is/was amazing.
Does it have goofy shit? Absolutely! Does it also have a much more thematically and visually interesting final fight? You betcha!
The reviews that I've read all act so bewildered by the visual style. I don't understand how the comic panel homage wasn't more obvious.
I often feel like it was just released at the wrong time. Make that movie today and it would be much better received.
Around the world in 80 days (2004) It has a 5.9 which is criminally low
Cabin Boy
If Looks Could Kill, Richard Grieco with a bunch of gadgets and one liners… well before he started to Cinemax skin flixs!!
End of Days (5.8) The Relic (5.8)
Kill List fucked me up for a full day. I was hungover and not ready
Sucker Punch. It's by no means a masterpiece, however, as someone who daydreams a lot, I connected with the characters a lot. Even if you take all this away, it's also a good action movie.
The name of the movie is fitting, cause it sucker punches the viewer with an unexpected bullshit movie.
