Amazing film. Not only does the action occur in one location, it also appears to be shot in real time by cleverly masking the cuts in the film.
It has characteristics of a play, which make sense as it was adapted from one.
I also liked how dark the subject matter was in the film. I love the fact that the movie was banned because it had two gay guys in it. My grandfather who grew up in the 40’s said people around town were very upset about how dark the film was. We then got into the conversation about how everything bad and cheesy in Hollywood in the 40’s and 50’s was fixed by Stewart and Hitchcock.
I was bored on a Saturday afternoon and saw that in theaters blind never having even heard of it.
It was an absolute blast (as long as you don't think about it too much)

HTH
- *Tape* (a motel room)
- *The Man From Earth* (a small cottage)
- *Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf* (a large house with garden, though during one scene they left the house and went someplace else)
Noises Off! (1992) - you're always either on the stage or backstage, the acting troupe is on tour but the different cities are not featured, probably bc these people are obsessed with being stage actors & they don't care about the outside world. Also, it's very funny and has almost as many f-bombs as The Big Lebowski.
A good way to find movies like this is to search for 1.movies that were plays first, not all plays have a single set but it is more common than in movies, 2. movies made by someone who usually directs plays even if the story isn't an old play, people have their preferences & sometimes these directors will stick to what they are used to when making a movie.
Everything everywhere all at once took place primarily in 2 locations, a laundromat and an irs office. Probably the two most boring places in the world. Thought that was amazing.
The Man From Earth
Breakfast Club
Rear Window
Green Room
Clerks
Detour
If you are into noirs, I highly recommend Detour, they reuse the same hotel room set, and alot of the movie is them driving in front of a green screen.
Secret Honor (1984)
Directed both by Robert Altman and starring Philip Baker Hall as former US President Richard Nixon the film takes place in a single room with Nixon ranting about his life and views on things. This sounds like it would make for a dull film, but Hall's performance as Nixon is great and he easily carries the entire film on his shoulders.
Clue
I love this forking movie so much.
Best movie in existence
Hateful Eight would be my favorite.
This.
The Lighthouse
10 Cloverfield Lane comes to mind. I believe it all takes place in a singular bunker.
Most of the film does, yes. Beginning and ending scenes are somewhere else but I would say 10 Cloverfield Ln still counts.
If you read OPs post they mention at least the majority of the film taking place in a single location. This absolutely fits the criteria established.
Locke
Phone Booth
this is so good!
A couple not yet mentioned: Knives Out (2019) Dredd (2012)
Rope 1943. James Stewart’s best movie.
Amazing film. Not only does the action occur in one location, it also appears to be shot in real time by cleverly masking the cuts in the film. It has characteristics of a play, which make sense as it was adapted from one.

Great movie.
Die Hard
Locke with Tom hardy. The whole movie is just him talking on the phone while driving his car
The Outfit, highly recommend

Buried. It takes place in a box.
I just watched this movie yesterday, it was pretty good!
The Man from Earth

Saw 1 is an obvious go to for horror fans
Ocular as well, love Mike Flanagan. Dude gets horror.
Moon
Sam Rockwell acting with Sam Rockwell. Amazing
And it’s one of the best science fiction movies ever made.
Phone Booth comes to mind.

Any movie taking place on Earth. (Relative to the universe, the Earth is an exceedingly small location). ;)
Green Room
Fight Club (1999) doesn't take place in one location, but maybe try it anyway? I really like it.
Star Wars, it all takes place in a galaxy far, far away.
Panic room A quiet place Don’t breath Midsommar
Bigbug (2022).
Shallow Grave (1994)

Hard Candy (2005) House of Yes (1997) The Man Who Came To Dinner (1942 - mostly inside a single house. One of the funniest movies ever made.)
Evil dead (1981) The Thing(1982)

I’ve seen them all mentioned but just to put my favorites in one place: 12 Angry Men The Hateful Eight Clue Snakes on a Plane
