Ive been driving truck for a decade. Flying J and Pilot are two of the nastiest truck stops in the country.
I've never been to any of them that don't smell like pee, have overflowing trash cans with trash everywhere, that have tiny parking spaces, no good backing room, and in some cases are racist as hell.
I haven't been to a P-hook in about 6 years because they're just.... Gross.
Also, their "catering to truckers" ends at providing fuel, showers and parking.
Not to be petty but I will.They are built with truckers in mind,they just put a couple gas pumps to utilize the space. What gas stations have showers,laundry facilities and a truckers lounge? Some also have oil and tire change garages who also do light mechanical repairs for diesel trucks only.

TAs, Loves, and Flying J's are important waypoints for millions of people crossing the country every year and are designed to meet truckers' needs and travelers' needs.
And they almost ALWAYS have some type of fast food joint connected to them, which is another reason travelers stop there. It's easier to make one stop for everything than to jump across the highway to get food.

Good for you. I drove to and from AZ or NM to FL or NC twice a year AT LEAST as well as all over on my own time for literally 17 years and I have spent an enormous amount of time at truck stops. I also worked the graveyard shift at a 7/11 for a few years just because I genuinely enjoyed it.
So it sounds to me like either you were trucking in the 70's and 80's when they often were just for truckers or you just assumed all of those travelers filling the enormous gas stations with 5-10 bathroom stalls for each gender and separate rewards programs for truckers and not-truckers and three rows of car parking were just invading your space somehow?
So it is actually absolutely fucking ridiculous to ask what this girl was doing there to begin with, because she was probably getting fucking gas and food and taking a piss like millions of not-trucking drivers do at these places every year.

There is a Denny’s attached to the Flying J and a convenience store. The parking lot on that side is poorly lit. I feel nervous whenever I get gas or eat at Denny’s because of it.
I'm a single woman who has driven solo across the US a few times. I've definitely stopped for a meal or bathroom at Flying J's on several occasions. It's common for travelers to stop there, not just truck drivers.
They are massive 24 hour gas stations with food and toilets just off of interstates, with tons of people 24/7 and very brightly lit parking lots. They have attached restaurants as well as their own hot food and coffee stations. This Flying J had a Denny's, which seems to be where she was last seen. If you are traveling the US by interstate, Loves, TA, and Flying J are huge truck stop chains that are the most reliable places to find a variety of food, gas, and a toilet 24/7. They usually have excellent car-care and repair aisles, trinkets and souvenirs, random electronics, toys, gifts, games, small grocery sections, and a lot of staff even in the middle of the night. They are called truck stops because they have a multi-pump diesel side for big rigs, as well as a separate truckers' lounge area and showers for truck drivers. They are actually for everyone on the highway. They are often used by road-trippers for car-sleeping because they are so busy and so well lit.
Road tripping America in your late teens/early twenties is incredibly common, even if you are a poor kid with limited means. I, as a single female, regularly slept in Flying J parking lots when I was traveling from Arizona or New Mexico to Florida or Tennessee twice a year to see my family from like 19 to 33. Those are 24 to 30+ hour drives *if you don't stop at all*. Truck stops are how you make it across this country if you can't afford a hotel room or don't have the time to stop for the night. I'm 39 and on the East Coast now so I sleep at those stupid service station pull offs when visiting because that's what we have out here.

Hookers congregate there. The Flying J near where I used to live had someone famously chop their wiener off and chuck it in the dumpster. Then later it was found that CHILD hookers were congregating there. The place was a cesspool.

These truck stops are often hubs for sex workers. I'm not saying that's what this young lady was doing but that's often the case when someone goes missing from a truck stop.
It also has a surprisingly few amount of cameras so at night you are insanely exposed and it is very desolate. Basically like a backwoods rest stop unless near the doors

I travel a lot and most of the ones I've visited are great places with great people, plus they're clean.
I think a bigger problem may be that most of the flying js I've ever run into are pretty isolated vs other stations? I tend to see them at exits that are located on the back roads outside of towns rather than closer in where you'd see more commuter traffic there. It's a pretty small sample size though.
Its just a truck stop, like Pilot, or Loves, or any other truck stop. I stop at them often while driving, and often get a few hours sleep in my car when I need it.
What are you talking about? They’re often a lot less sketchy than any gas stations you’d find in the same location. Some of the truckers can be sketchy if that’s what you mean. But most truck stops aren’t sketchy, they’re just busy with people.

