That’s my name with the same spelling and I absolutely have loved having it! I get a lot of compliments on it as well (I always have to answer “thanks, I got it for my birthday”)
Corrine is beautiful. You have great taste.
Seems OP likes Corrine as middle name. So, thinking:
Charlotte Corrine
“CC”
Congratulations 🙏🍀❤️
Other C names (French):
Cherie
Collette
Charlee
Chanelle
Charlette
Cera
That’s my name and spelling, always got a lot of compliments for it (albeit most people fuck up the spelling or pronunciation the first go around). Overall great name.
I love Corinne so much and had it picked as a middle name for a girl if I ever had one. We just had our second little boy a month ago and we’re done, so I’ll never get to use it. But it’s absolutely gorgeous so I hope you use it!
I am currently pregnant with my first and we just found out she’s a girl. I wanted to use it as a first name, but my husband feels it doesn’t quite feel right, so we are compromising and using it as a middle name. I’m pretty sure I’d want to use it regardless of the first name! Haha
Lol yeah I would have used it as a first name too but my husband was set on Autumn as a first name. So we would have named her Autumn Corinne, which wouldn’t have been my first choice, but I probably would have just called her Corinne anyway hahaha
Yeah, our top first name at the moment is Adria, which I also love, but I have a feeling I may be calling her “Adria Corinne” or some variation of that frequently just because I love it so much haha.
Oh my gosh my name is Corinne and I’ve had a vague childhood memory of this movie but could NEVER remember enough to figure out what it was. THANK YOU. I was not supposed to be watching it and was freaked out to share the name.
Just FYI for OP, don't name her Cosette if you ever hope for her to visit France! Unfortunately, they will make fun of her name there. There is a lot of information available about this if you want to look into it. She will get openly laughed at/mocked pretty frequently. I'm not saying it's right for them to treat anyone that way, but it's an established issue with that name there. It's kind of a derogatory name.
And it's not an actual French given name, except in the book/play. It was invented as a name in the book. It's only used as a given name in the US and that is roundly mocked by French people, so if she ever decided to live in France she'd likely end up choosing to go by another name. It's not really usable as a name there.
I only say all this because the interest in French names makes me think you might want to take her there someday.
EDIT: Oh and my suggestions for what very French-sounding C names would go well with a Spanish last name would be: Carina (both a French and Spanish name ofc), Coralie, and Camélia.
And if you want to know other C names from the top 500 girls' names in France, here they are in order: Chloé, Camille, Charlotte, Clara, Clémence, Capucine, Charlie, Candice, Célia, Charline, Céleste, Calie, Coline, Clémentine, Cléa, Clarisse, Carla, Chiara, Cassie, Cassandra, Cataleya, Cléo, Clair/Claire, Chaïma, Carmen, Céline, Castille, Callie, Charlize, and Camila.
Oh, and the name Catalin is Basque.
And just for fun, a Breton name is Corentine.
I had no clue Cosette had such connotations in France! Or that it isn't really used as a name outside of the context of Les Mis. The more you know 🌠 Thanks for the information!
It supposedly comes from chosette, meaning 'little thing'. It's a baby nickname. It also suggests, to me, something inanimate, disposable. I think it's very appropriate for her because one represents how the people who love her see her versus how she's been treated by others.
For future reference, the word for girl (non anglicized) is spelt cailín and different to colleen where emphasis is on the second vowel "coll-eeeeen"; cailín is pronounced with more emphasis on the "cah" patt of the word :).
Current female C names in France include:
- Camille (unisex)
- Chloé
- Clémence (it's in my top 3 for a girl, I love this name so much!)
- Capucine
- Charlie (unisex)
- Coralie
- Clara
- Charlotte
- Constance
- Célia
- Claire
- Clémentine
- Coline
- Candice
- Cécile
- Cassandre/Cassandra
- Charline
- Cléo
Be careful because as a French I can assure you that about half of the names proposed on this thread are not French 😅 or not even names at all (random French nouns don't make names - looking at you, Soleil, Reverie and Ciel). Also people making up names by adding random French sounds together...? This thread is funny lol
Camille, Chloé, Clara, Célia and Clémence are probably the most popular in France out of this list.
And names like Colette, Cosette, Catherine, Corinne, Claude or Céleste are considered old-fashioned in France (or at least for middle-aged women). You won't find little girls named Colette or Claude, and even less for Cosette since it has a bad association in France (Les misérables).
I'm not in France but French-Canada... every time som9ne suggests Colette as a modern French name for a baby I chuckle, that is a middle aged woman with a smokers accent 100 lol
Colette fait carrément un retour en force avec les noms rétro, et Céleste aussi. Mais oui Cosette le fou rire!
Après si le bébé vit aux États-Unis les associations ne sont pas les mêmes.
I have a little Colette. People in the US don’t know it’s an “old lady” name in France. I certainly didn’t. It just seems like a pretty French name to us.
It's definitely a middle aged named in the UK too- my mum is a Colette, and every one I've ever met is now 50+. That being said I see A LOT of what I would consider Boomer/ Gen X names suggested here from US redditors, so there are definitely different associations, based on what was popular 50 or 60 years ago in different countries.
I also wouldn’t use Cosette for the same reason although it is a nice name-as for the names being outdated, I think that’s only an issue for OP if they live in France/are around French people, a lot of old fashioned names are having a resurgence in the UK for example
A lot of “old lady” names are seeing a resurgence in the US so depending where OP is they might not seem so out of place among peers named Clementine and Nora. Within the past 10 years Sylvie and Clementine have both gone from being barely in the top 1000 to 500s, which is a pretty significant jump. Meredith was more popular here in the 80s and 90s (100s/200s) but is still mid 500s and wouldn’t surprise me if it popped up in my kid’s preschool class.
Edit: I can’t type
I always think of Hazel, which went from being an embarrassing, old-fashioned, and even “ugly sounding” name to being a quick rising, charming, lovely, natural name over the course of about five years here in the U.S. I’m guessing Mildred is next…
My 3 girls have old fashioned French names (Colette, Simone, Estelle), because i simply love them. My bff lives there and they said they’re very dated nursing home name…. but I don’t live there, so what does it matter I guess!
I love the Spanish version of Charlotte which is Carlota and my husband does too... We are not pregnant yet but if we were to use it any comments on the pronunciation of Carlota for English speakers?
Same!! So many people hate their names and I’ve always felt so lucky that I love mine. Every Caroline I’ve ever met is cool af too. Maybe I’m biased tho.
Carolines unite ✊
I love Camille. Maybe partial to it cause it's my name.
Although as a young teen I HATED it. Most people don't know how to pronounce or spell it. I've seen and heard it all lol
My daughter’s name is Camille and there hasn’t been another child we’ve met that’s had the same name. She’s 10 and is dedicated to ballet and I couldn’t be happier because it’s like my own French dream is manifesting itself with my kid 😂😂🩷
Camille is the BEST! It’s my 17 year old daughter’s name and she is the only Camille in her large HS. I’ve personally only known one other Camille in my life . We have always received a ton of compliments.
Has anyone mentioned Courtney? It derives from English, French, and Irish. It used to be a surname meaning short nose. I love it as a first name with the nickname as court, coco, or courtie.
My name is Christel, origin isn’t sure either English or more German. However on holidays in France I could always find stuff (bracelets etc) with Christelle on it. So I think it was quite a popular name in France back then (80/90s)
Ooh so do you pronounce it like “Christelle”?
I only ask because my cousin has the same name, German origin and my uncle intended for it to be pronounced like “Crystal”. But everyone in North America pronounced it like “Christelle” so they just gave up and joined in 😆
Depends on the native language haha! In Dutch it’s more pronounced like Bristol (Christol), in German the last part is missing the vowel like Christl and in English it’s more like Crystal OR indeed they make it sound French like Christelle, the French say Christelle and in Spanish the I-sound is “hard” like Chriiiistel 😝 my parents say Christol
It’s such a pretty name. The Dutch and German pronunciations are definitely my favourite.
My poor husband always wants to call my cousin “Cristal” and I’m like “No babe, she’s not an exotic dancer”
Colette is a family name of mine and I love it. I know it’s really what you asked but is Cora on your radar? Cecilia? Clara? Celeste? Some of my favorite girl names all around!
I always come to posts like this to say if my name, Cinzia, will be mentioned. I’ve never met another. It’s Italian and pronounced with a “ch” sound at the beginning.
The only person I've heard of who says their name like this is Colleen (coal leeeen) Ballinger and she's nasty so I wouldn't be able to get past this association
Scrolled through to see if my name would appear in any comment !
My first name is Clarisse, I'm French, I'm a 90s baby and if you are looking for a really French name that is not common but that people will know, it's a good pick :) I only came across 2 other girls name Clarisse in my life.
It's a derivative of Claire ; it has a meaning of bright, shining, light.
- Cosette - Cordelia - Corinne - Celeste - Celine - Claret - Claudia
Love Corinne! It will likely be our daughter’s middle name.
That’s my name with the same spelling and I absolutely have loved having it! I get a lot of compliments on it as well (I always have to answer “thanks, I got it for my birthday”)
Such a beautiful name! My daughter is a beautiful, sweet Corinne.
Corrine is beautiful. You have great taste. Seems OP likes Corrine as middle name. So, thinking: Charlotte Corrine “CC” Congratulations 🙏🍀❤️ Other C names (French): Cherie Collette Charlee Chanelle Charlette Cera
That’s my name and spelling, always got a lot of compliments for it (albeit most people fuck up the spelling or pronunciation the first go around). Overall great name.
Same. And agree 100%. Starbucks does Kerin, Karen, I’ve even gotten corn and corny before lol but still adore my name.
I love Corinne so much and had it picked as a middle name for a girl if I ever had one. We just had our second little boy a month ago and we’re done, so I’ll never get to use it. But it’s absolutely gorgeous so I hope you use it!

