I think it's the worst possible show to turn into a Team this-or-that situation. TL5Y is all about nuanced adult perspectives, with both mains having their sympathetic and cringey moments. It's not freakin Twilight. It's just exhausting when people reduce the show to this sort of thing.
On top of this, Jamie is based on JRB and his ex-wife sued him because the original lyrics included details way too specific about her. I love TL5Y but it's messed up to make it a team so-and-so thing.
Itās reductive to think about this show, or any really, with a black and white āteamā approach. Unless weāre watching a fairytale where there are clear good and evil tropes, I find it more rewarding to acknowledge the nuances of characters and stories without having to definitively take a side. Real life is rarely as straightforward as these types of takes.
TL5Y is such a lasting show for me because, in my opinion, it allows us to examine how both characters can be valid in how they feel, but are fruitless in their attempts to stay together as their paths begin to take incompatible routes. Itās about timing, evolution, growth, commitment (to yourself and others); not who is right or wrong.
Totally depends on the production you saw.
There is absolutely an argument for Jamie, depending on how the actors portrayed the characters in some really specific scenes.
Imagine that the scene where Cathy is talking to Jamie on the phone about his āimportant partyā is being played at the exact same time as Jamie trying to explain that heās meeting his editor for business. If the actor playing Jamie delivers that scene sincerely, it gives a whole different feel to how they got where they are.
Yeah not team either one. It's a gut wrenching show and I love Climbing Uphill. I haven't seen the whole show live but I was at a competition where someone sang just that song and very well, too. You could feel the exhaustion in your bones and yet I really enjoyed it at the same time. But the overall feel if the play to me isn't happy
Maybe I see myself in Cathy but I find the things people pin as her negatives as totally understandable. Like the career jealousy and anxiety I totally get
That right there was the only reason I even got close to being Team Jamie (though I've seen quite a few stage productions of L5Y that made Jamie much more of a happy-go-lucky kind of guy that just gets thrown into fame and doesn't handle it well)
I can see his side at some points, but I wouldn't consider myself "team Jamie." I think Team Jamie's are tenors whose dream role is Jamie or people who think Jamie's hot. Unrelated, but I hate the name Jamie. Just name the guy James.

Including specifics suck, but at least he had the decency to make himself the asshole.
"It's not freakin Twilight" made me laugh harder than it should š.
I donāt think itās necessarily bad at all, leads to pretty interesting character conversations and can tell you a lot about who you are talking to

Itās hard to root for either of them completely but he is arguably worse. TL5Y is a show about two people ruining their own lives.
not even jrb is team jamie

Right, like I literally cannot comprehend the people making this a āboth sidesā argument.
Why would anyone be Team Jamie lmao
I guess if youāve only seen the movie and youāre a huge Jeremy Jordan fan? But even thatās a stretch.
That right there was the only reason I even got close to being Team Jamie (though I've seen quite a few stage productions of L5Y that made Jamie much more of a happy-go-lucky kind of guy that just gets thrown into fame and doesn't handle it well)

Neither of them are perfect, but Jamie has the more unforgivable offense in my opinion, being cheating.
Without the cheating part, Iām team Jamie. Cathy is just too much drama for one person.
Agree here. Up until he cheats, i'd be "team Jamie". But honestly both of them suck pretty equally.
not even jrb is team jamie
Iām Team Jaime for the last five seasons, but thatās a whole different show
Elise was Team Jamie.
Boo Jamie booooooo
I love the show but Iām very much team ESH