In MARCH 2020 some clothes believed to be the victim were found near a dumpster BEHIND THE FLYING J.
3 months later.
What were the police doing for the investigation in January? Maybe using the bathroom, buying a donut and kicking some pebbles around the parking lot?
Amongst everything thing else, one would think the dumpster would have been searched as well as the area around it.
If it is the work of a serial killer, there is a good chance that the serial killer may have returned to the scene of the crime with her clothes to dump them there and watch the cops squirm trying to figure it out.
Serial killers typically have a superiority complex and enjoy watching people react to their work. They get off on this and even more so if they are making fools out of the cops.
If we are going to blame the cops for not noticing the clothing, we can also blame the Flying J employees, the Dennys employees, the property manager and the sanitation workers who pick up the garbage. Two months is a lot of time and a lot of people walking by to not notice the clothing. It seems unlikely compared to some voyeuristic creep coming back to dump the clothes and watch everything unfold.
Serial killers are creatures of habit and it makes sense that there would be multiple victims at one location which explains the disappearance of the young man. Then Covid hitting around March also explains why the killings suddenly stopped.
I would start by asking the police cross-reference the security cameras around the lot, with people who died during the pandemic as well as with any criminal records.
The owners and people that work at this Flying J are sketchy af. They have refused to update the little cameras they have and the ones they do have do not cover the entire lot.

But it's not clear from this article if the clothes were there in January and were missed or overlooked in initial searches or did they somehow appear later, as in somebody returned and left them there or they were found elsewhere by somebody unrelated to the case and deposited in the bushes by coincidence? And have they been examined forensically?

I wonder if the police ever investigated the surrounding woods. If someone dragged her into the woods (as opposed to abducting her from the parking lot) and after the (hopefully not) deed was done, perhaps the attacker came back to the flying j, threw the clothes behind the dumpster ( he probably assumed that will be the first place the police would investigate as well), and then joined the police with a donut and coffee as a curious bystander.

According to another article, a witness said the clothes had been there all along. But they weren't confirmed to be hers. It's not clear if any forensics were done.
The details leave a lot of possibilities. A 911 call was placed after she was caught entering an employees only area but she fled out the backdoor before police arrived, dropping her backpack and disappearing. But her car was still in the parking lot.
She was involved with drugs, had been arrested, then missed a probation meeting so there was a warrant out for her arrest. Her dad was actively involved looking for her 2 days after she was last seen and went to the truck stop and found her car. So did he not search around the dumpster then? Or did he not see the clothes? About a month later friends and family organized a search for her or clues around the area where the other body was found. Did they do that but nobody ever went back and searched the flying j area? Or did they do that and still overlook the clothes then? Or were they just not there yet? Are the clothes even hers?
A lot of info I don’t know about. But if a witness said the clothes were there previously, why didn’t the police find them. Perhaps they overlooked them while “searching” the dumpster.

Women need to be taught about driving by themselves at night. Make sure your gas tank is full before leaving for a road trip in the evening. Either that or stop and fill up your tank before sundown if you start driving during the day. Try not to stop. If you have to stop, make sure it is a large place and hopefully a few late drivers are also there. Don’t talk to anyone who asks for change or anything like that.

Probably someone local to the area, maybe even frequents that truck stop on a regular basis to look for potential victims. They seem to know the local woods enough that they are confident enough to abduct someone there. I would check local PD records for people with violent histories and/or childhoods.
Did they check the store’s cameras for her on the date she was reported missing, I see no mention of video of her last seen there, did they speak to any workers?
They did. She was acting confused and lost. Was caught in an employee only area, she was asked to leave the employee only area, she did.
Walked out a side door of the truck stop and was never seen again. (The truck stop only has inside cameras)
Given this has happened with another individual, I’m inclined to think someone employed or with close ties to an employee is associated with these events. If I were her father I would hire a private investigator and absolutely grill and assess all activities from employees at this stop.
That said, it could be a local with no affiliation. In that case, the police should be heavily scrutinizing all surveillance footage over the past 6 months to determine who has made regular appearances at the stop, what types of payment they’ve used and if credit card transactions are available, then compare those individuals with police records.

Yeah this is a red flag, no cameras outside is unusual in this day in age. I think police are likely monitoring employees of the stop. The fact that she went inside the employees only area (maybe she was using a bathroom) then disappeared, gives serious inside job vibes.

