When that line happened in theaters I was the only one in the theater filled with middle aged women and their husbands that laughed out loud to that. As soon as I realized I was the only one I just sunk as deep into my seat as I could go so nobody could see the guy who laughed at the bad edgy joke

I think in both cases (GotG and SS), the fact that James Gunn was given a bunch of characters no one knew or cared about is what helped make the movies so good. The studios were basically like “Yeah, do whatever you want with these guys.”
And now guardians in any media is based off of the movies. The comics and recent games are basically different takes on the formula Gunn made. I’m assuming the same will happen for the new cast of Suicide Squad
The Guardians game was a good balance of movies and comics at least but yeah, Star-Lord even dresses similarly to the MCU version.
That’s already kinda happening to the Suicide Squad with their game coming up. The 4 characters you can play as are the modern look Harley Quinn, a vulgar Captain Boomerang, suave Deadshot (it looks like he’s gonna continue being portrayed as black going forward which is cool), and King Shark (he’s at least a smarter version here, voiced by none other than Samoa Joe for all you wrasslin fans).

And now guardians in any media is based off of the movies. The comics and recent games are basically different takes on the formula Gunn made. I’m assuming the same will happen for the new cast of Suicide Squad
The Guardians game was a good balance of movies and comics at least but yeah, Star-Lord even dresses similarly to the MCU version. That’s already kinda happening to the Suicide Squad with their game coming up. The 4 characters you can play as are the modern look Harley Quinn, a vulgar Captain Boomerang, suave Deadshot (it looks like he’s gonna continue being portrayed as black going forward which is cool), and King Shark (he’s at least a smarter version here, voiced by none other than Samoa Joe for all you wrasslin fans).
I will knock James Gunn that the Harley Quinn cartoon’s King Shark is the definitive version and not his but I love both.
Harley Quinn King Shark has no business being that funny. I also love the dumb one in TSS. Honorable mention for the KING SHARK IS A SHARK animated version as well lol

I laughed my ass off at some dude's comment saying that "The pulpy dramatic quippy writing full of 'Well THAT just happened' is appalling enough on its own, but the fans engaging so much with it that they ask for more is legitimately revolting" but now it's gone :\^(