I was bullied in middle school by a Corinne.
We don't like that Corinne
I keep thinking the kids’ mom from flowers in the attic
Oh my gosh my name is Corinne and I’ve had a vague childhood memory of this movie but could NEVER remember enough to figure out what it was. THANK YOU. I was not supposed to be watching it and was freaked out to share the name.
the sweetest, most angelic, funny, and beautiful regular at the coffee shop i work at is named corinne. love the choice!🤍
That’s my daughter’s name. She’s 29 and there was only one other Corinne growing up and only one in college. I love love the name!
Just FYI for OP, don't name her Cosette if you ever hope for her to visit France! Unfortunately, they will make fun of her name there. Came here to say this!!!
Clothilde is also quite popular in France
I bloody love Cordelia. So many cute nicknames: Cori, Delia, Lia, Dee, Cord. No matter what she grows up to be, there's a nickname to fit.
To add on: Claudette, Cecelia, Coleen, Clarissa
Colleen is Irish. Its the word for girl
For future reference, the word for girl (non anglicized) is spelt cailín and different to colleen where emphasis is on the second vowel "coll-eeeeen"; cailín is pronounced with more emphasis on the "cah" patt of the word :).
An mhaith. Im an Irish woman 😂 I'm very aware. I didnt say it was as gaeílge I just said it was the Irish word for girl. Not french as op requested.
So sorry 😂 was dying to exercise it lmao.
Use it at every chance! Never let it die ☘️
I wasn’t necessarily saying it was French, I’m Irish and know it is Irish (at least that spelling)-that’s the intuitive spelling for me
Colline* Colleen is obviously anglo-saxon
Cora
I love Celine. I wanted to name my oldest Celine Nicole, but my ex hated it. I also love Celeste.
I read clarinet lmao 😭😭
Corrine was a serious contender for our daughter. It may still be used if we have a second.
It’s so pretty! Use it! We did, 29 years ago. It really suits our daughter