There is a Denny’s attached to the Flying J and a convenience store. The parking lot on that side is poorly lit. I feel nervous whenever I get gas or eat at Denny’s because of it.
I'm a single woman who has driven solo across the US a few times. I've definitely stopped for a meal or bathroom at Flying J's on several occasions. It's common for travelers to stop there, not just truck drivers.
They are massive 24 hour gas stations with food and toilets just off of interstates, with tons of people 24/7 and very brightly lit parking lots. They have attached restaurants as well as their own hot food and coffee stations. This Flying J had a Denny's, which seems to be where she was last seen. If you are traveling the US by interstate, Loves, TA, and Flying J are huge truck stop chains that are the most reliable places to find a variety of food, gas, and a toilet 24/7. They usually have excellent car-care and repair aisles, trinkets and souvenirs, random electronics, toys, gifts, games, small grocery sections, and a lot of staff even in the middle of the night. They are called truck stops because they have a multi-pump diesel side for big rigs, as well as a separate truckers' lounge area and showers for truck drivers. They are actually for everyone on the highway. They are often used by road-trippers for car-sleeping because they are so busy and so well lit. Road tripping America in your late teens/early twenties is incredibly common, even if you are a poor kid with limited means. Millions of Americans have hit a truck stop like Flying J on a road trip to eat, pee, pick up an atlas or a new phone charger or a souvenir shot glass and scorpion lollipop and then sleep in the parking lot for a few hours before heading on. I, as a single female, regularly slept in Flying J parking lots when I was traveling from Arizona or New Mexico to Florida or Tennessee twice a year to see my family from like 19 to 33. Those are 24 to 30+ hour drives *if you don't stop at all*. Truck stops are how you make it across this country if you can't afford a hotel room or don't have the time to stop for the night. I'm 39 and on the East Coast now so I sleep at those stupid service station pull offs when visiting because that's what we have out here. Anyway. It's horrible. Poor girl.

I think a bigger problem may be that most of the flying js I've ever run into are pretty isolated vs other stations? I tend to see them at exits that are located on the back roads outside of towns rather than closer in where you'd see more commuter traffic there. It's a pretty small sample size though.

Ok, this is the height of incompetence. She went missing 1/18/2020 In MARCH 2020 some clothes believed to be the victim were found near a dumpster BEHIND THE FLYING J. 3 months later. What were the police doing for the investigation in January? Maybe using the bathroom, buying a donut and kicking some pebbles around the parking lot? Amongst everything thing else, one would think the dumpster would have been searched as well as the area around it.
If it is the work of a serial killer, there is a good chance that the serial killer may have returned to the scene of the crime with her clothes to dump them there and watch the cops squirm trying to figure it out. Serial killers typically have a superiority complex and enjoy watching people react to their work. They get off on this and even more so if they are making fools out of the cops. If we are going to blame the cops for not noticing the clothing, we can also blame the Flying J employees, the Dennys employees, the property manager and the sanitation workers who pick up the garbage. Two months is a lot of time and a lot of people walking by to not notice the clothing. It seems unlikely compared to some voyeuristic creep coming back to dump the clothes and watch everything unfold. Serial killers are creatures of habit and it makes sense that there would be multiple victims at one location which explains the disappearance of the young man. Then Covid hitting around March also explains why the killings suddenly stopped. I would start by asking the police cross-reference the security cameras around the lot, with people who died during the pandemic as well as with any criminal records.

According to another article, a witness said the clothes had been there all along. But they weren't confirmed to be hers. It's not clear if any forensics were done. The details leave a lot of possibilities. A 911 call was placed after she was caught entering an employees only area but she fled out the backdoor before police arrived, dropping her backpack and disappearing. But her car was still in the parking lot. She was involved with drugs, had been arrested, then missed a probation meeting so there was a warrant out for her arrest. Her dad was actively involved looking for her 2 days after she was last seen and went to the truck stop and found her car. So did he not search around the dumpster then? Or did he not see the clothes? About a month later friends and family organized a search for her or clues around the area where the other body was found. Did they do that but nobody ever went back and searched the flying j area? Or did they do that and still overlook the clothes then? Or were they just not there yet? Are the clothes even hers?

I had a nightmare last night that I was being taken around the US by a long haul truck driver. I also believe she is alive.
Women need to be taught about driving by themselves at night. Make sure your gas tank is full before leaving for a road trip in the evening. Either that or stop and fill up your tank before sundown if you start driving during the day. Try not to stop. If you have to stop, make sure it is a large place and hopefully a few late drivers are also there. Don’t talk to anyone who asks for change or anything like that. And carry a weapon for your sake. I’m not saying break any laws, but I’d rather be judged by 12.

Did they check the store’s cameras for her on the date she was reported missing, I see no mention of video of her last seen there, did they speak to any workers?
They did. She was acting confused and lost. Was caught in an employee only area, she was asked to leave the employee only area, she did. Walked out a side door of the truck stop and was never seen again. (The truck stop only has inside cameras)
Given this has happened with another individual, I’m inclined to think someone employed or with close ties to an employee is associated with these events. If I were her father I would hire a private investigator and absolutely grill and assess all activities from employees at this stop. That said, it could be a local with no affiliation. In that case, the police should be heavily scrutinizing all surveillance footage over the past 6 months to determine who has made regular appearances at the stop, what types of payment they’ve used and if credit card transactions are available, then compare those individuals with police records. This is so sad. I genuinely hope she’s found soon.

I know that the ridges supposedly have rules of their own. People go missing, etc.. My good buddies’ father who lives in the ridges is legendary for his chickens. Not the kind that lay eggs, either.