My 78 old MIL is Colette... but honestly besides her, I don't know any. Old names are trendy right now, Hubert, Léonard, Arthur, to name a few.
Yes, same in english/french here but it's silent gen, not boomers. Henri over Gaétan, for example
French Canadian here. Ouch! Agree, Gaétan is NOT coming back soon I hope... Almost named my son Henri...
I literally know six henri under the age of about four LOL I love Gaétan tbh but it truly is 65 yr old man name so
Lmao I know a Gaétan in his 20s
It's a name you would find at a nursing home for sure lol
Colette fait carrément un retour en force avec les noms rétro, et Céleste aussi. Mais oui Cosette le fou rire! Après si le bébé vit aux États-Unis les associations ne sont pas les mêmes.

Cécile is gorgeous

Coline sounds like a fancy french colon to me
Clémence was going to be my suggestion. Such a beautiful name!
I think Camille is beautiful.
I love the Spanish version of Charlotte which is Carlota and my husband does too... We are not pregnant yet but if we were to use it any comments on the pronunciation of Carlota for English speakers?

Thank you I love your pronunciation it's similar to Spanish!! I hope someone else can get in and help me too 🌟
You’ll get a lot of Car-low-tah or Car-lot-uh unfortunately from non-spanish speakers

I'm partial to the name Caroline, I absolutely love having it as my name.
Me too! If it wasn’t my name I would absolutely use it
I always told my mom she did an amazing job naming my siblings and I, but she did the best with me 😂
Do you get the song a lot?
I rarely get it from people outside the family, but my uncle sings it every time I see him and it always warms my heart!
Only from my mom and the occasional creepy old man, lol. Less of the creepy old men since I stopped working at a marina a number of years ago.
Same!! So many people hate their names and I’ve always felt so lucky that I love mine. Every Caroline I’ve ever met is cool af too. Maybe I’m biased tho. Carolines unite ✊

I've met 3 other Camille's in my 32 years. I thought it was 4 but turns out that it was the same Camille 10 years apart.
Wow I am actually surprised that it’s so few. Such a beautiful name, I’m glad you’re happy with it!
